Can't get internet access unless I am at home...

I can't get internet access, use my navigation or get messages unless I am at home. I have tried everything, and don't know what else to do. Please HELP any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you!

Do you have a data plan with your wireless provider that supports internet browsing and messaging?
If you do, is your signal uppercase or lowercase when you're having this issue? Have you tried reinserting your battery?

I received an iPad 2 for Christmas (the 1st Apple item I've ever owned!) and own a Nokia N95 8GB mobile (that's pretty much on its last legs/ready to die any day).
On the Nokia I've got 2 apps (downloaded from/via Nokia's 'Ovi' app store): JoikuSpot & HandyWi. Both are the free versions.
I've not used HandyWi much - if at all - but JoikuSpot has been great. Basically, it creates a wifi hotspot (as pjl123 mentioned) in a couple of straightforward steps, and allows a few devices to be connected. It displays who/what is connected at a given time - so you can check if the guy having coffee behind you is piggybacking your hotspot or not! - data packets sent received etc.
The paid version has the benefit of allowing you to secure the hotspot and other security features. Their website is www.joiku.com, FYI.
Given how slow behind the 8 ball Nokia has been, their phones are getting cheaper and cheaper - given Joiku's meant to work with Nokia S60, Symbian ^3, Maemo, Meego & Sony Ericsson S60, this might be a cost effective option.
Ps. Ah! One more thing - Joiku's website specifies that 3G must be used; that WAP will not work. Good luck, enjoy!

Can't get internet access with WRT54G router

I recently purchased a used WRT54G. I replaced my old wired linksys router with it and my hosts are able to get dhcp addresses from the router, but they cannot access the Internet. I have tried to use dchp release and renew buttons under the status tab in the router's web-based gui to get a public IP address, but can't get one. I have attempted to reset the router to its factory settings, but I still can't get the public IP. I have no problem getting an IP and Internet access with my old router and the WRT54G works if I disable its dchp and daisy chain it to the old one. Maybe I need to do something else for a complete reset of the router. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jack

the router that you just purchased was maybe configured for a different network before that's why it did not work initially. after making the router back to its' factory defaults, you should reconfigure or set-up the router.. If you have CABLE ISP, enable ''mac address clone'' on the router's set-up page under the set-up tab. then check if you can get a public ip address after that.

Can't get internet access to computer based DVR

I have a computer based DVR (security cameras), that I want to be able to see through the internet. I have done a lot of reading on the net for how to set port forwarding in both the router (Linksys WRT54G) and the modem (Westell 6100G). I can access the camera computer from other computers on the LAN using the camera computer local IP or by using the router IP, but can’t get to the camera computer from the internet. The modem is bridged and I created a port forward to the camera computer both in the modem and router. What am I missing?

This is a similiar set up and linksys requires that you put a port number for the start.
it looks like it wants the same number as the end
so 9000 start and 9000 end

Why can I not get internet access today?

I was not able to get internet access at home this morning and now I can't get it at the office. G-mail says the mail server is not responding. Also, none of my apps are loading. Verizon, please fix this!

Criggs, we have work to do! We can't have you without service and access to your g-mail account. Do you have wireless or landline service? Which wireless phone do you have?

TS1398 my wifi is showing connected but i am not getting internet access. When in the settings wifi settings you can see the wheel or timer spinning but never a check mark like my other iPad.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app

    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

I don't get a spinning ball, it just stops working at whatever page it's on. I can close the program just fine but when I re-open it, either safari or firefox, it freezes trying to load the hompage. This started a few days ago after trying to stream a movie on my computer. I'm on a Mac Air OS X Version 10.6.8 and have downloaded all updates. When I go into finder, it says I have over 80 gigs available. Is there some other memory cache that I need to check? Thanks so much for your help.

I'm not trying to belittle your issues; you're certainly having them and I know first hand how annoying an intermittent AirPort issue can be. (In fact, mine was due to an AirPort driver bug that no one else seemed to suffer from.)
The single best diagnostic you could do is take your system running 10.5.7 to an Apple Store, and try using their in-store network.

If your machine has connectivity issues there, it may be a hardware problem with your machine.
There have been numerous people in multiple threads over the years who swore that an update was buggy because things used to work, but returned later to sheepishly admit that they took their machine in, a problem was found and fixed, and now their Mac works flawlessly with the newer software.
But simply reinstalling 10.5.5 in no way means the explanation of how firmware bugs may be at play here is incorrect.
In the context of that explanation, all you've done is possibly reinstall software that asks to add "2 + 3."

Connecting a WRT54G v2 to BEFSR41. How do I do it to get internet access with both?

So recently I just bought a BEFSR41 to split the internet coming from a cat5e cable from the WRT54G so I can get internet on both my xbox 360 and computer, but I've run into a bunch of issues. First off, I've tried turning my BEF into an access point by creating a new IP, disabling DHCP and connecting it to a numbered port, but I can't get internet from that solution. I've called tech support to see if they could help but I just wasted 2 hours of their time because all the solutions they tried didn't work either. So I'm wondering if its my cable thats the problem. Its a CAT5e cable branched through my room to the office room I say about 50 to 100 feet away. I receive internet through this cable when i connect it to the computer but when i connect it to the xbox it doesnt even register an ip. Also when i connect this cable to my very old netgear router RT314, it can receive internet but it has trouble with connecting to different users. Any help will be much appreciated. Cable Modem----(internet port)WRT54Gport4-----BEFSR41 port4---computer.

If it has an Airport card fitted, yes.
It's very likely it already has, but to be certain, go to the Apple menu > "about this Mac" > More info
Under Network in the left pane you'll see Airport' select that and it'll tell you what card is fitted (if any).
You should also have in the menu bar on the right a pie-slice type symbol; click that and you'll get the option to switch on airport if it's present.
You'll need to set it up in Network Preferences to connect to your wi-fi router.

Normally, AirPort Utility is not used or needed to set up Time Machine backups......unless a default setting on the Time Capsule to Enable File Sharing has been changed.
On the other hand, if you open AirPort Utility, a picture of the Time Capsule should be displayed. Are you saying here that the Time Capsule does not appear when you open AirPort Utility?

Can't get Internet through my own Network Connecti...

Hi, I have a HH3, which I am constantly having to switch off and on again for devices to connect to the Internet. It's been happening for months, and last week BT sent me a new hub, but it hasn't fixed the problem. It seems that our devices connect to the router, but the router doesn't connect to the Internet.
If I select the BT Wifi connection and log in via the Openzone homepage, I get Internet access. But this is not practical for all devices. My children can't play on their tablets and viewing / downloading TV on demand is pretty much impossible. And these were the main reasons for upgrading to Infinity.
I've had several conversations with call centre support staff, but the problem persists.
Can anybody tell me whether this is a settings issue that I can fix? My family is going nuts!

EDIT: As you initially posted on the Infinity board I have assumed you have infinity. If you only have ADSL this will not apply to you.
Make a direct connection from your PC/Laptop to the Openreach modem which will eliminate the homehub. Follow this guide to do that. Use your computer as normal to see if it disconnects. If it does disconnect you will know it is either a faulty modem or a line/exchange fault.
Step 1: Remove the homehub from the modem
Step2: Connect your pc/laptop into the modem using LAN1 port
Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
Step4: Connect to the internet then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
Step5: Username [email protected] and the password as BT
Step6: connect, If it doesn't,keep pressing try again until it does.

How can I get internet connectivity with my iPod Touch cabled to my PC?

Most devices "tether" to a computer (PC or iMac) for internet connection. I cannot find any reference in the user manual on getting internet access from the connected PC to the "tethered" ipod touch. How can I accomplish this?

The iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS support Internet tethering over a USB cable, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3574.
The iPod touch can connect over a Wi-Fi network, as mentioned here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2031.
If your PC has a wireless card, you may be able to create an Ad-Hoc Wi-Fi network that can share the Internet access to the iPod touch.
You can also get a wireless router, like an Airport base station http://www.apple.com/wifi/.

Can't get internet to work w/windows: DSL- Graphite

I am trying to get this home network to function, here is the problem.
The home network consists of the following:
DSL
Airport Graphite
Ibook G4
Win 2K PC
The G4 works fine, but i can't get internet on the Win2K machine. It even gets as far as having an IP assigned using DHCP, but then no internet.
Perhaps because the default gateway is missing?
I am able to connect to the base station it seems. The wireless connection comes up and shows that it is connected.

looks I'm having same problem
my Ibook G3 and ABS graphite working as perfect team, any way I set the DHCP in my network. BTW, here is it:
- DSL router (hired from ISP), web GUI, bad technical help; set with 192.168.1.1 private IP@, no DHCP
- ABS fw 3.84, manually set as 192.168.1.3, internally DHCPing addresses like 10.1.1.x with NAT
- iBook G3 700 with X 10.3.3 and airport card
- company laptop running W2K SP4 with D-Link DWL-G122 wireless adapter, always connecting to the network but unable to browse any web page
everything works fine (I'm writing this message wirelessly from iBook), looks there's no way PC can get an IP@, the wifi adapter can't reach DHCP server (as a result of a "ipconfig /renew [adapter name]"; it always gets automatically an IP@ like 169.x.x.x because no DHCP server is available.
I tried also the ABS to distribute IP@s in 192.168.1.x format (without NAT) but no change. I tried to work with ABS as simple bridge to router working as DHCP server, but PC cannot pass thru ABS... can connect only using ethernet cable to router directly
any suggestion GREATLY appreciated, since I'm working from home and I need to connect from 9 to 6 with PC!!!

Can't get internet on my Ipad and Iphone

Hi,
I just got a new Time Capsule. It is now connected to my TIME WARNER CABLE modem and I am able to get wireless internet on my Mac. However I can't get internet on my iphone and ipad. Althought the light is green and everything seems to be fine. Any clues?

If you have not yet done a full modem reset, that would be the first step to perform.
Push the reset button on the modem (If present) and then power it off
Pull the battery from the modem (if easily accessible)
Power down every other device you have....order is not important
Wait for at least 30 minutes.
Make sure that the Ethernet cable from the modem is plugged into the WAN port (circle icon) on the Time Capsule
Power up the modem and let it run 4-5 minutes by itself
Power up the Time Capsule the same way
Power up each other networkdevice one at a time about a minute spart
Check for proper operation
