Can't get camera to play for log and capture.

Please help. I am in the middle of a huge project and I am stumped. I literally could log and capture without issue last night. Today, I can rewind and fast forward with log and capture, but when I press "PLAY" I get the spinning beach ball.
I have been using FCP for years (currently FCP 5.0). I am connected to a SONY TRV 18. I tried switching the camera out. I have restarted, trashed prefs, reinstalled FCP, tried the "Quicktime fix", and repaired permissions.

Glad it spontainiously corrected itself. If it happens again and you did not do a QT/OSX upgrade, you might try the FCP Rescue path.
Click Here, select the appropriate version of FCP Rescue (4 for FCP4.x - 5 for FCP5.x), download it, expand it and select TRASH.
This will delete your FCP preference files that might have become corrupted.

Eject Button for Log and Capture

Does anyone have a solution for ejecting tapes from the Log and Capture screen so the tape is ready to change when you get to the deck? This seems like a feature that would be really helpful for users using "Professional Decks". I have a BetaCamSP in one in NTSC and and one in PAL, a D-2 deck, a DNW-A45, a DigiBeta and a HVR-M35U. I use an AJA for I/O. Thanks

It's been on lots of request lists as I think it's in the Avid GUI.
But tape is dead so they're probably not going to bother. There's even been talk that Apple may (maybe even should) remove the whole log and capture interface as it's one of the oldest parts of the application and a major pain to rewrite to 64-bit. Third party apps, including the QT 7 player, can be used for tape capture.

How can I get AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow 4.2.5 to work with OS10.6?

I've upgraded to the latest version of Mac OS and now AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow 4.2.5 won't run. Any suggestions on how to either run this utility or otherwise get access to my old Snow Dual Airport via another method? Airport Utility doesn't see the device, despite repeated scans. My computer and iPad connect no problem to the device, but both iPod and iPhone won't take and hold an IP address. (If any one can help me solve this issue, I can live without access the Airport.)

Unfortunately, you will need another Mac running a much earlier version of OS X to be able to install AirPort Admin Utility and make any settings chances to the router.
Since the normal life of a wireless router is around 5-6 years of use, now might be the time to consider a new router that will provide far better performance than the older Graphite/Snow AirPort.

Log and capture problems for HDV using FCP 5.0.1

I cant seem to get a picture in my log and capture browser when using HDV. The screen says my camera is connected, I see timecode correctly rolling in sync with my cameras timecode, I can use the controls, but no picture on the screen?
When I hit capture now, the capture screen pops up and gives a message "waiting for data from device".
we shot at 720p at 25fps, there is no capture preset for this in my version of FCP. Could this be the problem? Please help!!

It's a mac osx 10.4.11 and a 2 ghz intel core duo. I'm using easy set up in final cut pro, but there is no option for hd fire wire basic (which apple support told me to look for). The only hd options are 1080i50, i60 and 720 p30. The other hd options are for the apple intermediate codec. When I use the easy set up for hd 1080i60, then go to log and capture, it doesn't give me the preview window to set in's out, batch capture etc. It only lets me capture straight from the camera and I have to manually stop it and start it which is a major pain. Plus the clips need to be rendered once I put them in a timeline. I've shot and edited on mini dv with final cut for nearly 7 years, but now that i've tried to upgrade and shoot hd mini dv, all of these problems have arrived in capturing. I'm starting to think my version of final cut pro (5.0.1) just doesn't work with hd, unless it's very time consuming. Any ideas?

i have a JVC GZ-MG505AA hard disk camcorder and i cant get it to use the log and capture functions. I tried to use the easy-setup but FCP cant control my camera. Its 3CCD HDD but i dont know what settings to use. can anybody help me?

I think you are correct when you say "FCP cant control my camera". That model does not have a Firewire port, only USB and S-video and Composite ports. Final Cut requires a FW port to control log and capture functions on a camera.
What does the manual say about the transfer of the files on the camera's HD to a computer via USB? JVC certainly works with PCs, but I'm unsure about the mac. The camera probably came with software to allow this transfer.
I think your best bet is to transfer the files to a PC, transcode the files with Quicktime Pro and then transfer to a Mac for use in FCP.

Audio lag from Canon XHA1 speaker during log and capture

Hey All,
I'm working with a Canon XHA1. I'm logging and capturing video shot in HDV (1920 by 1080) @ 60i, . I can see the video on screen but the audio playing back from the camera is about half a second behind what I'm seeing on screen.
My video monitor on the camera sincs up fine with the audio during this process AND my final capture is fine. It's just hard to work with this audio delay during the log and capture.
Is this a settings issue? I don't think I can monitor sound through the computer during log and capture, right?
Here are my settings:
Sequence preset:
HDV - 1080i60
Capture preset: HDV
Device control preset:
HDV Firewire Basic
Video Playback: None
Audio Playback: Default
Any suggestions?
AND can anybody tell me what Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 means?

Odd motion blur in Log and Capture

not on the video camera's LCD, but on the Log and Capture window
i'm suddenly having this motion blur, just when subject even slightly moves...
there is like blur of small lines, but agian, Not on the original footage playing off camera.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone (if you're using iOS 7), then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

Both the AVI and the MOV file extensions refer to the file container and not the compressed data the file contains. Both are generic file containers in that each may contain any valid combination of audio and/or video data that is compatible with the codec component configuration of the system on which the file was created. On the other hand, whether a file is playback compatible, conversion compatible, and/or edit compatible depends on the data actually contained in the file container. So, you are basically dealing with two separate issues here—the container and what is inside it.
Basically, if you want to make your files ediit compatible with iMovie, you must change your file container to one that is acceptable to iMovie and convert the data to edit compatible audio and/or video compression formats as may be necessary. The best approach is to determine what codecs were actually used to create the original AVI files and add them to your system if possible. In most cases a codec package like Perian can be added to your system's codec component configuration to may the AVI file playable. Once they are playable, in the QT 7 app then they can be chnged or converted to file types and compression formats that can be edited in iMovie. (While Perian handles most codecs commonly used to create AVI files, it does not handle all possibilities and, while the Perian codec package still works under cureent Mac OS versions, its development group has decided to drop further development/support of the package.)
Background: AVI is a file container originally developed by Microsoft back in 1992 but for which official support was discontinued about 11 years. Despite its limitations, Windows users still tend to use this file based on its open source ease of use and generic nature, thus, making its use so popular that most users are unwilling to switch to more modern but less generic file types. Since some AVI legacy compression formats have never been transcoded for the Mac or use beyond OS 9 or OS X PPC platforms, it is often important to know what specific compression formats are contained in the AVI file to know which codecs to add to your system and which not to add in order to avoid possible codec conflicts.
You can use many different converters to convert AVI files to iMovie edit compatible files. Most third-party apps contain their own buit-in codecs which do not relay on the Mac codec component configuration. Free ones, like HandBrake, usually have limited conversion capabilities while those that have more varied outputs are usually commercial in nature and will cost you additional cash. QT 7 Pro or the free MPEG Streamclip app allow you to access you own system's component configuration and use any available codec component like DV, AIC, MPEG-4, H.264, Photo JPEG, etc.—all of which are iMovie compatible for editing purposes—but only after making the AVI file QT 7 player compatible.
In order to determine what compression formats wewre used in your AVI files you can
1) Try checking the Finder "Info" window,
2) Use the "Inspector", "Media Info", or "Properties" window of any player app that will open the file, or
3) Use a general media utility app like "MediaInfo" to read the file characteristics.

I can not get apple air play to work. I have down loaded three diffrent apps looking for a solution none of them were the right one. I spent over $10 in these apps. Can I get a refund. Do I need apple tv to run air play?

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:

Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
