Can't get a green light

All I get on my Airport Express is a steady amber light (after it's taken a minute or two to start up). When I look for it with airport set up assistant utility the amber light flashes briefly, but that's all. Can't see it on the utility (though I can see my neighbor's....). Tried resetting it but that didn't seem to help. Thoughts??

I think this partially solved the problem. I was able to reset it and rename it. It shows up in my list of networks now. BUT... (1) the amber light remains on (blinking) an (2) what I want to be able to do is stream music via iTunes on one computer via the wireless network (using Time Capsule) and then listen to it on remote speakers using the AEX. I was able to do that before I converted to the Time Capsule as my wireless router. I'm thinking it might have some to do with how the AEX is configured, but not sure how to configure it to accomplish my goal.

Orange and green flashing is unfortunately a failure indication.
How old is the Time Capsule?

  • Can't get camera green light to turn off !

    Hello,
I hope this is the right forum to post this question, if not sorry and please direct me if you can to the correct area.
I have an 08 Macbook. Never had a problem with it since it's barely a year old. One thing I have noticed is that my camera's green light is ALWAYS on. I never run any apps that would use the camera, I have gone back made sure they were all closed, made sure that nothing was to open automatically in startup that would cause it to turn on as well. Yet it continues to persist. The strange thing is that when I open Photobooth the screen is black! I have no idea why this is happening.
I did some quick googling and the only way I can get it to turn off is to start my computer by doing command option p r.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can make it stop once and for all? I don't want my camera being on all the time and it freaks me out that there are no apps using it!
    Thanks

    Hi EZ Jim,
    I would consider iGlasses first.
Back ground app launched at Start Up but not listed in System Preferences > Accounts > Login items and available to all apps that can access the camera including a Web Browser.
Have not tried it Safari 4 and that Favourite pages bit that might hold Mebeam of Googlemail Chat page in the History.
The Screen Saver might be a bit of a stretch.
I am presuming that 1) he might have one and 2) it is not releasing the camera when not doing Screen Saving.
I am also presuming it might have a faulty idle time that makes the OS think the Screen Saver should be in view or possibly the time is set so short regular input is the only thing stopping the screen Saver from showing.
I am not sure many people would regard it as "an App" as such either, hence my phrasing.
The Nanny Cam stuff may be an app.
I have Evocam of the two we regularly mention and it can be hidden (Or set to Hide on using red Button).
That might need me to presume the computer is not shut down that often as it does not have an Option to add it to Login items on my Leopard Computer.
Whilst Hidden though, it can continue to stream.
This one was the furthest stretch.
So I thinks some are possibles.
Nanny cam is the most unlikely but depends on the app involved settings.
As part of the specs do suggest security then we have to consider some with access to the computer might look in the most obvious places first to see what was running, DOCK Login Items (I am not sure the Screen Saver I tried could push/stream/record or alert by email if movement was seen) but seeing Screen Saver set in System Preferences may not (should not) tell you that info.
(Says he dragging nanny cam stuff back into the picture )
Off to bed for me with so much Think Different stuff going on.
    Catch you soon.

  • I am using my time capsule to back up and I can not get the green light, what should I do

    Hi everyone
I posted a quesiton yesterday and when I got up this morning the time machine / capsule (not sure of the difference) had unlocked itself!. The other problem persists and that is that the amber light continues to flash and I can not get the macbook to talk to the time thingy.
Obviously I am not very good at these things and I live in a country where I-systems knows about as much as I do!
    Thank you
    Gillian

So you have never actually used the airport utility.. you were almost there.
    You posted this picture.

Click edit button on that page.
Voila.. airport utility in all its manual setting glory.
Or install a decent utility.. 5.6.
This is not required but to my eyes.. it is much easier to understand and has more useful tool items than later versions.. which are made iOS pretty picture like.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.
For screen shots see this post.

  • I can't get a green light on the airport express.  I went to the store and he said my BT router is probably blocking the extension of the network.  He said I could put the serial number of the router straight into the browser, then it would give me d

My BT homehub is blocking the extension of my wireless network via the airport express, so I don't get a greenlight.  The guy in the store said to put the wireless number direct into the browser and it would then give me directions as to how to unlock the BT network.  But when I do that nothing happens, so I still have no idea how to unlock and extend the wireless network.  Any ideas?

If you are trying to extend the wireless network provided by the BT Home Hub with the AirPort Express, this won't work as the two are not WDS compatible.

  • I changed my internet box and now my airport extreme light flashes amber what I need to do to get the green light back

I changed my internet box and now my airport extreme light is flashing amber but I have internet connection, how can I get the green light back

When you change modem (the internet box I presume) you should reset the AE to factory and redo the setup completely.
However if you merely want to stop the amber flashing.. find the cause.
Open the airport utility and click on the AE..
It will give you a list of faults or problems... fix each one and the light will turn green.
The most likely fault is double NAT.
That means the AE should be in bridge mode.. but if you list the fault we can give you further help with what to do to fix it if you cannot understand the instructions.
Apple does give a procedure to remove the problem although it may not always be the best solution.
eg Ignore.. the light will turn green.
Lately Apple is saying to use double NAT and ignore the problem.. I do not thing that is a good idea at all.
To bridge however may be easier after a full factory reset than trying to do a change to the setup.
If you run Yosemite.. then I recommend the following.. please read AE for TC.. (Time Capsule is what I mainly use but the setup is identical).
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
In your case bridge is most likely required.. and it is up to you how you deal with this one.. for now see if it is stable.. if it gives you issues come back and fix it.
    4. Set IPv6 to link-local only on the computer..
This is strange one in that apple should have fixed this up ages ago.. but we are finding the auto setting even on Yosemite is still giving the wrong setup.

  • How can I get my keyboard lights to come on?

How can I get my keyboard lights to come on? When I press the button to turn them up higher, I get a sign meaning I cannot do that. Any help?

    MegoStello,
There are a few situations when you won't see the keyboard light up as much as you might. If you're in a bright place or outside, the keyboard backlight won't come on. If you're on battery, your MBP may reduce power consumption by cutting off your backlit keyboard.
On the other hand, you'll nearly always see the backlit keyboard if you're plugged in. In short, your MBP tries to manage your power usage according to your needs.
MegoStello, if you found this info moderately useful, let me know in this thread. That's how I know if my info is what you need!

  • How can I get back my lighting styles?

    Hi,
I took away all the lighting styles (17 of them) from my Photoshop Elements by mistake, not understanding that they would disappear
completely. I cannot seem to find them anywhere on my coomputer any more. How can I get them back?

Thank you for the answers so far. As to hatstead's link, I'll check that out. As to R Kelly's comments, yes, I am talking about the styles in Filter-Render-Lighting Effects (although my version is in Swedish). The problem is, I likely do not have another version at home or anywhere else, plus I am afraid I have thrown the disk away when cleaning (why did I ever do that? sigh!) - the program came with my desktop in 2007 and I never bothered much about it until I started playing with it lately - and then this mistake happened. I believed the "take away" button in lighting effects just meant that the style then on top would go away from the picture I was working on, but I was wrong...

  • Screen keeps going black and I can't get it to light back up

I just purchased a "pinkberry" and am getting very frustrated with it. It keeps going black and no matter what buttons I push I cannot get it to light back up. I got it yesterday and charged it for about 12 hours so I know it's not that the battery is low.

seems like a hardware problem. Return the device to where you bought it and claim a new one.

  • Can't get the charge light to turn green

I have had the unit plugged into my Powerbook G4 overnight and still the orange light does not change to green ( charged). What's up?
    Tom Jamrog
    POwerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Thomas Jamrog,
Was the PowerBook in sleep mode at all during the night?
If so the iPod Shuffle (Second Generation) may not charge while the computer is in sleep mode.
The last 20% of the battery is trickle charged and takes approximately 2 hours of the 4 hour estimated charge time. If the charging is interupted, the trickle charge portion may need to start over.
    Thank you,
    Nathan C.

  • Trying to set up airport extreme with a dsl modem and get DSN server not found message .   Get a green light on airport but no internet modem and get

Am attempting to set up a Wi Fi network with an airport extreme.    Get most of the way through the setup  (have a dsl modem) but get an error that it cannot connect to the internet.   Says I have a problem with a DSN server and asks for  what appears to be a series of numbers.    I had an old airport express working for some time and never saw this.
Decided to upgrade since the express was not powerful enough to work in the whole house.

It is always a good idea when changing out networking hardware to perform a complete power recycle of all of your networking gear.
    Please try the following:
Power-down the modem, AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), and computer(s). Leave them powered-off for at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to make sure that is has enough time to initialize.
Power-up (plug into power) the AEBS; wait at least 5-10 minutes or until its status light is a solid green. (Note: The status light may continue to flash amber after this timeframe. This is ok as it may just be letting you know that some additional configuration items need to be taken care of like setting up wireless security.)
    Power-up the computer(s).
Computers connected to the AEBS by either wire or wireless should now be able to access the Internet. Please post back your results.

  • Error B839FEAC can't get beyond flashing lights

I have an HP 6600 Officejet.  I am trying to get beyond the message "Printer Error"   "Please turn Printer Off and then On".
When I press the On/Off button it only goes through a restart and will not turn all the way off.  They as it goes through the start up a blue screen pops up momentarily with the code: B839FEAC.  From my research that seems to be something to do with the WiFi card.
I have restarted the printer about 5 times using the On/Off button and I have tried unplugging the device and then reconnecting but that does not seem to do anything either.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are getting the error B839FEAC with your HP Officejet 6600, and I am happy to help you!
Please make sure the power cable is plugged directly to the wall outlet, not a surge-protector. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
For further assistance, I will need to know:

  • Just set up the time capsule, connected everything per the set up  instructions, can't get the amber light to stop blinking.

I have tried to re-start my modem and the time capsule, both to no avail. The amber light keeps blinking, and the software cannot find it wirelessly.

Reset it to factory and redo the setup.. this happens a lot now if you have moved on the Mavericks..
Make sure ipv6 is set to link-local for your wireless.
Otherwise use an iOS device with the latest firmware and use the airport utility for iOS.. it is much more reliable than the computer version.
