CAN'T FULLY INSTALL QUICKTIME 7.1.6

At end of installation QT freezes, and I cancel and finish installation. Then when I startup QT or boot up, QT wants to update and add "Update Helper", "QT Check," "QT Java," and "QT Info." If I try, it freezes again. It is very annoying to have this happen each time I boot up, or go to Itunes site.
Any fixes?

As usual John G. provided the correct answer. EAS is pretty particular about having the EAS client version match the EAS server version even on very close dot releases e.g. 11.1.1.2 client won't connect to 11.1.1.3 server or vice versa.

  • Can't fully uninstall Quicktime

I'm trying to fully uninstall Quicktime, and I get a message that says "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable". I've tried defragmenting my hard drive. How can I remove the various files that are preventing uninstallation?

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable"
    That's usually caused by a damaged QuickTime.msi
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Now run the utility ("Start > All programs > Windows Install CleanUp"). In the list of programs that appear in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries, and click "Remove". Quit out of CleanUp.
Next we'll clear away the leftover program files and folders. Their locations vary depending on whether you've got a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Vista.
    *32-bit Vista*
    Restart the PC.
Open Local Disk C: or whichever drive your program files are installed on.
    Open the "Program Files" folder.
Right-click the "QuickTime" folder (if it still exists) and select Delete.
Go back into Local Disk C: or whichever drive your Operating System files are installed on.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
Right-click on the QuickTime file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Right-click on the QuickTimeVR file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
    *64-bit Vista*
    Restart the PC.
Open Local Disk C: or whichever drive your program files are installed on.
Open the "Program Files (x86)" folder.
Right-click the "QuickTime" folder (if it still exists) and select Delete.
Go back into Local Disk C: or whichever drive your Operating System files are installed on.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "sysWOW64" folder.
Right-click on the QuickTime file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Right-click on the QuickTimeVR file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
    You should now be QuickTime-free.

  • Can't Uninstall/Install Quicktime...

Basically, I want to uninstall my old version of quicktime. I basically corrupted it (I believe) because it won't open. When I remove the app from my mac, it's no longer there. However, whenever I'm trying to re-install using the official Quicktime 7.6.4 on apple.com - it won't let me. It gives me an error message saying:
"Quicktime can't be installed on this disc. This version of Quicktime 7 can't be installed on the disc because Quicktime X is already present. Please us Software update to install the appropriate version of QuickTime for your mac".
The problem is, when I go to my software update..it doesn't detect that it needs to be updated. So..how am I supposed to fix it? And when I try to open movie files, Quick time isn't even detected as an option (even if I browse). As far as my knowledge..Quicktime is NO LONGER on my mac..yet it insists that it is. I just want to start fresh, I want to be able to re-install it. But it won't let me.
Anyone have any advice for this maddening problem? And just a little more info - (the way i corrupted the file in the first place) - I was trying to install Quicktime Pro 7 and it kept claiming my mac had the newest version. So I removed quicktime completely, and it kept telling me that quicktime (newer version was on my mac, even tho I removed it, even from the Library section) - then I used the Leopard boot up, and used the optional install..and now the file showed back up, but it doesn't have the quicktime logo, (has the application logo) - and it's non responsive. So I deleted that too...but as I said, when I try to install it again from Apple.com..it's a no go.

  • Can't Un/Install QuickTime due to "QuickTime.msi" being "unavailable"

I'm trying to install iTunes version 9, but at the end of the installation it returns an error saying that it can't install quicktime because it cannot uninstall the older version.
I have traced this error back to the fact that the unintsall wizard cannot find the QuickTime.msi file, saying that it is an "unavailable network resource".
I have also found the file itself in Windows Explorer, and after clicking that it still says it is unavailable.
I can't do Anything with QuickTime at all! Has anyone got any advice?? (v7.64.17.80)

Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we need to hunt down a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for *at least version 3.0* of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes 9.2 again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Can't re-install quicktime

So one night I, being the idiot that i sometimes am, deleted every quicktime related item off of my computer. now when i try to reinstall from apple, i get to the part where i have to choose the destination to install the app. But it won't allow me because it says that i have "quicktime x" already installed. i can't find this "quicktime x" anywhere on my computer. if anyone knows whats going on i'd really appreciate the help
    thanks
    ted

You need a Mac OS X 10.6 install DVD compatible with your computer to reinstall it. There is no QuickTime X download.
If you want to install QuickTime 7 onto a system with QuickTime X, click here or see above.

  • Why can't I install Quicktime Plugin?

I can't watch trailers on the Trailer page using Chrome. I get the message to get Quicktime. I have Quicktime installed.
    - Quicktime works fine.
    - In chrome:plugins I can't see The Quicktime.
    - When I go to download quicktime it just takes me to Software Update and THAT just says I already have it downloaded.
How can I get this working?

Possibly, but not without more information.
"not able to install" means nothing because it could be litterally millions of possibilities.
    Are there any error messages?

  • Can not "fully install" Quick Time on Windows Media Edition

My HP Pavillion 8000, operating on Windows Media Center, came preloaded with i tunes and Quick Time. I was initially able to use ArcSoft's multimedia e-mail program (also preloaded) and the SAVE AS feature of this program and save e-mails in Quick Time's (.mov) format (the other option is to save in the (.exe) format, which is NOT deliverable by hotmail - another sad story...)After a while, without me doing anything specific, this feature QUIT WORKING. Every time I try to save as "Quick Time (.mov) format" I get an error message stating: "you must first fully install Quick Time before you are able to perform this action". I thought upgrating to Pro might solve this problem, it did not, total waste of money. I uninstalled and reinstalled both Quick Time and Arc Soft's Multimedia e-mail, no luck. I cleaned out my registry (based on advise in this forum), and re-installed, no luck. Any suggestions? If not for the specific problem, any other good multimedia e-mail package that can save in formats deliverable by hotmail?

Thank you very much Jacumba, but I have managed to get it installed now, I do not know what really happened but all is well now..  Thank you again for taking the time to want to help me out.  Have great day!

I tried everything listed in the post below mine with no luck but I noticed that I have a different error code.
Also, I tried to install the standalone 7.0.4, it installs and then before it completes, when I click finish is comes up with this error:

    Setup will now terminate
I can't do anything with quicktime: run updates or use the plugins: nothing comes up or it restarts my firefox. What do I do? Really appreciate any help, I'm useless technologically. Thanks

  • ITunes not fully installed - quicktime problem

Okay, this is driving me nuts. I attempted to upgrade itunes. When it was installing I got the error message "old verison of quick time cannot be removed" I tired installing the upgrade of quick time and got the same message. I also tried to reload my origional verision of itunes, rerun the upgrade and still got the same message. I have a dell inspiron 8200 with windows xp. Can someone help, in plan simple language, since I am not a computer person? Thanks

    Yes
In that case, let's try the following procedure.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those QuickTime entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover QuickTime program files:
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
    (2) Open the Program Files folder.
    (3) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (4) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (5) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (6) Restart your computer.
Now try another iTunes 7.5 update. Does it go through properly?

  • Can't Un-install Quicktime

I'm having trouble un-installing my quicktime. When I try to remove it, my installshield won't do it, and trying to update leads to an error 1714, and an error 1603. The first one say it can't find my .msi file for quciktime, and the other says i need to contact some microsoft thing. Does anyone have any advice?

here's what i try first with that .msi/1714/1603 combo. (sometimes people get it when they are trying to uninstall and then reinstall their QuicTime, and this often works if the .msi/1714/1603 gets in the way of that.)

  • Can't Re-Install quicktime X

I have macbook pro with snow leopard and I accidentally deleted quicktime x. I have searched around and found that some others are having some of the same difficulties that I am experiencing so I tried the-
    1) Dowload and install Pacifist
    (2) Insert your Snow Leopard install DVD
    (3) Run Pacifist and choose "Open Apple Install Disks" (takes a bit)
    (4) Search for "Quicktime Player.app"
    (5) Select "Quicktime Player.app" (in Essentials.pkg/Applications) and choose "Install to Default Location"
But when I do step 4 Its only the players of different languages are there and there aren't any for english.
So I just picked a random language and did the rest of the steps. When I try and open quicktime player it says "You can't open the application Quick Time player because it may be damaged or incomplete."
Am I doing something wrong in step 4? Or is it something that is really messed up with quicktime.
I really want quicktime 7. When I try and install QT 7 it says that I already have QT X. So any help would really be appreciated. I normally can figure it out by other peoples questions but this is the rare case where I can't find an answer.
I'm thinking that I have to have QT X in order to get QT 7, so if you think if I buy QT 7 and install that would that fix all the issues?
    Thanks

I just downloaded QT 7.6.6. and it still won't open.
Can you be more specific? Doesn't open QT 7 when you press the app icon in the doc, when you double-click the Finder icon, when you drop a movie file on the dock icon, opens QT X Player when you double-click a movie icon, etc.
But I just tried to open an .avi file with the normal QT X to see if that was working. But it just says "loading movie" and I have waited like 20 mins and still nothing. I used to open this .avi all the time so I know it works.
I would normally recommend you make initial tests with content compatible with the built-in system components before throwing unspecified compression formats in containers requiring third-party component support. Installation/reinstallation of the system OS/QT Player apps sometimes orphans user installed components like Flip4Mac, Perian, and the QT MPEG-2 Playback component which may or may not have to be re-installed in order to work. In other cases, installation/re-installation of QT 7 (which no longer has access to legacy preference switch) may turn off legacy codec access some of which may only work in QT 7 anyway. So when making refences to AVI content, please include a reference to the actual compression formats contained in the file in order to get a better idea as to what actions the player has to go through to load and/or preconvert the file data. Can you post a sample file of similar content for testing on systems which currently appear to be operating normally? Also, do you have similar loading problems using the MPEG Streamclip app which also accesses the QT component configuration. I am also assuming here, tht you have never attemted to run a QT installer package that would modify the QT structure that is embedded in your OS.
So I'm thinking QT X is now installed but not working correctly. because I can't open any of the files I used to be able to open.
As previously indicated, QT X, QT 7, and even MPEG Stremclip are all independent applications that can not only be simultaneously installed on your system, but can also simultaneously display different movies assuming this does not overtax your system with each operating in 64-bit mode or switching between 32- and 64-bit modes as required for playback when QT and components are properly installed and working correctly. That is why it is important to determine if your problem is tied to application installation, the embedded QT structure (i.e., OS problem), or malfunctioning/orphaned components.
As a last resort, if you have a free external drive, I personally would create a pristine external boot drive with basic system software software for test purposes. (I personally keep at least two drives available—one with my current Lion OS and a second with Snow Leopard v10.6.8 for both software testing and in case my main internal drive dies unexpectedly. As to document files, I keep all of my important project files on RAID 5 and RAID 6 protected multi-TB drives.
