Can't get Macbook Pro to sleep with external display connected

I just got a brand new (to me) used uMBP (2.53ghz/9400/9600GT 512mb). I have a Dell Ultrasharp 2005fpw LCD display. The Dell has a cable connected to it with DVI on the monitor side and HDMI on the other end. I'm using a mini displayport to HDMI adapter.
When I close the lid on the laptop, everything seems to sleep OK. But when I wake up in the morning, I see the screen saver running on the Dell, so I know the computer has been on all night. I have also tried putting the laptop into sleep before I close the lid with the same result.

THe USB devices are much more likely to be the culprits than the monitor, tasslehawf.
Try disconnecting the hub and the Logitech mouse dongle and se if the problem persists. If not try each of them individually. If this doesn't fix it try uninstalling the Logitech drivers. (I'd actually be more suspicious of the Logitech mouse than anything else, as it probably "polls" the computer from time to time to see if it is active, quite possibly waking it in the process, but the hub and the attached speaker should be regarded suspiciously for the moment, too).
Cheers

  • June 2012 Macbook Pro not compatible with external display?

I have been using an Acer X203H monitor with my old macbook pro (15" model) with the apple dvi-vga cable with no issues. But I have recently purchased the above mentioned macbook pro so I also bought a thunderbolt-dvi cable in order to use my external monitor. Basically, the monitor just keeps telling me that there is 'No Signal' and shuts down. Why is that? Is it a compatibility issue between my monitor and my new macbook pro? Or is it because (as I have just realized) I am doing a very roundabout way of connecting my computer to my monitor (thunderbolt-dvi-vga)? If I get a thunderbolt to vga cable will the monitor work properly?
Any insight at all would be much appreciated. Thank you!

btw, the old macbook pro is from 2008 and is pre-unibody

  • Can a New MacBook Pro that comes with 10.7 run 10.6?

Well its been a long time visiting the discussions for me, just after the new format, and I still hate it and it does seem painfully slow, but have a question. Now to figure out How to Post it.
Can a New MacBook Pro that comes with 10.7 run 10.6 ? Hate losing Rosetta. Whoops, search came up with this.
Actually you can, at this time, downgrade the new MBPs to SL if you have the correct version od SL. You need at least 10.6.7 for it to work on the current run of MBPs. Once they come out with a newer, 2012, MBPs I have no idea if SL could be installed.
    Guess I better hurry.
Anyone disagree? It use to be you would get a msg saying No. But from looking I see some places in the states selling them with 10.6 installed and a free upgrade to 10.7. Not that option here.
So where is that enter key to post

Really I don't lie and I am getting tired of people calling me a lier.
    Thanks.
I'm reluctant to wade into this but I noticed that if Mactracker is to be believed, the Early and Late MacBook Pro have the same Model Identifier, which would suggest that the SL installer for the Early MBP might see the Late MBP, which came with Lion, as close enough for government work. While the SL installer wouldn't necessarily be 100% suitable for the Lion Machine and probably wouldn't allow installing over the existing Lion partition, I can imagine it working on a clean partition or external USB or Firewire drive. A 10.6.8 combo updater could then configure the SL installation for the MBP it's actually on.

When you order a MBP you can have it delivered at any Apple retail store.  When you get the e-mail that the MBP is ready to be picked up, you have options to enter in the rersponse if you or someone else will pick it up.  You will have to fill in some required information that will identify that person to the store personnel.
I had my last MBP delivered to the local store, but I picked it up.
    Ciao.

  • Internal drive for Macbook Pro 13 inch with Retina display from late 2013?

Hi everyone. After some water spillage to my new computer, the guys at the Apple Store have told me that my internal hard drive needs to be replaced. No other damage was done, thankfully. I have a Macbook Pro 13 inch with Retina Display from late 2013. The Apple genius said my current hard drive has flash storage, and that my new hard drive will need that as well as the computer requires it. Does anyone know where I can buy such a hard drive? Is it possible to buy it from Apple? I am happy to buy online or in a store (I live in Australia). Also, is this Mac Pro model difficult to take apart? I'd like to install the hard drive myself.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

    From the specs:
    STORAGE AND MEDIA
    Storage
256, 512 GB, or 1 TB flash storage
    Media
    Optional Apple USB SuperDrive

  • My Macbook Pro 15-inch with retina display crashes sometimes when connected to an external monitor

My almost-new Macbook Pro 15-inch with retina display goes black and shuts down sometimes when connected to my external monitor. (The first time it did this was when connected to a projector.) They have replaced the motherboard but it still happens sometimes. The computer and monitor both come back on after a few seconds.

  • Can not get  MacBook Pro 10.7.2 connected to Panasonic LCD projector to work

Any suggestions on how to get MacBook Pro 10.7.2 working with a LCD Panasonic Projector Model # PT-LB10NTU?

    Thanks for the replys.
After spending an hour plus, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and still not able to print, my husband, sits down, plugs in an ethernet cable, reinstalls the printer with the ip, and it prints. !!! I'd already done that , but that was before I deleted the preferences and installed the Gutenprint driver. I think it was the new Gutenprint driver that did it.

  • Can I use macbook pro install Disk with macbook?

    Hi everyone,
I have a macbook and macbook pro, I had to reinstall system after harddrive went on the macbook. I can't find my macbook restore disks/installation disks. Would I be able to use the macbook pro install disks with macbook?
    Much appreciate your help.
    Mo

It might work but it's risky. The MBP installation disks may well not contain the right drivers for the MacBook. It would be better, if at all possible, if you contacted Apple tech support and asked for a new set of disks for your MacBook. They'll send you a set for a reasonable fee. If you can't wait, perhaps there's an Apple Store or other Apple dealer near you that would have a set you could borrow in-store to do the reinstallation.

  • MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011 - External display issues

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro 13" (2.7GHz version) that I am using with an external non-Apple display.  I am having issues when MBP goes to sleep or trys to sleep the display.  The external display exibits one of a number of problems:  goes dark but does not power off the backlight or freezes up and requires being powered off then back on.  My display is an ASUS VW266H but it seems like this problem, or other similar problems, are happening with other non-Apple displays.
In calling Apple tech support of 5/27/11 they indicated that this is a known bug and they are working on a fix.  There was software update released 5/4/11 to  "improve graphics stability, address issues with external display" named MacBook Pro Software Update 1.4 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1382).  I downloaded this and applied it but it made no difference.
I experienced these problems with three different video adapters:  Apple's own mini DP to DVI, Belkin mini DP to HDMI and another brand of mini DP to HDMI also sold by the Apple store.
    So the questions are:
    1) Will Apple release another updated to address this incompatability or are they done with the issue given that they released the update mentioned above?
    2) Has anyone compiled a list of monitors that are know to work with these most recent MacBook Pros (the early 2011 versions with the Thunderbolt/mini DP combined ports)?
If you have used the MacBook Pro 13" early 2011 with an external monitor please respond to this post with your experiences so we can all know what works.

With my new 2011 13" MBP I'm having no latency issues using my '08 Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW DVI (digital) monitor. Sleep function awakens fine, goes to sleep 3-4 sec.
I'm using a cheapie model Syba MDP to DVI connector; here on Amazon:

I bought 2 in case one craps out on me...knock on wood. Good luck hope you find a solution.

  • Won't boot with external display connected

My MacBook Pro (circa 1997) won't boot with the external display connected. I can connect the external display (20in flat planel) after it has started, and it works just fine.
I have tried two different DVI cables (one of which I think is a DVI-A cable) and the DVI-to-VGA cable. The result is the same.
During the boot phase I get the tone, the apple logo and the progress wheel. After 30 seconds to one minute those disappear to be replaced by an empty blue screen.

In case anyone wonders, my "solution" was to change to a WB Elements Desktop 3TB (only USB 2.0 is currently available for this model). I miss the speed of USB 3.0, but it's much nicer to not have to remember to unplug and plug in the hard drive each time I boot.
Still hoping to see a proper solution to this (since I don't have the WB My Book anymore, I can't test adaher's suggestion).

  • Can I wake my Macbook Pro from Sleep with the Remote app on the iPhone?

I can't access my Macbook Pro remotely, specially after several hours of inactivity,, whenever I try to access content of my library through the remote app or the Apple TV I'm unable to wake my Macbook Pro up.
My Macbook Pro is 2012 model (the last with de CD Drive) and it's running the Maverick OS, my questions are:
    * I'm unable to find the "Unable Power Nap while plugged" option on the energy saver tab... is that because the model of my laptop doesn't support that?
    * In order to access content from my library remotely, should the "Computer Sleep" option on the energy saver be on "Never" instead of the "1 hour" that I'm currently using... or is there a way to still be able to wake up the laptop with those settings

Do you have a Bonjour Sleep Proxy server on your network?
<About Wake on Demand and Bonjour Sleep Proxy>
If you do not have a Bonjour Sleep Proxy server on your local network, then you cannot allow your Mac to go to sleep at all.  System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Computer Sleep -> Never (slide all the way to the right).

  • Can't Get MacBook Pro and Mac Pro to Network

I have a MacBook Pro (2008 - 2.5 Ghz. Core 2 Duo with 4 Gb of RAM running OS X 10.6.7) that I have been connecting to my Mac Pro (2005 - 2 2.66 Ghz Xeon with 20 Gb of RAM running OS X 10.6.7) through an Ethernet switch on my school's network. This has worked without a hitch for years, but when I upgraded to 10.6.7 recently, the MacBook and Mac Pro fail to network. On the MacBook Pro, the Mac Pro's icon doesn't show in the shared area, and on the Mac Pro, I can see the icon for the MacBook Pro, but when I click on the icon to connect, I get the message that "Connection Failed There was an error connecting to the server (name of my MacBook Pro). Check the server name or IP address, and then try again." I have tried a direct connect using the "Connect to Server" under the Go menu on both machines, using their IP addresses, but no luck. Is there something I need to re-set to get these two to talk again? I have other Macs on the same network that my MacBook and my Mac Pro can see, and both machines can connect to them. They just can't connect to each other.
Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have on  how to fix this.

I fixed the problem by re-setting the default values for my VirusBarrier X6 anti-virus program.

  • Can't get MacBook Pro to restart

Last night I ran my battery down to recalibrate. The power drained, I let it sleep overnight, and this morning I plugged the MagSafe back in to recharge the battery. The light shows green instead of amber, as if the battery is fully charged. I left it plugged in for a little bit and then tried to restart the MacBook Pro and it won't do anything.
Any suggestions as to what I can do to get back up and running?
    Thanks!

Have you tried removing the battery all together and then tried restarting? Keep in the mind the processor will run and half-speed without the battery installed but hopefully you should be able to restart and use your Mac.
    Good luck.
