Can't get itunes to connect to airport express via air tunes

Hi,
I just bought and installed an airport express (for windows 7) everything is now connected but i can't get itunes to recognize my airport express via air tunes. I can see the multiple speakers in itunes, but when i click on it to connect to airport it just comes up with connecting, loads for about a minute then minimizes without connecting.
Has anyone else experienced this? How can i get this to work?

You've probaby solved this by now, but if not... When upgrading itunes on a Vista or Windows 7 machine with Windows Firewall running for some reason Bonjour can't get through the firewall and thus Airplay does not work. Not good when all your Hi-fi's are connected via airport express!
I found to resolve the issue you have to install an older version of Bonjour. It won't work if you try to do this straight from Apple.  So try this...
1. Firstly install and older version of itunes from the web (say version 10.1) Try www.oldapps.com
2. Then find the Bonjour file in program files
3. Cut and paste it to your desktop with its contents
4. Uninstall itunes and Bonjour via your control panel (the desktop file of Bonjour you moved will still be there).
5. Install your new version of itunes, say version 10.5, from the apple website.
6. Before opening it go to program files and cut the (newly installed) Bonjour file and paste it somewhere different to the desktop (you can't just delete it). It does not matter where you won't be needing it.
7. Now Cut and paste the old version of Bonjour you stuck on the desktop in Program files in place of the one you just moved.
8. Hey presto, Airplay, Windows firewall and your Airport Express' should all get on again.
Hope this works...

  • Question re AEBS Connected to Airport Express via Ethernet

If I have an AEBS that is being used to extend the range of my wireless network, if I connect an Airport Express via Ethernet to this AEBS for purposes of itunes airtunes will this work and will the wireless network remain wireless-n?

    Yes, it will.
You also have the option of (a) completely turning off the radio on the Airport Express or (b) leaving it on, and using it to create a b/g point of access to your LAN thus allowing you to run the AEBSn in n-only mode for your n-capable wireless clients.

  • Connecting Two Airport Express Via Ethernet

I have a unique situation in which I would like to connect two airport express via ethernet. Here is the situation: I can connect the first AX directly to the internet and set up a WDS for the second AX. Unfortunately, the second AX signal does not reach where I need it to go. I can run an ethernet cable between the two. Is this setting valid for a WDS? Or does the WDS have to be wireless? If I can set up the WDS using an ethernet, will the relay AX broadcast the internet wirelessly then?
Are there any specific settings I should know about?
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks in advance,
    Debbie

I currently have an old snow basestation at this location. Can I plug an ethernet cable into it and connect it to the AX?
    Yes that will work.
My understanding was that the older basestation could not do this?
I think you have it confused with extending a network wirelessly. That is not possible with the snow AirPort base station (ABS).

  • AirPort Express with Air Tunes and wired router

Do any of you using AirPort Express with Air Tunes as a base station have it connected to a wired router, just as an added precaution?
    thanks,
    --h

As far as I know, AirPort Express w/tunes has a firewall, but a given router may offer more protection options than just a firewall. I'm wondering about security on the wired side of the connection, not the wireless side.

  • Connecting to Airport Express via Ethernet Cable

    Dear Apple Support Community,
My setup at home is such that all my devices are in such close proximity to the Airport Express, and therefore I connect everything to the Airport Express via ethernet cables (NAS, Apple TV, PS 3).
The final step in my network setup would be to connect my Macbook to the Airport Express to connect to the internet using the Ethernet Cables, instead of using the wireless connection - because my Macbook is positioned right next to the Airport Express.
However, I am struggling to get the Macbook to connect to the Internet via the Ethernet Cable through the airport express. Is there a special way to set this up if this can be done. I know Wireless would be the answer, but the problem is, when I download movies etc, I write the files directly onto the NAS which happens a lot quicker than doing so via WiFi.
I hope the above question makes sense.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
    Regards
    ST

Hello Brian Hunt1. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I have an old PowerBook G3 and I do not have a wireless card for it. My plan was to connect it, via Ethernet cable to my airport express which is on my home wireless network (DSL to Mac Mini to AirPort Express via built-in AirPort).
Unfortunately, the network configuration your describing, where you would use OS X's Internet Sharing feature to share the Mac Mini's wired Internet connection wirelessly with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), won't work.
If I cannot connect my laptop this way, could anyone suggest a wireless card that is compatible with this slightly antiquated, yet very useful machine?
Only the "Pismo" PowerBook G3 is capable of using the original AirPort card. If you have this model, then the following DIY instructions will show you how to install it.
If this isn't your model, then check out the following vendor offerings:
    o QuickerTek
    o hField Technologies' Wi-Fire

  • Can't get iTunes to play through Airport....

On my G5, when I am in iTunes and click to play music through the Base Station, a bar comes up "Connecting to Base Station" but it never connects. I have waited up to 5 minutes with no results.
I am guessing this is in the G5 because when I do the same process from my iBook it works fine.
I have looked in the help pages and found nothing that fixes this ...
ANY TIPS would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

  • ITunes not connecting to Airport Express

Trying to play music through remote speakers. Get an iTunes error message stating remote speakers can't be found. The airport express is set up properly, and worked great for months. Now its not letting me play any music. The express is recognized in the airport utility, and I am pretty sure its set up right. Running through a wireless system on the airport extreme. Any help would be appreciated.

Temporarily, plug a pair of headphones into the AirPort Express and listen to them to see if you can hear an audio signal. If you can, the AirPort Express is working fine and the problem is most likely in your connecting cable between the Express and your stereo.
If you hear no sound in the headphones, then you may have a problem with the AirPort Express or the connection between your wireless router and the AirPort Express. Position the Express close to the wireless router and use the headphones again to see if you pickup a signal at that location. If you do, then move the Express further away and test again, etc.

  • ITUNES Cannot Connect to Airport Express

I have been using an Airport Express for almost 2 years on my existing Windows XP wireless netwoek to stream music from iTunes to my home stereo. I recently changed to an "N" type WAP. Ever since, I have had problems getting the Airport to work. After resetting it several times I was able to get into the the set-up menu. The only thing I did was set a static IP of 192.168.2.105. I did not change the default password. I now have a green light, but when I select Airport from iTUNES it tries to connect, but fails with no error message. I can see the Airport from both the Express Assistant and the Admin Utility, but when I try to configure it ask for my password. When I enter the default password "public" I get a "bad param" error on the Expert Assitant and a "6753" error from Admin Utility. Does anyone have a suggestion?......[email protected]

Clearly as one reads down the list of complaints about iTunes 10, we are far from alone with our headaches concerning Airport devices, whether a Mac platform or PC (windows). I have stability issues with mine (cuts out from time to time), and it has nothing to do with the usual typical iTunes stalls.
When I turn iTunes on for the first time, though my device is visible in drop down, and I have full bars on icon, I usually have to go through several repeat operations and work arounds just to get the computer to speak to the device again. Once I finally connect, there are intermittent interruptions, some for mere seconds, some for a minute or more. Nothing indicates there is a problem on the iTunes screen - and the music (most telling) is playing uninterrupted from my office speakers (plugged in directly to computer). I tried re-booting Airport and also tried pushing in the little button with a paper clip to "re-set" to factory. Nothing helped. It's a pain getting it to reconnect and not satisfying dealing with the interruptions out in the living room. Apple is AWOl on this, and this seems more typical than not, unfortunately. For what we pay (extra) for their equipment and services (I'm boycotting the $1.29 music files, by the way, and any PAID upgrade for iTunes - join me?), you'd think we'd get 1st rate service. I will give high marks to techs that deal with me via email, however, on various issues, but on this one, they claim it's not their area of concern (iTunes techs.). Good luck one and all.

  • How can I get my time capsule and airport express (as a network extension) working properly together?

    Hi,
I bought a time capsule a while back and connected it to my modem, and it seems to be backing up my hard drives but I can't tell if I'm getting my wireless signal from my time capsule or from the modem itself, which used to before I bought the time capsule.
It's bugging me because I'm trying to get my airport express to work as an extension to my network, and airport utility half the time can't pick up the express. I heard that it will only work of the time capsule is working as the base station, and I'm not 100% sure this is the case.
Also, how far can the airport express be from my time capsule for it to be picked up? I tried resetting it which helped to start with, but when I was setting it up to extend my network it just told me that there was an error and to try again, which I did with the same result.
Any advice would be much appreciated!
    Cheers

Always do setups with ethernet.. setting up wireless via wireless is like cutting off the branch you are sitting on.
You do not need the TC in the network to do the setup.
Plug it by itself into the computer. Same with AE. But do each separately.
Give the TC a different wireless name.. like TC.. then you will know the TC wireless is separate and different to the main modem router. Simply allow it to be extended.
Plug it back into the main modem.
Now do the AE.. set it to extend the wireless of the TC.
When you do this check the signal level. The airport utility v5 has a full diagnostic of wireless client levels.. do not use v6 utility.. it is useless. The AE is placed somewhere in between the TC and the clients you want to connect.. it has to get decent signal itself to extend wireless. And there is no way we can tell you how far apart.. pick the half way point.. around about and suck and see. If it doesn't work move closer to the TC.
Count the walls the signal is going through.. about 15% signal loss for each one.. if angle is acute 20%.. floors are worse.. they might be 20-25%..

  • Can't get to manual setup in Airport Express

Just installed a Linksys e2000 router, replaced Linksys WRT54g router. Airport Express worked fine on old router. I'm trying to connect to an existing wireless network (Linksys e2000). I open Airport Utility (v5.5.1) and it immediately tries to detect a network, returns a message saying Airport Utility was unable to find any Airport wireless devices. I cannot get to the manual setup, they are ghosted out. Using Airfoil 2.7.8.0. Light keeps flashing amber on the Airport Express. How can I get to the manual setup so I can changes settings for the the new router?

I wanted to use my Linksys e2000 as the router, not the Apple Express. I fixed this by uninstalling the Airport software and re-installing it. On the Linksys e2000 router, the security must be set to WPA/WPA2 Mixed Mode or other laptops won't be able to connect, found this out by trying to connect another laptop that required some type of security in order to join a wireless network. Here's what I did:
    Remove existing Airport software first.
Set security settings in Linksys e2000.
    Reset the Airport Express.
Install the Airport software (I did this from CD provided when I bought it a year ago). System will prompt you to update the software from the Apple site, let it update.
Open Airport Utilities and select wireless network to join, you'll need the password for the wireless network.
This worked for me and now both laptops and Express are working.

  • Getting a partial connection with airport express

I recently moved my macbook and airport express to college. My computer connects fine to the base station with full bars. However, I can't open any web browsers. What's really strange is that I can still connect to Adium. Any idea why or what I can do about it?

I'm getting a message that the built in ethernet cable isn't connected. When I connect my DSL modem directly to the computer, everything works fine. My secondary machine see's the network but has "trouble" connecting. I've done the hard reset of the base station but still with the same resutls. I think my air port is on it's last legs.
I've decided to chuck it all and ordered a 2Wire 2700HG.

  • Playstation 3 can't get on wifi with new Airport Express

Hi guys. I got the new Airport Express that was released a few days ago. My Mac and other iDevices all connect fine but for whatever reason my PS3 has issues resolving an IP address or whatever. At first I thought I'd solved it by turning off the only DHCP Reservation I had on (for my iMac) but the next day it's not connecting again.
Unfortunately I'm not much of a networking whiz.
I have it set to DHCP (not Static or PPoE) And I'm not sure what else to share but I'd really like to solve this.
It connected once or twice in attempts so I know neither the Airport Express Base Station nor the Ps3 is broken.
    Just totally stumped here. :(

As an update, I noticed that the brief moments when my PS3 would attempt to connect, I would see another IP on my Airport Express Base Station. 10.0.1.3
So, wanting to try something out, I went into DHCP reservations on my AEBS and added a DHCP reservation for 10.0.1.3 and assigned my PS3's MAC address to it. I was able to connect instantly.
However, I've been connected briefly before, so only time will tell if it sticks. At this point I don't consider my situation resolved. Clearly my inability to connect has something to do with IP addresses and maybe the 'dynamic' one the PS3 sometimes gets assigned by the AEBS is something one of my other devices is already blocking or using?
I'm not a whiz at this stuff, so if anyone has any insights as to a good way to set up DHCP reservations so that everything works, I'm all ears.
Would it be wise to take the iMac, AppleTV, 2 iPads, and 2 iPhones and assign them ALL different DHCP reservations so that no one steps on anyone else's toes, so to speak?

  • Linking Airtunes to speakers connected to Airport Express via wireless net

    G'day
I run a Windows 7 as my main home system. It hosts my large iTunes library which I am trying to share across audio systems in the house.
I run an AppleTV off my main audio system, this is linked wirelessly through my primary modem router (which happens to be a d-link. This gives me the same audio in the office and the lounge room.
I want to add in the hi-fi in the bedroom and have recently bought an Airport Express to achieve this.
I can't seem to work out how to link the Airport Express to the wi-fi network to achieve this sharing.
Can I do this? Or do I need to add either another Airport Express off the main modem router or the main PC which hosts my iTunes library?
I've searched high and low for answers to this online and have come up with zero. Any tips or guidance would be greatly appreciated
    Cheers

    Thanks Colin21 - much appreciated
In the end I connected another Mac to it and set it up that way.
I had assumed that I could configure it wirelessly - but it seems I just had to cable connect to it in the first instance and then leave it to run wirelessly after that
    Cheers and thanks again

  • I want to connect an Airport Express via WiFi to my internet connection and then connect its LAN port to the WAN port of a Time Capsule. Will then any device connected to the time capsule wirelessly be also connected to the internet?

Background is I can't hook up my time capsule directly to my internet connection via network cable. I tried to extend the network via Wifi, but that did not work. At the moment I have two wireless networks, one with internet connection and another one with my time capsule. So to use time machine I have to change my network all the time.
Can I buy an Airport Express, use is as a client to my internet connection wifi and provide that connection via network cable to my time capsule and all it's wifi clients?

The AirPort Express will connect to your existing wireless network if the network is using WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security settings.
So, it can join the network as a client and then provide an Ethernet signal to your Time Capsule.
Be sure to configure the Time Capsule to operate in Bridge Mode so that it will be operating on the same network.
