Can't get Apple USB modem to work in Boot Camp

I've been struggling to get an Internet connection under boot camp/Windows XP for several days. Have an Apple USB modem and installed all the Apple drivers. Apple tech support says they can't help me with Windows (cop out). Both Microsoft and my ISP tech support team have both been great and have spent hours trying to help me. Their final conclusion is that the modem is working fine, but the underlying flaw is the inability of an Apple system to run Windows. In desperation, I've ordered a US Robotics USB modem from the Mac/PC Connection that is both OS X and Windows XP compatible. It is on backorder for 2 weeks
Any help you can give me in the meantime would be greatly appreciated! Glad I kept my old Dell!

"I am confused, QuickDraw. If the poster cannot get online via Windows XP, how does he or she get the drivers?"
I was speaking of the Boot Camp drivers that comes on the Leopard Disc. This could possibly be the answer to your troubles as well if you haven't already installed them yourself. After you've successfully installed Windows via Boot Camp, you need to boot up into Windows, then stick in your Leopard Disc and the drivers are supposed to install automatically. If after you've installed the BC drivers you still cannot get online via your router, then post back.
Hope this helps.
By the way, you really need to start your own thread. That way you'll have a better chance of being assisted from others. Just a suggestion.

  • Can't get my pci modem to work in the ms - 6215

does anyone know how to get my pci modem to work in a ms - 6215, I've tried everything that I can think of including installing a modem  known to be good, since the motherboard is very unique in so that it has a riser that only has two pci slots on it and I've tried both of them, the os is windows me and when I first booted up all it found was an unknown pci card so I told it it was the modem and when I went to the modems in the control panel it tells me that it couldn't open the port even though the irq and com port info is the same in windows as to the post screen, the type of modem is a pctell 56k, and the guy who brought me this thing told me he didn't have the driver cd that came with it but since I have a external modem that worked with it I was able to update all of the motherboard drivers...
    thanks

  • Can you prove Apple USB Modem supports Voice calls?

I'm developing an app using the Apple USB Modem and I haven't been able to find a single application that supports its claimed voice capabilities. Doesn any have a voice file known to be compatible with this modem? All my attempts have resulted in very distorted screeching playback. I came across one other similar experience/opinion on this modem.

  • Can't get Apple Remote Desktop to work

I cannot get apple remote desktop to recognize my lab computers.  It only recognizes one in there and all the info is the same on the others.  It sees them but it says they are offline when I have them all on and ready.  I did an update to make sure they were up to speed. I am running ARD 3.5.2 on mine and 3.5.2 on the snow leopard macs and there are some just leopard macs in there running 3.4.
    Thank you in advance.

Sorry, but no, ARD does not have a "remote printing" feature. You can use ARD to copy a file to a remote Mac and than take control of that Mac to print the document, but you cannot print directly to the remote Mac (unless someone else here knows a trick I've not discovered).
Depending on how your wife's company has things set up in their connection to the Internet, she may be able to just set up printer sharing on the work computer and print directly without needing ARD at all. A utility such as Slink may make that easier:

I use Slink and it works quite well.

  • I can't get Apple TV mirroring to work from any of my iOS devices (Ipad2, iPhone 5 and iPad air).

I can't get mirroring to work from any of my iOS devices (Ipad2, iPhone 5 and iPad air). I click on airplay, and select mirroring, but nothing appears on the tv screen and the connection with the Apple TV drops off after 5 seconds. Any ideas why

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
        1.    Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
        2.    Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
        3.    Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
        4.    Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
        5.    Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
        6.    Restart your mobile device.

  • Can I get Apple's Backup to work without MobileMe?

I've moved to a "new" (well, to me) Early 2008 MacBook Pro with 10.6.8. With my old iMac G4, I used Apple's Backup program. I have their version for Leopard and installed it. It won't work, though. It gives an "exceeds trial limit" warning because it can't confirm that I have a valid MobileMe subscription. I'm NOT using the backup to iDisk, just to an external HD. I paid for MobileMe (well, .Mac) for years and had no problem with backing up with the iMac on 10.3.9. Does anyone know of a way around this?

Here's are some additional thoughts on the subject.
Would you need to get yet another external hard drive?  Maybe. Lets examine what you do have.
Your "working drive" is the OWC... okay. I assume you use this for your every day photo work, editing, printing, etc. You have copies of all your photos on the LaCie drive, and backup this OWC drive to where?
Your "pristine drive" is the LaCie... I think this is a key drive for you. You definitely want to backup the LaCie... eventually it WILL fail (they all do) and you don't want to be in that situation without a backup. I would consider buying "yet another" hard drive for this drive alone, and keeping it tucked away somewhere safe, off site. That will mean that once a week or so you bring it home and update the backup, but your data won't be lost should some unspeakable catastrophe strike your workspace.
2TB USB "spare drive"... used for what?  If you use this as backup for the OWC or for your daily User folder, or both, that's fine. I'd stick with that. To play it safe if you decide to use Time Machine, I would not recommend partitioning this drive and using any part of it to backup the LaCie. Mostly because it doesn't have the capacity. The rule of thumb for that being, as I understand it, 2x to 2.5x the capacity of the drive to be backed up. It should be fine the way you use it now, though.
So, would I recommend buying yet another hard drive for your situation? The answer is Yes. If for no other reason than to ensure you have a safe copy of the data on your pristine drive... the one you REALLY do not wish to lose to failure.
    Helpful?  I hope so.

  • How can I get a USB-8473 to work at 125kbps?

    All,
I am using an NI USB-8473 high speed CAN card.  I've plugged in into a known-good CAN port in a network that works fine at 500kbps with other CAN devices.
When I run the 8473 at 125Kbps, it works fine.  When I run it faster than that, it does not work.  It does not read CAN data, although the CAN LED does flash before an error (3FF6206B or other) is generated.  When I try to write to the bus at speeds above 125K, the device appears to attempt to write once, then stop functioning.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Although the network works with another interface at 500kbps, please check if your cabling meets the requirements for High-Speed CAN (page 4-4 of the NI-CAN Hardware and Software Manual).
Do you use proper cable termination as mentionned at page 4-5 of above linked document ?
Has the "know-good CAN port" an onboard 120 ohm termination resistor ?

  • Can't get any USB mouse to work!!!!!

I have a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. Everything was fine with my Microsoft USB mouse until 2 days ago when it stopped responding. I put it down to my son having dropped it and bought a Logitech M505 USB mouse today. This is not recognized either and won't work. I've tried plugging the unifying device into both USB ports but it simply won't work and I'm told there is no Logitech device plugged in. Can anyone help me? Please!?!

I used my USB scanner last night and that worked fine and also when I plug in the receiver for the Microsoft mouse the light comes on so I figure everything is ok with the actual USB port? In system profiler/USB I can't see anything that would indicate a problem. Where would I have to look exactly? Is there some kind of test I can run to see if there is a problem?

  • Can't get Apple Hardware Test to work

So I'm trying to run the Apple Hardware Test. I start the computer up and hold "D". It boots into OS X like a normal startup. So, I plug in the Ethernet and hold option-D to do the AHT from the Internet. It tells me "Apple Hardware Test does not support this machine".
So, I try to install the "iMac EFI Update 1.8" from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1493 (which is for my iMac model, which is a iMac (Mid 2010)), but it says "This software is not supported on your system." I also tried the later version, v1.9, from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1498 but it isn't for my iMac and so I get the same error.
So now I'm stuck. What should I do now?

Thanks that was it. It says AHT on the disk itself. I successfully ran it, and it found no problems ("No trouble found.") I ran the basic test only because I have 16 GB RAM, and so I imagine it would take a long time to run the extended—probably at least two hours? And I don't know what more that would find that the basic wouldn't?

  • Problem with Apple USB Modem Caller ID functionality

Can't find a more suitable area to post this, so here goes... Caller ID detection using my Apple USB Modem rarely works. I've tried several different pieces of software, including looking directly at the modem's output with ZTerm, and it's apparent that the modem is not picking up the inbound caller ID information properly most times. It occasionally reports the proper data (time, date, number, name) but more often that not, it reports RING, and then ERRM=ICLID_202. My cordless phone reports inbound CID information flawlessly using the same phone jack and cable, so I'm confident the service is working properly on the phone side.
The modem's response to an ID request (ATI1) is *Apple Version 1.5.9*.
Do I have a bad modem, need a firmware upgrade, or what? Does anyone else have similar problems? Far as I can tell, the rest of the modem functionality (outbound faxing, etc.) works fine. Thanks for any help anyone can offer!

I tried posting earlier, sorry if both show up.
I am having the same problem with the Apple USB Modem and Caller-ID functionality. I am using the modem in conjunction with Parliant's Phone Valet Home Edition, and Caller-ID fails about 15-20% of the time. Along with missing Caller-ID information, the system also doesn't pick up the line on the usual 4 rings, it takes 8 rings before it answers on those same calls. I've talked with Parliant's tech support, and in the end they basically said that there is nothing that they can do if the modem doesn't pass the caller-id information to the program. They also suggested that maybe there was a "low-voltage" issue on the line that may be causing the system to miss caller-id and take longer to pick up, even though caller-id works on every other phone and caller-id display in the house, including one hooked up to the same jack as the Apple Modem. I then called AT&T to check the line - they stopped out and ran tests and said everything was fine on the phone line side. So there seems to be a combination issue going on here - the modem doesn't register caller-id, and also doesn't seem to realize that the phone is actually even ringing until several rings in. This could be part of the problem: If the modem doesn't "see" the phone ringing on the first ring it probably just isn't even looking for caller-id info when it is being passed before the second ring.
Just wanted to add my experience, and would appreciate any ideas - I have a rather expensive answering machine that only works about 80% of the time.
    Thank you, and take care!
    Jeff

  • Apple USB Modem Not Supported in Snow Leopard Running 64-bit Kernel Mode

Has anyone been able to get the Apple USB Modem to work with Snow Leopard (SL) when running SL in 64-bit kernel mode? I get an error saying hardware not supported.

I would suggest you take this question up in the MacBook Pro forum or perhaps the Snow Leopard forum. This forum is for question about older, Pre-G3 Apple hardware and so not the forum where you'll be most likely to get a quick and applicable response.
    Regards.

  • Apple usb modem & Airport Extreme

Does the external Apple usb modem work with the AirPort Extreme (802.11n)? Has anyone tried this?
I use dial-up internet service and was wondering if the AirPort Extreme can use an Apple usb modem to connect to the internet. Thanks.

The USB port on the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) is only for connecting USB hard/flash drives, printers, or hubs. The USB modem will not work.

  • Does The Apple USB Modem Work With The Mac mini ??????

Just wanted to know if anyone has successfully used the new Apple USB Modem with the Mac mini, is it compatable ????
Thank you for your input on this.
    Mike D.

It says it works with the Mac mini, but does it really? I just received my modem yesterday and could not get it to work with my 1.42 mini - the more expensive one that comes without a dialup modem! I looked carefully at the specs and it appears the Apple USB modem requires Mac OS 10.4.3, not the 10.4.2 that comes with the Mac mini.
Talk about stupid! And the mini docs say it comes with the "latest" version of Tiger. Not! So I can download the upgrade, I guess. IF I could get on the internet! This is extremely annoying. I guess I'll have to download the upgrade on another computer and transfer it somehow. Boy, those Apple guys sure are tech geniuses, aren't they???
