I can't finde time machine at the internet to download to my windows computer.
i already installed time capsule, but i could not find the time machine. what should i do?

There is no Time Machine for Windows. You need to use a third-party product capable of backing up to network drives.

Can't find time machine restored mailbox

I changed one of my imap gmail accounts to a group account and create myself a new one to receive forwards from group. I went to mail settings and changed the settings of the account and now i realized that actualy I deleted the old one (with over 1000 mails) and setup a new one. I went to time machine, found the old account and restored it. I find the email on the search but can't find where they are. I can see they are in INBOX-3. I would like to upload all these old mails to the account/server. I could even manage to copy the folder com.apple.Mail.Backup.mbox where the INBOX folders are to my desktop but still can't import them to my new account. How do I do it ?

The "Recovered Messages" folders contain the messages restored from TM. If they appear to be empty, please do as follows.
Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

Can't find Time Machine backup for restore

Hard drive died for my MacBook, now I'm trying to restore from the Time Machine file. I have a Linux server set up for Time Machine backup. I've mounted the server to /Volumes/Time Machine, which seems to be working fine, I can see the files there. Problem is the Time Machine restore tool cannot find that drive
Any ideas, is there a way to manually point it to the backup?

Where can I find Time Machine error codes?

Hi, My time machine backup keeps failing with error code 11. I can't find documentation explaining error codes, can anybody point me in the right direction?

At this point TM error codes are best known by the Apple Tech support people or at least they will have access to the software engineers who will have this knowledge. As fas as I know there's no definitive list of TM error code available to users/customers.
You can always send Apple feedback on this issue.

New MacBook Pro can't find time machine

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and I want to restore my system from a time machine back up located on a Time Capsule. I am attempting to do this using the Set-Up Assistant. The process is as follows. I select from Time Machine or other disk and click continue. On the Select the Source screen, my Time Capsule shows up. I click continue and on the next screen the new MBP can not find a source as there is nothing listed in the source box. It continues to search but will not find my time capsule. When I click the Back button, I see my Time Capsule appear for an instant before it shifts back to the previous screen. My MBP is connected to my Time Capsule via ethernet cable and there is web access using that cable.
I don't know what to do. Any suggestions will be great. Thanks.

You don't want to do that by copying.
Your best bet, by far, is to use Setup Assistant. If your Mac is running Snow Leopard, see Using Setup Assistant on Snow Leopard or Leopard.

Can't find Time Machine backups

I just started using Time Machine three days ago, and it seemed to be working. Every hour the tool bar icon spins, a disk image appears on the desktop, and in Preferences it'll give me the last back up (currently 2:25 PM. When I enter Time Machine to look at my backup, I only see "Today" and only one pane. There are no versions of a file I've worked on and saved several times.
I'm using an OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro hooked up to an Airport Extreme. Now, when I initially set it on wifi, it was taking forever (only 10GB in 12 hours--it would've taken over six days to back up my modest 150GB drive). So I hooked the drive directly to my MacBook Pro via FireWIre 800, then switched back to wireless. I've searched he the site here and see that that may be the problem, but I'm not sure why, and can't find a way to fix it.
If I have to use only wireless or only FireWire, is there a way to speed up the initial transfer? Even 24 hours would be ok. If I can't speed it up. Can I interrupt the initial transfer to put it to sleep and move it to another part of the house?

As I said, I'm not very familiar with wireless backups; you may have to mount the sparse bundle, perhaps by dragging it into the sidebar of Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder).
I just looked at the hard drive in the FInder, and there is only something with a "sparsebundle" extension and a Shared folder with nothing in it. Both of which have a date modified of three days ago. Should there be something modified with the time of the last back-up?
That's odd. Assuming you have sufficient privileges, there should also be a "Backups.backupdb" folder from when you were doing the backups while directly connected.
Again, Time Machine Prefs tells me the last backup (to the disk I designated as the backup disk) was at 3:13 PM (ET)
One other possibility: check your System Name via System Preferences > Sharing. It it's blank, that's likely the problem. If it's over 26 characters long, trim it. If it has any unusual characters, try removing them. (An earlier version of Leopard wouldn't work with the name OSX assigns when you first set up, +<your name>'s Computer+ because of the quotation mark!)
If nothing else works, I'd suggest erasing the drive yet again and starting over. You might want to try the procedure of starting wirelessly, then connecting via the Ethernet cable, and/or take a look in the Airport and Time Capsule forums, hiding in the Digital Life section, at: http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=140

Can't get Time Machine to work at all..

I am very new to Mac, and have a Macbook running OS X 10.4.11 I have the 500 gb Time Capsule, but I can't find Time Machine anywhere.. do I need to upgrade my operating system? Sorry to be such a noob, but I am a recent convert, and it's a whole new world for me. thanks.

Yes Time Machine is only available in 10.5, to upgrade you will need to purchase a retail copy of Leopard.

Why can't i find Time Machine Device in Hard Drive when i have plugged it already. White light just keeps on blinking.

Understanding and resolving a blinking status light
Here are the reasons that the status light may blink:
Your Time Capsule has detected that the internal hard drive has reported a SMART error
The base station has not yet been configured
The base station has been reset.
A new firmware update is available for the base station.
No IP address is available for the base station.
A Wi-Fi base station in Extended Mode is out-of-network Wi-Fi range of a primary Wi-Fi base station.
The WAN Ethernet cable is unplugged from the Wi-Fi base station.
The Wi-Fi base station lacks a path to the Internet (or local router).
Internet access may be temporarily unavailable from your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
A persistent, blinking, amber status light indicates that your base station may require your attention.
How to resolve a blinking amber status light alert
Launch AirPort Utility to determine why your base station status light is blinking amber.
AirPort Utility opens automatically if your Wi-Fi base station requires your attention. You may also choose to launch AirPort Utility at any time.
In the AirPort Utility window, locate your Wi-Fi base station and double-click on it to open the Summary window. Note: If you have more than one Wi-Fi base station, double-click on the icon for the Wi-Fi base station that has the amber circle next to it.
When the Summary window appears, double-click the amber circle to the right of Wi-Fi base station Status to open the Status window.
The Status window lists any conditions that require your attention. Respond to each item until there are no more items listed.
Eliminating the blinking, amber status light may require making changes to a specific setting, or putting a checkmark in the "Ignore" checkbox beside any option you don't wish to change. A checkmark simply tells the AirPort that you are aware of the issue and you have chosen to ignore it. For example, you may wish to leave your AirPort open without a password so that anyone can join your wireless network.
Click Update to apply your changes (the base station will restart).
After the base station has restarted, the status light should be green and not blinking. If the status light stays amber in color and blinks after the Wi-Fi base station restarts, you may repeat the steps above.

I would like to use time Machine to back up to a network SMB drive. I can see the drive on my desktop but it will not show in the time machine window to be able to select it

I currently have a mini server (OSX10.8.5, server 2.2.2) that I am using Time Machine to back up 4 external drives that are connected to the server via firewire 800. I would like to use Time Machine to back up to a windows network SMB drive. I can see the drive on my desktop but it will not show in the time machine window to be able to select it for use.
Can this be done

The supported targets for Time Machine backups are local (direct-connected) disks, and network targets include Time Capsule, a disk hanging off the current-generation AirPort (though not earlier AirPort devices), and OS X Server systems.
The Time Machine storage is based on the HFS+ file system, so I would not expect TM to work with SMB file services.
While there are hacks to allow Time Machine to access network drives, I would not consider those to be reliable. Skim the forum and the 'net for related details, and for previous discussions of setting this up and the related issues that can arise.
Remember to test the recovery with whatever you decide to use; whole point of backups is the ability to restore the data, after all.

How can I exit out of the Time Machine window when it has frozen?

So I restored a backup from the 16th of June today from Time Machine. Just now I accessed 'Documents' folder from the 21st June backup and restored the file as I have made changes to Documents since the 16 th of June. Then I went back into 'Time Machine' to look for more files to restore.....and it has frozen on the Time Machine window with all the stars around the finder. How do I get out of time machine now? (Apart from shutting it down).

If it is frozen, there is no option (other than shutting it down) that I am aware of.

Yes, someone stole my original apple id in 2009. Now i bought another iphone in late 2012 , Created another apple id due to Apple not being able to help me access my original apple id. Which now since 2 months ago someone or company, or bank stole my second apple id. My iphone 4s with Sprint has no celluar connection supossedly due to no internet that is what sprint said but I looked it up on apple and it stated that there is a cellluar block on my iphone4s.
So I guess I will have to go in person to Sprint so they can explain that to me and why I was lied to on the phone earlier. Back to my 2nd stolen apple id that I registered my macbook,airport express router, and iphone4s and apple TV. So who ever stole this apple id obviously took over all my mac products I had registered to it. Enough about that back to trying to use time machine....Everytime i do, my macbook just starts acting all screwed up. I bought a WD external drive for Mac but I believe someone must have claimed it too. Since there is 75gb on it that I can't access. Kind of like my Macbook stating I can't save or have access to the Root . That is another thing after reinstalling snow lepoard which works great until I update it. Which is a problem because everytime I update it to 10.6.8 All the permissions are changed the graphics look horrible and I get redirected so bad its not funny. The email account is a joke. Also I notice my stationary for email is in Spanish not sure why and on Iworks the document samples are also in spanish. Now I dont speak any other language except ENGLISH AND HAVE LIVED IN UNITEDSTATES MY ENTIRE LIFE. But my internet provider Fibrant which swears they are local shows it is in the UK also when i try to access my email for that account it states it is not safe , certificate is expired and someone might be trying to impersonate my server. Needless to say it is getting old. I had this same problem with Timewarner and Att except att would just remove my ethernet driver then laugh when i would call and ask what the problem was. Then later I find out when I had DSL that somehow the phone number they had listed was change to being a digit off from my DSL account which again they laughed and thought it was funny. Enough about that. I need to know how to get access to my Apple id. I gave up on the first one but the second one I did have access to until I registered all my apple products. What is up with every thing I have with a usb port being corrupt. I have also notice anywhere in town where I live my phone is English until I come home it is arabic,hebrew , spanish any language except English. Shouldn't I be safer in my home??????????????? But I am not I am safer in town or anywhere but my home. EVerything states international in my home and this has been going on since 2009.....No one can tell me why. My power from Duke reads that OTHER Is costing me the most $$ every month what ????? This is a joke. But yet no one can tell me why or how to fix the problem. Going on 5 years , I have been cut off from everyone I know. Can't keep contacts on a phone or email accts. They all disappear. All so I am in Eastern time zone but all my computers and tv seems to think I am in pacific timezone. No one can fix this problem either. I try to create a new email account but either I am locked out right after or someone turns it into an alias account which doesn't help me. When I was layed off in 2009-2010 I went back to school/college. Needless to say they took my School email acct too.
Back to my iphone 4s problem. My icloud email account gets alot of spam starting about 2 months ago and I can't stop it. I try to foward it to Spam @ me but it hasn't helped.My iphone can only connect to the internet with wifi. Sprint swears that there is not a block but according to apple there is.

I won't to connect my iphone to itunes to try to restore it but it states I have to update it to 10.6.8. When I do that my computer is alot worse off. Also how can I use TimeMachine with out my Macbook getting messed up? Something in my house has taken over anything with a usb port actually years ago and probably now something kept turning all my computers and phones or any electronic I owned it to a printer. I actually can't even use a printer in my home thats the funny thing. When I try to connect one when I used windows it stated I had no rights to it and couldn't use it. Since I switch to Mac not much better. When I try to print a test page it is all crooked and too small of half off the page. So it is upsetting that I can't use a printer but something keeps turning all my electronics into printers. If anyone knows how to fix this problem that would be great or to stop all this international stuff going on in my home that would be wonderful. I try to buy brand new pcs but soon as I start them up something had already taken over. This is with nothing electronic in my home on. Turn everything that a power switch off or unplugged it. Still I lost rights and access to anything in my home. Now if I am away from my home and try to use one of my laptops they look completely different and almost usable. Unfortunately I can't afford to move. I thought about it but I am still in bankruptcy and don't have the money. In the last 4 years I have not been able to reinstall in backups that I have created. Not sure why oh wait it states I have no rights to do that. My macbook I lost access to a week after I bought it and connected my iphone too. You don't know how many times I wish I had never backed my iphone 4s to my Macbook. Right after I could not log into it. Even used the disk to reset the password nope still couldn't log into it. Try to type the formula for resetting the password and nope it didn't work either.
Any suggestions would be appreciated---Need to gain access to my apple Id that would be a great start

Can't get Time Machine to back up server or attached drives

Tried to use the search on these new discussion forums and was told I'm not authorized to search the server forums so sorry if this has already been asked and answered.
I'm having a serious issue trying to back up my Mac Mini Server running 10.6.7. The setup is I've got the main server hard drive running the OS and storing user folders, the second drive is storing all server data (mail, ical, etc). I have an attached Drobo that is where all our company's job files are stored. I want to back up mainly the job files to an external USB drive via time machine. I wouldn't mind having the server and data backed up as well but it's not as essential as the customer files. I have not been able to get a successful Time Machine Backup of anything. Time Machine will start backing up and hang after what seems like a random amount of data has been backed up. This can range anywhere from a few hundred Gigabytes or a few Megabytes. The last attempt has stalled out at 17MB of 518GB.
The troubleshooting I've done so far is to try to back up only certain things, so:
Format the USB Drive then try to back up only the main server hard drive, excluding all else.
Format the USB Drive then try to back up only the server data hard drive, excluding all else.
Format the USB Drive then try to back up only our jobs folder on the Drobo, excluding all else.
The result has been the same every time. Seemingly random amount of data get's copied and then the backup hangs. I do not get an error message the Time Machine backup icon on the menu bar just keeps spinning and I have the Time Machine window up that says:
Time Machine Backup
Backing up 269,376 Items
17.3 MB of 518.7 GB
This current attempt was to backup just our jobs folder and was started yesterday morning so it has been over 24 hours. Disk Checks on the external USB drive come up with no errors every time I've scanned it.
Hoping someone has a solution. One of the main reason's the company owner decided to get a mac server was how well time machine worked on his mac at home and the idea of being able to go back to pervious versions of customer jobs if necessary.

I agree with Sven. I use TM to backup my server and have had EXCELLENT success. I work in a school with many teachers that love to delete files and empty the trash on their user accounts.

About the hanging problem... I've see it as well. I fixed it by finding the document that it was trying to back up. I copied it to a USB stick and deleted said file from the server.
I ran the time machine backup again, and it worked! I kindly asked the teacher to just remake the file in question. Luckily it wasn't anything important. I just chalked that one up to a corrupt or unreadable file.
Another thing to beware of. DO NOT expect time machine to be able to do a complete system restore on OS X server. It's great for getting those lost files while the system is up and running, but it will not work when trying to replace your Open Directory. It might get stuck on MySQL, and Mail as well. These databases are VERY finicky. If you need to back up your OD database, open up server admin and select "Open Directory."
Click the "Archive" button at the top.
To the far right hand side of the "Archive in" field, click choose.
Select the location that you want to save your archive to (the time machine drive will work) and click choose.
Click "Archive..." Type the name for your OD backup and type a password if desired. You don't need to have one.
Lastly... Smile on the inside knowing that your OD is nicely backed up and safe!

HT204350 Migration assistant in OS X Mavericks cannot find Time Machine disk

Well, the title says it all. My old Mountain Lion MacBook Pro had a harddrive crash and now I have installed a brand new SSD in it. It was not possible to use the Time Machine to restore the old system to the new disk during installation. So I thought, maybe it will work better after the basic system is installed. Nope. I can still activate Time Machine, but I can't regress even a single folder. And if I open the Migration Assistant it all goes well until I choose to use a Time Machine disk and then it just does not find any disk to use.
Of all the things you would expect from a specialised backup utility is that it should be possible to use for restoring a computer. If it isn't then why the **** have I been saving **** to it? I could have used the disk for a plain copy backup, a backup I could use.
I have seen a hundred of these threads when trying to find an answer. Has anyone found something that works? Has ******* Apple ******* fixed the problem somewhere?

In the sidebar of a Finder window, select the icon representing your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) At the top level of the volume are folders with these names, among others:
Applications
Library
System
Enter Time Machine and select the most recent snapshot, which is behind the frontmost window. Are those folders present in the snapshot?

Backupos not visible in time machine window

I wanted to put back a backup of my system today and noticed that only today's backup is visible in time machines window. In Finder i can see the other backups but don't know how to put those back.
Don't know if this is related, but I installed the 10.6.4 OS update. Before this I could see my backups in Time machine's window.
Is there a way to repair my backups? I do need them...

How can I use time machine to recover my iWeb09 files?

I read that iWeb stores one's website pages in the domain folder which can be located at ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb. Can I use time machine to recover my iWeb09 files? If so, how? -I tried. I entered my Time Machine back up, and went back in time and brought the domain file forward but it opened only my current site pages, not the ones I am trying to recover. And it says the Domain file was last modified in October 2007 which is crazy because I've been using iWeb a lot and have published many pages. It seems like the uncorrupted pages, which I am trying to recover, existed somewhere on my computer at one point in time and space, less than a week ago, becuse I just published my site to a new hosting service since Apple will soon stop web hosting. So why can I not find them using time machine?

I continued searching and read another person's advise to down load an app named "Find File," then search for .sites. She said spotlight doesn't always find all files. So I did and sure enough, when I searched for .sites I found another Domain package, which I have no idea how it was created but which, it ends up, was the one actually being used by iWeb. So I went to that package then did the time machine and went back to before my web pages became corrupted. I had to delete corrupt blog pages out of my website menu to get iWeb to upload the other page changes even to a local folder.
So I went to that newly found Domain, went back in time, then brought that forward and as you pointed out the domain package had the parts of the pages, the files and jpegs, but not the structure/layout of the pages. So, I guess I gave up on finding the old pages.
Those pages still exist on the Apple hosting server but iWeb doesn't not reverse publication. Cyberduck would bring back the files and bits and peices but again not the pages as a total entity. I'm preparing for the end of Apple website hosting (next month?) and am republishing my old site. I decided to use a new domain name. So my entire original site is still totally intact on the web under the original domain name, on my mobile me site, I guess it will be there till sometime in June?
My problems started when I tried to publish my website to the new server. It just would not publish the whole website in one session. So I decided to do it a few pages at a time. Some pages went up, but as I added more, for some unknown reason the, blog pages, (about 70 subpages), which had aleardy uploaded just fine to the new server, became corrupt and locked up iWeb. Of course once I deleted the corrupt pages I didn't want to continue publishing the site to the host until I found and reinserted uncorrupted pages, knowing publishing changes would delete the already published pages.
At first I thought it was the hosting server's fault, but when I discovered that it wouldn't publish even to a local fold I was able to locate the cause within iWeb, deleted those pages then tested by publishing to a local folder. iWeb worked locally, so I knew I had found the problem pages. Well this is way more than you wanted to know. Thanks for your advise but I'll just start the blogging pages over.
