Can't get email over shared net connection. Please advise.

I have two laptops, a G4 powerbook and an iBook. My G4 is connected to the net via an ethernet cable and I want to share that connection via airport with my wife's iBook.
I have followed the directions for sharing the G4 connection and it works fine. I can use Safari on the iBook to surf the net, but the problem is I can't access the email server specified in Mail on the iBook. It won't connect to the server. The iBook and has a different email account and a different server from the one specified in Mail on my G4.
Is there some option in sharing that I should check besides web sharing? Or is there something else I need to do? Please advise.

In the sharing control panel under the "services" option there is no Internet Sharing. There are a slew of options, one of which is "personal web sharing". According to the help menu I need to turn this on to allow the iBook to access the net through my G4. This works. However, the iBook can't get to its mail server to download emails.

Okay, I think this is a problem with settings on my time capsule, but I can't figure out what. On my iPhone 5 and wife's iPad I can get email over the cellular network and over wifi at work. I can't get email over wifi at home, get a can't connect to server error. Also had a friend, who uses the same ISP, try with his android phone - same error, but works over wifi at his house. Since I can get email over cellular and wifi at work, I'm fairly confident that I have the server settings correct. Any ideas?

Was facing a similar issue with my friend's iPad (Latest one). Forcing the DNS Server to 8.8.8.8 (I think Google's DNS servers) fixes this issue. I had faced something similar on my iMac a long time back. Something a little strange about how Apple products do a DNS lookup? Not sure if it is an issue with the response time of the DNS servers as well..
In any case, the good news was changing it to 8.8.8.8 worked.. Luckily the iPad's network configuration tool allows you to navigate to the pane where you can see the DHCP supplied IP addresses and just go to the DNS field, delete what was present there and force it to this address.
The difficulty in coming to this conclusion was the fact that the browser works fine for all the sites we had tried. It is mostly the apps that had trouble, and the App store also was inconsistent in reporting details..

Can't get email over my (and only my) wifi.

I discovered the other day, whilst happily spinning tracks in iTunes from the other end of the house using Remote, that I can't check my email while connected to my wifi network. This happened whether or not I had WEP enabled, after a re-boot of my modem, and so on. Today, I took a look at the IP, router, and DNS numbers that the iPhone (and incidentally, my MacBook) show when I'm connected to my wifi. The IP is 10.0.2.1; the router and DNS are 10.0.2.2. Obviously, these are not what would be expected (when I connect to my neighbours open wifi, I get an 192.x.x.x IP); and I'm surprised that I can manage to surf, use Maps, and so on: but I can. I just can't connect to my provider's POP server.
I wouldn't have posted this, but I can't find anyone else's story that quite matches it; and it's frustrating all **** out of me.

Can't download email over ethernet

Greetings!
I can surf the web over my ethernet connection, but Mail can't download email over the same connection.
Does anybody have any idea what is going on?

What does “Mail can't download email” mean? What’s the problem exactly? Is it that Mail doesn’t check for mail on this account, or that it checks but downloads nothing, or what? What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)? What error messages do you get, if any? More info, please.
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
In Mail, open Window > Connection Doctor. What does it say?
Could it be that Mail or this particular account is in an “offline” state? Is the Mailbox > Go Online command enabled or disabled?
Go to Preferences > Accounts > Advanced. Is Include when automatically checking for new mail ON or OFF?
What’s the time interval chosen in Preferences > General > Check for new mail?
Open Window > Activity Viewer and tell Mail to check for mail on this account. What do you see there?
Open the Account Info window by choosing Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailbox list in the main Mail window. Does Mail display there the messages that it doesn’t download? Do they appear as already downloaded or as not downloaded yet (dot column)?

Good afternoon. For over a week I can't get email on MY DASH. Can't see mail in my Gmail Viewer. Get a POP3 error ... can't connect to POP server. Thought it may be a Gmail interface issue so tried to get Hotmail and then Earthlink email in the Chumby email app. Both give same message POP3 Error , can't connect to pop3 server. I have done multiplr hard restarts / power off / "restore to normal operation" procedures. I have searched the discussions and community and can find no mention of POP server issues. Please help .... advise. I'm a disabled, but still working, senior citizen without a fancy, internet, cell phone and my Dash's ability to display my email is very important to me. this problem could probably be caused by a Firefox extension.
To make sure that no extension is causing the problems,
start Firefox in Safe Mode by following the instructions in the [[Safe Mode]] article.

Phone and messages is a carrier issue. Sprint needs to check your account to make sure it is set up correctly. If everything looks good on their end, then do a reset on the phone, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone restarts, try it.

Originally we were getting the error that the phone could not connect. Then, after deleting the account multiple times and re-adding it again, the error message CHANGED to having to log in to Yahoo and authorize.
When we went to Yahoo in a regular browser and logged in there was an alert telling us about connection attempts so it disabled mobile/iphone connectivity. It required that we change our password FIRST.
Then, we went in to Manage Apps and Webpages and saw that iPhone was not there but Facebook was.
After all of this went back to the phone and deleted then re-added the account again and SUCCESS!
It now also shows up on the Yahoo Manage Apps and Webpages.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

I can hear them running but I can not get them on the computer any more. They did work at one time.

Nothing appear on my desktop.
I did Repair and Verify the HDDs in Disk Utility>First Aid from the
Utilites App about a dozen times ans they all said everything was good
except for the last time there were erors found and I ran the
Disk Utility from the Start Up Disk and the repairs were made and everything
