Can't get additional Spotlight search criteria

When I do a spotlight search, and click on the "plus" button to reveal additional search criteria options, the space opens up but the controls are not shown. I uploaded a screenshot to demonstrate.
I deleted the com.apple.spotlight prefs file to no avail. Anything else I should try, a cache that could be cleared? Or is there a setting somewhere I'm missing? Thanks for any help.

Resetting my Finder preferences by remove the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist (or, to preserve your settings in case this tip doesn't work, just move that file out of that folder) brought back the additional search criteria choices but not the right sidebar sort listing

How can I get Firefox to search my computer for plugins that are already there?
Adobe's Flash player is already on my computer from IE 8. How can I get Firefox to see that it is already on my PC and use it so I don't have to download it again and possibly create other problems. Also, in my efforts to download Flash, Firefox activated IE which made me concerned that proceeding WOULD cause problems our just leave me where I am now where IE can use Flask but Firefox cannot.

Internet Explorer uses a ActiveX version of the Flash player plugin as it does not work with other browsers.
Download the Plugin-based browsers version from https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html and make sure Firefox is closed when you install it.

  • How can I turn off Spotlight search on the iPhone6?

I know how to switch off various search options but I want the whole Spotlight search facility disabled. The iPhone 6 is so big that whenever I am swiping between screens I manage to activate the Spotlight search screen. I want it disabled

To the best of my knowledge, you can't disable it. You can go to Settings>Spotlight Search and uncheck all of the boxes this way if you pull it down, you can't accidentally click anything. Other than that you can't do it without jailbreaking. Hope this helps.

  • Can't get the Google search box in toolbar

I've been working on getting my new iMac 27" with Mountain Lion functional, and now I've run into a problem I don't seem to find others are having -- I can't get the Google search box into the toolbar. It just won't go there. I've dragged the thing from the View>Customize Toolbar, and I've also tried dragging the whole toolbar, and nothing sticks. I get a little green plus symbol, as if it's adding it to the toolbar, release, and then...nothing. As much as I like Duck Duck Go, there are still things I need the old Goog for, and I'm bewildered by why this won't stick. There don't seem to be any actual settings for it either, just the drag and drop.
This whole setup has been beyond frustrating. I wish I'd never upgraded.

    Safari 6
Apple combined Google search bar with URL address bar in Safari 6.
Apple calls it Smart Search Field.
There is no more a separate search field. You enter the Google search in the unified address bar.
    Best.

You can't. It's now integrated with the URL bar. It's a search/URL combo.

  • I have tried all can not get firefox to search for website

    I run Windows XP.
It all began with the fiollowing error - "could not load xpcom. From there I redownloaded and installed - the foillowing scenario followed on this.
I can not get firefox to connect to the net.
I re downloaded and installed firefox, 3 times, no difference.
My home page shows on my desk top screen - but it clearly does not work as it will not do any searches and connect to other websites.
When trying to use in "Options" it closes the firefox home page, as though I had exited it.
I have now spent 2 days reading and trying all as given in firefox help and community forum - nothing I read fits the bill, or has been of any assistance.
The search field is empty and I can not get it to accept a search engine name like google or any other. I know firefox has a choice - but the pull down choice menu does not open.
I am now at a total loss and desperate to get back to work having wasted 22 days already trying to repair same.
I tried the automatically install add ons as per this very "automatically add" button, but it says Firefox can not modify the required file.
    Please help I am desperate!

As I said, I have read about all.
There is no solution there for me - I am not an internet guru and must be honest some of the solution provided seem high tech and beyond me - they refer to certain aspects of the system which I do not see on my computer.
I would like some one to give me a step by step solution if there is one.
It began as follows when I tried to open firefox...
It told me (for some reason) about 5 days ago ..."could not load xpcom."
I have read and read and eventually found what I thought would be the solution. - Reinstall.
I re downloaded/installed the latest version of Firefox. Now the page opens but it is inert - does no searching and does not accept any search engine addition - neither does it provide a choice of search engine as it used to do.
I USED THE FIREFOX PAGE ABOUT 5 DAYS AGO SAME COMPUTER.
I can open various url's which i have saved for research purposes and also things like my bank account to do tfrs. No problem.
    My email also works fine.
For some reason the newly installed version of Firefox does not see the internet or react to anything - (have reinstalled 3 times) -neither does it accept anything one types into the search field - when I click to activate the search it simply deletes it.
I need some "help fpr dummies" please
Thank you for your interest to help - much appreciated.
    Hans

  • Can I make the spotlight search on my iweb website search through comments

I just recently created a website using iweb. I was wondering if anyone knows how to make the spotlight search on my blog page search within the comments of that page or the whole site? That would be the best way, but I would also consider generating an internal search engine for the site through google, ect... if anyone has any information on either off these topics I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Spotlight won't do, .mac blog comments are stored on server side.
Spotlight only works when things get indexed and spotlight can't index them.
don't think google site search will do either..

  • Spotlight Search Criteria doesnt appear

Hi! After the 10.5.2 update the search criteria in the Spotlight doesnt appear when I hit the + button at right, just a grey line under. I tried this in the guest account and it works fine, but not on my admin account. Have anybody the same problem or can anybody help me to repair this?

This might help: Move this file to the Desktop and restart or log out and back in again. It's in your Home Folder Library. The system will create a new one automatically. The old one may be corrupt.
    /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.spotlight.plist
It may be necessary to restore your Spotlight settings in Sys Prefs after. Also, this might be a symptom of not enough free space on the drive. Do a getinfo (CMD-I) on the Macintosh HD folder. You should keep around 15%-20% free.

  • How can I get rid of search history in Safari on my iPad?

When I highlight one to delete, the search kicks in. How can I get rid of the history?

You can go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, cookies and data and then delete every bookmark and that should clear it temporarily, but it will only be temporary. As soon as you starting using the search again, then suggestions will appear again.
I think that I may have misread your question - if you want to clear all of the history - use the Clear History button in the upper right corner of the History window. You cannot delete one item at a time.

  • How can I change the default "search criteria" in Finder?

I can't seem to find any way to change the default search criteria when I search for a file in Finder. I have to select "show search criteria" and deselect the criteria every time I search for a file.. annoying!

When I do that it just makes a Smart Folder search, which I can save and put on the side bar, then click on and use, but does not allow me to open Finder, type in the search field, and go. Any other ideas?

  • Spotlight Search Criteria not displaying

The usual Search Criteria options (the drop-down selection boxes for 'kind' and 'date) that usually appear below the search target bar when you click the plus-sign have disappeared. The space for the options drops down but inputs don't appear.
I have repaired the permissions and re index the hard-disk within spotlight, but no change. Any ideas?

This might help: Move this file to the Desktop and restart or log out and back in again. It's in your Home Folder Library. The system will create a new one automatically. The old one may be corrupt.
    /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.spotlight.plist

  • Can't get rid of search.conduit

search.conduit has taken over as my homepage and I can't get rid of it. I've tried removing it from Manage My Search Engines. I've tried disabling the add-ons. I've tried 're-set' by entering about:config in the address bar. None of this has worked. Can anyone suggest anything else? Thanks in advance

Which page is the home page?
If there is a problem with searching via the default about:home page then try to reset the search engine used on the about:home page.
Reset the <b>browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone</b> pref via the right-click context menu to the default on the <b>about:config</b> page and close and restart Firefox to restore the about:home page to its default.
#Open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar
#Type in the Filter bar: mstone
#Right-click the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone line and select: Reset
    #Close and restart Firefox
If this didn't help then delete the delete the chromeappsstore.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder and repeat the above.

  • No matter which bookmark i click on or url i type, firefox connects to yahoo!search, and even from there i cannot connect to the desired webpage. how can i get yahoo!search permanently disabled?

since this morning [1 may] i cannot connect to any bookmarked or other url [except the firefox homepage?!], because the only connection made is to yahoo!search. and even when yahoo!search displays the search result correctly to the site i want to go on, if i click on that i only get returned to yahoo!search again. since i prefer not to use yahoo!search at all, how can i disable yahoo!search permanently?

There are other things that need your attention.
Check that you do not run Firefox in compatibility mode or with a reduced screen resolution.
You can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu and check the "Compatibility" tab.
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
You can check if you have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the browser\searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder.
If not then you need to reinstall Firefox.
Try to delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.
Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

  • SBLive 24bit-can't get additional software to inst

    hi,
I recently did a fresh install of win xp pro sp2,
and I can not get the extra software to work properly,
EAX controls is mainly what I want.
default scenario is I have no drivers/software installed,
I pop the disc in, and let it work its magic,
I restart, and low and behold, no sound works,
but I can get into the EAX controls and other like applications.
but if I unistall the drivers,
then do a hardware scan from computer management>device manager,
and let windows find the sound card on it's own,
then let windows install the drivers it was from the disc,
THEN my sound will work, but then when I go to EAX,
it says: "the aduio device supported by this application is not detected.
    the App will now close"
it seems to be an "either-or" situation,
either I get the EAX applications to work with no sound,
or I get the sound to work with no EAX controls.
I also tried to download "updated drivers" from the site here,
that didn't work either.. any one got any ideas?
I had this card working on my old installations for a year or more,
but it was a SP install, so that "might" make a difference?
when I do a self diagnostic,
with the sound working and no EAX controls,
it comes back and tells me,
    hardware detection: pass
    wave driver: fail
    midi driver: fail
    mixer driver: fail
    directsound 3d driver: fail
    mixer setting check: fail

well doing that clean up only worked so far,
after doing it twice, when it came down to re-install my software,
I kept noticing that it only gave me options to "Modify" and the required space was 0
and there was no option toget a full install.
The trick was to use the disc to "remove" & uninstall everything,
then when I tried again, I got the proper full installation options.
    now everything works great :-p
not sure what happened on my first install I did :-\
    thanks for your help!

  • HT6031 I can't get additional lessons to install for guitar

The program, shows a progress bar, and looks like it downloading,  but then gives me an error when complete, check internet connection.
My interenet is fine, as that is how I got this to post!
I deleted the garageband, and reinstalled,  still does the same thing...
Running Maverics, and latest version, on I7 iMac and have 400gigs free on install drive, and another 4TB on lightning drive.
    What am I doing wrong?

What is your operating system?  What exactly means "can,t get Adobe Flash to install" - do you get any error messages?
