Can't get microphone to work on google hangout.  Apple cinema display

Hi:  I am trying to use Google Hangout.  On my macbook air, it works seamlessly.  however, I want to use it on my mac mini and apple cinema display.  The video/ camera works fine (I can see them and they can see me), the chat functionality works fine, output audio works fine (I can hear them) but they can't hear me!
I read all of the things I could on how to play with the setting but couldn't get the microphone on the cinema display to work.
Can someone help?
thanks

I had the same problem and did following adjustment and it started working:
Applications->Utilities->Audio MIDI Setup->Display Port-> Move the slider labeled "1" to right.

  • Where can I purchase a Logic Board for a 24" Apple Cinema Display?

My 24" Cinema Display started to flicker and black out shortly after I purchased my most recent MacBook Pro.  Apple felt that the issue was the MacBook Pro so they replaced it.  The problem continued so they suggested I take the Cinema Display to the Genius Bar.  The display was out of warranty and the Apple Genius felt the issue was a bad display even after I told him I smelt silicon burning just before it went out completely.  He said that he could "depot" the unit and have it repaired for ~$600.  Due to the high cost of repair, I chose to purchase a new Thunderbolt Display instead.  Recently, I opened the old Cinema Display and found that the Logic Board is fried.  I have ordered a new board from 2 different Web retailers.  Both accepted the purchase as "in stock" but then stated they could not get the board from Apple.  Where can I purchase the Logic Board for a 24" Apple Cinema Display?
    Many thanks!

I was very interested to read this document.  I think there is a problem with the Cinema Display and that it is frying the computer.
My husband bought each of us a macbook pro.  His was hooked up to the cinema display.  After about a year, his MBP started to suffer intermittent failures where it would suddenly shut off and have to be hard rebooted.  After 2 years, the power or logic board on his MBP completely failed. He bought a new MBP and a Thunderbolt display, and I inherited his Cinema Display for use with my original MBP.
After one month of use with the cinema display, my MBP started to have the same problems.  It has to be hard rebooted almost every time I disconnect or reconnect with the cinema display.  I went to the Genius bar, and they confirmed that my MBP logic board needs to be replaced; I'm just holding out until spring break to take it back in, as they say it may take a week.  Fortunately, I have AppleCare for my MBP.
Our cinema display is 3-4 years old, but it looks like, even though it appears to be working, I should probably get rid of it.  I can't keep frying computers!
I'm posting this because I'm wondering how many others are experiencing this problem.

  • I'm can't get iMessage to work with all my Apple devices.

So i cant seem to get iMessage to work across all my Apple devices. My wife and I use the same Apple ID but have different phone numbers. Is there a way to get all our messages on our shared devices and our personal messages on our phones? (iPad, iMac, MacBook Pro: Shared)

    Hi,
I have this set up with one Mac and two iPhones  (Not Multiple Macs)
I added the Apple ID to the Mac for iMessages.
I then added the Apple ID to the first iPhone.
I accepted the pop ups on the Mac so that the iPhone was Listed in Receive At (you might have to Restart the App on the Mac to trigger this).
I then added the Apple ID to the Second iPhone and again accepted the pop ups in the Mac.
IF this is what you think you did but it is not working remove the Apple ID from both iPhones
Place the iPhones in Airplane mode fro a few minutes to Break with the server.
when back in normal mode and in Settings > Messages check the iPhone number is ticked and active.
(Send a Test message to the Apple ID (Mac) to check)
Add back the Apple ID if the test works.
Restart the Mac version to trigger the pop ups and Accept.
Repeat the set up with tests for send iPhone.
I have never set this up with one ID on two or more computers but it should work.

  • Can't get anymore brightness out of Older 23" Apple Cinema HD Display

    Hey guys,
So I'm trying to match an older monitor (Apple Cinema Display HD 23" circa 2002-04...I know) to a newer iMac.
    Currently attached using ADC->DVI->Thunderbolt.
In comparison, the iMac is much brighter. I'm guessing due to the fact that it's newer and sexier.
So just wondering if there's anyway to get anymore brightness out of the older monitor or has it reached its limitations? I've set the brightness as high as it can go via display preferences.
I know these are completely diferrent displays and decades of release, just wondering if I'm missing something.
If only I could afford that 4K...
    Thanks for your help!

The Apple Cinema Display requires Mac OS X v10.2 or later, and one of the following systems:
—Power Mac G4 with an NVIDIA GeForce2 MX, GeForce3, GeForce4 MX, or GeForce4 Titanium graphics card; or with an ATI Radeon 7500, 9000 Pro, or 9700 Pro graphics card.
No connection problems- ADC or DVI
No resolution problems- 1920x1200 will show after connected

  • [SOLVED] Can't get microphone to work

Hi everyone, I'm trying to get my microphone to work so I can use Skype (which installed very easily btw). Headphone and speaker sound works fine. I know it's not a hardware issue because the mic works fine in Ubuntu 10.04 and Debian. My sound hardware is the onboard chip from my mobo: http://tinyurl.com/2d79c4d - a Realtek ALC888
I've unmuted both 'mic' and 'front mic' in alsamixer, but neither of them work when I try to record via arecord or Skype or vocaroo.
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

  • Can;t get microphone to work

Hello folks! I have a Hercules Dualpix Exchange Mic connected to my Lenovo Desktop. I have downloaded Skype and have run the visual test (which worked) and the microphone call test (which did not work). I am not very computer minded so I am not really sure what to do to correct the problem. I did a troubleshoot run on the Hercules Dualpix and the computer told me they could find no problem with the device. I have had Skype in the past and used this very same device. It had the same problem, but a visitor with more computer sense than myself fixed it.
    Any suggestions?
    Thx

I too have been fighting to get the microphone to work on Skype. The speakers work fine but people are unable to hear me when I answer. All settings are on so I am unsure as to what the problem is. I even purchased a new mic from Staples and it was the same problem so returned it and back to the original so it is not a faulty microphone. Any help would be appreciated as this is getting very frustrating. Thanks

  • I can't get autofill to work anymore on any apple devices

What can I do to get autofill to work again?  the option pops up, but when I click it nothing happens.  Then I can't get rid of the pop up.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

  • Where can I buy a Brand New Apple Cinema Display 30"?

    Hi,
I Already posted my question in the older Display topic, but I'm not sure it was the good place, so I post it here. If it's not the good place, you can move my thread to the good topic. Thanks.
I'm looking for mounths to buy a brand new 30" Apple Cinema Display. I went to some Apple reseller/Apple Stores and each of them didn't really knew where I could buy it since it's discontinued. I can't believe there is no brand new 30" Apple Cinema Display lying around in some Apple Stores/Apple general center at Toronto or anywhere in USA.
I really want one of them, and I'm ready to make anything to get one (phone call etc). I would like to get some help of where I can call or where I can go to get what I want. The price doesn't really matter now.
    Thanks!

Have you done google searches for it ("Apple 30" cinema display")?  That's all I can recommend.
A quick google search turned up this page which apparently lists some new 30"s.
Note, I did not follow those links to see if "new" really meant "new".

  • After years of owning all things Mac, I am finally trying to use iChat, and can't get it to work. I see my buddy, but all I can do is send a message--the video and audio chat icons are gray, as is inviting to a video chat under Buddies.

After years of owning all things Mac, I am finally trying to use iChat, and can't get it to work. I am using gmail, and I see my buddy (no camera icon next to her name), but all I can do is send a message--the video and audio chat icons are gray, as is inviting to a video chat under Buddies. My buddy has the same problem as I.  We are able to do video chat through gmail, but I had hoped to use iChat.  I am using OS 10.6.8, iChat v. 5.0.3.  What am I missing?

    HI,
iChat will Video chat to another iChat in a Jabber Buddy List (Google run a Jabber server for GoogleTalk)
However it will not Video to the Web Page login to iGoogle or the Web Mail Page login.  (where people can Google Chat as it were in a  Web Browser).
Nor does it video to the Google Talk Stand alone app for PCs or any other Jabber apps on any platform.
iChat uses a connection Process called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) which is also used by other VoIP devices.
Jabber/XMPP invited the Jingle Protocol for Jabber Applications.
Google have included this in their Standalone app and the Plug-in for Web Browsers on both PCs and Mac (you can get this as a Standalone Plug-in or as part of Chrome)
More on this here  This article has been changed several time in the recent months.  It now claims a greater involvement by Google in writing the Jingle Library (Although now Google's version does not work with the others)
This tends to mean that using the web Login to Google to Chat also cannot video chat to other Jabber apps that are using Jingle.
If your Buddy is using iChat then check the Video Menu has two items to Enable Camera/Video chat and Microphone/Audio chats are ticked.
In the View Menu the Show Status Items should be ticked (Selecting them toggles the tick and the function On or Off)
It could be Internet speed but at this stage I would doubt this at this stage.

So in hotmail it finally lets me select if I use POP to download Hotmail messages to another program, that program could make it so I can't read my messages on Hotmail. (For example, this might happen if you use Mac Mail or Mozilla Thunderbird).
I have the "Do what my other program says-if it says to delete messages, then delete them." box selected.
however my mail on my it mac says
"There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “[email protected] ” or try again. The server returned the error: The connection to the server “pop” on port 110 timed out."

  • Can't get mic to work on Acer TravelMate P

    Hello there Arch forum.
    @mod
I'm not sure if this post is best placed in laptop/media or newbie corner, I have used Arch for 2 years now but I'm a noob on pulseaudio.
Feel free to move it to the desired location.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to get my head set microphone to work in mumble on my Acer TravelMate P laptop.
I have tried different things that was suggested on the PulseAuido Troubleshooting page.
But I think its a problem with a hardware button that can mute the microphone located just beneath the screen.
When press the button nothing happens..

  • Can't get OCISvcCtxToLda to work

I'm hacking PERL DBD::Oracle to be able to
switch from OCI 8 to OCI 7 and back. This
effort is mostly to keep old code that is
blob_read()ing LONGs working and at the same
time be able to read CLOBs while the database
is in transition. So far so good, except when
    I call OCISvcCtxToLda, I get:
    ORA-24323: value not allowed
Sample code that uses OCISvcCtxToLda would
    be an enormous help.
