Can't get Airdrop to work between my iPhone 6+ and my Mac?

Hello,
One of the most exciting features of Yosemite to me was the ability to Airdrop between my Mac and my iPhone, I've been wanting to do this since the introduction of Airdrop.
Both devices have Bluetooth enabled, when I try pairing the devices together the Mac says 'connected', then immediately says 'disconnected' then I get a message saying: "Network Access is Unavailable"
I've got all options that should be on, on. Anyone dealing with anything similar?
This is an 'older' Mac (early 2011, the last 17") Could that be the trouble?

Also, attempting to use Airplay with iOS7 shuts off sound to the speakers while allowing sound thru the ear buds! The fix was to restart by depressing the lock switch (opposite the sound out port).

You need a minimum of three things for AirPlay:
An iTunes host. This can be a Mac, PC, or iOS device.
A wired or wireless network.
An AirPlay Speaker. This can be an AirPort Express, Apple TV, or a AirPlay-Ready device.

I'd like to be able to sometimes use the headset with my Mac and other times use it with my iPhone. Is this possible? How hard is it to set up and is it annoying to switch over from one to the other.

Below that line there is an Apple ID which is the primary email address being used by the iPad. You can make changes there to change the email address.

Airdrop not working between MacBook Air 2012 and iMac2014 in Yosemite

I can transfer files using Finder / Shared section, so the two computers are connected. But the AirDrop application doesn't recognize either my iMac (2014) on my MacBook Air (2012), or vice versa. I am running Yosemite. I also have a MacMini (2010) that doesn't show up anywhere as well.
I also have an older iPhone4 (2010) that doesn't run Yosemite. If I buy the new iPhone6, I would like to use AirDrop to transfer files between my phone and 2 computers as well.
What's up?

I can't get airdrop to work

My colleague and I both have iPhone 5S phones running iOS 7.0.4. We have been trying to get AirDrop to wok and have gotten it to work once. We tap on the AirDrop icon and we can't see each others phones, either selecting Everyone or Contacts.
Thoughts?

Best advice I can give u is simply text/mms what ever it is your trying to get to your friends iphone. To be honest airdrop is a very unnecessary thing that Apple placed in their updates. The fact it only allows u to send pics/videos/contacts that *****. We've been doing that via text for a long time. In short don't hustle over it cause its a waist of time. It was doing me the same thing then it started working after a while but to find out after that it's no big deal, my friend your not missing anything.

I'm in the process of buying a broadcom card off ebay and will attempt to install as soon as it arrives. An install video is available on youtube: Core Duo 15in MacBook Pro Airport Card Replacement
(There's an old illustrated article here on that card swap/upgrade from Feb. 2007. Of course Lion doesn't support Core Duo CPUs.)
