Can't get Macbook Pro 2,1 to 64-bit mode

I'm running a late 2006 macbook pro with an intel core 2 duo 2.33 mhz and I was wondering if there is anyone that knows if there's a way to get it to boot in 64-bit mode. Thanks.

No 64 bit apps will run on the 32-bit kernel, but running 64-bit apps on the 64-bit kernel does not require start up to the 64-bit kernel. And, only some 32-bit apps will run on the 64-bit kernel.
That's not quite correct.
32-bit and 64-bit applications will run on either kernel.
However 32-bit kernel extensions will only run on the 32-bit kernel, and 64-bit kernel extensions will only run on a 64-bit kernel.
That's why Apple is currently defaulting to booting to the 32-bit kernel; most non-Apple kernel extensions have not yet been made available in 64-bit form for SL.

  • Can not get  MacBook Pro 10.7.2 connected to Panasonic LCD projector to work

Any suggestions on how to get MacBook Pro 10.7.2 working with a LCD Panasonic Projector Model # PT-LB10NTU?

    Thanks for the replys.
After spending an hour plus, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and still not able to print, my husband, sits down, plugs in an ethernet cable, reinstalls the printer with the ip, and it prints. !!! I'd already done that , but that was before I deleted the preferences and installed the Gutenprint driver. I think it was the new Gutenprint driver that did it.

  • Can't Get MacBook Pro and Mac Pro to Network

I have a MacBook Pro (2008 - 2.5 Ghz. Core 2 Duo with 4 Gb of RAM running OS X 10.6.7) that I have been connecting to my Mac Pro (2005 - 2 2.66 Ghz Xeon with 20 Gb of RAM running OS X 10.6.7) through an Ethernet switch on my school's network. This has worked without a hitch for years, but when I upgraded to 10.6.7 recently, the MacBook and Mac Pro fail to network. On the MacBook Pro, the Mac Pro's icon doesn't show in the shared area, and on the Mac Pro, I can see the icon for the MacBook Pro, but when I click on the icon to connect, I get the message that "Connection Failed There was an error connecting to the server (name of my MacBook Pro). Check the server name or IP address, and then try again." I have tried a direct connect using the "Connect to Server" under the Go menu on both machines, using their IP addresses, but no luck. Is there something I need to re-set to get these two to talk again? I have other Macs on the same network that my MacBook and my Mac Pro can see, and both machines can connect to them. They just can't connect to each other.
Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have on  how to fix this.

I fixed the problem by re-setting the default values for my VirusBarrier X6 anti-virus program.

  • Can't get MacBook Pro to recognize Motorola H500 Bluetooth headset

    Hello all,
I am trying to get my MacBook Pro to recognize a Motorola H500 Bluetooth headset. Bluetooth is ON and "discoverable" on my mac. When I go to system preferences and click "bluetooth", then "devices", the headset won't show up (it is turned ON). I tried clicking "Set up new device..." and won't work either.
Any tips on how i can make this work?
    Thanks a lot!

You need to put the H500 into discoverable mode:
    turn it off
hold "call button" for 5 seconds or until the sold blue circle light appears
now go do the bluetooth set up on your Mac....your H500 will show up and then just click thru continue....

  • Can't get MacBook Pro to restart

Last night I ran my battery down to recalibrate. The power drained, I let it sleep overnight, and this morning I plugged the MagSafe back in to recharge the battery. The light shows green instead of amber, as if the battery is fully charged. I left it plugged in for a little bit and then tried to restart the MacBook Pro and it won't do anything.
Any suggestions as to what I can do to get back up and running?
    Thanks!

Have you tried removing the battery all together and then tried restarting? Keep in the mind the processor will run and half-speed without the battery installed but hopefully you should be able to restart and use your Mac.
    Good luck.

  • How can I get MacBook Pro trackpad to recognize 4 finger tap as app switcher?

On my Bluetooth trackpad I have it configured so that a 4 finger tap is the app switcher.
I want to configure the trackpad on my new macBook Pro to do the same, so that when I am away from my desk and using only the laptop I can have a 4 finger tap be the gateway to an app switcher.
Do I need to download some new capabilities to enable this 4 finger tap?
The MBP trackpad does not seem to accept any 4 finger tap commands.

  • I can't get Macbook Pro DVD drive to read my Windows 7 upgrade disk.

I have a 15" Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6.8.  I have been trying to upgrade the OS in my VMWare Virtual Machine from XP to Windows 7.  However, when I insert the upgrade disk, it just spins for a few minutes and then tells me the disk is a blank disk.  I  tried it with the drive tied to the VM XP OS, but that did not work and got the same result.  I then tried the disk in a PC I have and it seems to work fine there.  Also, I have tried other disks in my Mac drive (e.g. DVD movies) and they seem to work as well.  I am not quite sure where the problem is.  Any ideas?

  • Can I get Snow Leopard to run in 64-bit mode? (Black MacBook - Early 2008)

I have a Black Macbook (macbook4,1) with the latest firmare and OSX 10.6.4
I've tried holding "6" and "4" on bootup, and I can't get SL into true 64-bit mode. (System Software Overview: 64-bit Kernel and Extensions: No)
If I look at the Extensions, most say "Yes" to 64-bit (Intel), however, the following are still 32-bit:
    AppleIntelGMAX3100
    AppleIntelGMAX3100FB
    BSDKernel6.0
    IOKit6.0
    Libkern6.0
    Mach6.0
    System6.0
Does that basically mean that my video card is limiting my ability to run pure 64-bit? If so, does anyone know if this is something that is planned to be fixed in a future release?
    Thanks!

Yes. No. All 64-bit software runs in 64-bit. You simply cannot use the 64-bit kernel unless Apple provides a 64-bit video driver which may not even be possible for the GPU in your computer.
What makes you think you even have a need for the 64-bit kernel?

  • Can't get MacBook Pro to turn on.

Hi, having some problems with my MacBook and could really use some help! Last night, I got the "system updates available" notification, so I downloaded and installed the updates. When it was finished, instead of restarting so the updates could take effect, I shut down and went to bed. Later, I got up in the middle of the night and noticed that the sleep indicator light was on (steady, not blinking) when I know for sure that I shut down. Didn't do anything about it right then. When I got up later in the morning, I tried to turn it on, and nothing. I looked in troubleshooting booklet that came with the computer and couldn't get anything fixed. I want to avoid having to completely wipe the HD clean, because I don't have hardly any of my files backed up (terrible, I know).
Any help? or any tips on how I can at least back up my files? If I had that done, I wouldn't mind wiping it clean and re-installing everything. Thanks.

  • Can't get Macbook Pro to power on at all

Hi, hope someone can help with this.
Yesterday the comp was working fine, only thing I can think of is that the fans may have been running at the higher rpm for longer than usual.
Shut it down properly, came back the next day and I'm getting no response from the power button.
When connected to the mains there is a clicking noise from the top right of the machine, if you hold the button the clicking sounds like a car indicator, when "running" from the just the battery there is no sound.
The battery will charge as normal.
6 months ago the logic board was replaced due to the nvida issue then about a month after that the IO board failed. I replaced the IO board myself due to an "authorised" tech not being authorised and so ruining any warranty on the logic board. I've tried the old IO board and still no response.
I've tried disconnecting the HD and holding the power button for 5 secs when not connected to anything with no luck.
Anyone got any ideas or am I just extremely unlucky as every apple product seems to have a hardware fail with me!
It's an A1226 early 08. Any ideas would be good, I'm really hoping it hasn't just suddenly become an expensive door stop.
    cheers
    colin

After having another look at it again last night I think I was wrong in saying the click was coming from the right. It's coming from the left, think it's roughly where the mag connecter hits the io board. I'm still no further forward.
The replacement logic board only had a warranty of 30 days!! Also as the folk I got to replace the board under warranty were no longer "apple authorised" despite claiming they were, they actually ruined any apple warranty I would have had anyway. This is what has forced me into having to try and fix it myself.
I'm scared it is the logic board as the price of a new one completely puts me of trying that as a fix if this one has only lasted 6 months! Completely out of order that a serious top end machine has in just under 3 years had 2 failed logic boards, 1 failed power adapter and a failed io board.

  • Can not get MacBook Pro to display on Sony HDTV LCD

So I bought a DVI to RGB (Y/Pb/Pr) cable. I have it hooked up and use Detects Displays. It detects a VGA connection but it will not show a picture on the TV. I have verified I am on the right input on the display and checked all just in case. I can't use DVI to HDMI because the TV only has one HDMI and it is being used by my cable signal. There is another input that is labeled RGB in the Sony manual but I can not find a DVI to RGB that looks like the plug configuration on the back of the TV. I would like to stay away from S-video and everything else because they do not support HD. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried a DVI-VGA (D-SUB) cable? It does actually support any resolution supported by both the display and the computer (including HD). This will deliver the same signal as your analog component RGB cable. I use this with my SONY HDTV every day, works very well.

  • Can not get MacBook Pro to wirelessly connect to Deskjet 2512

I have installed the software 3 times and I still can not connect to the printer wirelessly. The directions for converting from USB to wireless instruct to go to Finder/Applications/HP then choose my printer. The file only containsDevice Utilities, HP Scan, HP Uninstaller and HP Utility so I can go no further with the instructions. I installed the drivers again just to make sure that I hadn't missed something. Still no connection. Help. I have two of these printers and need them both connected.
    Thanks

    Hi sbritt,
The Deskjet 2512 does not supports wireless printing.  You will need to either connect directly to your computer with the USB, or purchase a wireless print server.

  • Can't get Macbook Pro to sleep with external display connected

I just got a brand new (to me) used uMBP (2.53ghz/9400/9600GT 512mb). I have a Dell Ultrasharp 2005fpw LCD display. The Dell has a cable connected to it with DVI on the monitor side and HDMI on the other end. I'm using a mini displayport to HDMI adapter.
When I close the lid on the laptop, everything seems to sleep OK. But when I wake up in the morning, I see the screen saver running on the Dell, so I know the computer has been on all night. I have also tried putting the laptop into sleep before I close the lid with the same result.

THe USB devices are much more likely to be the culprits than the monitor, tasslehawf.
Try disconnecting the hub and the Logitech mouse dongle and se if the problem persists. If not try each of them individually. If this doesn't fix it try uninstalling the Logitech drivers. (I'd actually be more suspicious of the Logitech mouse than anything else, as it probably "polls" the computer from time to time to see if it is active, quite possibly waking it in the process, but the hub and the attached speaker should be regarded suspiciously for the moment, too).
    Cheers

  • Can`t get MacBook Pro game App`s in Brazil! Why?

I`ve been trying to buy game app`s in Mac App Store but they are not available in Brazil`s Apple site. Why? Is it possible to do it through US or Canadian Mac App Stores?

The app stores are linked to a credit card with a physical addres so buying from app stores in other countries has been an issue for a number of people...doesn't work.  If you had an addresss and credit card in the other country and could establish another account based on that information you could try.
