I can't get my MacBook to boot up, Come on and wheel spins. Screen turn  light blue, then dark blue with curser and just keep repeating that pattern.

Older mac book with (??  10.5....  ??) Froze up. Force Quit "Kindle", "Sketch up" and "Safari". Have tried to use safe boot but after 5 min. of holding shift key the SBOD (Spinning Beachball Of Death) was still spinning away. Tried to load Mountain lion by means of disc---Didnt have original disc for this macbook; inherited it from deceased family member 2 yrs ago--- but couldn't get past SBOD there either. I am willing to erase all on mac book in order to get it up and running again since all my vital files are in my Mac (desktop) and primary use of macbook tends to be internet use.

You could try installing Snow Leopard on the Macbook. Installation DVD is available from Apple:

Are you sure the MB meets the requirements for Mountain Lion?

  • Can't get ibook to boot from external harddrive when hitting option key

    Hello,
After owning a Pismo Powerbook that had it's hardrive replaced --twice--, i'm all about backing my shtuff up for my ibook.
I picked up a Lacie d2 external harddrive today, and used Disk Utility's Restore function to copy everything from the ibook to the drive. I can boot off the Lacie without a problem when I select it as the startup disk from sys preferences.
But I can't get it to boot from the Lacie when I depress the Option key while rebooting or starting.
    any suggestions?
    ibook g4 933   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Let's be sure  you are doing it correctly:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.  Select the desired boot drive (you will have to wait about 20 seconds before you can make the selection) then click on the large right arrow button.  If this is what you are doing and it does not work, then you may need to re-prep the external drive and re-clone.
    1.  Boot from your Tiger DVD. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button, then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
After the above re-clone as follows:
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the startup volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    4. Drag the startup volume to the Source entry field.
    5. Select the backup volume from the leftside list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Check the box to Erase Destination.  Skip this step if you've already formatted the drive.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.

  • Can't get RAID to boot... simple fix?

    Hey everyone,
Just got my K8N Neo Plat with 3200 CG Clawhammer.
Got RAID set up and XP Pro SP1 installed okay, but now I can't get Windows to boot.
    FIRST BOOT DEVICE:  HARD DRIVE
    SECOND BOOT DEVICE:  FLOPPY
    THIRD BOOT DEVICE: CD-ROM
IDE RAID: ENABLED (with all appropriate ports and SATA channels as well)
When I select BOOT LIST - F11 from POST screen, I can select Hard Drive, but then it also gives me an additional menu where it displays my two Seagate Barraccuda's individually, and then my RAID.  When I select the RAID from this list, it's fine, and XP boots.  When I restart and boot normally, however, it's like it's trying to boot off of my striped drives individually, and I get "A disk-read error occurred. Press ctrl+alt+del to restart" at the IRQ/Verifiying DMI Resources screen.
I can't find this hard drive sub-menu that allows me to boot my RAID in the BIOS when I select my boot devices.  How can I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Odie

  • Can't get Powerbook to boot up...

I have a powerbook 15" that I purchased in 2005; I usually have it in sleep mode last and when I went to use it last night, I noticed that the light in the front wasn't flickering on and off. I tried to power it up using the on/off button, but that didn't work either, so I don't know what's going on. Can't get it to boot up no matter how long I hold the power button. Any suggestions?

    Hi Emilio,
If the suggestion that you received from Philo2 doesn't solve the problem, you might try holding down the start button for ten seconds. Wait a few seconds then try to start it again.
Sometimes these PowerBooks go into deep sleep and don't respond to anything but a new startup.

  • My Macbook Pro began crashing when I tried running safari. An error message came up asking that I repair the HD volume. Before I was able to run repair, computer shut down. Now I can not get it to boot. I tried booting in safe mode to no avail. Pls help.

Can someone please help me with a Macbook Pro booting question?
Recently, my mid 2010 MacBook Pro has started acting up when I am on Safari. Safari would unexpectedly crash multiple times in a row, then run fine for a while, then again, crash repeatedly. Not long after this began happening, an error message from my Prosoft Drive Genius 3 software, threw out a message that a serious error had occurred and I needed to repair the HD volume. Before I was able to run the software to repair the HD volume, the machine stopped working. I turned off the Macbook and when I tried to restart, it would not boot. I have since removed all external hardware from my machine and tried several times, unsuccessfully, to boot. I have also tried booting in safe mode when also does not work.
Any suggestions?  Thanks for your help.

    Try SMC reset:
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time. (four keys together)
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • HELP I can't get macbook air to boot!!

Help!! I am traveling around the world right now and I can't get my MBA to boot up.  I shut it down by selecting shut down, after closing all windows.  A few hours later went to turn it on and nothing!  I am so frustrated! When I press the start button I get the chime, but the screen doesn't light up.   I can feel something whirring, and the logo on the back lights up but that is it.  I have tried repeatedly starting it and turning it off, nothing. Have tried holding the alt button and the start button at the same time, nothing.
I am getting on a plane in the morning and going to Nicaragua so I can't call Apple nor can I go to a service center.  Right now it is 7:45 PM in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and the computer service centers are closed.
I purchased the MBA in January of 2014 so it is less than 1 year old.  I purchased extended warranty recently.  I have the latest OS system installed, I have no USB sticks to start from.  All I have is the MBA.  Slapping it doesn't help Neither does yelling at it .  Any suggestions as to what I can do? This is the first time this has happened. I haven't dropped the computer.
    Thanks so much!

The easiest thing to do is to reset the SMC:
Power or other problems related to unexpected system sleep, shutdown, lights or fans call for an SMC reset. Read all the steps.
    Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if it's not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time. The power adapter indicator light may cycle off / on once.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Can't get MacBook to "see" Airport Extreme

Last week I bought an Airport Extreme to enable me to direct stream NetFlix on my new Samsung DVD player. To save my life I cannot get my MacBook to recognize the Extreme. I've tried Airport Utility with no luck. I go back to Express and everything is hunky-dory. Oh, one time, I almost got it to accept both Express and Extreme but it kept asking Express for a password. I have never put a password on Express. I feel something as plain as the nose on my face is there but can't get it to work. Also, I am using a Comcast modem. Thanks for any help!

  • Can't get Macbook to recognise Samsung SE SO84

    Hi to you all.
I apologise if this problem has been addressed a thousand times but I have had a good ferret about without success. My optical drive has failed on my macbook and I have purchased a Samsung SE SO84 but can't get the computer to recognise it at all.
I can put a CD or DVD into it and the green light flickers and the disc spins but I then cannot do anything. Does anyone have any idea who to correct this problem as I am trying to get my daughters homework on a CD!
    Many thanks

  • Can't get Macbook Pro 2,1 to 64-bit mode

I'm running a late 2006 macbook pro with an intel core 2 duo 2.33 mhz and I was wondering if there is anyone that knows if there's a way to get it to boot in 64-bit mode. Thanks.

    donv (The Ghost) wrote:
No 64 bit apps will run on the 32-bit kernel, but running 64-bit apps on the 64-bit kernel does not require start up to the 64-bit kernel. And, only some 32-bit apps will run on the 64-bit kernel.
    That's not quite correct.
32-bit and 64-bit applications will run on either kernel.
However 32-bit kernel extensions will only run on the 32-bit kernel, and 64-bit kernel extensions will only run on a 64-bit kernel.
That's why Apple is currently defaulting to booting to the 32-bit kernel; most non-Apple kernel extensions have not yet been made available in 64-bit form for SL.

  • I have an old iMac that won't boot up anymore.  I have the OS X install disks but I can't get it to boot from these disks.  No need to save anything.  Any suggestions?

I have an old iMac.  Not sure of the operating system but the install disks say OS X.  The computer will not boot anymore and all I keep getting is to restart and when I do I keep getting the same message.  I do have the install disks but I can't get the computer to install, or for that matter, read the disks.  I would like to rebuild the computer from these disks so that I can continue to use this computer.  There is no need to save anything on the computer as I backed it up months ago.  Any suggestions as to how I can save this computer and not have to recycle it?

Really need to know what version of OS X it is currently running, and what version you are trying to install.

A bit OT, but the current rc.conf doesn't support blacklisting modules so '!snd_pcsp !pcspkr' sin't doing anything.
How did you set these interfaces up? Maybe they got mixed up on boot https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … vice_Names

  • Can't get macbook working

emptied my files onto external hd erased os mavericks, commenced installing mountain lion 10.7 as there wasn't a mavericks option and now it didn't complete and I can't get my macbook goin (scream) can anyone help me pleeeese?

Assuming the original OSX was LION (10.7) start the MBP with the COMMAND+OPTION+R keys down.  The display should show a revolving globe.  Follow the instructions.  It will connect you to the Apple servers and install the original OSX on your MBP.
Make certain that you have a solid Internet connection.
    Ciao.

  • TS2570 Can't get mac to boot after erase.

I have no prehiprial devices, the boot disc is in the drive, but it won't load the disc when holding "c". just gray screen and the disc drive clicks. what do i do? I can't get the disc to eject either.

To get the drive to eject. reboot while holding the mouse key down.
Did the DVD drive work normally, prior to erasing the hard drive? If so, is the OS X DVD (the original gray-faced OS X disk that came with the macine or a black-faced retail disk) visibly damaged? Are you trying to boot the second DVD instead of the first one (if the gray-faced one)?

And so to the BIOS part a joke to call bios all you can do change clock settings and the bootorder more or less!
    Anywhy to get more options?

I installed it on my desktop cuz I couldnt install win7 when it was in the laptop it said it wasant a start partision, but it didnt help since it didnt boot from it even with the OS installed on the disk.
Since I cant boot from the ssd it dosent matter what I install on it.
Yeah aslong as u dont want to change anything the set bios seams ok but not as soon as you want to change anything like in my case.
something I really really miss is the fan speed control and ofc the acpi and maybe some chipset settings.
but aslong as I get my SSD to work Im more then happy with the bios settings ;)
