Can't get Final Cut to recognize my camera.

I have a Canon VIXIA HF11 High def video camera and I can't get Final Cut Pro to recognize it. I don't have a firewire connection on the camera. It is a USB 2.0. I assume this is the root of the problem. iMovie recognizes the camera and imports the files. Does anyone know of a way to get the files into Final Cut? Thanks!

Might I suggest a training DVD

This is an AVCHD camera. You need to use the log and transfer function with the correct settings. You should not use iMovie for capture as it captures in an older codec that's not very good. In FCP7 you can capture in ProRes or ProRes LT, both of which are superior.

How can I get Final Cut ProX to recognize my Canon Vixia HV30 camera?

Does your Mac have a FW 800 port? If it does, use a 4 pin to 9 pin connection. If you have only Thunderbolt, use a FW>Tb adaptor. Either way, your Mac should see the camera. If it does, so will FCP.

  • Can't get Final Cut Express to work on my I Mac desktop

    Hi All,
I just purchased an I Mac - the first in my life. I simply couldn't get Final Cut express to work on my station cos it keeps telling me I need Accelerated Graphics Port. I wonder what it is. My Mac fulfills all the specs for Final Cut Express to work, but it keeps prompting me that I need the AGP when I click on the icon. If you have any clue and even bette, the remedy, can you please drop me a msg here, thanks!

I guess you purchased the Intel based iMac, but you have Final Cut Express version 3.0 or older. This version is for older Macs based on PowerPC.
If this is the case, as a temporary solution you may simply bypass the AGP error message by pressing ESC when this appears, and then you'll be able to work with FCE 3.0, even though emulated by Rosetta.
The best solution is to upgrade to FCE 3.5 (99$) that is Universal and works natively on Intel.
In any case if you look for AGP in this forum you'll find many posts on this topic.

  • TS2521 How can I get Final Cut Pro 7?

I would like to get Final Cut Pro 7. Is this possible? If so, does the Studio version have motion, etc.?

    Motion and Compressor are separate.
And know, that FCP-X is unlike FCP 7 in just about every way possible.  The way it works is vastly different. And you cannot open FCP 7 or 6 projects in it without buying a 3rd party converter.
Now, I hear many people like it...I just wanted you to know that it is VERY different from FCP 7

  • Working on a movie... can't get final cut to even recognize dek for capture

We are shooting a movie on a mini dv camera, it's hd, and we hooked it up like normal with firewire and final cut won't even recognize anything is connected... checked cords, restarted final cut. What do I need to do to make it work!?

If it's a small Canon and it shoots 24P, it is the HV20. I have that camera.
You need to make sure it is in Player mode (opposed to camera mode) then visit the menu. This may be the problem.
Next, use the joystick to navigate the menu. Go to Menu/Settings and set the 1394 out to HDV out. It may be set on DV out.
If that doesn't work, try iMovie. The camera shoots in native 1080i format, but has an option for 1080i with 23.976fps in a standard 3:2 pulldown.
FYI, I've been successful at removing pulldown from the camera in Cinema Tools but that's another topic. If you are editing the footage, working in true 1080P is very nice and is only possible with a small handful of cameras out there. The HV20 is remarkable for it's ability to shoot footage that can be pulled down in its price range.
Another thing: Most editors new to HD editing would be best served by avoiding the native HDV format. FCP and iMovie offer a way of capturing the footage and converting it to a special format called Apple Intermediate CODEC. This is a much larger filesize than HDV, but it is much more responsive when editing. HDV is rather choppy and seems to lag behind my editing movements a bit. Apple Intermediate is much faster feeling and requires much less CPU power to playback. This can further be explained in the many topics found here using the keyword "intermediate".
    Good luck.

  • How much can i get Final Cut Studio 2?

    Hi,
*in fact, i love this program so so much and i will get it to make tutorials in my blog or website as well but i can't buy it because it is so expensive for me and i'm student too,now i have some questions:-*
*1-is there discount for this program?.*
*2-can i get motion 3 only and buy final cut Express to make my tutorials?.*
*3-i don't need sound track and dvd studio so can i get custom dvd for Final Cut Studio 2 with low price?.*
*Thank you very much and keep going Apple i love you.*
    *Best regards,*
    *Khaled Samir.*

    1. There are academic discounts directly from Apple - though I do not know how it will work outside of the US. Google Apple Education and go to the education portion of the apple website.
2&3. You can not purchase any of the applications independently from the whole Studio package or get a reduced price because you will not use one or two of them.
Final Cut Express has a great deal of the functionality of Final Cut Pro but it will work only with DV and HDV video. It does not work with non-standard image sizes/codecs.

  • How can i get my Imac, running OSX 10.6.8 with a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, how can i get Final Cut Pro 4 and DVD studio pro 2 to run on it?

I just bought an IMAC running OSX 10.6.8 (not sure what flavor that is). The processor is 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (Late 2006). When i run Final Cut Pro 4 on it I get the following error.
                        "Configuration error
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing
                                    * AGP graphics Card"
If Final Cut Pro 4 doesn't run on my system, what version of Final Cut can I run on this as I am a filmmaker and really am comfortable with Final Cut Pro.
On the same note I also have DVD studio Pro 2 and that just quits without any message.
Hope any of you can be some help.
    Thank you,
    Doug

Thats my biggest confusion. Help Me...

  • I can't get Final Cut Pro X to work.

I keep downloading Final Cut Pro X's trial version.  I live in the United States and I have a Mac Laptop that is less than 6 months old.  It's a Mac Book with over 550 gigs available so I would like to know what I'm doing wrong.  It says the file's unrecognizable.

Same here, downloaded 4 bytes. tried the manual link same thing. Someone please fix it. How can you evaluate a product if you can't even download it?

  • I can't get Final Cut back on my Macbook Pro

When I first installed Final Cut Studio on my Macbook Pro back in 2007, I manually removed the apps I didn't use that often to save space b/c my hard drive was almost full. I eventually removed all the apps from Studio, dragging them all to the trash can. Also deleted their folders in Library -> App Support to make room on the hard drive.
But now when I try reinstall these apps from the installation discs, Final Cut and others (like Soundtrack, Motion, etc.) are grayed out on the list, so I can't install them.
Did I go about deleting them in an incorrect manner that is now preventing me from adding them back?

You're wasting time because you have chosen to without provision. The first act performed upon receiving Final Cut installation disks is to create disk images of the application disks. Not only for backup but for time saving. Then if/when the time comes that you have to re-install the application you simply mount the disk images and perform the installation from them. This saves you the time of having to manually be there to swap through the DVD installation disks and the application is installed much faster because the installation is being read from your HD vs. the DVD's. Not to mention the time it takes to create the disk images in the first place mind you. Just do that during your off time. Create one when you wake up, one during your morning bike ride, one during your lunch hour, one during your evening bike ride, one during dinner, one while you're watching Survivor, and one before bed. Then boom - the next time you come into trouble and have to re-install everything from OS up you're optimized for a quick turnaround on your FCS re-installation. I do this for Macs in the classroom that need to be wiped clean for new lessons.
It takes about 15 mins. to install Snow Leopard on a blank HD and about and hour and a half to install FCS3 from the DVD's. Hardly a day or two. You can cut the FCS3 installation down to about 15 mins. if the application is saved to disk images on a mounted hard drive. So within 30 mins. you'll have a fresh OS and FCS installation using the method described.

  • How can i get final cut see my camera to import video?

my final cut is not seeing my camera to import video? help me?

First, with the camera connected via firewire to your mac, go to applications:  utilities:  system profiler and make sure the firewire is showing the camera.   If not, it's possible the firewire port is burned out on the camera or on the computer.  You can also try swatting out  the firewire cable.
HDV is always a little tricky.  Make sure your easy setup matches your shooting format.  If I remember correctly, the camera may shoot some formats that are not compatible with capturing in fcp.  You can usually display the shooting format in the cameras lcd format.  Let us know what it is.
When you've matched the fcp easy setup to the format you've shot,  quit final cut, start the camera playing with a video signal, and then launch fcp and start log and capture and see if the camera is recognized and if there's video in the log and capture  window.

  • How can I get Final Cut 7 to remember my customized keyboard layout?

Hi everyone, I'm new to this community, my name is Flavio, from Argentina.
I'm on a Mac Book Pro Intel Core Duo 2, using Final Cut 7 and I'm using a customized keyboard layout (1 for zoom in, 2 for zoom out), but everytime I launch the application I have to go to Tools>Keyboard Layout to change it, is there a way to tel the ap to launch that layout almays?
    Thanks!

It works for me without doing anything special.  You might try deleting your fcp preferences
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2491
If that doesn't solve it, describe exactly what your doing to customize the keyboard.
I assume if you do a "save keyboard layout" from the tools menu: keyboard layout  after customizing the keyboard and then load keyboard layout after relaunching fcp, that at least works.

  • Can I get Final Cut X help here

If the DVD takes 3 hours or more to burn does that mean that something is wrong?

What are you trying to burn and how? It's definitely not outside the possibility for the first burn to take more than 3 hours.

Yeah I'm getting the same issue.  I purchased a new Mac Mini yesterday purely to use the new FCPX, and now on day 1 I'm already running into problems... please don't make me switch to Premiere.
Set up the computer with external yesterday, never set anything to Time Machine.  Here's a screenshot of the drive, formatted on Mac OS Extended (Journaled):
And here's a screenshot of FCPX not recognizing the drive:
Apple please respond to this post, would really appreciate some help here troubleshooting.
