Can't get AE Utility to find my AE

Forgot the password on my AE. Reset it with a paperclip and hooked it up. Both my iPad and laptop can see the AE but when I run AE Utility on my Windows laptop, it says it can't detect it. Any ideas?

Try downloading the "Airport Utility" for you iPad from the App Store...
It is a free download...

See if you can see your Airport base station using the Airport Utility on your iPad.

  • Can't get disk utility to work with leopard - iBook running super slow

I have an iBook G4 and it's running ssuuppeerr slow but I can't get disk utility to come up after I press C down. I don't know if I'm pressing it at the wrong time but I restart with the C pressed and it gets to the apple screen and it won't go anywhere else. It will restart normally but not with the C key. I've been trying for an hour and I can't get it to get to disk utility!
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Do you want Disk Utility on your iBook or do you want Disk Utility on your install disc?
For Disk Utility on your iBook, go to Finder>Applications>Utilities and look in the Utilities folder. You will find Disk Utility there, and drag it to your dock where it will be handy to have it.
For Disk Utility on your install disc, insert the install disc and then restart and hold down "C" as you boot up so that you will boot from the install disc. Then choose your language, and then look for Disk Utility in the menu bar--I don't remember if it says "Utilities" or "Disk Utility". If you need to repair your startup disk (i.e. your internal hard drive), you would boot up from the install disc to do this.
However, I am wondering if you have enough RAM to run Leopard. You will get a big boost in performance if you max out your RAM. Leopard will run best if you can put a 1 GB RAM stick in your RAM slot.
If you want to repair permissions after installing and updating Leopard, you can do this with Disk Utility on your iBook. Repair permissions until there is nothing left to repair.
If you have more questions, please post back. Also, which ibook G4 do you have?
    Good luck!

  • I can't get my iPad to find my Apple TV. Where do I find the rectangle with the triangle in it to turn on the tv link. I have no problem doing this from my macbookpro.

I can't get my ipad4 to find my Apple TV box, I where do I find the little rectangle box with a triangle in it that I click on my MacBook Pro to turn on the appletv?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

The only way you will be able to track that iPod is if it is turned on and connected to a wifi network by the person that has it.

  • I can't get my iPad to find my iPod touch via bluetooth... Help!!!

I can't get my iPad to find my iPod touch via bluetooth, tried shutting off wifi on both and reseting. iPod 2 days old, 4 th gen white, iPad 2 = 2 months old

This is happening to many people.
For me, it's the Key Note Remote app that won't connect with my iPad2 from my iPhone4 after update to iOS5.
Apparently this does not affect the new iPhone 4S.
But that's not a solution unless you are planning on upgrading.
I'm still waiting for a response from Apple but I'd advise you to go to whichever app isn't connecting with Bluetooth and hit the "REPORT A PROBLEM" button in iTunes app page for said app.
This will go directly to the devs and should ellicite a faster response.
    Hope this gets fixed soon.
    Warm regards.

  • Stuck in Darwin / Can't get into OS X Finder

First I want to say I have searched the Forums and I have found others with similiar problems and I have tried all the fixes that have been suggested to them. Unfortunately I still have my problem.
    Problem:
When the computer starts up, it goes to a Darwin screen asking for a login. I can log in, the username and password are correct but then I have no idea what do from there. I am trying to get back in the Finder.
    Solutions I have tried:
    1. I have tried Michael Conniff's fix with the Single User Mode, and I got the Setup Assistant, went thru the directions had absolutely no problems. Walk in the park. However when I rebooted the computer I went back into Darwin. sigh
    2. I have also reset the NVRAM.
    3. Used a program called Disk Warrior to repair all permissions and files.
I am not sure what else I can do. I am trying not to do an Archive and Install. If that is what I have to do, then so be it, but again I would prefer not to. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

If nothing else has succeeded, then an Archive and Install is your only alternative:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • How can i get coloured icons in finder sidebar?

Is there a way to get coloured icons in finder sidebar?
The greyscale icons are not really userfriendly ...
    Thx,
    Chriz

Finder, like the rest of Lion, has been visited by the color vampire
Apple says that its goal with the Lion user interface was to highlight content by de-emphasizing the surrounding user interface elements. You can see this most clearly in sidebar and toolbar icons, which are now monochromatic in most of the important bundled applications. But this has the unfortunate side effect of making interface elements less distinguishable from each other, especially at the small sizes typical in sidebars. I'm not sure the "increased emphasis on content" is enough to balance out the loss, especially in applications like the Finder.

  • PG G4 struggling, can't get disk utility to start....

Any time i start itunes, or system preferences my computer just gives me the spinning beach ball for quite a time. Sometimes the app will launch, other times it won't. When i try to force quite applications, half the time it won't shut the app down..
with that said, i'm trying to get disk utility to go and see if there are any issues there, but it won't launch.
Would starting in 'safe mode' work in this task? How would a start my computer in 'safe mode'...
    anyother suggestions are appreciated

You can start in safe mode by rebooting and holding the shift key down.
There are several possibilities. As already mentioned, your hard drive could be dying. However, first I would want to know how much free disk space you have. You want 10%-15% free space available for the operating system.
Running the Apple hardware test would be a good diagnostic. Insert the original OS X disk that says 'AHT Version x.x' in small print on the label. Reboot holding the option key down, choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted choose the extended test. Does that tell you anything?
To boot from the first OS X disk, hold the C key while rebooting. Then you can run Disk Utility and repair the disk and repair permissions, while you're at it.
The beach ball can occur for a number of reasons. If your hard drive checks out OK during the Apple hardware test, and you have enough free space, you might want to run OnyX, which is available from http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english/apps.html. Run the cleaning and maintenance tasks, and see if you still have issues.

  • Can't get back to the finder - driving me crazy

I'm using Safari. I close the Safari window and click on the desktop to get the Finder - I'm still in Safari.
I try to access the Finder by clicking on the Finder icon in the dock - no good, still in Safari.
I use Command-Tab to select the Finder - no good, still in Safari.
This happens often with Preview and Mail as well. After rummaging around awhile I can get back to the Finder, but this is a very big annoyance. And it seems to be getting worse.
Is this a known problem / bug in Leopard? Anyone else experiencing it? Any fix?

    Donnie,
Did you attempt to reboot your Mini?
    Did you repair permissions?
Did you try those applications in another account?
Did you try to refresh the finder plist file? If not, you may want to refresh the Finder plist file by dragging the com.apple.finder.plist file which is located in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Preferences folder to the Desktop. Then log out/in or restart and reset your settings in Finder>Preferences...>General.

  • Can't get "following requests" in Find My Friend

    Hi Guys,
Could sb. help me to solve this silly problem? Please!
I have friends to follow me and it works well, but my new requests are lost in the air...  never arrive. So my new friends can't follow me. Since a month I can't get requests.
I restarted everything, the iPhone, the FMF application, deleted and re-downloaded, signed out and in again, switch off and on hiding, sent requests those who wanted to follow me, checked my mail address... etc.
I can follow every new friends. My requests arrive immediately, so this part works perfect.
I can't imagine why do this and how can I repair...
I hope you can help me!
    Many THX in advance!! :)

  • My iPhoto library was erased, can I get it back or find out when it was erased?

We have been away for abou six weeks and found that my iPhoto library is now empty. There were thousands of photos. The library file is still in the same space but it is empty. The last time machine backup was in August, which would have been fine, but the external HDD has failed and we can not recover the backups.
Assuming there is little to no chance of resurrecting the actual library, is there a way someone can look into the OS and find out when the library went from GB in size to kb? If I can pinpoint the date it may have happened it will be easier to narrow down as something we have done or the people who were looking after our house while we were away.

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Can you get Photo Stream on Finder?

I want to stop using iPhoto.. and was wondering if there was a simple way to get Photo Stream on Finder in the picture folder or just as a seperate Main Folder altogether?
I want it to automatically update such as iphoto does when I take a picture using my ipad or iphone.. any ideas? Is this possible?

No. You need iPhoto to  view Photo Streams on your Mac.  If you create a shared photo stream with your iPhone you could access it online with Safari but not the Finder.
