Can't get it open!

Could anyone throw me a link to a good site that will show me how to disassemble my 12-inch g4? It took a little spill off the couch, and now the airport doesn't work. I would like to check out the connections inside before sending it off.
I took several screws out, but haven't had any luck prying it apart so far. Please let me know.

Basically, remove the three hex head screws from the bottom, flip out the rubber parts of the feet, remove the four screws under that, remove the two screws from the battery bay, and then you can start prying the bottom cover off. Once the bottom cover is off, you can remove the top cover, then the top EMI shield, then you should be able to see the Airport slot.
As the other poster said, removing and replacing the Airport card is about all you can do. It's quite possible that the connector for the Airport card on the logic board has become damaged, for which the only repair is a new logic board.

How can I get the "Open" and "Save As" dialog boxes to open at larger than their default size? I would like them to open at the size they were previously resized like they used to in previous operating systems. They currently open at a very small size and the first colum is only a few letters wide necessitating a resize practically every time one wants to use it. Any help would be appreciated.

Just upgraded to Maverick and can't get my opening page to stay on GOOGLE. it keeps opening in SITES and then I have to click on GOOGLE.

I just upgraded to Mavericks and can't get my opening page to stay on GOOGLE. IT keeps opening in SITES and then I have to click on GOOGLE to begin searching. I would rather not hav to go through 2 steps to start everytime. I entered google's address in preferences but it ignores my preference.

You don't say which browser you are using so I will assume it's Safari. If so then open Safari - Preferences - General tab and look for where you set the home page, just set it to www.Google.com
If this fails for some reason then open Safari and reset it (look in the Safari menu) and choose all options for the reset. The re-try setting the preference. Post back with your results.

NAT settings Moderate can't get to Open

I have spent 6 hours trying every tip I could find in past Apple Support Communities, Google searches, etc and while I can connect to XBOX live it is still giving me a NAT moderate setting warning.
My modem is an Actiontec GT701-WG and my router is Time Capsule Firmware 7.6. Ethernet connection of TC to iMac. WiFi to Xbox from TC.
I think my issue is double NAT by the modem and the TC.
If I turn off NAT in the Actiontec modem, it requires a static IP address provided by my ISP, which I do not have.
I do not use the wireless component of the modem because the Time Capsule gives a better connection. So my thought is I don't want to bridge through the Time Capsule and downgrade my WiFi connection just to get an Open NAT connection on the Xbox Live Connection Test.
I have enabled UPnP on the modem.
I have enabled port mapping on the Time Capsule for the UPD/TCP ports 3074, 88, and 80 used by Xbox.
I have manually assigned a static IP address in the XBOX network configuration, and matched it to the port mapping on the TC.
I have set the DHCP address reservation in the Time Capsule for the Xbox IP address.
I have unplugged in the order recommended and restarted.
When I play a game online via Xbox Live, I can sometimes hear other players and sometimes I can not, sometimes I hear part of what they are saying.
Am I overlapping strategies and making this harder than it is?
Should I just be happy I can connect and play an Xbox Live game with Moderate NAT settings or am I missing something to create the Open NAT?

Not sure.. it depends on if your ISP supports pppoe.. if so you can use pppoe client in the TC without having a static IP.

Ok, this is the way I would do it..
Pick one device as the router.. the easiest is the modem.. as it uses upnp.. Apple doesn't use upnp which is a pain.
So you need to bridge the TC.. this is easy. Go to airport utility and open the TC.. go to internet tab and down the bottom, connection sharing.. off (bridged).. update the settings.
The TC will now become a wireless and switch.. plus hdd. You can use it exactly as before .. you may need to turn off wireless if the modem also includes wireless or set channels manually.
The TC will create a wireless link between the modem router and the xbox.. but it is purely lan side.. no routing. Any issues are then to do with the modem router and you may need to troubleshoot there as well, or it might work fine.

Before syncing contact info with the supported application on your new computer, enter one contact in the address book on your computer. Make one up if needed. If you are syncing with Outlook 2003 or 2007, do the same with a calendar event.
This will provide a merge prompt when syncing this data, which you want to select.
Any photos transferred from your old computer to your iPhone need to be transferred from your old computer to your new computer.

Can't Get into Open Firmware

Hi there,
I've got a G3 All-in-One and I can't seem to get into Open firmware properly. I've got the right combination (Option-Apple-O-F) but the screen just goes black. I've tried this on two different units and they do the same thing. Am I missing something?

every once in a wile mine does the same thing. but it really is at open firmware its just the screen is so dark you can barly see anything even in a room at night with all the lights out. try doing it in a very dark room and look real close to the screen.try resetting pram first to see if that helps and then try to go into open firmware. I have 2 beige G3 AIO's both do this try to hold the key combo as soon as you start to hear the start chime, then if this dont work try to hold them just after the start chime, and try to hold them at diffrent length's of time first start by trying to jusk keeping the key combo held down, then try realeasing then just after start chime, one of these combo holds should work. but make shure you are in a room that will be dark with the light's turned out cause very faintly you should see the open firmware prompt at the very top left of the screen.

Can't get an Open NAT on my Jetpack

I have a Jetpack 5510L. I use it to play on my Xbox 360 and whenever I get on Call of Duty or Halo, it says that I have a moderate NAT. I can still get into some games but not alot. Is there a way to get it so my NAT is open?

No.
Your VZW Jetpack is sitting behind a corporate NAT firewall. No amount of configuration will allow you to open up your connection so that it will appear more like a normal public internet connection. This is a well documented limitation of the Jetpack devices.
Workarounds are as follows:
1. Find a way to setup a VPN so that you appear to be connecting from a normal public internet connection. This is particularly difficult for an Xbox scenario. You would need a VPN router and then cascade it into the Jetpack so that anything connected to the router is auto tunneled to the VPN server.
2. Purchase a static IP address from VZW for around $500.00.
3. Terminate your Jetpack and get VZW Home Fusion. HF comes with a non NAT connection.
3. Terminate and find an alternative service provider who can offer you a static and public IP address.
Xbox needs public IP Addresses for you to host games. It should not be necessary to join other Xbox games but it all depends on how that game is hosted. At the moment Xbox and VZW jetpacks are not a good combination.

Can't get file open thumbnail previews inside Photoshop CC?

Hi all,
When in Photoshop CC I then go to file / open, my machine won't display preview thumnails for each of my image files (.jpg, .gif, .png, .psd etc) and all I see is the blue Photoshop icon for each of these files, I have also tried changing the view options on the folder and change to medium, large and extra large thumnbails but again they all just display the Photoshop CC blue icon.
When I run Photoshop CS5 on this exact same machine it shows them!
Is there a setting I need to change in Photoshop CC to get this to work, or is Adobe trying to get us to use bridge or?
I am running Windows 7.

It's a trial,but I get thumbs inside Photoshop CC under Windows 7 and for a $15 license it's a deal.
There are programming reasons as to why thumbnails won't register in newer versions of Photoshop,but I'll have to let an Adobe programmer explain that part.

Can not get pass opening screen, help please!!

First off, when I tried to turn of my emac earlier this evening it took a few tries. Then when I went to turn it back on, it got to the opening white screen, with the grey apple in the middle but would not go any further. I tried a few more times, with the same results, white screen, grey apple, no farther.
Any help will be much appreciated, I thank you in advance!!

You can also try to Start Up in Safe Mode, with one important warning: once it gets to the gray screen / Apple logo stage, walk away and leave it be for at least a half hour! When a Mac shuts down improperly (power failure, errors on shutdown, multiple force restarts before completing startup), on next start it will attempt to run a faceless variant of the Repair Disk utility in the background. Depending on the size of the hard drive, the amount stored on it, the processor speed, and the amount if any of damage detected, this can take anywhere from 5 minutes to over 30 minutes. If the process is interrupted and the Mac restarted or shut down, then it tries again from the beginning on the next start. This can obviously put you in a vicious loop if you're not aware of what it's trying to do.
Since the Safe Mode disc repair is faceless, you don't get any immediate feedback as to any errors being turned up. It's better to follow cosmichobo's advice and use the OS X Install disc to run Disk Utility from the Installer menu; that will let you see what's going on. Note that if any errors are reported repaired by Disk Utility/Repair Disk, you should immediately run it again --- it's possible for one disc error to mask others.
Another option would be to boot the Mac into single user mode and use the Unix file system check utility fsck (if you're not adverse to using the Unix command line prompt). Refer to Using Disk Utility and fsck for detailed instructions.

Magic trackpad is stuck shut and there's corrosion. How can I get it opened, or am I out of luck?

I went to change the batteries and noticed corrosion. I can't even get the batteries out. I bought it about a year ago. Will any of this be covered by Apple, and is there a good work-around to get the battery compartment open, or am I out of luck?

IMHO you are out of luck. Even if it opened, the corrosion has probably damaged the device.

I can't get firefox to open at all. I can't get it open to do anything on the firefox window such as open it in the safe mode.

A small screen tells me firefox was shutdown and windows was looking for a solution. I deleted Firefox and downloaded another Firefox program and installed it. The same thing happened. What do I do. Windows said it could be a DEP problem. I have no idea what that is. I can open Windows Explorer and use but I don't really like it. Help!!!

I can't get "Always open in list view" to stick.

No matter how many times I click "Always open in list view" for the folder, it continues to open up in icon view. Help please.
I used to think that I had this problem because I was working mainly off an external drive. But, this folder is on my internal drive. Only thing that I think might affect it is that I am using Dropbox and this is one of the folders that is synced using that service.

Is there a Dock Icon that was created for your Printer? If so, open it and look at the list to be printed and delete the extras.

Are you saying that you bought a used or second hand Mac? In North America an open box Mac usually refers to a display model used in a store.
There is mixed info on this issue. Some folks in the US have called Apple Care and requested that the iLife apps prebundled with this specific Mac be released from original owner's Apple ID so the new owner can Accept the apps into their Apple ID, with success. Folks in Europe report that when making the same request of Apple Care they are met with resistance and are unsuccessful.

The sad thing is that if Apple Care will not release the apps, then the owner of a second hand Mac cannot even purchaase the apps on their Mac! To buy the apps with their own account, they would need to find an older Mac running at least OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with a Mac App Store (MAS), that also has never had the MAS versions of the iLife apps installed on it.

You would be better off contacting the site you downloaded the screensavers from. You may need to run a setup file to install the screensavers. The site you downloaded them from should be able to confirm what you need to do.
