after which Firefox (or Safari) "doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (macappstore) isn't associated with any program"
Could anyone tell me how to fix this?

Went to a third-party forum and found my answer. There is a 10.6.8 updater pack you MUST download and install to get the Mac App Store running properly.
I am quite disgusted that two separate Apple reps couldn't figure that out. The update software option showed my operating system as being up to date. This is a screw up on Apple's part, and shows a Windows-like lack of commitment to folks on older equipment/operating systems.

If you go to the computer where your sync your phone to and open itunes and then go to edit in the tool bar then preferences then device preferences then devices.. hover the mouse pointer over your device name in the back up lists that appear there and it shows the IMEI

Very few 3rd party wireless extenders will work with an Apple router, so your best bet is always to use an extender that is the same brand as the main router. An AirPort Express is a popular choice for this type of application with another Apple router.
If you had a Cisco router, then a Cisco extender would be your best bet. Same for Netgear, etc.
But......a wireless extender can only "extend" the quality of wireless signal that it receives, and not much of a wireless signal is going to make it through a brick wall, so whether any extender might do what you want is open to question.
You won't know whether an extender using wireless to connect will work to your satisfaction in your home until you actually try it out in your home.
The performance will always be much better if you can connect the extending device back to the main router using a wired Ethernet cable connection.
If it is not possible to run the Ethernet cable, a pair of Ethernet power line adapters might be able to send the signal over the existing AC power lines in your home. The theory with these devices is that you already have the wiring in place, you just need the adapters.
In practice though, things do not always work as well as the theory might suggest, so if you decide to try a pair of adapters, it might be a good idea to understand the store's return policies before you buy.

I do infact have one done through Sync with a 4S, AND a 3GS.... In a Ford. When iOS was released, both phones were updated and would no longer connect... Can't get onto internet through my airport extreme!!!

My airport extreme is connected to my network wirelessly. When I open the airport utility it sees the base station and I have it set up for the network. There is a green light on the base station, all seems well.
Except when I connect my laptop to the base station through an ethernet I can't get onto the internet.
When I do the network check there is a green light on the ethernet but for the network there is an amber light.
When I go into the system profiler and check the advance settings for the ethernet using the DHCP this is what I get.
IP: 169.254.192.90
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Router: nothing
When I connect to my wireless network on my lap top I get.
IP: 192.168.2.8
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.2.1
I will admit I am no genius when it comes to computers or the internet. How do I get the **** internet through my airport extreme?
Oh, and how do I find out the DHCP Client ID?

IP addresses in the 169.254.x.x range are know as "Self-Assigned" IP addresses. They typically arise when your computer, configured as a DHCP client, is unable to find or negotiate with a DHCP server.
The fact that you computer can find the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station's (AEBSn) DHCP server wirelessly but not by Ethernet may be one of the following reasons:
o The Ethernet cable or cable connectors are bad.
o The Ethernet port on either the computer or the AEBSn is faulty.
o The Ethernet port on the computer is not configured properly.
Assuming the fault is the last item above, let's double-check your Mac's Ethernet settings.
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
o Verify that a Built-in Ethernet option exists. If it does not, click "+" to create one. (Note: If you are unable to create a Built-in Ethernet configuration, the Ethernet card in your computer either doesn't exist or it is not recognized.)
o Verify that Built-in Ethernet is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.

o Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
o Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
Advanced > DNS tab
o Verify that your ISP's DNS server(s) appear.

Oh, and how do I find out the DHCP Client ID?
You would create the DHCP Client ID by entering a value in this field in System Preferences. (ref: System Preferences > Network > Advanced > TCP/IP > DHCP Client ID)

Can't get on internet through router

I recently got a Netgear router (WGR614v6) from my son. They used it on a mac so I know it works. What I need is to have the router hardwired to my G5 imac and wireless for a PC laptop for my husband. I have a DSL modem. I have gone back and forth with Netgear, reconfiguing it at least 4 times, upgrading it, restarting everything numerous times, and now they say it is a problem with the imac. I can't get on the internet at all hardwired to the mac. I can with the PC. I had it configured so that the laptop was online with wireless, however I cannot use the iMac online then. I tried the setup disk and the iMac does not recognise it. I have tried configuing the router through the iMac and it will not connect. There has to be a setting somewhere I am missing. Please help, this is frustrating!

How come I can't access the app store on my iPod touch? There is no icon and I can't get to it through the iTunes icon. My iPod does have the latest software.

On my iPod touch I don't have a spotlight search icon or option available. Also under my settings and general there is no "restriction" options or settings. I reset the iPod several times and that doesn't work.
The thing is the music that is on my iPod is not all in my iTunes library so I can never sync automatically. Also if i restore to factory settings then it will erase what i have on my iPod and not in my library. I always manually add songs. When I plug in my iPod and i go under Summary...the only other tabs are music, tv shows, photos and info. There is no Apps tab. When i plug in my iPhone i do get the apps tab.
I got my iTouch awhile ago....is it possible that this is why i can't get apps?? I got the iTouch back in 2008.
Ughhh this is so frustrating. I just want to get this one app on my iPod Touch. Please help!!

Nexus 3064 switch: Can't get MAC addresses through SNMP

Hello Everyone!
I'm seeing an issue in our Nexus 3064 switch where we can't get the MAC address table using SNMP. At the same time, I can see MAC addresses of all the ports from the switch command line (show mac address-table). I've verified that SNMP is enabled and I can fetch other switch information (such as VLANs) using SNMP.
I did an SNMP walk to get the mac (
snmpwalk -v2c -c <communityString>@<VlanID> <ManagementIP> 1.3.6.1.2.1.17.4.3.1), and it didnt return anything.
Could any of you please let me know what can be potentially wrong here? Really appreciate your help.

This could be caused by CSCto56055 "not getting any value for dot1dtpFdbTable objects", resolved in 5.0(3)U1(2) and later releases.

You do not.
Apple is not law enforcement or a private investigator.
If you enabled the "Find My iPhone" feature prior to the device being lost/stolen, you may be able to track it via iCloud.com.
If you did not enable this feature, there is nothing that can be done.
Contact your carrier and law enforcement.

Lost Serial number. Can I get new one through buying new product?

Hi, I'm new to the forums, but not to the products. Been using them over 5 or so years I think. Anyhow, I have an issue that I cannot solve very easily and am kind of stuck.
I bought (well, had my University buy for me.) CS4 Master collection 3-4 years ago for my studies in Animation at University. It was payed for through Uni due to me having a disability. Anyhow. I had it installed through a different company who help out with software needed for disabled people, and so I had no issues with starting it up.
The trouble is it was installed on a laptop, which at the time I needed due to me having to dart around campus for various lectures etc. I needed portability. Now however, I have graduated with a decent degree, unemployed for a year and my laptop is slowly dying on me. It's slowing down, crashing every so often when photoshop/ toonboom is on, just a pain to deal with.
I was trying to install the CS4 on my brand new PC but the serial number is gone. I have no idea where it is, or what happened to it. The only people who MIGHT know what it is are the company who installed it but despite having sent them an email asking for it, I have received nothing.
I was considering buying an upgrade, in fact the CS4 is that student and teacher version, so I thought I aught to get a standard type. Trouble is I heard that I need the original serial number from my CS4 even if I do get a new one.
Is that true? If I buy a new one will it come with a new serial number so I can start afresh? The issues with my old laptop are just getting annoying and I have since bought a new Mac book to replace it.
Any help would be great.

Yeah, I came across an issue with the answer given, as the serial number was wrong AND missing 4 numbers. However I did come a cross an old file on my old laptop with CS4. When I first got the CS4 there was an issue with the serial number not working so we contacted adobe to see if it could be fixed and I guess it was eventually resolved.
Anyhow, I used the serial number I found through PECoutejoie's suggestion, but it didn't work. So, I tried out the old 'broken' serial number, expecting it to be rejected as well and... it worked! Colour me surprised!

Can't get iChat working through Airport

First off, thanks for all the great info here, I successfully troubleshooted (-shot?) connecting my iSight to my old G3 tower which is wired to the network, changing my Linksys router settings and everything. The kids saw Grandma (I had to fix her firewall long distance, I did that successfully too), iSight and iChat AV are great!
But now I'm stumped.
I have a G3 laptop, I'm running Panther (10.3.9) and iChat 2.1 (though when my new G5 arrives-- MAYBE TOMORROW HOORAY-- I will of course be running Tiger on that and will presumably upgrade the laptop once I'm up to speed). I have a white C-cup Airport, not Extreme, running 4.0.9 of the Airport software; it in turn is connected to the Linksys router and the DSL modem, but since they work with the desktop system, I assume they're not the source of any problem.
Yet I can't connect to appleu3test03 via wireless like I did via the wired system. I get a failure/check connection doctor message. So are there settings on the Airport I have to change to get through?

Hi Michael,
If the Linksys is the device that connects to the internet it is proably set to do DHCP. This means it issues IP addresses to the other devices on your local LAN. This tends to be a default setting.
WHen you access the device through a web browser it will have this on the front page of the set up screen of a Linksys in about the fourth section down.
The Airport will also "Distribute Addresses" by default (In the Network Tab of the Airport Admin Utility)
This means you have two devices that are DHCP servers and iChat does not like this. IN fact the way the Airport works it wil also pass ton the IP address the Linksys gives the Mac, even though you can not see it. Effectively the Mac belongs to two Subnets of your LAN.
You can turn the Airport into a Wireless Access Point and contiue to distribute IP addresses from the Linksys.
Better still you can set each device with a Static address. If you set an Address for the Airport from the Linksys this will end any further spreading of the Subnet form the Linksys and the Airport could carry on doing DHCP or you could arrange to have it as an access point And Static the computers address to the modem through the Airport.
(Alternatively you could have a static asddress to the Airport and then seperate Static Addresses to the computer from the Airport. This would still be subnets but the computer would not be in both).

Just bought new MacBook Pro and can't get FCP Studio to load on it. Any Help!

I just bought a new MacBook Pro and I tried to load FCP Studio on it and it says it does not support it. I use FCP Studio 2 and I need to use it as I don't know FCP X. Any suggestions. I currently have FCP Studio 2 on a 2008 Mac Pro with Maverick on it.

Final Cut Studio 2? That's 8 years old...4 OS versions ago. Mavericks doesn't take FCP 7 into account, much less FCP 6. In fact, to even install FCP 6 onto the PREVIOUS OS, Mountain Lion, you had to hack the terminal, or install Pacifist and do some shenanigans to get it to recognize the installer.
In short, it's very difficult to get older, discontinued software to work on new computers with new OSs. If you need to use FCP 6, then you need to stick to older computers and OS's that run it.
It is on your 2008 MBP because, no doubt, you upgraded the OS around the already installed apps. I'm not sure how well it will work.

Can't get on line through wireless

I am new to wireless. I get on line and then the server goes down saying that it can not find a signal. But my modem lights all work and my roommates all get on line without any problem with their computers. This was working fine up until yesterday, then it started saying "Error, can not find." Please help...
