Can't get a clip to behave as Dual Mono

FCPX 10.0.9 is refusing to treat just one of my clips as dual mono.
When I right-click, show in timeline, it opens in a timeline with a single audio track showing.
For all the other clips / projects, right-click -> show in timeline reveals two separate audio tracks.
This clip was shot in the same exact way as every other clip. In fact, it was shot in between other clips that work.
When i select the clip, the inspector shows Channel Configuration - Dual Mono, in both the timeline and the event browser. Same as all the other clips.
If only I could slip the audio separately in the project timeline - but if I try, all I can do is select part of the clip - I can "Expand audio components" and see the two mono tracks in the timeline... but if I try to move them, all I can do is select parts of the clip, whichever tool I use. Can't move them separately.
Here's what I've tried:
1. trashing and re-importing the clip.
2. trashing and recreating the project.
3. doing both of those together.
3. duplicating the clip and importing that into a project. (this solved the same problem for another clip, but doesn't work on the current clip).
4. Quitting FCP and restarting.
5. Setting the source clip to stereo, back to dual mono, then re-placing it into the project.
6. Waiting for all the background rendering, wavefom generating, etc (this solved it for another clip that was refusing to be dual mono).
7. Copying the camera card to the hard drive and importing from there instead of straight from the card.
8. Importing the clip with "separate mono and group stereo audio" checked, then again with it unchecked
9. Opening the clip in quicktime pro 7 and changing the audio channels from "left" and "right" to "mono" and "mono."
10 quitting, renaming the clip in the finder, and reopening FCPX
One thing I notice is that through all theses steps, FCPX never has to re-generate the audio waveform files for this clip. It is seemingly remembering the clip and using a saved audio metadata set of some kind, which I think prevents me from solving the problem...
Dang! I was so enjoying FCPX after a year of premiere pro. Thought 10.0.9 had ironed out a lot of bugs, but glitches are the worst thing ever.

OK, when I "expand audio + video" in the project timeine I get...
Then collapse that, and "expand audio components"
Wow! Dual mono. And the waveforms are clearly different, indicating true dual-mono. But I can't seem to independently move those tracks; all my tools just try to select parts of the clip.
If I click the clip and "open in timeline", it looks as above, but I no longer have the option to "expand audio components."
So for a different example, one that worked without any trouble or tricks...
Then right-click, open in timeline...
Very different result. That clip was shot AFTER the non-working one. The clip I shot before works as well. The odds that I changed something on my camera for that one clip, and then changed it back...??
I went through all my camera switches and menus (HMC-150, shooting AVCHD) and can't find anything remotely relevant to the problem at hand.
Also, as I said in my list of attempts at solving, a couple of other clips had the same problem and it went away with solutions 3 + 6 above. So it's definitely, in my mind, a program glitch.

Media folder is empty, how can I get the clips back?

The first time, this problem appeared was when I imported data in a new project. For two times the import stopped and I didn't find any clips in the media folder.
Then I succeded with importing and worked on the project several hours.
But now theres no data from this project on the computer anymore, after I had worked on it today. I didn't save any changes, just pressed "apple Z" and the i Movie window was empty, clips disappeared and stuff. The media folder is empty again and when I start iMovie it sais, that it can't find the clips.
The clips are not in the waste basket and i searched for it everywhere but i can't find them.
Do you know what could have happened and how I can get my data back?
I have an older version, iMovie 3.0.3 on Mac Pro.

Normally Apple-Z will undo just the last thing I've done but yesterday it deleted everything and I don't know how to get it back.
True, that is what should have happened, but in your case for some reason it cleared the lot. If there is nothing in the media folder, and nothing in the trash, then it sounds as though you have truly lost everything. The big question is really why the problem occurred in the first place.
As Lennart says, you should not still be using imovie 3.

How can I get a clip in a fixed position?

Dear people,
i have a question for you. I am making a video clip. In the clip I use a lot of short clips of 10 seconds
or less after one another. Transitions, effects, everything is working great. But how do fix a clip on the timeline.
Everytime I change the lenght of one of the short clips, all the other clips are moving out of their position.
I hope there is a solution, otherwise i have a huge problem. Heeelp!

Here You meet the border of Amateurism and Professionalism.
This can not be done (with any form of ease) in any version of iMovie.
BUT - this is a standard way of working in FinalCut up to version Express 4 or pro 7
(What can or can't be done in FCP-X still is a mystery to me)
So either - document every clip on a number of frame basis in iMovie up to HD6 and do this very carefully and tedious labor.
Or try to find a second hand version of any previous version of FinalCut.
iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - I'm not sure that one can document each clip at frame exact notification. May be ?
And of course one can do this in QuickTime Pro - BUT then at a need of an even higher level of carefulness and skill.

How can I get video clips dated 12/29/10 and later do not show in view screen. (iMac 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/OSX 10.6.8)

Pre 12/29/10 clips show fine in viewer window but anything more recent does not. Consequently, I don't have any way to work with them. I'm still on iMovie '08. Would upgrading to '11 help? My video clips were entered into iPhoto from a Canon still camera with the ability to take one minute video. The video format is labeled MVI (#) AVI in iPhoto. None of the video clips run in iPhoto but they all run on my 1st generation iPad!
Can anyone help me with this problem? I'd like to do a movie of my grandson as well as our new puppy.

You are only running on 2GB of RAM. IMHO 4GB woud be the minimum to realistically run Mavericks on, although the more the better.

I tried to fast forward a clip and it said it wasn't an option. I tried to do it with the instant replay and the slow motion and it didn't work as well. . How can I fix this?

How can I get two clips to look normal while layered?

Hi! I've been scouring the internet looking for an answer, and as a last resort I've come here. I am trying to make a video where it looks like I barely lay down in time before a car drives over me. It's really just a test video, but I still want it to be well done.
I have tried simply changing the crop zone on them so that the car and me can be seen in the same shot; however, the crop lines are visible, I don't go under the car, and that makes it look just plain bad.
I have also messed around with the composite modes, but that changes the lighting, and make me or the car see through.
The last thing I tried was changing opacity, but that made me or the car see through again.
To recap: I kept my tripod in the same place, so the backdrop is the same, however in one shot I walk, lay down in the street, get up and walk away, and in the other a car drives by. I also have some shots of just the backdrop. I want the shot to be all original footage of mine, and look quite normal. Just me walking into the street, laying down and a car driving over me. No need to change shadows or anything, just testing layering.

How can I get video clips to play in a browser?

Scenario: A client visits my Web site. A shockwave movie plays automatically. It contains a video clip. When the SW movie encounters the frame containing the movie clip, it simply skips over it and continues. The video never plays. I have tried avi, windows media, mpeg and quicktime with the same results.
I have found that the video plays fine as long as I open the director movie with Director. But when I open it with a browser, the video clip does not play. I have tried Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers.
Does someone know what I am missing to make the video play in a browswer?

Presumably you have code to stop the playhead from moving while the video plays? You might want to post it.
If you are testing this locally, you need a folder named "dswmedia" somewhere in the path or linked content, like your video file, won't be found. Check the docs for more details.

HT3399 Is this still valid on mountian lion? I can't get the F2 to behave as regular F2 with standard config and holding the Fn key.

If I disable the option to use the special keys, they work as specified... F2 will behave as normal F2 and Fn-F2 will raise brightness. But the revers is not working for me on Mountain Lion .

An A&I will install a fresh OS X - hopefully eliminating whatever happened with the AT&T disk. You would, of course, have to update OS X to current levels for 10.2.

How can I get my CLIP working?

I'm trying to figure out how to use CLIP with Labview FPGA 8.6.
I've created a small vhdl file and matching xml file. For some reason, simulation shows the output vector as random data. Output is stuck at zero when I run it on my PXI-7811R.
I wonder if my link to the vhdl file within the xml file is invalid?
I tried following the tutorial, and I'm pretty close, but something is not quite right.

I'm glad to see you are trying out the CLIP feature of LabVIEW 8.6. It sounds like you have 2 questions:
1 - Why does my CLIP produce random data in simulation?
2 - Why does my CLIP produce no data when running in hardware?
Regarding #1 - By simulation I assume this means you have selected "Execute VI on Development Computer with Simulated I/O" in the Debugging tab of the FPGA Target Properties menu. In this mode CLIP I/O will produce either random data or data from a VI you specify (also configured in the same menu). Therefore, if you would like more realistic I/O data in your simulation, you must write a VI to generate this data.
Note - Some targets allow you to connect data from Real I/O to your simulated FPGA VI. However, this capability does not exist for CLIP I/O.
Regarding #2 - I looked at your CLIP files briefly and I noticed one problem - the reset signal in your CLIP VHDL is active low. The reset signal from LabVIEW FPGA is active-high. This means when running in hardware your CLIP will be held in reset. Try inverting the reset in your CLIP VHDL (i.e. if reset = '1'...). I will review our documentation - we may need to make this reset polarity more clear in the documentation.

Can't get movie clip to play on Mp3 player

I have a Coby mP3 player that works well with Mac, except movie clips must be in MTV to work. I have a Quicktime movie clip off the internet, i want to put on the Mp3 player, if possible. Any way to convert the movie so it functions??

Easiest way is going to be to drop a few bucks for a utility like TubeSock. There are free ways, but they're tedious, and many of them require Quicktime Pro. Search the forums if you want.

How can I get an image or clip in front of the first transition with auto transition on?

I have been trying to set up a project using auto transitions. I cannot get a clip to start before the first transition. The problem is when I post the project to Smugmug or FaceBook the preview box that appears is black. I want it to show the first frame of the clip to give an indication of the content of the clip. The only option seems to be to turn off automatic transitions and manually put them it at each break.
Any ideas?

What program was the artwork created in and what version of Illustrator are you using? ALWAYS provide this information first so we know what features you have available.
If everything is native Illustrator artwork, then you can probably copy the portion of the paw you want outside the circle and use a PathFinder command to merge that shape with the circle, then put the resultant shape behind the artwork.

How can I get back the Web Clip widget in Dashborad?

I accidentally deleted the Web Clip widget together with the Web Clip.wdg in Library/Widgets/ folder by AppCleaner some time ago. Now I cannot use this function to clip content in pages. I have the widget icon in Safari and can crop the webpage without problems, but after I did this action, nothing appeared or happened in the Dashboard since the original web clip widget file is gone.
I would like to know where and how I can get back the Web Clip.wdg file so that I can perform the Web Clip function again?
I just saw a user who posted a similar topic on Dec 28, 2008 and his/her problem is solved. I have this same problem like his/hers.

I have tried to use Time Machine to get back the Web Clip but still couldn't, and very strange is when I click Time Machine, I can only choose Windows Applications as the back up disk but not Macintosh Applications, so I cannot restore anything from Macintosh applications.
I think the best is if anyone has this widget on their Mac and can kindly send it to me by e-mail?

Premiere Pro keeps shutting down and I can't get rid of video clip from timeline

Lately, Premiere Pro keeps bringing up a message when I'm working on my project that says "serious error, Adobe Premier Pro needs to shut down". It's happened four times now. I've tried restarting the computer, uninstalling some programs I wasn't using, and even running updates that were needed. Still no luck. Also, in between shutdowns, there's a clip on my timeline that I imported from YouTube, and I can't get rid of it when I click "Cut" or "Clear". Any idea on why these things are happening?
