Can't get EE and SE to play nicely with deploytool

Hi,
I have tried the following combinations of installations:
j2se 1.4.x / j2ee 1.4.x (beta)
j2se 1.4.x / j2ee 1.3.1
j2se 1.3.1 / j2ee 1.4.x (beta)
With all of these combinations, the deploytool utility which comes with the j2ee bundle crashes on me at random times (usually within the first 2 minutes of use). And once its crashed the whole machine needs to be rebooted.
The only combination which works seems to be:
j2se 1.3.1 and j2ee 1.3.1 (so that's what I'm using now),
but I'd like to be able to use the latest and greatest.
So, has anyone else been having similar troubles?
Is this just a deploytool thing?

Yes ! I am facing the same problem. Whenever I try to run, JAVA Web Start or deploytool, it just crashes, and reboots the system.
I am trying to use the 131 combination as you suggested. But I would definately like to use the latest and greatest.
Anybody, if have a solution, let us know please.

Boy do I have a challenge for you all...
I am an expat living in China and can't seem to get my mac to play nicely with the Great Firewall. I am looking for some help/advice on the subject.
I am connected using ethernet. We have a wireless router in the apartment that my husband has no trouble using (on his evil PC). I get a full signal, the computer says the wireless network is up and running... but I am unable to get anything loaded from the internet unless the cable is connected. This is just the beginning...
The real problem is with applications accessing the internet. My computer can't connect to .Mac unless I do it through the internet. If I open my system preferences I get an error message that reads, in part, "There's a problem connecting to the required iDisk server. Please try again later." Account name and password have been verified.
I think this is part of a bigger problem. Entourage can't download my email, but I can access my email if I go through the internet. None of my widgets that connect to the internet (CNN, eVites, weather) will connect to the internet. iWeb is unable to publish to my .Mac account because the computer can't sign on. I get a very pleasant error message there, too. I think something is blocking programs other than FireFox from getting an internet connection.
Does anyone out there have experience with this? On the count of three everyone put on your thinking cap! One...

If the router works for your other computer (your partner's laptop) and is able to access the internet from there, then I'm pretty sure your router is fine as well as your internet connection.
The problems that you are describing certainly sound like there is something wrong with the network setup of your mac.
You should open up the System Preferences>Network pane and see if you are getting valid IPs either via wireless or via ethernet cable. You should have DHCP or "Obtain IP address automatically" selected. What is your current IP that is showing in the window?

How can I get Pages and iBooks to play nice??

Is there a way to create a Pages document on my iPad and then export it to iBooks as a PDF without sending to myself via email? I would hope this seamless interaction is available, without connecting to iTunes and syncing.

I don't see an option for saving a pages document as a PDF and transfer to iBooks. I see a number of available options but that isn't one of them.

When i try to play a video that i purchased from iTunes it runs really slow whereas other videos that I have downloaded onto my computer run at the normal rate through iTunes. It seems to only be the videos purchased from iTunes that skip and run slow. Is there anything i can do to make the files run smoother?

The lag may be caused by settings on your computer, or it could be that your computer doesn't meet the video requirements for iTunes (which are higher than the standard iTunes requirements). According to Apple, to play your videos properly you'll need this:
2.0 GHz Pentium class processor or better
512MB RAM
32MB video RAM
If your computer meets those specs, this article is good for troubleshooting settings that could be causing the problem.

How can I get my LaCie NAS to play nice with Lion?

Hi all-
I bought a LaCie 2TB NAS a couple months before upgrading to Lion. All was well when my MBP had Snow Leopard instand and the NAS was plugged into my Air Port Extreme. As many know, this came to an end with the upgrade to Lion. I contacted LaCie and they said it's Apple's fault. Not true, according to this PC Mag article - http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2390376,00.asp#fbid=T9f11ODgJPm. I'm just trying to find some solution that will allow me to use this drive the way I used to use it for the 6 weeks I was able to before upgrading to Lion. I don't have experience coding and am not really looking to replace my Airport Extreme with a Time Capsule (I bought the AE earlier this year).
Any information is definetely appreciated.

Sorry to bring you bad news but it looks like LACIE has decided too screw it's 5Big v1 customers and after several support tickets has basically given me two options.
1. go back to OSX Snow Leopard
2. buy a 5Big v2
All v1 device owners seem to be in the same boat with OSX Lion.
Way to make my 5Big v1 still under warrranty a door stop.

Can't get Dolby and DTS options to work

Could anyone help me with my new Sound Blaster Z soundcard. I can't get Dolby and DTS options to work with my optical cabel under Cinematic tab in Pro Studio. I've googled enough, tried basically everything. Cinematic tab was never greyed out from the beginning. It either gave me intense, very high pitch noice when you acticated Dolby or DTS options or now... giving error which states:
"The SPDIF-out (Sound Blaster Z) device is currently being used by another application. Please close any application that may be playing audio to this device and try again."
I've re-installed drivers numerous times, tried different Windows operating system (7 and 8.1). Speakers (Sound Blaster Z) is made as default device, other stuff is disabled. I seriously don't know what to do, I'm god **** frustrated, because apart from Cinematic tab not working the sound isn't that great compared to my integrated motherboard soundchip.

I'm suspecting you are trying to play back encoded content.

Other people have been having similar problems with songs over the last few days, I assume that there has been a problem with Apple's servers.
Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting those tracks from your iTunes library and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find those songs and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

When you purchase a movie with iTunes Extras, the primary movie along with the iTunes Extras will download to your iTunes Movie folder. Mouseover the cover art and click the icon on the album to open the main menu to play the movie or view other features.

It's exactly as I stated. Whenever I try to drag these kinds of loops (ESX24 / software instrument loops? the ones marked in green with the white music note next to them) from the loop browser into the timeline a message comes up saying Audio Not Found for that loop. And a new track is created automatically when loops are dragged into the timeline, so I'm not creating some other random / synth instrument track so I'm not sure what the deal is... But perhaps I'll try creating a software instrument track first and then drag the loop into that track and see what happens - maybe there's something with the default settings that automatically creates audio tracks whenever loops are imported?

You can put the music on any device you choose, as long as the device can play the format. Purchases from the iTunes Store are in industry-standard AAC format. If you want to use them on a player that can only handle MP3, you need to convert the tracks. See:

Don't drag the midi into an open Logic project. The tracks won't set up correctly.
'Open' the midi file with Logic as if it were a Logic project. Then all the tracks will be set up so you can start editing them and applying better saved sounds and instruments, but you'll be at a starting place where you can hear what's going on.

I am getting the EXACT same problem. I started to watch an iTunes purchased TV Show episode back on February of 2014. I stopped after about 15 minutes to come back and watch it later.
Yesterday, I tried to continue the tv show, and NOTHING. All I get is a black screen with no audio. The time bar is advancing, so iTunes thinks it is playing. BUT NOTHING.
Can anyone assist with this problem?
PS: I use my iTunes on my PC only, and have for years without this problem.
PC is fully HDCP compliant.

You need to select the playlist on the shuffle, when you play it. If you do not select a particular playlist, it plays from the All Songs list. When you set the switch to play in order (not shuffle), the All Songs list plays in alphabetical order.
To select a playlist, use the VoiceOver feature. This document explains how to set up and use VoiceOver.
iPod shuffle (4th generation): Enabling and using VoiceOver
When you select a playlist on the shuffle, it should play in playlist order (when the switch is set to play in order).
