Can't get iPhone 4s out of recovery mode and always get error 40 during restore

I tried updating to ios 6.1.2 and I left it for a while since I had to do some stuff. When I came back, my iPhone is in recovery mode and I can't get it to restore using itunes. I always get error 40. I tried restoring on a different pc but it's still a no go. Is it possible that this has something to do with the hardware? I've already looked up possible solutions but my iphone's still in recovery mode. I never had this phone opened nor did I attempt to jailbreak it or anything. I tried asking my carrier for assistance but they're charging me for repairs. The fee's pretty expensive.

Hi there could someone out there please help i've got a Iphone 4 running on IOS 5 and it will not come out of recovery mode> It comes up with the error code -1 which i've looked everywhere on the web but no one seams to have the same issue.
This is a reconditioned replacement phone from the apple genius guys which i paid £130 for and only got 3 months warranty with and as soon as the warranty run out it crashed on me and never been able to get it back out of recovery mode. I've been back to the apple genius guys and they have told me there's nothing they can do other than charge me £130 to take the phone off me and give me another reconditioned phone with a 3 month warranty. Which as you can properly tell i dont want to.

This is a bad hardware error, Baseband Error. Some have reported getting through this error by Restoring iPhone with the SIM Card removed. Try that. Try restoring with different computer. Search Web some more for other thoughts.

thought my iphone needed charging when plugged it it displayed apple logo then after a few mins it said connect to itunes i did this itunes detected iphone in recovery mode and that i needed to restore i have tried this several times and everytime it cant restore has there is an error (21) anyone know what else i can try

Update problem , getting iphone 4 out of recovery mode

How can i get my iphone 4 to work after recent update when I get this message' itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode . you must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes.' i have a itunes logo and usb display on screen and nothing else.
I have tried holding down down power switch and control switch for 15 seconds, but just get apple sign then same as before. i'm sure i'm not the only one with this problem i updated it whilst connected to itunes . I am running with microsoft securuity essentials and poss the firewall may have stopped the update. thats all fine and dandy but how to a get the b*****y thing to work again? Getting iPhone 5C out of Recovery Mode?

My friends gave me their old iPhone 5C so that I could bring it over to a straight talk plan. They didn't have it wiped and they had the Fine my iPhone set up on it. They gave me the password to unlock it but I couldn't connect to wifi because it was grayed out. After reading some forums I found out that you need to restore and update your iPhone to get the wifi option to work again. While trying to restore and update the iPhone it stops in the middle and gives me error message 1669. Now the phone is stuck in recovery mode and I can't get it to do anything!!! I have tried every tip out there from deleting iTunes completely and reinstalling. To the tricks with holding down the power and hold button at the same time. Please help!!!

i was just using my iphone 4s normally and it just froze randomly. i held down the power and home button like i usually do, because my phone freezes up on me somewhat often. i saw a "connect to itunes" screen that i have never seen before, and once i connected it to itunes, it said that it was in recovery mode and the only way i could use it is to restore it. problem: i don't want to lose everything on my phone! everytime i've tried to back it up something crashes so i've never been able to back it up, so if i restore it i've lost all my pictures for good. is there a way to get it out of recovery mode without restoring it? please help!

Can't get iphone 6 out of recovery mode

I installed iphone 5s backup to iphone 6 using itunes. The backup was not complete and said I needed to update iphone 6 ios from 8.0.1 to 8.0.2. It was on the process of doing that when it stopped working. Now itunes doesn't recognize the phone and the phone is still in recovery mode.

Adding to the issue; it got to a point that the phone showed a red screen. IT'S FIXED NOW.
What I did: I used the iTunes in my mac rather than the iTunes in windows. (iTunes in windows didn't work for me because it was my work computer and it has a lot a security, preventing a successful restoration.) when I connected the iPhone to the mac it offered me two options, Update and Restore. I tried restore first. It was a process of 4 hours and in the end nothing good happen. Then I tried update, which got the phone out of its misery.
P.S. I also tried ReiBoot. It really didn't show signs that it worked, but again the computer was recognizing the iPhone with an n/a Serial number. can anyone help (with ways to fix this issue other than the 1's ive already tred) I was charging my phone and when i went to get off off charge it was dead and only displayed the itunes connect image. Ive had error 1611, error 21 error 1611 again and error 21 a further 4 times. I have also been to the apple store and made an appointment with the so called geniuis people however after 4 and a half hours waiting to be seen did they take my phone out the back then over 15 mins later the chap dealing with me came back saying ' WHEN DID YOU HAVE A NEW SCREEN FITTED' I replied 2/3 months ago as i dropped it on my table and the screen cracked so i took it to a phone repair shop and paid £105 to have it replaced and my phone was working fine after I wasnt aware that the warranty covered you for a cracked screen that you was caused because you dropped it accedentaly etc.... well any way tghe chap then said ' I can t help you any further as you need to go back to the shop who changed the screen and get them to resolve this isssue. I asked how on earth can a new sceen fitted cause my phone to go in to recovry mode (2/3 months after the screen was replaced mind) the reply i got was ' Its not my issue its out of my hands........' I was more than tamping, raging fuming leaving there as no advice was given to rectifiy the issue i have with my phone. The following morning i went straight to the shop that replaired/replaced my cracked screen and told them what apple had said to me and that i was to come back to yourselves as you need to rectify the issue? to say the repair guy was baffled is an understatement but in fairness at least he tried to help me and attempted to restore it on itunes 6 times in total and changed the battery to a brnd new 1 plus checked the charging port to make sure this was not faulty. after all his help he was still baffled as to why apple felt its his fault after replacing a cracked screen as the error codes being displayed clearly were a software issue not an issue caused by replacing the crakced sceen'
I was more than happy to pay apple and charges to fix my phone based on the fact my warranty was now null and void (which is pathetic as the replacement screen was an apple origianl replacement screen it was just fitted by someone else whom is qualifed to do so) but wasnt even given the option to pay for any repairs etc.....they simply blamed someone else and offer me no further help.
so a week later after this first hapen to my phone whilst on charge and i still in the same boat and have run out of things to try (which was all found by using google as apple support secton is a load of fresh air and doenst actually give you the info and help your need.
Im grateful of any help that can be offered.

How do I get an unlocked iPhone 3GS out of recovery mode (connect to itunes error) on screen. Cannot do anything on phone until problem is fixed ...

Hello I was trying to update my phone and now it's stuck in recovery mode. I have tried everything I could think of and nothing seems to be working. I hooked it up to iTunes to do a restore and it won't restore it just keeps giving me a download message. I will let you know that I had changed my itunes password but had not made the change in my phone so could that be the problem for it not updating or even staying stuck in recovery mode? Alright, so i tried to install ios 7 and i got an error saying that the ios 7 update got a problem and so then my phone went into recovery mode. i installed tiny umbrella to get it out of recovery and it worked, so then i tried to install ios 7 again and it got another error this time my phone had already been switched to the ios 7 format but was not completely done, so my phone went into recovery mode again. so i tried tiny umbrella again and it just kept going back to recovery mode. i tried to restore my phone after trying to look for another way to get my phone out of recovery mode and i got nothing so i decided to restore my phone and i then get another freaking error saying that itunes could not restore due to a problem, then i just decided to try tiny umbrella one last time and it didnt work. so i tried to restore again but now my phone is not being detected on itunes so i cant do anything, and my phone is stuck in recovery mode... all i was trying to do is get the new update and now my phone is dead, it wont do anything please help!!

Use tinyumbrella. Connect your iphone, click on the random string of numbers that appears in the recover devices window, and click "exit recovery". That solved my problem, and it may solve yours. Give it a shot.

While YOU may not have attempted to jailbreak the phone, SOMEONE ELSE did. Error 1015 occurs by attempting to restore a previously jailbroken phone.
It's very likely you may NEVER get your phone out of recovery mode and your phone may be rendered permanently bricked.
Terms of Use of this forum prohibit the discussion of jailbroken phones. You'll have to scour the internet for a solution to your problem, if indeed one exists.
