Can't get back to Mac OS X after windows 7 install

I have a Macbook (aluminum one, not a pro)with leopard OS X and have gone through the process of creating a 60gig partition and installing windows 7 32bit ultimate edition on it using boot camp. After the installation process and several restarts, it seems windows 7 works great... The problem is I have no idea how to get back to OS X.
When I restart the computer it gives a gray screen for a moment then a black screen with a white blinking cursor, it flashes to the typical windows OS selection screen for about 1.5 seconds then boots up in windows 7. I have spammed the up arrow key to make sure that I am able to interact with the DOS OS selection screen and windows 7 is the only one shown.
I am completely lost as to what to do about this. My Leopard OS disc is long gone, I have an .iso of it saved on my Mac partition but I don't know how to access that either.
If anybody could help me out I would be ever grateful. Thanks in advance.

Windows 7 has a hidden task bar at the bottom of the screen. It really isn't apparent especially if you have not used Win 7. This is not the power looking icon in the lower left, move the cursor to the lower right side and the task bar should appear.
Then, as with other windows versions, there should be a shortcut that allow you to access Bootcamp. Once in the bootcamp window you can select to reboot back to the Mac OS.

  • Window 7 has taken over my IMac and I can't get back to Mac OS

I have been running window 7 with bootcamp for about a month. Until recently, I could click the bootcamp icon in the windows systray and restart in Mac OS. Well, this week, I could no longer see the Bootcamp icon in the systray. Right clicking on the systray would bring up a window with options for various "hidden icons" one of which was the Bootcamp icon. I changed the status from "show only messages" to "always show" but still couldn't see the icon. So I clicked on the option to "show all icons on taskbar" and still can't see the bootcamp icon and now can't get back to the "options menu" ;(
I've tried rebooting while holding down the alt key....restarts in windows both with restart and shut down and then restart
I've tried entering the command at the command line as suggested in an apple help doc,(it's a long command and I don't have it handy but I copied it from the web page) but that just gives a "command not recognized" error.
What happened to my BootCamp!? and how can I get to the Mac OS?
    TIA

Check your control panels which is where that shortcut goes anyway.
Holding x on startup should also boot into Mac OS.
Boot from OS X DVD and go to Utility menu => Disk Utility, and repair your Mac partition.
You may want to do some maintenance on Windows as well.

  • I can't get back into Mac OS X; it just loads eternally.

I've been running BootCamp on my MacBook Pro perfectly for months now but today I just can't seem to get back into the Mac partition (OS X 10.6.8). I was playing a game on my Windows (Vista) partition for several hours then restarted the computer. As the start up drive is set to Mac, it started to attempt to load it. It was just stuck at the grey screen with the Apple in the middle and the endless rotating circle. Then as I waited longer the Apple turned into a "no access" symbol (the circle with a line across it) and the rotating circle just kept going and going. I waited several minutes but no luck.
So I held down the power button and this time instead of letting it auto boot Mac I held down Option and chose Mac drive myself (it was an option therefore the computer does recognize that the Mac partition is there). Same result. I rebooted into Windows (which it is still able to do with no problems at all) then went to the BootCamp assistant and pressed "Restart into Mac OS X". Same result.
I've googled it and no one seems to have had this problem. Any insight at all would be great. Thanks.

Or.... even hold down the X key while starting up.

  • Can't get back to Mac OS !!

I just bought a used Mac Mini (early 2009). The guy made a clean install of OS X with the restore DVD... but forgot to give me the OS X restore DVD (I just have the APPLICATIONS restore DVD).
I was under the impression that the APPLICATIONS restore DVD was actually the OS X one. I went ahead with the installation of Windows XP according to the boot camp instruction manual. When it came time to install the WINDOWS DRIVERS from the OS X DVD after a Windows XP reboot, there were of course no Windows drivers on the Applications DVD, so now I'm stuck with my Mini in Windows XP.
    Two questions:
1- Without the Windows Boot Camp drivers, how to I get back to my Mac ... being a Mac (boot OS X) ??
2- If, for some reason, I can't get a hold of the seller or he tells me he doesn't have the original OS X restore DVD... can I get one from Apple ?? At what cost ??
    Thanks.
    Marc P.

I found the aswer to my questions...
Hold down the option key, while booting up to select the OS.
The seller found his original Restore DVDs.
    Thanks.

  • HT1533 How can I switch back to Mac OS X from Windows 7 Bootcamp?

I'm having problem switching back to Mac OS on my Macbook Air.  It's currently running Windows 7 bootcamp without a Mac OS installed with it.  I tried booting up on Mac OSX installer disc (Snow Leopard) on the external CDROM drive but it boots to Windows instead.  I tried the Boot Camp Control Panel on Windows and Restart to Mac OS X but it could not find an OS X intalled and I tried changing the startup disc to the installation disc on the CDROM and restarted but still goes to Windows.
    Please HELP!
    Thank you.

The MBA did not ship with an OS on DVD because they don't have an optical drive. There are two kinds of OS disks - commercial release, which for Snow Leopard is 10.6.3 I believe, and machine specific. If your SL disk is gray it isn't going to boot your MBA because it isn't made for the MBA. If your SL disk has a cat on it look at what specific version it is. As I said, I think it is 10.6.3 and while I wasn't able to find out what specific OS version your MBA shipped with, I'm pretty sure it was a version later than 10.6.3 and if I'm right your disk isn't going to boot the computer. You'll need to either contact Apple for a valid replacement installer or find someone with a Mac who can make a valid installer on a USB drive or DVD.

  • How can I get Back all of my data after restoring and back up ? I lost my data and I did back up

when I did restore and update .. I lost all of my data , then I pressed to back up buttom , when I try to restore data , its disapper . is there anyway to get back all data lost ?

If you are backing up to your computer, check iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices, if there are nay other backups listed.
Since each backup replaces the old one if not used to restore from, your data might be lost since you seem to have backed up a phone without any personal data.
Check this article about how to restore from backups:

  • Can't reinstall OS X (10.5.2) after Windows XP install failed

My son tried to install Windows XP into a 50GB partition on a 13" black MacBook (2.4GHz, 250GB HD). The installation failed and now the MacBook wont boot. It gives a message "No bootable device insert....". The extended hardware test on the MacOS X Install disc 1 says that there are no hardware problems. When we boot up using the MacOS X Install disc 1 the screen on the "Select a Destination" page is blank. I have tried the suggestion I found in a Google search of going into Disk Utility and simply waiting for 30 minutes but it didn't work. Similarly the suggestion of going into Terminal and typing in some code didn't work either. First Aid in Disk Utility cant do anything because the boxes such as "Repair Disk" are greyed out. Disk Utility shows a 232.9GB Fujitsu HD with SMART status verified and an icon for disk0 that is NTFS. Overall, does this mean that the failed installation has wiped OS X from the hard drive (and reformatted it for Windows)? I don't understand why I cant use the MacOS X install disc to do a reinstall. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi
Your son selected the internal partition when he was presented with the choice of formatting NTFS the boot camp partition from the XP Installer Disk. Basically he's wiped the whole of the drive. Unless you had a backup everything has been deleted with not much chance of recovery.
Boot from the installer disk, and launch Disk Utility from the Utilities Menu. You should see the primary partition of the internal drive, select it and the select Partition from the tab selections on the right hand side. Select Custom, select One Partition and click apply. You will be warned that doing so will erase everything. Seeing as you've lost everything anyway you have nothing left to lose. The format type should be Macintosh OSX Extended. It does not matter if you choose Journaled or not. Click apply. Quit out of Disk Utility and the drive should now present itself as a valid destination drive to install Leopard. Proceed from there normally. Once you have everything back up and running. Go for XP Install again but this time watch what your son is doing and make sure he selects the correct partition for installation and formatting.

  • Can't get back into Mac OSX    10.4.11 after having to hard boot the system

Greetings. I have a rather quirky iMac PPC G5 with now 2G of Ram and a 2.0 chip. This issue has happened several times, the most recent was today. If the computer locks up or has a kernel panic and I have to just turn it off and then back again...I get a grey screen for a long time with the arrows in a circle, then the fans go high speed and that's it. It doesn't boot into MacOS. I am using 10.4.11 and have an ATI Radeon card. I always have to use Disk Warrior (bless them) to rebuild the drive. Sometimes nothing has changed, other times it will say a startup value has changed. Why would this happen? I suppose I could reboot from the MacOS disk, because the process can take over 2 hours using Disk Warrior. Any ideas on the cause and the cure would be most appreciated. Many thanks. Debbie

When a computer isn't shut down properly the file system can be left in an unstable state. It is very common to be left in a situation where corruption of the directories etc occurs in such cases. Files aren't properly "closed", directory extents may be incorrect, etc. This matters much more with "modern" operating systems like OSX than it did, for example, with early versions of Windows etc.
That is the reason that I was wondering what was causing your kernel panics, forced shutdowns etc. After such events one should really ALWAYS rebuild the directories anyway, even if it WILL restart. Not doing so can lead to corruption that doesn't become evident until further down the track, causing things like freezes and panics of the type you experience.
If you experience such things regularly you should really try to track down the cause of the "freezes", rather than looking for ways to avoid having to rebuild directories.
That said, one way to reduce the impact of such things to some extent is to make sure that your have "journaling" turned on for your HD. Open up Disk Utility , select your HD boot volume (the "volume", not the 'disk" - the volume will be immediately below the HD, but indented a little to the right), and see if the "format" is given as Mac OS Extended (journaled). If not , look under the "File" menu in Disk Utility and you should see an option to "enable journalling". If it is grayed out you may need to hold down the "option" key to access it.
Journaling improves the ability of the drive to "self correct" after a crash by keeping additional records of file states and locations etc.
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Windows won't install and can't get back to mac os

I printed boot camp instructions.  I partitioned the disk with no problem, inserted windows 7 and it came up a black screen with blinking cursor.  I cannot get out of it and if I restart, it says to insert bootable disk.  I cannot get mac os to come up.  What can I do?

Reboot, hold the option (alt) key down at the chime, when the boot manager loads select Mac OSX as the startup disk. When OSX loads go to Apple>System Preferences>Startup Disk and select OSX as the default.

  • My daughter locked herself out of her ipod.  She can't remember the password and now we are locked out.  How can I get back in or restore it after she forgot her password?

My daughter forgot her password on her iphone and we cant get it unlocked.  Is there a way to bypass her password or restore the phone so she can use it again?

Did this back along to mine. Plug it into itunes on your pc (or Mac) and click on the ipod icon on the left hand side. When the device options come up on the main screen, click on restore. Follow the steps and it should restore to factory settings. If you had icloud activated on the ipod all previous purchases should be in the cloud and ready to download onto the ipod afte rit has been restored to factory settings, otherwise you'll have to download them all again. Hope it helped.

  • How can you get back a lost high score after a partial sync?

I was playing a Temple Run game, which I was currently getting a high score on, when I plugged it into my computer to charge. Since it was the first time I had plugged it in, the Mac asked me to do some stuff. After my iPod started to sync, everything was fine. I then had to leave, so I ejected it and left. It kept syncing until I was out of the wi-fi range and down the road. I go into Temple Run, and find my game I was playing gone. The coins weren't added, and the high score wasn't even updated. When I came home, I tried syncing it again, and the info still didn't come back. Is is possible to regain the data back? I just really want the 7 million high score back...

Try restoring from backup.  If yu did not backup since you messed up, restoring from backup should get you back to when the backup was made. Got to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says "Prevent iPod...syncing" otherwise when you connect, a backup will be made that does not contain the info you want.
