Can't fully uninstall Quicktime

I'm trying to fully uninstall Quicktime, and I get a message that says "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable". I've tried defragmenting my hard drive. How can I remove the various files that are preventing uninstallation?

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable"
That's usually caused by a damaged QuickTime.msi
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Now run the utility ("Start > All programs > Windows Install CleanUp"). In the list of programs that appear in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries, and click "Remove". Quit out of CleanUp.
Next we'll clear away the leftover program files and folders. Their locations vary depending on whether you've got a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Vista.
*32-bit Vista*
Restart the PC.
Open Local Disk C: or whichever drive your program files are installed on.
Open the "Program Files" folder.
Right-click the "QuickTime" folder (if it still exists) and select Delete.
Go back into Local Disk C: or whichever drive your Operating System files are installed on.
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "system32" folder.
Right-click on the QuickTime file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Right-click on the QuickTimeVR file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
*64-bit Vista*
Restart the PC.
Open Local Disk C: or whichever drive your program files are installed on.
Open the "Program Files (x86)" folder.
Right-click the "QuickTime" folder (if it still exists) and select Delete.
Go back into Local Disk C: or whichever drive your Operating System files are installed on.
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "sysWOW64" folder.
Right-click on the QuickTime file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Right-click on the QuickTimeVR file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
You should now be QuickTime-free.

  • I can't install / uninstall Quicktime either! Please help

I've read all the posts on this subject and none of the advice has cured my problem. When I try to run the latest Quicktime install program (having uninstalled Quicktime earlier versions??) I have only 2 options - either Repair or Remove. So Quicktime still exists somewhere on my system? Both the options give the same result - a warning dialog with the following message. "The installer has encounted an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package The error code is 2356." Can someone help?

Thanks for the quick reply but I had tried all that already. To be sure though I just checked again. Windows Install cleanup reports no quicktime installation, there is no Quicktime folder in the C:\program files folder and the files are not present in the C:\Windows\system32 folder.
I also searched the entire PC and the files are not there at all. I also checked the QuickTimeInstallerF30.log located in my profile local settings\temp folder it shows the following:-
    === Logging started: 4/7/2007 23:35:25 ===
    Executing: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe" /i "{5E863175-E85D-44A6-8968-82507D34AE7F}"
    Returned: 1603
Also the log file MSIf6fea.LOG in the same folder shows:-
The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2356. The arguments are: QuickTime.cab, ,
    === Logging stopped: 07/04/2007 23:34:16 ===
I'm logged in as the administrator too.
Error message is still the same! The other point to note is that after the error message the install program then looks as though it reverses it first few steps that were completed before the error message.

  • Can't fully uninstall Portal 6.x

I uninstalled the Portal 6.x version I had on my server so as to install the complete JES stack 'fresh' to demo to customers.
When running the JES installer it informs me that Portal is still installed and that it will not install a new version.
This is driving me crazy - there are no Portal packages on the system that I can find, the directories have all been deleted, system rebooted to kill any old processes etc.
How can I completely expunge Portal from my system?

    Hi Christopher,
    1) No question - it is a bug in JES uninstaller
and SUN has to fix it in the next JES release
    2) There is no magic - if some people could wipe
JES installation without reinstalling OS, so there is
no reason why it can't be uninstalled on another
system. I did manual JES uninstall on OS8 and OS9.
    Cheers,
    Alex :-)

  • How can I locate, uninstall Quicktime and iTunes in order to reinstall?

Installed iTunes and Quicktime and bought music. Then tried to access a couple of week later. From iTunes got message 'the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable'. Quicktime says 'Error 46: could not load or find the QT ActiveX control'. I can't access them through Add/Remove Programs, so can't uninstall or update. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    DELL   Windows XP

I've installed and run Win Install Cleanup. Have tried reinstalling iTunes and QT a couple of times. Both times, the status bar freezes at four 'blocks' from the end, with the message 'Registering iTunes automation server'. The Task Manager says the installer's status is Running, so I don't know what to do, other than uninstall as best I can and start the process again. Could it be that the Security Center is preventing it from completing the installation? Any suggestions gratefully received.

  • How can I trash uninstalled QuickTime 7.4.1?

QuickTime 7.4.1 failed to install but I can't trash it either. I accidentally picked the older Panther when it should have been Tiger. I wasn't sure but might have had the latest already - only the free software I really wanted to download reckoned I had to have acquired QuickTime then two others in the right order. I trusted my G4 to tell me 1st if 7.4.1 was incompatible - too old, it finally told me - not after.
When I drag the uninstalled file to trash it tells me I don't have "sufficient privileges" to trash it. In Get Info the Locked File part of General info isn't locked, isn't even available (not highlighted).
Help. How can I get rid of it? If I have to obtain administrator passwords or whatever how on earth do I do this? I've found the ph no for this country, finally, but what rights to assistance do you have for free software like this?
And is it really possible that what must be a really common error of mistaken QuickTime identity if you try to go by their numbers and decimal points, can be so unbelievably difficult to find the solution to?
All and any answers gratefully received. It sounds like someone among you guys will know what I need to do.

Mac G4 Mac OS X (10.4.11) Power PC dual 450MHz processor

    Thanks Ricktoronto
But it looks like I didn't explain this well enough.
The problem appears to be that I have "insufficient privileges" to trash QuickTime 7.4.1 file BECAUSE my G4 refused to install it on the grounds that the version was too old. That its not in my Applications folder - the existing QuickTime is - I'm taking as confirmation that it really hasn't installed.
Re-installing my OSX surely is a daunting solution, but not relevant I don't think to the problem.
So I don't want to install this panther QuickTime, its the wrong one and I can't anyway. I do want to get rid of it, but I can't, trash won't let me. How do I get the "privileges" that will allow me to?
    cheers

  • I can't fully uninstall Angry Birds Roost!

I uninstalled Angry Birds Roost the typical way, by holding down the icon and pressing uninstall, but I went into Settings/Applications/Background Tasks and saw that Angry Birds Roost was still allowed to do things in the background on my phone. I select block but it is still listed there. I suspect that Windows Phone 8 is not fully deleting apps when I tell it to. I only have 4.8 GB of usable space on my Lumia 620 so it is important that I save as much space as I can. Help?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Nevermind, somehow Angry Birds Roost got reinstalled or I never actually uninstalled it, I don't know what happened. I saw the ABR app listed in my app list and uninstalled normally and it fixed my  problem.

  • I uninstalled MacScan, but it still asks me to renew. How can I fully uninstall programs?

It appears MacScan is still hanging around, and does seem to slow my Safari response times, and I want to completely delete it.  Dropping it in trash didn't seem to completely remove it.

  • CAN'T FULLY INSTALL QUICKTIME 7.1.6

At end of installation QT freezes, and I cancel and finish installation. Then when I startup QT or boot up, QT wants to update and add "Update Helper", "QT Check," "QT Java," and "QT Info." If I try, it freezes again. It is very annoying to have this happen each time I boot up, or go to Itunes site.
    Any fixes?

As usual John G. provided the correct answer. EAS is pretty particular about having the EAS client version match the EAS server version even on very close dot releases e.g. 11.1.1.2 client won't connect to 11.1.1.3 server or vice versa.

  • Can't uninstall Quicktime (Error 2330)

I would be eternally grateful to anyone who can help me uninstall Quicktime, so that I can install iTunes. I've googled the error, but not yet found a solution that works. Every time I try to uninstall it, I get error 2330. I've tried add/remove programs, CCleaner, etc.
Please, please help me if you can!

I had same problem today. I still haven't been able to uninstall quicktime but was able to get around it by renaming quicktime. After renaming quicktime I downloaded the new version of itunes (8) without a problem and my new ipod nano now works fine.

  • Need to uninstall QuickTime 7.1

I need to uninstall QuickTime 7.1 and roll back to QuickTime 7.0.1. How can I manually uninstall QuickTime? What do I need to delete / remove from my system?
I have a software product called 3D Java that currently doesn't work with QuickTime 7.1. I have talked with the vendor to resolve the issue, but they told me to roll back to QuickTime 7.0.1 or upgrade to Tiger because of the issues with their product and the newer version of QuickTime. They also told me that they are trying to get Apple to create a reinstall to a prior version of QuickTime.
    Thanks!
    733 MHz PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

It is a little frustrating to see Apple pumping out software updates like a pez dispenser - everything from Security Updates - to bits and pieces of their iLife Suite - and all the rest of it - while not integrating an uninstaller or reinstaller on their QT release. But I'd assume one is forthcoming.
It is one thing to have a new version of Quicktime that negates the functionality of third-party software until such time as those vendors release new versions - I get that - happens every time. It's something else altogether to release a QT version that seems to be disrupting some of the core functionalites of QT and also giving people (esp. intel folks) a rash of other headaches.

  • Can't get iTunes to open, Can't uninstall QuickTime. Why?

When I try to open QuickTime I get "Error -2095, make sure QuickTime is properly installed." Vers 6.5.0.48
When I try to open iTunes "encountered a problem and needs to close." Vers 7.0.2.16
I read forum and advice was to uninstall iTunes, which I was able to do successfully.
Then I tried to uninstall QuickTime and got: C:\windows\system32\QUICKT~1\UNINS~1.log
    Exception C:\windows\system32\shell32.dll\control_rundll
I went to windows explorer and found system32\QuickTime and the uninstall file is there but system does not think it is there.
I am in a quandry. I love my ipod nano, 2gb, which I bought a few days ago, but I sure wish I had read these forum postings before buying. I am discouraged, disheartened, disappointed.
I have 363 songs on my ipod now and would love to move new songs to ipod, but can't get anything to work.
Any help out there? Is there anyone from Apple who can help? hello? Is there a phone number for Apple tech support?
Thanks for any help on this issue.

    Check out this Apple help:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
It sounds as though you need the bit towards the bottom of that page called:
Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer
You can get the Windows Installer Cleanup utility here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
BTW iTunes cannot work if Quicktime doesn't work.

  • ITunes will not launch - can't uninstall Quicktime

I'm really, really annoyed with iTunes.
Rebuilt computer and installed iTunes 7 on a fresh config after antivirus software and firewall were installed. Had sound problems but managed to fix them.
Rebooted and tried to open up iTunes - only to get an error, rebooted again, same thing. Tried opening Quicktime - same. Tried Quicktime settings from control panel - a Fatal error has occured.
Uninstalled iTunes, with an eye to trying to install it again. That worked, but when I tried to uninstall Quicktime it got half way, then "A fatal error has occured". Tried downloading and installing Quicktime without iTunes - that wouldn't even run.
Tried iTunes install anyway, but got the same problems as before. Tried v.6.5 - but that claimed the freshly downloaded file from Apple was corrupt.
I now cannot uninstall or use Quicktime, cannot use iTunes or update my iPods and am really fed up with Apple over this shoddy update.
I've searched through the support pages, but cannot find a fix for this problem.
I'd be happy to try any fixes that might be around, especially if it means I can get v.6.5 on my machine (which worked fine!)
For now, I'm going to be searching out another player for my audio and video.
    Most dissapointed.

Tried opening Quicktime - same. Tried Quicktime settings from control panel - a Fatal error has occured.
that corresponds to a "standalone 1603" error message on earlier versions of the itunes and quicktime installers.
    let's try this first.
    here's what we'll try first.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1.3 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1.3 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1.3 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes
if that install goes through okay, reboot the PC and try another itunes install. does that go through okay this time?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • Can't upgrade iTunes... can't uninstall QuickTime

    Help!!
I've missed a couple of upgrades to iTunes, waiting to investigate the problem - error 1322, a portion of the path exceeds the maximum length allowed by the system.
Now I think I've isolated it. If I try and uninstall Quicktime (version 7.1) I get the same problem.
So I think uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime will help. But how do I do that - I can't get past the error.
Any experienced insights will be welcomed!
    Thank you
      Windows XP

I just solved a similar problem by using "Windows Install Clean Up" to completely remove my old version of Quicktime. Be very careful using this program, since it removes programs from the Window's registry. You can download it from Microsoft's web site.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Be sure to carefully read all the instructions on the webpage before using the program.
Run the "Windows Install Clean Up" program.
Select Quicktime and remove it. Don't select anything else!
After this, try updating iTunes. I hope it works for you.
