Can't force close app on iOS 5.1.1

Greetings everyone. I have a first generation iPad updated to it's latest version of 5.1.1. I've been having issues opening, updating, or even force closing the app HBO GO. I know about the the force close by double clicking the Home button then pressing and holding an open app for it to wiggle for the close box to appear, but for HBO GO, no such option appears, and the app remains forever frozen, with no way to kill it.
Per article iOS: Not responding or does not turn on step 3 states: If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
I'm about to go to bed, and my iPad is now backing up into iCloud right now, but I was wondering if anyone might have a solution so I don't to reset my device as restoring my iPad is a huge time sync.
Thanks!

If the other ideas do not work, maybe you should hold the home button and the S/W button at the same time. That cold reboot the specified device and help with answering the question. If solution one didn't work, try solution 2: Wiping all of the data off of your device. By going into settings>General>Reset (Apple device here), then follow the on-screen instructions to reset the device to factory defaults. After that, log into your Apple ID and re-install the app you struggled closing.
IF solutions 1 or 2 didn't work, it may be an app that requires IOS 6 or above, meaning that your app is incompatible with your current operating system.
Those 3 ideas may or may not work so be careful with what I told you.

  • How can I force an app install in App Store, or otherwise get App Store in a consistent state?

I've recently reinstalled OS X Mountain Lion on a laptop (completely and thoroughly erased the partitions of the previous installation), and on this freshly created system, after I sign in to the App Store (to download previous purchases), the system behaves as if packages are already installed - which they are not!
Under the Purchases tab, packages (such as Xcode or other previous purchases) are showing with a greyed out "INSTALLED" button on the right.  Other packages (which have not been installed) are showing with a (pressable) button of "UPDATE".  (For example, iPhoto has a newer version in Mavericks; it seems always possible to click on UPDATE and be prompted to install the latest version for Mountain Lion -- even though that process can be infinitely repeated).  But iPhoto (along with any other packages) has not been installed to the host yet.  /Applications/iPhoto.app and any others are not showing at all on the system, but App Store still believes that they're installed already (preventing a real install, or pretending that an upgrade is an upgrade and not an install).  There are some packages which DO say "INSTALL".  Those are the ones that I have never installed before on the laptop.  So it appears to be possible to still install some packages - but that's the set that I do not want to install.  So for example, now I can't seem to install Xcode or iPhoto or any other previously purchased applications.  It seems pretty clear that there are some bugs here.  But I am concerned about the source of the association - how is OS X determining that THOSE packages are "installed already", but others are not?  Is the upstream App Store server keeping track of machine ID to make this determination?  I heard at one point that App Store uses Spotlight internally - is it somehow querying that?  Finally I wanted to confirm that this is really a complete reinstall.  I set /dev/zero to the first few sectors of the raw hard drive in order to ensure that I could make a few partiiton table, and when I then reinstalled the system, I chose a different partition arrangement.  I have no other drives connected.  So it's truly a reinstall of the OS from scratch, and at the moment I can't see a clear way to install apps!  I also had killed the App Store agent running in the background, moved away App Store related files in ~/Library/Caches/ and started again.  Yet I get the exact same response.  This is concerning from a privacy perspective too.  Suppose the App Store server is encoding the list of installed packages and associating it with the host and then perhaps I sell the laptop.  Now the list of apps may be available to a new user of the laptop.  But it may only show if the same Apple ID is used.
In any case, I'd like to know how I can best move past this issue, workaround it, and install packages.  Can I force an app to install, even if it's believed to be installed already?  Can I attempt to do an "uninstall"?  Any suggestions about this would be greatly appreciated.

i also have a very similar problem my mac crashed due to a dodgy hard drive which has now been upgraded and snow leopard reinstalled and i cannot re install my purchased apps which is a pain in the back side any help please

How do you close apps in iOS 7. The way I use to do it doesn't  work any more and it is reducing my useful battery life

Double tap on the home key, it brings up a line of apps with little screen shots hovering over them. Flip the screen up, kinda of like you're flipping those apps off your screen.
When you're done just press the home key once to exit the mode.
As to battery issues, poke around in the notifications. There's a lot of stuff defaulted to on that you may not need. Also look to the background updating of apps. Background updating of weather and stocks is defaulted to on, which means it's continually going out to update. May not be something you need.

  • I can't' open whitenote App since ios 7

I can't open whitenote App since ios 7

I'm sorry but the advice being offered is not good advice. Reinstalling the application simply replaces the bugged version. Any password prompt by the application is not accompanied by a keyboard, and is then immediately  followed by an application freeze. Also the restore data from iCloud function doesn't work although I can see that I still have the data in the cloud.
All my attempts to politely contact Sliced-Pi via the support email on their website have been ignored. Only sign of their existence throughout has been that of my money being taken via the credit card.
There is no indication anywhere as to whether or not an iOS7 compatibility fix will be forthcoming.
My advice for what it is worth is move on and find yourself an alternative notepad.

No, you need XCode to compile the app and you need a Developers license to be able to publish.

  • Can not open Mail App in IOS 8.1.1

Since I installed IOS 8.1.1 versión today I have not been able to open Mail App. When I try to open it the screen turns white for a few seconds and then it crashes. I would like to know if there is any solution to this, as checking my mail is escential for my job.
    Thanks in advance,
    Alejandro.

    Hello Alejandro,
For issues with Mail crashing, I would start with closing out of Mail completely by double tapping the Home button and then swiping up on the app. Try opening Mail again to see if it opens up properly. If it continues, try removing the email account and then open Mail to see if it works properly. Then add the account back in. Take a look at the articles below for steps on how to do both options.

How do you close apps on ios7

To close out apps, simply double click the home button and instead of holding down the app icons and clicking on the X mark in older versions, you have to swipe the app window up and away.
Also you can save on battery by turning of background app refresh from settings .... See this article for details , http://nyacomputing.com/how-to-close-out-background-apps-in-ios-7-and-save-on-ba ttery/

Depends, if background refresh is on, that will suck battery, so you may want to. Although, not all apps background refresh.
