Can't get AddressBook to import

I've read pleas for help on the fringe of this subject, but not exactly my problem. I recently bought a new drive and transferred all my apps and files to it (reinstalling most everything). I'm having trouble, however, getting my AddressBook names and numbers from my Previous System folder. I can't seem to import them. I can't export them from the old AddressBook... the old AddressBook won't open from my Previous system (it opens, but it's the same as the new AddressBook... empty!) Also, I can't import my iTunes music library, sort of the same problem. Can anyone advise me on how to get them pulled over? I did get my Mail program to import all my email from the old System. So I've made some headway.
Thanks in advance!
Leonard

Problem solved. Thanks.

  • I've moved an internal hard drive with all my music and library files to a new computer --- how can I get itunes to import the whole library while keeping my metadata?

I've always kept all my music on its own dedicated internal hard drive.  Now I've got a new PC, finally made the switch to Windows 7 from XP, and I've moved my internal hard drive over to the new machine.
I installed iTunes, but I'm having a heck of a time getting it to import the music and library files, keeping all my playlists and metadata.  Why is this so hard?

If your New to You Used Mac is froom mid 2012 and originally came with Lion installed on it you will need to Reinstall that version using the Online Internet Recovery system and then at first boot of the new install use the Setup Assistant system to copy over all the data from your wifes old hard drive.
To access the Online system at startup hold down the Command + Option/alt + r keys and keep them held down until you see a globe on the screen. From the resulting screen that cames up, Mac OS X Utilities, select Disk Utility and then the top most entry for the hard drive, left hand panel, drive model number and size, and then the Partition tab. Repartition the drive as One Partition, You Must do that to get ride of the Mavericks Recovery HD partition which is hidden. Name the partition Macintosh HD with a format of Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Once that is done exit disk utility and select Reinstall Mac OS X.

  • We are having old home movies put on DVD's. How do we import them to MacBook Pro using Snow Leopard and iMovie 8.0.6.  Can watch the video, but can't get it to import.

We are having old home movies put on DVD's. How do we import them to MacBook pro using Snow Leopard and iMovie 8.0.6?  Can watch the movies on the laptop, but they will not import.

We took 3 video cassette 8mm that were recorded in the early 90's to a place that burned the videos onto 3 DVDs.  When inserted to our Mac, the DVD player comes on to play the DVD. Opened Quicktime, but can find no way to import. Went to File>Open File>Sony_DVD_Recorder_Volume. Clicked on Sony_DVD-Recorder_Volume and it shows a file named VIDEO_TS.  Clicked on that and 6 files showed VIDEO_TS.BUP,   VTS_01-0.BUP,   VTS_01_0.IFO,  VTS-01_1.VOB,   VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.VOB.  Where is DVDxDV?

  • I brought in a slideshow but photos didn't include comments.  How can I get my comments imported along with the pictures?

I brought in a slideshow but photos didn't include comments.  How do I get my comments?

First make sure you've added the comments you want to show in the Add a Description field in iPhoto or in the Title field.  If you put them in the Title field and you envoke the feature in iDVD you won't have to delete the title from each slide to give you just the desciption.  Or batch remove the Titles from all the photos before you add them to the iDVD project. You can allways get them back with the Photos ➙ Batfch Change menu option later on.
Click on the cog wheel menu button at the bottom and select Show titles and comments checkbox.

  • Can't get iTunes to import any CD's...constantly crashes when I try

Here is my problem: Bought an iPod for the first time, downloaded iTunes after reformatting computer. I cannot import any CD's at all, new, never played, any type of CD. The error message I get when I click import CD is:
    AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 7.5.0.20 ModName: itunes.exe
    ModVer: 7.5.0.20 Offset: 00b5ef14
I have checked the computer, Dell Dimension E510, for spyware/adware and it is clean. I have downloaded Windows/Microsoft updates. From reading the other posts and having the problem that I am having, I am totally frustrated. I can't even use the iPod like this. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm running Windows XP with Service Pack 2. Thank you for any help you can give me.

  • Can I get tunes to import on my Wallstreet?

I updated my Wallstreet (300MHZ, 192 MB ram, 8GB HD) to 9.1 and installed iTunes 1.01 (or something like that). I got it online by the built-in modem and after a few problems, got the CDDB to give me the track names of the Santana CD I had in there. Unfortunately, no matter what I do, the Import button is grayed out. If I choose the library, the Browse is OK, but that does me no good since there's nothing in there. I thought maybe it was because I was on battery power, but it's the same when it's plugged in.
I expect to upgrade the iTunes to 2 eventually, but in the meantime, any suggestions as to what causes this or can cure it?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Updated to iTunes 2.0.2. Still didn't work.
Have another Wallstreet with exactly the same specifications except a 12 GB HD which I ended up having to initialize and install OS from scratch. I also installed the 9.1 with a USB PC card inserted which, as I hoped, resulted in getting all the USB extensions I wanted. Then I installed iTunes 1.0.1 and then 2.0.2. I tried an audio CD, (Santana's Greatest Hits) and the import button was NOT GRAYED OUT!
So, I threw out everything I could find on the first Wallstreet that said iTunes. Reinstalled. Still didn't work. Tried reinstalling 9.1. Didn't help. But I did take time to write down the error message it keeps giving me when it has set up iTunes:
    "Warning!
The following issue(s) have been detected which may affect your use of this program:
Your computer's internal hard drive might not be able to read digital data extracted from internal audio CDs. Digital audio playback has been turned off to avoid this problem."
Of course, the MP3s I have copied onto the HD work fine with iTunes, and iTunes will also play an audio CD just fine.
    Now I'm really baffled.

  • Can't get LR3 to import photos from one external hard drive to another?

I'm wanting to move thousands of raw photos from a folder in one external hard drive to another folder in a different external hard drive so all my photos are in one photo folder instead of two.  I've gone through the importing routine inside of lightroom to move the folder over to the new hard drive.  However, the photos don't move because they still show up on the old hard drive and not the new one.  What's weird is when I try to import it again, the grid view shows all the photos I'm wanting to import and when I move my cursor over any of the photos they are faded out and it says the photos are already imported.  However, if this is true why aren't they showing up in the new folder on my new external hard drive?  I know the new external hard drive works fine because I've successfully been putting all my newer photos there since I started using LR about one year ago.  The one's I'm trying to move over are older photos I shot try to using LR.
I'm stumped and need some help.  Thanks in advance.

    You wrote
"Are you saying while I'm in LR just grab the folder I want to move and drop it into the new hard drive"
Yes, that's the way to move photos & folders from within LR.
LR will then update its catalog with the new location and everything should be fine.
Importing is not a good way for moving photos / folders. Since the photos are already in the catalog you had to uncheck <Don't import suspected duplicates> or all the photos will be greyed-out in the import dialog. If you did that LR would import the photos from drive A and put it on drive B. But they would still be on drive A, so you'd have the photos on both drives and would have to delete them on drive A.
But more important: By default LR saves all edits in the catalog, they are not saved with the images themselves. That means by doing an import instead of a drag-and-drop move you'd lose your edits.
You can save your edits to xmp, a side-car file that is stored together with the image file, and the xmps would be imported. But LR does not store everything as xmp. For instance Virtual Copies, Collections, Stacking are saved only in the catalog, so by doing an import you'd lose these things.
Unless you know LR very well, it's best to use the Import Feature only for images that are NOT yet in LR.
And another thing: Before doing major operations like moving big amounts of photos, it's best to backup your catalog first.

  • I just bought a new computer and can't get it to import my music?

I just got a new computer and want to get all the music, applications, contacts, and everything else synced with my iTunes. How do i do it? I have all the stuff on my old computer, but I don't want to risk losing the stuff on my phone. Help please!

Transfer your iTunes folder (which contains your entire iTunes library) from your old PC to your new PC. On Windows, your iTunes folder is in the “My Music” folder. Place it in the same location on your new PC and quit iTunes before making the transfer. You will also need to authorize your new computer with iTunes with your iTunes account.
Syncing contact information and calendar events is done by iTunes with the supported application on your computer, but is not stored by iTunes.
You can sync contact info and calendar events with Outlook 2003 or 2007, or contact info with the Address Book used by Outlook Express with XP, or with the Address Book used by Windows Mail with Vista - the name change for Outlook Express with Vista.
Before syncing contact info with the supported application on your new computer, enter one contact in the address book on your computer. Make one up if needed. If you are syncing with Outlook 2003 or 2007, do the same with a calendar event.
This will provide a merge prompt when syncing this data, which you want to select.
Any photos transferred from your old computer to your iPhone need to be transferred from your old computer to your new computer.

  • Can't get dvd to import into imovie?  Any suggestions?

I have my sister's wedding that a friend took for me on his camcorder, and burned to a dvd for me. But when I put the dvd in I am unable to save or anything and when I go to imovie and try to import it the best I get is files unrecognizable, but I'm not even sure I'm picking the right files. . .video is in NTSC. Any suggestions? Thanks!

DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and made for any processing as editing... so, any conversion process will add a (dramatic) loss in picture quality.
for usage in iLife, you have to convert'em first, in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
    VisualHub (23.32$)
Drop2DV (free, requires installation of ffmpeg parts, google for it...)
Toast 6/7/8/9 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter
    old apps:
    Cinematize >60$
    Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in

  • Can't get home videos imported into iTunes?

iTunes will let me import videos but then they are not there? And ideas on how to help? Thanks

The music sync is ONE WAY - computer to ipod. The only exception is itunes purchases. You can transfer itunes purchases only: Without syncing - File>Transfer Purchases
The ipod will sync with ONE computer only. When you sync to another, it will indeed erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.
You should move everything from the old computer, or your backup copy of the old computer, to your new one.
The ipod touch is not a storage device or backup device. It is intended to mirror the selected content of your computer.

  • Can't get Firefox to import bookmarks

Installed a new drive, have tried/followed all the tutorials (correctly I'd like to think), using the export function I have copied both .json and .html files to other drives, but when importing I don't get my bookmarks, just the stock/basic/pre-set folders. These show up as duplicates in the bookmarks menu.
My thinking is that the export side isn't pulling/copying the bookmarks so that when I import, all I get is the default bookmarks.
So what am I doing wrong Oh Great and Mighty purveyors of Firefox wisdom?

The bookmarkbackup-~.json file that are backed up need to be '''restored''', not imported. The bookmarks.html files are to be imported.
    JSON = backup and restore
    HTML = export and import
What is the file size of each of the files that you have?
Is the old hard drive still available?
Depending upon why you replaced the old drive, it may be possible to recover your entire Firefox Profile from the old drive and '''''recover''''' the entire Profile folder. ''That would involve a USB adapter for the old drive, that you could connect to your PC for file recovery purposes.''

  • I need help with a plugin. I can't get the quciktime import plugin. Has anyone noticed this.

I have noticed that the whole abilities to import quicktime plugin. After effects says its gone. I can't find any downloads. I am still on free trial. But why would I buy something in a store that isn't full. Tech support says they won't help. Who knows what to do.

Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details. Start by reinstalling the program and Quicktime. Otherwise the relevant stuff could simply be blocked by a firewall/ virus scanner or whatever and you need to make it behave...

  • Can't get consistent sound importing to iMovie

    Hello -
I am having trouble when importing home movies from a JVC MiniDV Video Camera to iMovie. The video shows up fine, but the audio is either very choppy or completely silent. I see the audio track, can extract it, but it is nothing like the clear audio that comes from my camera. Any ideas??
    Thanks in advance,
    Jim

    Hi Jim
See if my list is of any help:
    Capture/Import problems:
    a) File-Vault is on - turn it off
    b) don’t Daisy chain camcorder - external hard disk - Mac
    c) Slow hard disk (fragmented: repair permissions, repair hard disk, use a faster hard disk)
    d) Something is occupying the CPU/System, like other programs, Internet etc.
    e) Bad RAM-chips
    f) drop outs on the miniDV-tape - make a camera to camera copy on a tape which You have previous recorded with a time code (dummy recording).
    g) FW-wire cable OK?
    h) Break in the time-code on the miniDV tape (make a camera to camera copy on a tape which is prerecorded with nothing/anything so that the tape has a time-code from beginning to the end)
    i) defective camera TRY IT ON ANOTHER MAC !
    j) remove bookmarks in iMovie project
    k) Do You have desktop pictures or screen-savers active? Try turning them off.
    l) Updating - OS has to be a clean install - not an update eg from X.3.x to X.4.x (no good)
OS X.4.0-3 needs a clean install to work (I use X.3.9)
    m) Updating QT and/or other updates (to 7 needs v6 to be cleaned out first)
QT v.7 needs a clean install to work (I use 6.5.2)
    n)
Have you tried the crazy fix:
Open GarageBand, play a few notes, close it and reopen iMovie. The camera should import fine now.
    Sue/SDillini
    o) Trash: com.apple.iMovie.plist and com.apple.iMovie3.plist : files (Xinram)
FILEVAULT is a way/program to protect files from prying eye - but it slows
