Can't get e-mail to work using wireless router . . .

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to help my sister get her e-mail working. She is running a Macbook with 10.5. She is sharing an Internet connection with a PC, via a wireless router (a D-Link unit). The ethernet goes from the modem to the router, where it is hooked into the PC via cable. Her Macbook is accessing the router wirelessly via Airport.
She can surf the net perfectly fine, however, she has no e-mail functions. When she tries to send or receive e-mails, she gets error messages about ports being unable to send or receive info. If she plugs the ethernet cable directly into her laptop (instead of going wireless), e-mail works perfectly fine.
Any ideas where I can look? I played around for a couple of hours but couldn't come up with anything. I have no experience with networking, however, my hunch is that it's some sort of settings problem with the router that are preventing her e-mail from working in this setup. The bizarre thing is that everything was working fine a few days ago and then the e-mail servers went down with her ISP (neither the PC or Mac could get e-mail). When they came back up, the PC was able to run some self-diagnostic software and resolve it's e-mail issues, but the problems with the Macbook persist.
We could simply just hook everything back up to "hard" wires through a switch, but she really wants the wireless functionality.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the response orangekay. As it turns out, they took back the router that they had bought and they picked up an AirPort Express station and now everything is working perfectly fine again.
Still not sure what the exact problem was but my sister is happy with how things worked out

I can't my Apple mail to work. It started when I did an up date. When I went to use mail (the little stamp at bottom) it said, "you can't use this version of mail with this version of OS X. I looked on support and was told to solve the problem by downloading combo package and security update. Did it 3 times. I did everything. Still doesn't work. I even took everything mail out of applications and the library and did those two updates and still can't get it. Could I reinstall OS X Snow Leopard and would that affect any of my documents like i photo or i tunes? I don't want to loose anything! I have spent way too long on this problem. I feel like I own PC with windows again. Please help!!!!!! Frustated

No need to reinstall Snow. Try trashing all the Mail.apps you have. (But don't empty the trash yet!) Do a search for those. Reinstall Mail from the DVD in Optional Installs. This will put Mail 4.2 in Applications, then run the Combo Update, which will update Mail to 4.5, and then the Security Update again, in that order.

Can't get HP 3050A to connect to wireless router

I've recently switched from Comcast to AT&T and I cannot get my printer to connect to the new AT&T router. I've gone through the same steps as far as holding down the WPS button and what have you that it states to do on the printer but it just "times out" and won't connect. I had no problem connecting wirelessly when I was using Netgear router and Comcast. Now it won't connect and it's very frustrating. On top of that, I cannot find my printer install CDs. I haven't needed them before, but I have no idea what to do now. Please help. Thank you!

Hi Darryl,
I did a little digging, and I have some bad news. I received this information from a Mac subject matter expert regarding this printer in combination with Mavericks:
The ASU driver does not include a Wi-Fi Setup option. This means, a wireless installation in Mavericks is only possible if the printer is already setup up for the network.
Unfortunately, this means that unless your printer was already set up on your current wireless network, it can't be set up on a new or different wireless network without a full feature driver. Furthermore, this printer does not have a full feature driver beyond OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion.
This might not help, but this printer can be set up on a new wireless network for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Mac OS X v10.5 through OS X v10.8.
For Mavericks, it looks like a USB connection is the only way to print.

Can't get older mac to connect to wireless router

I have an older G4 mac, which had an Airport wireless snow type of router. I've currently upgrade to an iMac with an Airport Extreme router. I can't get the old G4 to 'see' the Airport Extreme Network, so I can use the other computer to check email and get on the internet. Do I have to load in the same Airport software on both machines? Any help will be appreciated.

Yes. Let's take a step back. You can use any computer to configure your new Airport Extreme, but first be sure you have installed the Airport Utility program from the link I posted above. The earlier version of Airport Utility you used for your Snow Airport doesn't have the necessary features to configure your new Airport Extreme.
The only reason to keep the old Airport Utility program would be to configure your old Snow Airport Base Station, which you're not using any more. So put it aside.
Since you're having trouble getting your G4 to connect at all, it makes sense to use your new iMac to configure your new AirPort Extreme. So let's use it for now.
The ability to use the dual band feature of the new Extreme is described starting on page 20 of the following: Apple Airport Networks (early 2009). The document is very lengthy but don't let that bother you - Apple's Airport base stations are extremely versatile and the manual gets very detailed, but most of it won't concern you.
I made a wireless network named Airport Extreme on my iMac.
The way you worded this concerned me, so at the risk of sounding Presidential, "let me be clear"
Technically, you don't want to create a wireless network on your iMac - the wireless network with which you want to connect is created by your Extreme, and you use Airport Utility to make that happen.
Your Airport icons on all your computers should look like one of these:
If it looks like this:
then you have created a "computer to computer network". You don't want that.
Next: the passage of the Apple Airport Networks manual above also describes how to set up your Airport Network's wireless security...
I click on the Airport Extreme, the next window comes up with Wireless Security: WEP password. I type in my password I used to set up the Airport Extreme network, and get the following error message: There was an error joining the Airport network "Airport Extreme". ...
I advocate using no security at first, to eliminate one roadblock when first configuring a network. After everything works, set up WPA or WPA2 Personal. I'm reasonably sure your G4 supports it. The older WEP protocol is no longer considered secure - it amounts to "feel-good" security.
I trust this gets things pointed in the right direction. If you're still stuck write back and we'll get you un-stuck. Your G4 will work with your new Extreme.

How can I get 'Mac mail' to work with PC exchange server

My employers have just upgraded to a new Exchange server and now mail won't work on my mac. The only option I have been given is to use Outlook web access, but it is not ideal for my working needs. The sticking point is that mail wants to connect via IMAP, but the server isn't configured for this. I used to be set up as a POP3 account, but this is not longer an option with our administrators. Is there any way I can continue to use 'Mac Mail'?

Can't get BT mail to work

I was moved to BT mail from BT Yahoo Mail about 2 weeks ago. Since then I have been unable to use the BT Mail and have had to rely upon my Hotmail account and Incredimail to send & receive e-mail. When I click on the Email tab I get a page saying that BT Mail is loading and then another page opens with the BT Logo but a blank page underneath the banner. Clicking on any of the buttons does nothing, the blank page remains, My default browser is Mozilla Firefox 32.0 which is fully up to date, and I have tried using Internet Explorer but get the same result. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I have also tried doing a Live chat on the Help page but that disconnects me as soon as i've pressed "Submit", tried phoning as well but have been stuck in queus for so long my arm wore out.
Is it possible to uninstall BT mail & then re-install it ?

How can I get Photo Mail to work to send pictures?

I have just purchased Photoshop 11 and have been trying to send photos by Photo Mail but it is not working. Any suggestions on how to make it work?

As John T. Smith mentions, Photoshop Elements questions should be placed in the Photoshop Elements Forum at Adobe. I believe he has given the appropriate links for doing that.
Here are some of the questions that will need answers:
1. How have you set up the Sharing in Elements Organizer 11, Edit Menu/Preferences/Sharing/Email Settings? What do you have set for your Email Client? Have you tried to use Adobe Email Service as the Email Client and successfully gotten an verification code via an email from Adobe?
2. Specifically where along the process is the feature not working? Please give that in detail when you post in the Photoshop Elements Forum.
3. If you get to the point where the email is prepared and it just will not send, then check the taskbar for what looks like a double entry when you place your mouse cursor over the Elements Organizer thumbnail there.. On the second, click Maximize.

I would appreciate to have my mail back on my computer! For some reason my passcode will not work. I have put my passcode in there more than ten times 20 times 30 times. and nothing works. I finally thought i better change it and so I did. It to doesn't work after I changed it for the 30th time. I need help now!!!!!!!!!!
This is driving me nuts. I need to have my mail on my computer. I don't wish to go to google search for yahoo i should have my mail sent to me on my computer.

If you have an ISP (like ATT, Earthlink, etc.), access your email through webmail. If you don't know how to do this, the ISP's customer support should show you how to access your webmail. They will be able to tell you if the problem is with the network, passwords, or software. Through your ISP, you should be able to access or change the passwords to make them work again.
If you don't have an ISP, we'll need a few answers: What is your ISP? Have you changed your passwords, or can you update them? What is your email program? Is there a reason you're posting your MacBook Pro question in this forum, rather than your OSX version?

Can't get icloud mail to work today, on and device, is there a problem with server?

Anyone else with same problem or anyone can tell me how to sort it out please?

I too am having the same problem. Whats the point of having a server status stating everything is working when clearly it isnt. I'm just in the process of changing all my important mail stuff over to gmail - I just cant be without mail for hours whilst there is no status update.
I would understand if this were a free service - however its not.
Does anyone have an ETA on a fix ?

Can't get external speakers to work using headphone jack on MacBook Pro

I have a male-male connector that I use for my iPod to radio or multimedia player to play on external speakers. When I plug it into my MacBook Pro, sound goes dead on the MacBook Pro, no sound comes out of the external speakers, and the preferences on the MacBok Pro say "Headphone : Headphone port" and volume is at full, and mute is off. Am I doing something wrong, or do I need a repair? I unplug the cable and sound comes back.

No such problem, eww. The speakers were plugged in and working. I shut off the speakers, but did not unplug them, and when I turned them back on, there was no sound. I tried my headphones, and there was no sound from them, either. The headphone port was dead. I restarted, with no change.
I was getting ready to do an SMC reset and read the preliminary steps. The last one before resetting the SMC was to shut down the MacBook Pro. That brought the port back to life. When I restarted, I had my external speakers back.
Go figure.
I have not upgraded to Lion because I have PowerPC apps that I want and/or need, so this was not a Lion-related bug. I am certainly glad the port isn't dead. I was not looking forward to having to send in my MacBook Pro for repair.

The script for Ct firefox install tells me: "selected file isn't a valid FF application, try again." I might try using Safari alternatively. Hope you guys find something out soon. thanks

Can't get external speakers to work (not wireless)

I have the same speakers I had with my former Mac, they are not wireless, they plug in and they are turned on and working perfectly. But my computer keeps using the internal speaker. How do I get it to "see" the externail speakers? I checked all the connections, turned the speakers on and off (They are "powered" speakers, JBL). Thanks

Thanks so much. I swear I tried this before, but saw the other person's post and tried one more time -- plugged the speaker jack into the microphone input. It worked!!! On my old Mac, they were 2 separate inputs. Mine are working fine now, I feel silly for taking up your time but I really appreciate you replying. Happy Nwe Year!! PS I did go to System Preferences but didn't see that choice; I guess I was lucky that my solution happened to be simple, probably because they were the same speakers I got for my old Mac. You may need to reset your broadband modem to convince it to connect to a "new" device. Depending on the model of modem, that can be as easy as removing power for a few moments. If that doesn't work, remove power and wait 15 minutes. Further reset steps can involve pressing a "reset" button or removing a battery if the modem has one. In the worst case, your ISP may need to edit its settings to update to the MAC address of the new router. If they won't or can't do that, powering down the modem for 16 to 36 hours can reset the connection.

The Apple IDs from @mac.com and @me.com (Older MobileMe and more recent iCloud Names) are also Valid AIM Screen names.
Any other sort of Apple ID is not a Valid AIM Name.
A Google ID that is associated with Google Mail Account (And has "Talk" enable on your Google Settings) can be used in iChat as Jabber Name/ID. (Google Run Jabber server).
Jabber and AIM are different IM Services and it is not easy or straight forward to add Buddies from one Service to the Buddy List of another. (As A Starting point consider it "impossible")
iChat 4 and 5 have links to the registration page of @Mac.com here with a "Get an iChat Account" button in the add (Account) screen (You select @mac.com or MobileMe and then press the Button - Choosing AIM and then pressing the button used to lead to the AIM registration page but AIM moved their page).
Apple IDs can be any valid email (or an @mac.com or iCloud registration)
Therefore you could make a Google ID into an Apple ID.
However this will not be a valid AIM Screen Name the way @mac.com or MobileMe/iCloud ones are.
