Can't get internal microphone to work

Hi..just got my ibook saturday after many years w a pc....I tried using Ichat, signed in to my Aim account...everything works except the internal mic..I checked system pref to make sure vol was up and mute was off, i have the icon on the top tray at full volume. Is there any way to figure out what's wrong. I called AppCare and was told they didn't know, send it in...I just got it Sat!!
Any ideas? Thnks

The squeal you hear is feedback as the microphone picks up the sound its transmitting from the speakers and resampling it. This means you mic definitely works and its a problem with iChat. I've never used it myself but I wud assume if it si a program issue it shudn't involve a trip to a genius. As a convert myself the initial adjustment was a bit strange so it mite be something you've overlooked.

  • Help... I can not get my microphone to work

Help.... I can NOT get my microphone to work with my Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional card. When I plug it in and test it (in either Configure Speech Recoginition - Windows Vista / or in Counter-Strike Source, Test Microphone Button under the game options) both indicate that the system is not receiving any sound. However, both the speakers (5.1) and headphones work fine. I am using a Plantronics headset.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Below are my complete system specifications. Let me know what additional information you need, if any.

  • Satellite C660-18C - Can't get the microphone to work

So I couldnt get the microphone to work so I bought a new one. I also can not get this to work. I have tried everyway I can think of and it simply will not register any sound and yes the microphone is on and the volume is full.
Can someone please help me fix this? Its driving me crazy!

    Hi belthazora,
Just to make sure we talk about an external microphone that you have connected to microphone jack and not internal one? I ask this because the notebook doesnt have internal microphone.
Anyway, if you use an external microphone make sure its listed in sound devices under recording tab. Can you see it there?
I would also recommend a sound driver update if it doesnt work. You can download all updates on official Toshiba page:

  • Can't get my microphones to work with SB Live 24 B

Just got a new Dell PC, and selected the SoundBlaster Li've! 24 bit sound card. Have tried 4 different microphones, and can barely get anything on the windows Sound Recorder. I mean, I almost have to yell. I have tried powered mics, new batteries, and they all record at the same very low level. I think I have exhausted all options in the software settings, so it seems to be a matter of equipment compatablility. Does anyone have any suggestions on what type mics would work better?
    thanks, Mike

Hello. I just purchased an MSI Diamond P4 SLI motherboard, that has the SB Li've 24 Bit intergrated on the motherboard. I too am experiencing the exact same problem. The input level for the mic is extremely low. I have to practically yell to get anything at all. I have already, updated drivers, checked to make sure that mic was my selected input device. Checked +20 mic boost, set all recording levels to high. Ensured that the correct device was chosing for recording. I can use sound recorded and actually record my voice. However the recording volume is extremely low. This MIC is nothing fancy, just an $8.00 mic that works absolutely fine on my Audigy Gamer sound card in another computer. So I know the mic is fine. I have gone over every setting I can find at least 0 times and I can't find a reason for the mic recording volume to be so low. Please help.. Thanks

  • Can't get internal speakers to work

I can't get my built in speakers to work. I checked in my sound preferences and optical digital out port is the only thing there. I haven't a clue and thought I'd ask here and see what all you amazingly smart peeps had to say
    Thanks so much!!
and there is no red light coming from the plug in hole

System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
Make sure Mute is not enabled.
Option click the speaker icon in the menu bar and see whether the internal is selected or not.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

I have selected it in settings, and looked at the volume and gain. It wont work on Lion. I am using a 2008 iMac with 4gb of ram, and it is running mountain lion. How can I fix this?

Hi, most PC Mics/Headphones won't work on Macs that use Line level, to use that you'll likely need an iMic...

OS X does not include Norwegian spellchecking yet.  You have to add it yourself.  See these notes for info:

  • Internal Microphone not working for L505D-S5983 (PLEASE HELP!)

    Hi,
I can't seem to get my internal microphone to work. I have enabled it under Sound->Manage Audio Devices
->Recording tab. However the green vertical bar does not detect any voice. After setting the Microphone boost to +40dB, it detected some noise (since it has some green light) but I realized it wasn't detecting my voice. Since this did not work, I re-set the Microphone boost to only +10dB.  I only have one internal microphone and no external microphone.
I have seen many postings on internal microphones not working on Toshiba laptops but couldn't find a solution to mine. Can someone please help? I think it's about time that Toshiba fix this issue after the countless complaints.
    FM.

No mentions of reinstalling the sound driver. That sometimes turns on the microphone.

  • NB 200 internal microphone not working

I have been using my NB 200 to communicate via skype for some time and now the internal microphone has stopped working. I have managed to get it working for a brief period last night but then it stopped again when my system rebooted. It therefore appearst o be a software issue. I have tried installing up to date driver software (Realtech) and system restore but the computer says nothign has changed so it will not restore. Please advise. I am using XP as my oeprating system

I've got this problem - internal microphone was working fine up to few weeks ago when I last used it for Skype. All that's happened since then is a couple of Windows updates but now I can't get it to work.
I've tried all the things suggested in this thread:
    - Updated Chicony software for webcam
    - Updated Realtek software
An external microphone works OK for Skype and the voice recorder utility but doesn't work with audio/video recording using the webcam software.
A Bluetooth headset (which I know is working properly) will connect with the netbook to listen to music and works fine to listen to Skype but won't work to speak and won't work at all record or playback with the webcam software.
I've fiddled with all the control panel settings including voice settings and run all the tests.
So does this sound like a hardware problem or a software problem? If the microphone itself was damaged, why would that affect the use of an external microphone?
Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm reluctant to follow up the last suggestion in this thread about reinstalling the OS as I'm not sure why that might sort out the problem?
    Thanks

  • Brand New TouchSmart 300 internal microphone not working.

I have been trying to get my internal microphone to work with Skype.
I have done all the tests suggested on this forum and everything says that my microphone is working!
When I record anything  I get a muffled noise not anything like speech.
If I record on Windows 7 Sound Recorder the green bar stays at 25% but no sound.
Is there a simple fix as really do not want to take it back to the shop to have it sent away under warranty.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Re-install Skype, and the drivers.
Reinstall drivers from Recovery Manager or download them from your update site at http://www.support.hp.com .
You can find your PN by pressing CTRL  +   ALT + S.
Update skype, or reinstall it, as I'm sure the latest version is compatible with Windows 7.
After you perform these tests, please post with the results.
I have more HP devices than you'd expect.

    2 HP Printers (J6480 and J5750)
    1 Laptop (HP DV6253CL)
Have at least some experience in each of those devices, and i'll do my best to help you.

  • NB205-N210 Internal Microphone NOT Working

My internal microphone quit working on my NB-205-N210 after using an external headset (w/microphone) in the left side analog audio jacks, now I can't get the internal microphone to work again...  All I get is "white noise" with the volume control set at maximum...  Note: an external analog microphone + USB microphone still work...
    What I've tried so-far:
I have tried both Realtek and Windows XP sound and audio device tools to make sure the microphone was not muted, the volume was turned up and selected + boost on (all where set correctly)...
Un-installing then re-installing the current Realtek HD sound drivers (several times), to no avail...
Dis-assembled the netbook to check the internal microphone, plus substituted an electret microphone element to check - no luck...
Checked microphone plug, plus re-soldered the microphone connector on motherboard - still no luck...
I could get by using an external microphone, but that's not convenient when traveling, or the point...
    Hope someone can help...

My mac desktop will not provide sound from internal speakers.  When I go to audio devices window it only shows airplay.  How can I get internal speakers back.

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
