Can't get Java to work

Does anybody else have any issues getting Java to work in Safari 3 for Windows?
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

Same here. I just get a window with a exclamation point infront of the Java Mug icon.
Without Java working, I can't really use Safari under Windows (I use Java for stock market monitoring, etc).
Hopefully I can get them working, otherwise it's back to Firefox when I'm running windows (still Safari in Mac OS X though )

  • Can't get Java to work in IE 6!

    I downloaded and installed the file jre-1_5_0_01-windows-i586-p-iftw.exe and couldn't get java to work on websites that used it. So I tried to install it again and got the message "You already have this version of the JRE installed. Please uninstall the product through your add/remove programs utility before reinstalling." followed by "The Wizard was interrupted before J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 1 could be completely installed...".
    So I went into Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs --> J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 1. I clicked to remove the program and eventually got the message "Fatal error during installation." Then I tried going into Control Panel and click the Java coffee mug icon. Nothing happened when I did that -- no Java console/panel or anything.
    So basically I can't get it to work and now I can't even remove it. In Internet Explorer --> Tools --> Internet Options --> Advanced I have the box checked beside Use JRE 1.5.0_01 for <applet> (requires restart). But when I go to Tools --> Sun Java Console, nothing happens.
    Can anyone help me out???

    Welcome to the wonderful world of Windows...
    In your user folder (c:\documents and settings\somewhere in there) you will find a java folder. Try removing that and then reinstalling the JRE through the java.com website.

  • I can't get Java to work

    Hi,
    I am running OSX version 10.7.5 and safari 6.0.2 (7536.26.17).
    It is a clean install onto a new drive.
    I want to be able to use Java but cannot get it to work.
    I have made sure that safari is running in 64 bit mode and that Java is enabled in the safari preferences.
    I have installed Java 7 update 15 which has completed successfully but java does not work even after reloading/restarting safari.
    If I visit a java test page, I get the message that i have had a plug in failure.
    I have spent quite a time reading about this on the internet but cannot see how to get safari and Java to play nice!
    Any help would be gratefuly received.
    Thanks

    Don't know what else to tell you. I've both and show these when running the appropriate command in the Terminal:

  • Can't get Java to work on Safari Windows

    Have downloaded latest Java for Windows, but doesn't work with Safari. Am running windows XP. Any help?

    I'm not wrong. Java in Safari does not work for me and, judging by the posts in this forum, for the vast majority of Safari users on Windows. Replying "it works fine for me" is not a helpful response.
    Just to humour you I tried the link in your post and this was the result:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/42042480@N00/692627803/
    I get the same result for all Java applets with Safari. They all work fine in IE7 and FF2. And for all those telling me to download the plugin, if you had bothered to read my earlier post you would know that I have downloaded the plugin, which is no more than the latest JRE from Sun.

  • How can one get java to work with SnowLeopard and FF13

    SInce the install of the most recent Java update (9)  for SnowLeopard (10.6.8) Firefox 13 simply advises that there is no plugin installed.  The behavior the update indicates will take place (where the web page provides the option to enable the plugin) simply has never presented itself. At this point, java is simply no longer available on a Mac running SNowLeopard and using Firefox.  Is there a solution to this other than upgrading to Lion?

    Yes. However, do note that FF is only on the machine for testing, I don't use it, preferring Safari. Any further issues with FF are best answered at http://support.mozilla.org/

  • Can't get EM to work on Oracle 10.2.0.5 running on Windows 2008 R2 64 bit

    Hi
    Could anyone help me?
    I have tried many things and tried lots of htings other forums have suggested but I can't get EM to work.
    The dbconsole windows services hang on startup, if I do a emctl start dbconsole after setting my sid it returns 3 lines of ......., hangs and then gives an error of 1.
    I have dropped and re-created the repository, I can now login to EM on the correct HTTP port listed in my portlist.ini. But its as though it can't see the instance, it shows a status of pending and a java error of java.lang.Exception: Exception in sending Request :: null at the database homepage.
    The log file for EMCA shows the same error to do with not finding files i the OCJJ directory, but I can browse and see all the files through Windows. Coudl this be some java issue? I have the latest versio of Java installed and have tried reinstalling EM using the OUI.
    The error that appears in the log file is listed below, its the same error repeated but referrs to differan't files in the same DIR.
    \OC4J_DBConsole_.HOSTNAME_SID\config\jms.xml in searching for tag jms-server with attribute port

  • I just can't get it to work  :-(

    I was given this code and found another only slightly different. I've seen them both working but when I try to put it on my page, it doesn't matter what I do, I can't get either to work. The problem is not with the code but with the service I'm going through (addr.com). If anyone is willing to help me figure this out through email, I would be very appreciative.
    <APPLET CODE=PoolMenu WIDTH=570 HEIGHT=65>

    <param name=image value=images/logo.gif>
    </applet>
    [email protected]

    images/logo.gif does exist at
    www.holidaysportsinc.com/images/logo.gif
    The PoolMenu.class is hard to explain. They have
    given me this address to view their test servlets -
    http://holidaysportsinc.com/servlets/TestServlet
    -- which reveals that they don't know much about what you are doing...
    First you have an applet which is run on the client. Then they give you a servlet container, which is used to run server side application written in Java.
    Something's not right here...
    My .class file is placed into the servlets/holidays
    folder. This is where they told me I had to upload my
    own java/class files but I can't seem to get to it.
    By going to this address -
    http://holidaysportsinc.com/servlets/holidays/PoolMenu
    class
    I get a "The requested URL /servlets/holidays was not
    found on this server."Is it there, then?
    I've even tried putting it into just the servlets
    folder but I get the same message.It shouldn't make any difference where the class file is, if you set the codebase and code attributes properly in th html.
    Just slap it somewhere on the server and give the path to it in codebase. Like if you have the .class in /foo/bar/Baz.class codebase should be "/foo/bar/" - and code "Baz".
    >
    I've tried writing them about it and they recommended
    I come here for further help because they don't deal
    directly with the java/class files, they only supply
    the server to do it on. I am at a loss.And so are they :)

Any reply here will be very appreciated, or to my e mail [email protected] Thank you, Cindy

    There are plenty of people here that can and will help, but you need to tell us what the problem is (details, error messages, code samples, etc)
    Here's a general blurb, post back it it doesn't help.
    This may duplicate some of what you've already done, if so fine. But please verify you've done exactly what is written or know why you shouldn't before proceeding. You may want to print these instructions before continuing.
    Also note that this applies to the currrent java version installed on "standard" windows systems, only.
    To download the current version of Java, go here:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
    and click on the word DOWNLOAD in the column labeled SDK in this line: Windows Offline installation (info)
    After downloading, click on this page of installation instructions and read through #6:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/install-windows.html
    Install the software according to the preceeding instructions. If you encounter
    problems, see the section "Troubleshooting the Installation" in the installation instructions.
    Below is a Helloworld program, copy and paste it into your editor and save it as "HelloWorld.java" Use capitalization, Java is case-sensitive. If you're using Notepad, quote the name when saving, otherwise Notepad adds ".txt" to the name. Go to DOS/command window and check that you've got the file where you want it and that it's named correctly.
    -------save this program as HelloWorld.java--------
    public class HelloWorld {
    public static void main (String[] args) {
    System.out.println("Hello World!");
    In the same directory as HelloWorld.java, enter "javac" - the program should print out a list of options, if not, set your PATH - see below.
    In the same directory as HelloWorld.java, enter "javac HelloWorld.java" and the javac compiler will create HelloWorld.class. If it was successful it will not give any messages. Check that the file is created.
    In the same directory as HelloWorld.java, enter "java -classpath . HelloWorld" with the spaces and the period. The program will run. If it doesn't, recheck that you followed the instructions.
    Here is additional information:
    The Windows path is a set of pointers that Windows uses to locate programs that you execute, like javac.exe and java.exe. This setting is explained here:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/install-windows.html - 5. Update the PATH variable
    (you should have already done this as part of the Java installation)
    The CLASSPATH is another set of pointers that is used by Java to find the files that you create and want compiled and/or run. This setting is explained here:
    Setting the Classpath:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/tooldocs/windows/classpath.html
    [NOTE: always start your classpath with ".;" which means the current directory. See my classpath, below]
    How Classes are Found:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/tooldocs/findingclasses.html

  • I can't get java to run, why?

    I have Java installed, correctly I think, and I can't get it to work. I've checked the issues that were mentioned on the java site and still nothing. I don't know why it doesn't work or more importantly how to fix it. Any ideas on what I can do?
    Thanks

    Alright, I made a mistake that I should have not done. I should have stepped back and reread my post to see how it sounded. Being that I tried to be kind and simplify what I did for easier reading I didn?t realize that I left out too many things so it fell way short of usefully.
    We have a new machine here that we just installed Java on and it didn?t work either. This led me to think it is our router that is causing the problem. I gave that a quick test by taking the router out and Java worked on the new machine. Put the router back and the Verify Java page worked, but when going to another Java site it wouldn?t work. To me it sounds as if there is a setting in our router that is blocking something. We don?t know too much about routers so I?m not sure if we?ll ever figure that out. Is there anyone out here that could give us a few hints on what to look for in our router config. We are using a Cisco router.
