Can't get email over wifi at home, but can at work.

Okay, I think this is a problem with settings on my time capsule, but I can't figure out what. On my iPhone 5 and wife's iPad I can get email over the cellular network and over wifi at work. I can't get email over wifi at home, get a can't connect to server error. Also had a friend, who uses the same ISP, try with his android phone - same error, but works over wifi at his house. Since I can get email over cellular and wifi at work, I'm fairly confident that I have the server settings correct. Any ideas?

Was facing a similar issue with my friend's iPad (Latest one). Forcing the DNS Server to 8.8.8.8 (I think Google's DNS servers) fixes this issue. I had faced something similar on my iMac a long time back. Something a little strange about how Apple products do a DNS lookup? Not sure if it is an issue with the response time of the DNS servers as well..
In any case, the good news was changing it to 8.8.8.8 worked.. Luckily the iPad's network configuration tool allows you to navigate to the pane where you can see the DHCP supplied IP addresses and just go to the DNS field, delete what was present there and force it to this address.
The difficulty in coming to this conclusion was the fact that the browser works fine for all the sites we had tried. It is mostly the apps that had trouble, and the App store also was inconsistent in reporting details..

Can't get email over shared net connection. Please advise.

I have two laptops, a G4 powerbook and an iBook. My G4 is connected to the net via an ethernet cable and I want to share that connection via airport with my wife's iBook.
I have followed the directions for sharing the G4 connection and it works fine. I can use Safari on the iBook to surf the net, but the problem is I can't access the email server specified in Mail on the iBook. It won't connect to the server. The iBook and has a different email account and a different server from the one specified in Mail on my G4.
Is there some option in sharing that I should check besides web sharing? Or is there something else I need to do? Please advise.

In the sharing control panel under the "services" option there is no Internet Sharing. There are a slew of options, one of which is "personal web sharing". According to the help menu I need to turn this on to allow the iBook to access the net through my G4. This works. However, the iBook can't get to its mail server to download emails.

Can only send email over wifi?...

Anybody have any clues why this would happen? I get a message that the server is not responding if I try to send an email on the 3g network (Orange, France) but it works fine once hooked up to wifi. Sending an identical email at the same time with the computer over wifi goes through so it's not a timing issue.

I'm using port 587, SSL, authentication: password.
Works fine over WIFI but edge network rejects it every time.

I'm running into the exact same issue. However, I am running my own mail server and not going through Gmail. On wi-fi, everything works fine. On Edge, I receive the error message indicating that the server is not responding, unable to connect to server, etc. I spoke to Apple support and they just walked me through the settings and said that they did not know what was wrong and suspected there is something wrong with the phone and wanted me to take it to the retail store to have them look at it and possibly send it in for repair. When I spoke to ATT they said that they are not experiencing any disruptions in the Edge network and that they also suspect it is the phone. I personally do not believe it is a defective phone. I upgraded my phone a couple of days ago the 1.1.2 firmware and within 24 hours later I started having this problem. I also tried setting up a connection to my .mac account and experienced the exact same thing there, so I know it is not isolated to my mail server. Funny thing is, I can access the internet over the Edge network just fine, so this has something to do with either the mail ports being blocked somehow within the Edge network or has to do something with the Mail Application on the iPhone which is not recognizing or not able to connect through the establised Edge connection. Maybe there is some sort of firewall on the iPhone that is blocking those ports? If anyone from Apple or ATT is listening, please investigate! I do not want to mail my phone in for repair when it is a perfectly good phone and may be able to be fixed with another firmware update.

I can't get into my itunes on my ipad message reads email address is already verified for another Apple ID but when i go to my computer I get into my acct. just fine. Also when it asked me to verify this ID in an email i get the same message! Now, just so you know I have gone to the account page and edited everything but nothing happens. When I try to retrieve all info on the page that says Apple Acct. forgot ID and password, I type in my name and message reads we do not have your name on file.

Try restarting your iPad first and see if that helps. Hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut down. Then hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button and let the iPad restart. Then try to sign in again.
If that doesn't work you can look through this to seek help.

Can't get msn or hotmail with firefox but can with explorer,always used firefox before-what's up?

started in safe mode but still can not get msn or my hotmail, just comes up with a blank page.Removed all cookies and cache and all add-ons are off. Removed foxfire and reinstalled to no avail. Have done everything all can think of but no way it will work yet if I go to Explorers the damn thing works.Any ideas?????

Sorry you are having problems.
Both sites work ok for me using Firefox. That comment may not make you feel good but along with the fact that both sites work for you on IE it does tend to point to something rather specific on your computer affecting firefox.
I do notice quite a few questions recently about this. In many cases clearing the cache or just a Ctrl+F5 reload will help, along with clearing the cookies for that site.

Can't get email over my (and only my) wifi.

I discovered the other day, whilst happily spinning tracks in iTunes from the other end of the house using Remote, that I can't check my email while connected to my wifi network. This happened whether or not I had WEP enabled, after a re-boot of my modem, and so on. Today, I took a look at the IP, router, and DNS numbers that the iPhone (and incidentally, my MacBook) show when I'm connected to my wifi. The IP is 10.0.2.1; the router and DNS are 10.0.2.2. Obviously, these are not what would be expected (when I connect to my neighbours open wifi, I get an 192.x.x.x IP); and I'm surprised that I can manage to surf, use Maps, and so on: but I can. I just can't connect to my provider's POP server.
I wouldn't have posted this, but I can't find anyone else's story that quite matches it; and it's frustrating all **** out of me.

Can't access email over wifi with iPhone 5, iPod Touch, or iPad

All was working fine, then suddenly stopped. Get message "Cannot Get Mail The connection to the server failed.", followed by "Cannot Get Mail The mail server "imap.yahoo.com" (or "imap,gmail.com) is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings." message. Email works on cellular connection on iPhone; not an option on iPad or iPod Touch. I've tried verifying settings, resetting all devices, deleted and reinstalled email accounts (yahoo and gmail). No luck. Any suggestions?

Can't receive email in Apple Mail & Entourage but can send email

Have MacBook Pro and been using Leopard for several months - within the past 24- 48 hours Apple Mail and Entourage Mail will not receive or retrieve mail. I can send mail but not retrieve. No changes in e-mail accounts. I can retrieve mail using Window XP on same machine.
Any suggestions?

If an option exists on networksolutions to allow you to log in to your email via your web browser then access your mail via webmail then try deleting the offending message that way.

Can't get to portal site using IE , but can get to it using Netscape

In IE 5.5, I keep getting the following error:

TNS is unable to connect to destination. Invalid TNS address supplied or destination is not listening. This error can also occur
because of underlying network transport problems.
Verify that the TNS name in the connectstring entry of the DAD for this URL is valid and the database listener is running.
But in Netscape 4.75 it goes to the site fine.
Some people I have asked to check it on their systems say that it works for them in IE, but not in Netscape.
Would this be a caching problem? We tried clearing the cache for the browsers that displayed this error, but it still didn't work.
Would anyone know why this would happen? I have seen some mention before about this being an error due to the expiration fo the portal30_public password. Would this be the case here?

I have the same error sometimes.
Somehow your cookie is invalid.
Try finding your PORTAL30_SSO cookie and delete the file.
(Or delete all your cookies [C:\winnt\profiles\username\cookies])
Then close Internet Explorer.
Now when you try again it should work fine.

My Flickr and Yahoo pages show up as text only. Not a problem with other browsers. I disabled the add-ons

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
