Can't get dynamic text in Flash 8 pro to work

Hi,
This is driving me nuts. I am using SWObject to send a
variable to my Flash 8 swf. The swf is basically a header that
plays a video and I want to put the name of the web page
dynamically on top of it. Sounds simple right. Well I can not get
it to work. In the past I have done dynamic text boxes without any
problem.
I have uploaded all the files to my clients server (
including the fla and the HTML page that accesses the swobject code
I have also tried other more conventional means to load the
Variables ( in the URL address and using Flashvars with a normal
object and embed tag ) Nothing seems to work.
Is there a problem with dynamic text and Flash 8?
I'm pulling my hair out any help would greatly be
appreciated, Thanks in advance.

Hi jimWPX, I have no problems with dynamic text in Flash 8,
and I see no problems in your file.
Could it be that the js doesn't parse for Flash 8 correctly?
A quick check for version seems to suggest that it's embedding with
tags for v 6 Flash. Might be problematic.
An alternative is FlashTag.js,

which works fine for me also. Hope it helps

When I mess with the setting on my mac mini, it goes from saying that that is one of the devices to my macbook pro being the 2nd device. I think that something happened as a result of my using the migration assistant and now it thinks that my macbook pro and my mac mini are one and the same computer. Any ideas?

The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
The new one is a 2.3 GHz intel core i7
In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem. Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page. Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them.
(I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.)

How can i get videos created in Prem Pro to work in iDVD?

I’ve just burned my DVD and the videos I included are consistently missing a large strip off the left hand side. The videos were created in premeiere pro (mac version) and the dvd in iDVD. Premiere pro setup details copied here (I'm based in the UK).
H.264 format
PAL DV – 720x576, 25 fps, lower
AAC – 192kbs, 48khz, stereo
VBR – 1 pass through, Target 3, Max 6
Multi-plexing MP4, Stream compatibility – Standard.
I tried using an MP4 converter – and whilst iDVD no longer throws up an encoding error, the left hand side of the videos are still being shaved off. I've also tried creating an image before burning. No luck there either.
Supposed to be delivering this DVD Saturday afternoon! All help welcome.

I've sort of shot my wad on this particular subject but there are two users who are really the experts on formats, PAL, etc. that should be able to help: Bengt Wärleby and Klaus1. I'll see if I can contact them and get them to drop by.
In the meantime there might be a workaround that you coud try:
1 - create a slideshow in iDVD.
2 - drag the video file into the slideshow.
3 - select any slide duration except Manual. Do not select any music or transition.
4 - in iDVD's Slideshow preference pane check "Always scale slides to TV Safe Area".
5 - follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Play the disk image with DVD Playter to see if this will display the full video or not.

I can't get Dr Browns Image Processor Pro to work from Bridge with Photoshop CC 2014

We use the wonderful DR Browns Image Processor Pro script a lot, but cannot get it to work from Bridge with PS CC 2014. When I select files in Bridge CC and then go to Tools> Dr Browns Services 2.3.1 > Image Processor Pro it just pops up an error message that says ReferenceError: photoshop is undefined.
The actual script works fine if I launch it from Photoshop CC 2014 - just not if I load it from Bridge CC.
I have unistalled it and re installed a few times, both manually and through the Extension Manager CC.
I am using a Win 7 64bit computer.
I assume there is some change in the scripting part that loads Photoshop from bridge but not sure. It worked fine in CC. Just not CC 2014.
I opened the Dr Browns Services .jsx file but don't see anything obvious. This is the section related to the Image Processor Pro part:

I copied that .jsx file to a new name "Xbytor Image Processor Pro.jsx" edit that file changed the string Dr Browns services to "Xbytor Image Processor Pro" then commented out all the code that added tools menu items but "Image Processor Pro" and I put that file into
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Startup Scripts CC\Adobe Bridge" even though Bridge CC is 64Bit seems to use theat location.
Bridge CC was updated by the creative clouds update and opens Photoshop CC 2014 now

Can't get new version of Flash Player to work.

Both the NY Times and Slate sites (this is today, though this started with the Times two days ago and I didn't get to it until today) indicated I needed to update the player. Did so from links on both sites, the download and install shows as successful, but no good on getting anything to work and as far as the sites are concerned the new version isn't installed as I'm still being told to install it. Went to Adobe site directly to install it, that didn't work. Checked through the troubleshooting site and did all that I was told to do there, went into Tools, made sure scripting was enabled as was Java script and both were, I didn't need to change anything. After downloads closed and reopened browser (IE right before 9, OS Win 7 64-bit), no good, then re-started computer, at least twice (at this point I've lost count) and also no good. Noticed someone else's post indicating problems with YouTube videos and I have that, too. I go to some videos and for a very brief flash of time I see a red banner at the top of the video, barely there long enough for me to read, telling me something about Flash Player. This was never an issue before the download so I have no clue what's going on here.

Dynamic Text in Flash 8?

In Flash 7 I was able to link to a plain text document by
simply including the variable name as the first line of the text
document. (Ex. content= message here)
Since upgrading to Flash 8 I can't get the text to show up.
What has changed?

How to use an dynamic text from Flash in FlashBuilder with swf ?

i'm trying to develop a game in flex builder and i got a problem with the dymanic text i've imported from flash. I want to insert a scoreboard in my application and for doing that i should use dynamic text in flash. I create a dynamic text in flash and then a import it to Flash Builder in a movie clip, and i called the dynamic text "Score". Now i've tried to use the "Score" variable to change the value of the dynamic text box un my flash builder application, but it doesn't change anything.
I read somewhere that i've got to use the score.text value to change the number of my score but that doesn't works because Flash Builder tells me that this sort of variable don't contain the .text value.

I did not know creating a new keyframe,
creates a new instance.
Yes, I had used the same dynamic text field instance name in
numerous, new layers (great observation).
With the objective to display the User's name throughout
the timeline (on and off)...
I'll attempt to paraphrase your solution;
Use a single layer to display the dynamic text field.
Extend this layer's timeline throughout the movie, or end use of the dynamic text field.
Help with this one ??
Set the visible properties to true or false as need through out the timeline.
( Does require an AS3 ? )

Side of effect of using the above solution;
The SWF in it's attempted state, uses the dynamic text field instance, in
different places, different text sizes, on the stage, throughout the Movie.
(i.e. the User's first name appears in different sentences...)
Per the solution above,
I believe I will be limited to One location, one format setting.
Is this assumption correct?
I can make this work from a display / Movie point of view.
However, your first VAR concept, noted above, might be
worth exploring should more flexibility be required.

Can't get right size in Flash

I've created an 800x800 comp in AE.
When I export this to an SWF file i9t comes out rectangular and the stuff that's supposed
to be outside the 800x800 frame shows. Can I not output 800x800?
If I do an FLV file it works, but I'm having trouble using them on the website so want
to use just SWF.

In a real-world application, no.
In a RW application, a typical need is merely to know the "logical role" of the button (i.e., the button that validates the form, regardless of whether its text is "OK" or "Save", "Go",...). Text tends to vary much more than the structure of the UI over time.
In this case you can get the source's name (+getName()+), which will be the name that you've set to the button at UI construction time. Or you can compare the source for equality with either button ( +if evt.getSource()==okButton) {...}+ ).
All in all, I think the best solution is: don't use the same ActionListener for more than one action (+i.e.+ don't add the same ActionListener to all your buttons, which leads to a big if-then-else series in your actionPerformed() ).
Eventually, if you're listening to a single button's actions, whose text change over time (e.g. "pause"/"resume" in a VCR bar), I still think it's a bad idea to rely on the text of the button - instead, this text corresponds to a logical state (resp. playing/paused), it is more maintainable to base your logic on the state - which is more resilient to the evolutions of the UI (e.g. if you happen to use 2 toggle buttons instead of one single play/pause button).

I just had this problem today!, but i have a SOLUTION ,
right click the finder icon and click "go to folder"
type : "~Library/ Application Support
Find the minecraft folder, Backup your Saves, (drag the saves folder onto the desktop) *OPTIONAL*
delete the minecraft folder, not the application.
Open the minecraft Launcher (it will take a while to start up)
Put in login info and when its loaded up, press "play"
The blue bar will take a minute or two...
And then... it should start normally
U dont need to repeat the steps every time u open Minecraft. You can later replace the saves folder with the new one back to where it was whenever you want at the same place where it used to be before. Hope this helped!
