Can't get iTunes "Home Sharing" to work...

Before we switched to FIOS, we had Comcast and the Home Sharing on iTunes worked fine.  Now, some setting must be different because I can't get the libraries from 2 different computers to "talk" to each other.  I have all the settings in iTunes correct, but each doesn't "show up" on the other's network.
Any suggestions?

Log into the router and select the Advanced settings.  There's a item to dump the router configuration on that screen -- it'll download a file to your PC-- you can just open it with Notepad is it's just a text file.

Well, if your Home button is broken, you won't be able to reset your phone, and if the Sleep/Wake button won't turn your phone on, it's a trip to the Apple store.

The helpfulness of answers is limited by the details provided.  Just saying it does not work, or I got an error does not provide much to go on.  How is it not working?  What happens or does not happen?  Is an error returned?  If so what error.  Are you sure you are logging in with your home sharing ID?  It is not the same as your Apple ID or iCloud ID.

  • Can't get any file sharing to work

I have 10.6.2 installed on a mac pro and mac book pro, and I can't share anything between them. Both have file sharing turned on, both have these exceptions allowing incoming connections with the built in firewall. Not only can I not mount or connect to the other computer through file sharing, the itunes home sharing doesn't work, and the iphoto sharing doesn't work either.
Since nothing seems to work, it makes me think the router has something to do with it. I am using the Verizon FiOS Actiontec router. I would appreciate any help in finally getting my home network of 3 macs actually working together.

    UPDATE:
i restored my factory router settings, and rebooted the router, and now the mac pro sees the laptop, but not vice versa. connecting mac pro to laptop worked one time, then failed after that. and itunes home sharing still doesn't work.

  • ITune home sharing stops working if I enalbe WIFI sync for my iPad

I am using iTune 11.2.0.115 (64bit) on win 7 fully updated to May 28, 2014 win-updates.  After upgrading to latest itune 11.2.0.115,  I have noticed when I enable "Sync over WIFI" in my iTune for my iPad or iPhone,  the iTune home sharing icon just disappers from left side panel and will not share no matter what steps I take.  I have read and followed all the steps for trouble shooting home-sharing for itune.  Such as re-install, disable ip6 etc...
I share my media out of a win 7 and I have another win 7, Mac, apple TV, ipad and iphone which they do not see my main libirary until I un-check the sync over wifi.  However Mac and the Other win 7 can see each other's shared library.
I can re-produce this problem each and every time.
    thx

  • Why can't I get my itunes Home Sharing to work

Ok, So here is the deal. My iTunes is the most current version 11.0.2. I'm trying to use the Apple Remote apple and the itunes library on my laptop will apear, but my desktop wont. I looked into a problem that had occured to me before with my laptop and foud that it isn't the firewall situation with Bonjour. My desktop wont Home Share, even though it says its on. I realized this because, the share tab wont even apear in my library on my Desktop. My desktop library will not appear in the shared libraries on my laptop. This means that its a problem with my iTunes on the Desktop. I attempted unistalling and reinstalling iTunes in on my Desktop and still my Home Sharing will not work properly. I need help determining the problem and fixing it.

I am afraid, the HP 5610 (which is in your profile) uses LIDIL (Lightweight Imaging Device Interface Language).
LIDIL is designed to lower the cost of the printer hardware and shift all the processing normally done on the printer onto the host computer, and hence, it requires a direct USB connection, it will not work directly over the network.
The only way to share the HP 5610 is to connect it directly to a host computer and use the printer sharing function within the OS.

  • How do I get iTunes Home Sharing to be seen on my PS3?

I have already contacted Sony's PS3 support online chat and they assisted me with getting it all set-up on their end, but now I need to get it to work from my iTunes' end.
I have enabled Home Sharing in my iTunes desktop software, it stated it was enabled just fine; but when I look to see how to authorize my PS3 as an aditional machine allowed to have access to my media, I cannot seem to find a way to do this.
Is there any way to set this up, anyone? Or am I at a loss? If there is no way, can anyone help direct me on where I can go to listen to my iTunes music (possibly by adding a share to the iTunes Music folder on my PC) on my PS3?

    Hello,
First try the Five R's. The Five R's are the five things to first do if your iPod is having issues.
I especially suggest Resetting, Restoring, and Reinstalling iTunes.
Make sure your iTunes program is upgraded. Get the latest version here:
    iTunes - Download iTunes
If you have issues installing iTunes' latest updates, go here:
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or Quicktime software in Windows
Try out the suggestions and solutions in these Apple Support links:
    Using iPod with multiple computers
iPod shows up in Windows, but not in iTunes
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes for Windows
Try those articles. Post back, so I can try to help if those things above didn't.

  • ITunes Home Sharing not working

I have an Apple TV purchased around a year ago and have the latest software update installed. I also have two Windows machines, one running Windows 7 64bit, and the other running Windows XP SP3 - both with the latest iTunes software version and Bonjour software.
Before I am told to "Buy a Mac", I already own one of those as well...an old PowerMac G5 tower.
iTunes on both the Windows machines appears to be missing some code somewhere concerning Home Sharing services.
To start off with, when I enter the Preferences panel, under the Sharing tab, it does not give me the option to "Look for Shared Libraries". Also the majority of the time (when opened) the panel does not give the standard "OK" and "CANCEL" buttons on the bottom of the window, even after a setting is changed.
Next, I have ensured that both machines, and the AppleTV are logged on to the same Apple ID account for Home Sharing.
The iTunes main windows does not show the Home Sharing option from the left hand menu bar of consisting of Devices, iTunes Store, and Music Library.
I was hoping that today's download of the latest update for iTunes would have fixed this problem, alas, it did not...
The last time my Home Sharing worked the way it should was in in my previous residence when I had my PowerMac G5 as the host to my Music Library. This same Windows XP machine was able to see the shared library, as well as the Apple TV. This was so long ago, I could not tell you what version of iTunes I was running then...
Any ideas, thoughts? Unfortunately I am now in a different state than my PowerMac, so I am unable to use it for troubleshooting purposes...
Just for the **** of it, I am completely restoring my Apple TV's settings in the hope that somehow this fixes the issue...however even I am doubtful that this will help the problem of the two computers not being able to share libraries with one another... -Dewyz1100

Problem solved, however not the way I would have preferred...
Turns out that I needed to disconnect the hardwired ethernet connection between my router and the Apple TV.
I my setup consisted of a traditional hardwired Linksys router, and a matching Linksys access point.
Both my computers were on the wireless network setup by the access point, and were able to communicate between each other just fine.
However, for whatever reason neither one would communicate with the AppleTV while it was hardwired to the router. Once I unplugged it, and assigned it to the same wireless network as the computers were on, it was able to see both computers without any problems...
Not too upset, seeing as how the AppleTV is only about a foot from the access point and router - so there are no signal strength issues. However, I would have preferred to keep the AppleTV on the hardwired connection...
Hope this comes in handy for anyone else with this problem...

  • Can't stream iTunes (Home Sharing) to iPhone 6

I have a shiny new iPhone 6 64 GB, and iTunes 12.0.1 running on a Win 8.1 box.  I'm trying to connect my iPhone to my iTunes library via Home Sharing in the Music app.  My iTunes library appears in the list of shared libraries, but the app stalls when I try to connect to this share.  The pinwheel/progress indicator gets to about 10-50% (it varies widely) before it stops altogether.
I've tried disabling Windows Firewall and Windows Defender, but neither make a difference.  Is there a router setting I need to tweak?  Is there a library size limitation?  The library I'm trying to stream from is about 350 GB.
    Thanks,
    P

  • I cannot get my home sharing to work with my new PC. I have tried all suggestions from the manuels. Can anyone help?

i cannot get my homesharing to work with my new PC. Any ideas besides the ones in the manuel

Yes, I do think it is no longer using PPPoE.. but the IP is configured to the fibre to ethenet or vdsl port.
You might need to ring the ISP and get them to give you details.
Anyway it is easy to try.. plug the Extreme WAN port to the new modem and test with dhpc. Check that you get a public not private IP address.

  • After iTunes 7 update can't get itunes to open or work

OK...i recently updated to iTunes 7...and seemed to work fine then when i started up my computer today and tried to open up iTunes i got the message:
"The iTunes Library.itl file cannot be found or created. The Default location for this file is in the "iTunes" Folder in the "My Music" folder."
So now i can't open up iTunes and when i keep trying to open it i get that message? Is there any way to get the old version back without losing any data? Or is there any way to fix this so i can get my itunes working properly again?

Follow these steps for that one:
    Recreating the iTunes Library file
    Follow these steps:
    1) Quit iTunes.
    2) Locate your iTunes folder.
For Mac OS X the iTunes folder is stored in one of the following locations:
    /Users/username/Music
    /Users/username/Documents
Note: You may need to check both locations.
For Microsoft Windows the iTunes folder is stored in
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
    3) Open your iTunes folder.
    4) Drag the iTunes Music Library.xml to the Desktop
    5) Drag the following file from your iTunes folder to the Trash:
Mac OS X: "iTunes Library" (in versions of iTunes prior to 4.9 this was called "iTunes 4 Music Library").
Microsoft Windows: "iTunes Library.itl" (in versions of iTunes prior to 4.9 this was called "iTunes 4 Music Library.itl")
    6) Open iTunes.
    7) From the File menu, choose Import.
Tip: Do not add any music into iTunes at this point.
    8) Navigate to the iTunes Music Library.xml file on the Desktop.
    Click Choose.
