Can't get mail to go online

mail keeps asking for password and then rejecting it. have not updated anything but the itunes store for the iphone. tried repairing permissions and even turning off the password option in mail but still nothing

i'm having this same issue as well...with both my work email and an email account through a hosting provider. the hosting provider immediately asked me if I was using "Apple's Mail client" as it's a common issue with them. they said resetting the password sometimes helps, but it only seems to work for a short time before becoming an issue again. I'm finding a lot of threads on here regarding this issue...seems Apple needs to fix something...

  • Can't get mail to go online with .Mac

For several months I am unable for several days at a time to retrieve mail from .Mac. Mail just won't take the account online. I get headers, but no mail. My other accounts work fine, as does web access. This was a problem with my G4 Powerbook, and now with my MacBook Pro.

AFAIK, if Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced
Keep copies of messages for offline viewing is
set to All messages and their attachments, and
you still cannot read your mail properly while
offline, then your mailbox is not fine, as
that's precisely what that setting is for. In order
to fix that problem, you'll have to rebuild
the mailbox when (and if) you can successfully
establish a reliable connection to the server.
As to the connection problems, there is little you
can do, or rather, little I can tell you to do, other
than going to Apple Menu > System Preferences >
Network > Show: Network Port Configurations and
making sure that the configuration used to connect to
Internet is at the top of the list. Also, disable any
    communications/networking configuration enabled, but
    not in use.
    Hi David,
Thanks for your patience and tenacity. My wife and I just returned from a five-day trip to Tibet where we had no Internet access, thank heaven.
The problem persists; I can't get any new mail. I can read the old stuff just fine, but can't get any new mesages from the server. Just for the heck of it I did a "Rebuild Mailbox" as you suggsted, and now I have no mail at all. I'm sure that will be fixed whenever I can get a reliable connection to the server. It seems many folks here are also having similar problems with Yahoo mail. It must be a China thing.
    I'll keep you posted.

  • Can't get Mail working properly

I just got my new MacPro this week, and it's really great except for I can't get Mail working right. I've set up my accounts and a few emails come through, though not many, and because it's been a week since I've been online, there should be many more than that. Also, I can't send any emails at all, no matter what I do. They will eventually go into my Sent box, but I've been sending them to myself to see if it's working, and they never come through. I spent an hour on the phone yesterday with the tech support for my ISP, and they told me that I'd have to talk to the Apple techs because they didn't have current info for *Mail 3.1*, the version I have, that the latest they had was for 2.something. So I called the Apple tech support and spent 2 hours on the phone with them, and they weren't able to help me get it going correctly either. It keeps giving me error messages such as Connection Failed, or Unable to Receive Mail, saying "there may be a problem with the mail server or network" and that "the connection to the server on ... port has timed out." I'm on DSL and am always online, so I know it's not the internet connection that's the problem. Can anybody give me some advice on what I should try? Any help will be gratefully appreciated!

Is your ISP Verizon, Demon, or Glocalnet, then it might be Apples biggest Leopard Bug in conjunction with these ISP:s POP-servers.
The one that randomly changes the settings in "advanced" from "password" to "APOP".
The visual result of this bug is that you will get a popup-box where Mail asks you to enter your password. (Which is useless entering, since the preference settings are changed.)
My advice counts only when you are supposed to use "password" as the correct setting in "Advanced" and in conjunction with some ISP:s.

  • One of my iCloud accounts can't get mail

I have 2 iCloud accounts, with Mail.app on my Mac configured to check them both from my main user account. The primary email address is fine. The other one has problems. It used to be a Mac.com additional address (not an alias), the kind that used to cost $10 extra. I converted it to an iCloud address when I moved to iCloud, and it has mostly worked until recently. I'd get the occasional spinning gear next to the mailbox, but mail would eventually show up. Today, The spinning gear is non-stop, and the account can't get mail. To check, I tried to log in to iCloud online with this account, and the same thing happens, endless spinning gear. What is going on, and how can I fix this?

I am having this problem too, I called Apple about it and was told they were having server problems, some were working and still some werent, My server...p04-smtp.mail.me.com , is one of those that is still screwed, I was told that it shouldnt be very long til its fixed but if its not tomorrow, to call back. its something that we cant do anything about

  • I get a message the message " Can not get mail. Not connected to server" Yet I am connected with Wi-fi and can access all other websites. Can you advise? My iPad is only a month old!

Has any one experienced not being able to send mail and only receiving some? I get the message " can not get mail. No connection to the server! " Yet I get some mail but can not send out any. My iPad is only 1 month old! It worked perfectly for about 10 days.
    Thx

    Hey agnesfromcopenhagen k,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with Mail on your iPad. The following resource provides some troubleshooting steps. What kind of account are you using? Some internet providers require that you be connected to your home Wi-Fi (or for work accounts, inside your corporate Wi-Fi/firewall). Also, some email accounts require two-step authentication. For more information, see this resource:

  • Can't get Mail to work - I get the spinning wheel and Mail freezes.  I have to Force Quit it.  How do I fix this?

Can't get Mail to work - I get the spinning wheel and Mail freezes.  I have to Force Quit Mail .  How do I fix this problem?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • After installing IOS 5 can't get mail to work...

I have been having trouble installing IOS 5 on my Ipad and part of the problem may have been with my home computer... In any event, I finally was able to get it on but the result is a bit discouraging. All my apps are there, but I lost everything on them... not that there was much... but my main concern is that I can't get Mail to work... I go in settings and when I click on mail... it just goes back to the page with all the icons... I have tried reinitializing and all... but nothing works... Any idea what is the issue and how to fix it ?

First try rebooting your iPad.  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart.  If that does not help, you may need to restore your iPad in iTunes.  You can restore from a backup (assuming you have a backup to restore from).

  • How can I get Mail to capitalise the first letter of a sentence?

    Hello all,
this is my first time using apple Support Community.  i am a new apple user and have just got my first MacBookPro (its wonderful).  however, i am having some difficulties.
How can i get Mail to capitalize the first letter of a sentence and also capitalize 'i' as 'I' automatically?
Also, how can i get apps like Pages to do the same? and for that matter typing into internet sites like this one? look at the lack of automatic punctuation!!
Thank you all for any advice and tips you may have.
    Paul.

I don't think whether it's easier or not is really an issue.  The problem is that all of these wonderful technologies are taking away our understanding of how to communicate in writing.  It's not a matter of being lazy and not "wanting" to do it, but rather getting to a point where many people "can't" do it.
I certainly wasn't pointing any fingers.  I use a calculator (or computer if I happen to be on one at the time) to do the most basic math calculations.  I can be out to lunch with co-workers and we have to pull out a calculator to split a bill 4 ways.  I went through school at a time when calculators were not permitted.  So, at one time, I could have easily done all of that stuff in my head.  So far as math goes, my mind has turned to mush a long time ago.  I doubt I could work my way through a long division problem at this point... even if I sat there and really tried.
Computers were not generally consumer items when I was growing up.  So I didn't grow up in a world with spell checking.  I have certainly grown to use it though and I'm sure my ability to spell properly has diminished somewhat because of it.  I tend to be less careful when typing something out.  If I'm not sure of the spelling on something, I just let my computer either fix it or give me a suggestion for the corrected spelling.  Fortunately, I grew up having to rely on my own ability to spell, so with that foundation, I tend to do fairly well when it comes to spelling.
We're at a point now where systems can correct grammar and sentence structure.  I think all of these are great tools to help us out, but they shouldn't be used to take the place of actually knowing how to do things.  Having said that, I'm fairly sure that is exactly what will happen.  Just as today, I rely almost entirely on some form of electronics for everyday math, I'm sure people growing up today with expert systems able to correct everything will rely on those equally.

  • How can I get mail to address addressees by their first name, first?

I like it that Mail is integrated with Contacts. But when I type a name in the To: section, it is always shown as last name, first name. How can I get Mail to address my friends as Gary Smith, not Smith Gary??

My icloud emails arent arriving most of the time and a few days ago my iphone and ipad started showing "Can't Get Mail" box. This has not happened before since I set up the iclud email address with the purchase of my ipad about a month ago.

That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it...

  • How can I get Mail to stop automatically opening on startup of my MacBook?

How can I get Mail to stop automatically opening on startup of my MacBook Pro? It's not in my startup items folder. But it auto-opens every time I boot up

  • How can I get Mail to 'forget' old email addresses?

Several work contacts have recently changed their email addresses, but when I type their names in the To: box in Mail, it brings up both the new and old addresses.
None of these email addresses are in my Address Book, Mail is obviously just picking them up from previous emails I have sent and received  to/from these people.
How can I get Mail to 'forget' these old email addresses and just bring up the current ones?
(I have already accidentally sent emails to the old addresses because they are coming up in the drop-down menu. I would much prefer it to be idiot-proof and not bring the out of date addresses up at all)

  • How can I get Mail for Exchange on my 6720 classic...

The manual says that Mail for Exchange is pre-installed. Yet, I cannot find it where the manual tells it's supposed to be. I updated to the latest fimware version a couple of months ago. So I cannot remember whether Mail for Exchange has been pre-installed before. At the OVi Store Mail for Exchange is not available for the 6720c.
How the heck can I get Mail for Exchange on my phone?

The iWork apps for a Mac and for iOS devices are different, they are different operating systems.
If your iPad was activated after 1st September 2013 (and you are using the same account that was used to activate the iPad) then you should be able to download the apps for free in its App Store app. If it was activate before that date (or you are not using the same account) then you will need to pay to download the apps.
