Can't fully import my mbox in Mail

I've got a big import problem using Mail on OSX Mavericks. The reason why I started all this was that the search box in Mail wasn't getting the last mails I transferred from one of my online mail accounts to my "archive zone" mailbox on local.
Basically I've got several email accounts online, and several local mailboxes locally to archive when the online account are too full.
One of those local mailbox is quite large (very large) as it's 40Gb. Yes I know, it's too big. But anyway, it worked fine until now...
What I did:
   To solve the original problem of search index, I've deleted the Envelop Index files from my /Library/Mail/V2/MailData folder. Doing that and starting mail again, it started to "import" my mailboxes. Big surprise when I realized that all my emails in that particularly big mbox where all there but all blanks when opened (no subject, no sender, no body, no attachments, just the hour/date information). The list of the emails contained the sender, subject, date/time info, but not the short desc (first three lines in my config) of the mail.
  So I tried to remove again the Envelop Index files and got mail to start importing the emails again. This time around, it did something better. About 25% of my emails in that mbox where complete (no attachments though), the other ones being blanks again. I checked the amount of space that this mbox took at that time and it was about 15Gb, so I realized that the import procedure was getting rid of huge chunks of emails...
  Fortunately, I've got a time capsule containing a backup of that mbox and when I look at it in details, it's got all my emails and all the attachments.
  I tried restoring that mbox through time capsule and try to re-import that into mail using that same procedure but I came to the conclusion that my problem is linked to the size of the mbox it's trying to import.
  Do you know whether there are other things I should try ?
  Is there a way to split an mbox into bits and pieces and import them one by one ?

I've got a similar problem but haven't been able to resolve by any of the above. Basically I 'lost' all my e-mail and decided the best route was a full TimeMachine recovery from the day before. On launching the 'new' mail there was nothing at all. I have re-set up my various IMAP accounts and they are OK but I had 30-40 locally stored mailboexs which I need to recover. Gortunately I cloned my drive before doing the TimeMachine restore so I can see all the mbox files and can read the enclosed files in Text but cannot import them. I have tried importing as AppleMail and mbox from the V2 folder but nothing is recognised.Please HELP!
