Can't get em to work on css

i am using this on my css sheet - h1 {font-size:300%; font-family: "Comic Sans MS"; color: red; text-align:center; em}
but that heading does not show up in italics.

Jon should get your "right answer."
But you should understand that <em> is "emphasis." You may add that in any way you like.
So:
em {
     color: red;
is a perfectly acceptable way of adding an emphasis.
You can also define an italic:
.italic {
     font-style: italic;
Here, you've told the client reading your style sheet to be perfectly stupid: Follow what you told it to do. That is, of course, what computers do best.
