Can't get my fresh Windows Server 2012 to print
Problem: I'm taking on a new server project and haven't had any experience with Windows Servers at all. Everything has gone smoothly until we went to take a network printer and share it between our two networks.
Here's a run down of our setup. We have a wireless network and a wired network each connected to our server. Our server is a dedicated file server as well as hosts our accounting software and information. We have 3 printers on the wired network
and one new printer hard lined into the wireless router. I am trying to share the new xerox work center 7220 that is hardwired into the wireless router to our hardwired network as well so the whole company has access to our new main printer.
I go into our server and I can see the xerox machine and install it as I normally would. I go into the settings and everything looks fine the IP matches everything looks good I go to print a test page and nothing. But yet when I use my laptop
to double check and test from the wireless network it prints just fine so the printer is functioning perfectly though the network.
Any suggestions or ideas on what to look for? I installed the printer as admin. By all appearances I should be able to print but nothing happens. The job never goes to the print que. My next idea is to hard wire the printer into the third lan port
on my server and try to share it that way but I can't test this as the printer is in use at the moment.
Are both the wired and wireless network on the same IP subnet?
If not, is the new printer configured with the proper gateway to route off its subnet?

Where can i get a FRESH Windows 8 iso? (LEGALLY)
Hey guys,
I wanted to know where you can get a Windows 8 iso, NOT a upgrade iso.
I already did some googleing, and http://www.redmondpie.com/download-windows-8-iso-x86-x64-file-directly-from-micr osoft/ this website seemed to tell me you can get it by downloading a file from Microsoft and just entering a product Key.
However, for this i think you actually need a Windows 7 , because it is an UPGRADE iso, not a fresh system-builder iso.
So i was wondering, where can you get a fresh Windows 8 iso to install on my MacBook, which doesn't have Windows 7?
Or can you use the iso described in remondpie and use it to install Windows 8?
Thanks!
PS According to many people, the new MAcBook Air (2013) which i have does not work really well when you install windows with a CD. That's why i'm trying to use a USB and iso to download it.iso is just a 100% bit by bit image of an optical disc
there are millions of free programs which will make an iso file out of an optical disc in a few minuts -
Windows Server 2012 R2 print issues
We are using terminal server with Windows Server 2012 R2. Our users are using Windows 7 Embedded thin clients with MSTSC RDP 8.0. We are using network printers.
There is problem with printing from Adobe Reader. We are using Adobe Reader 11.0.06. Sometimes users cannot print from Adobe Reader with error message "Printer not found" even though we can print on same printer from other software. This problem can be solved by relogging user, but in our enterprise environment, this is not acceptable solution.
Thanks for your help.I had the same issue with another Canon UFRII that was not on the network. Canon has some monitor software that attempts to query the device and this threw back Invalid Parameter when the device did not exist. Is your device on the network?

Storport.sys BSOD on Windows Server 2012 R2
I recently purchased a Server that houses 45 4TB drives to use as my backup to disk solution. I installed Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard so that I could take advantage of Microsoft's Storage Spaces. I have configured the Storage Pool
with Dual Parity with 3 hot spares. I have also updated every thing to the most current firmware, drivers and Windows Updates that I could find but I am still getting the BSOD. I am using Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3 to backup my file server to this server.
It will run for anywhere between 12 to 31 hours transferring 1.5 to 3TB and then my server will Blue Screen and every time it Blue Screens it says it is caused by the storport.sys Driver. I've found articles talking about the storport.sys driver causing nonpaged
pool leaks but that was for Windows Server 2008 R2, I can't find anything for Windows Server 2012 R2. If you need additional information just let me know and I will provide it. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.Hi,
This article provided the limitation of Storage Pool in Windows Server 2012 R2:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/11382.storage-spaces-frequently-asked-questions-faq.aspx#What_are_the_recommended_configuration_limits
Yor current situation is still in supported configuration.
Also there is no hotfix for Windows Server 2012 R2 regarding storport.sys yet. Which means your current issue is not a known issue.
For further troubleshooting purpose you may need to collect dump files for analysis. However it will take a long time to do the troubleshooting process on forum. Thus it is recommended to submit a ticket to Microsoft online support for a professional troubleshooting.

Migrate SBS 2003 with AD and Exchange to Windows Server 2012 Standard
We are using SBS 2003 and we have configured Exchange server and AD with DNS and DHCP. Now we are planning to move SBS 2003 to Separate servers like windows server 2012 standard AD with DNS and DHCP and Windows server 2012 Standard with Exchange
2010.
Is it Possible?? we need step by step guide.
Thanks in advance.Hi,
You probably would not find any step by step guide for this kind of migrations. If you are not comfortable with doing such migrations I would recommend to if you need to do it your self do some test migrations. Or otherwise get help by a local IT company
that is familiar with migrations.
But to give you some information, first thing before starting a migration is check the health of your SBS 2003 server / domain. Use tools like dcdiag, netdiag and best practice analyzer. I wrote a blog post about steps to think about before you start this
might help: http://blog.ronnypot.nl/?p=914
When every thing is clean you can start adding the new windows server 2012 machines as member servers to your domain.
Next you can promote one of the servers to additional domain controller on your domain (Keep in mind SBS needs to hold all FSMO roles so moving these is the last step your should do.) Also promoting a windows server 2012 to domain controller has slightly
changed, you need to install the ADDS role and follow the wizard to promote the server to a DC.
With installation of the new DC install DNS allongsite it will automatic replicate settings during confiugration.
DHCP must be installed manual, depending on your scope and settings it might be as easy to create a new scope and disable the old dhcp server.
On the server Exchange needs to be installed, make sure you install and do all pre-requirements. Than install Exchange it will automaticly detect you already have an Exchange organization and is installed as additional server. You can configure all settings
and when everything is configured right you start moving mailboxes.
When everything is moved away from the SBS 2003 server, uninstall exchange, move the FSMO roles to the new DC and after that demote the sbs 2003 server so it is not listed anymore as an additional DC in the domain. Last would be shutdown the server and remove
all records left in AD and DNS.
There is this guide for migrating SBS 2003 to windows server 2008 R2 and Exchange 2010, this might give you some usefull information, not everything will be the same but it is a good start:

Number of Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials Servers
I am looking at migrating a small real estate agency to Window Server 2012 R2 from Windows Server 2003 x86. Looking to combine 12 servers ( Essentially PCs running Windows Server 2003) less than 20 users, to 2/3 dual core or quad core servers. I am
looking at Essentials due to cost, but have some questions.
1) Can you have more than one Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials server in the environment? Since the server install defaults to being a domain controller.
2) If you can have more than one Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials, can you have more than one domain controller?
2) Can you migrate/upgrade a Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials server to Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard or Data Center?
Thanks for you time.
DJI confirm your Suggestion that Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials must be the domain controller at the root of the forest and domain, and must hold all the FSMO roles.
You can have more than one Server(Standard, datacenter) with the Windows Server Essentials Experience role installed in your network.
you can migrate from essentials Edition to Standard as Long you purchase the Standard license but is not possible to purchase th eupgrade license fro essentials to Standard. you need the full license.
thanks

Monitor will not restart on Windows Server 2012
With release build we can install Monitor agent on Windows Server 2012, with admin, POA, MTA etc also installed and running ok, in either service or application mode and the monitor agent will run ok at the end of the install. If then exit the application and try to restart it will fail with no errors. Uninstall and re install the application and it will again start first time but not thereafter.

Windows Server 2012 enable memory Turbo boost
Hello guys.
I have a Sony Vaio VPC-F113FX notebook with Quad Core Intel i7 processor with 8GB of RAM.
It is installed a Windows Server 2012 Standard.
I bought an SD card of 64 GB and intended to use the Turbo Boost feature in memory, only this option is not displayed in the properties of the operating system memory card. Can you help me configure or enable this feature in Windows Server 2012.
Thanks
Obrigado por contactar o fórum Microsoft Technet!Hi Hezequias,
Thanks for posting. The Turbo Boost feature is just provide by Intel can cab be obly used on the Intel i5 and Intel i7.
As you mentioned that you used a 64GB SD card and intended to use the Turbo Boost feature, so I guess you might talked about the Ready Boost.
Ready Boost is a feature provide by Microsoft, Ready Boost is a disk caching software component which allows any compatible mass storage device to be used as a hard-drive memory cache for the purpose of increasing random read access
speed to the hard drive. Potentially compatible ReadyBoost devices include USB flash drives, flash memory,solid-state drivers(SSDs), and SD cards. There is a limitation of 32 GB per ReadyBoost device.
However the Ready Boot feature was just supported by the Microsoft Clients(such as windows 7) but not the server edition.
So the feature can't be used on windows server 2012 standard operation system.
Hope it helps.
If you have any concerns, feel free to post back.
Best Regards,
Elaine

Hi,
I have make a new and clean install of Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials on my office network server and then i made a new and clean install of Windows 8.1 Enterprise version on one of my office desktops.
After all VPN and Anywhere Access where setup on the server i when to a PC that is inside my office network and browse on Internet Explorer to the URL to connect this PC to the server and make it part of the domain.
But when i browse to the http://MYSERVERNAME/connect im not getting the Windows Server page with the option to download the windows connector. Instead i get a login pop-up saying "iexplore" and "digest". I try to create a user on the server
and use that user login details on this login box, but even then, the only thing i get is a blank page saying a HTTP Error 404.
So can someone please help me on this? Any advice on how to solve this problem in order to show the normal Windows Server connect page?
ThanksHi,
Based on your description, please refer to following operations and troubleshoot this issue. Then check if
can help us to narrow down the cause of this issue.
Please type
http://server-IP-address/connect in IE. Then check if encounter the same issue.
On the Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials, please open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. Navigate to Sites, then right click Default Web Site and select
Edit Bindings… In Site Bindings, select Port 80 and click “Edit…” button. Would you please provide a screenshot of the Edit Site Binding (Port 80) that you can see?
Then please click
Connect which in the list of Default Web Site. In the mid panel, select
.NET Authorization Rules and double click it. Then please check if all users were allowed.
By the way, would you please provide a screenshot of the login page when you browser
http://servername/connect? It may help me to understand this issue clearly.
Meanwhile, please logon a problematic client computer and navigate to the path: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows
Server\Logs folder. Then check if there is Computerconnector log file. If there is, please check it if can find some clues. (Please note: the log file is a hidden file. Please open Control Panel, select Folder Options, select View tab and check Show hidden
files, folders and drives. Then you will be able to find the log file.)
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
Hope this helps.

Greetings all, I'm currently running a trial version of Windows Server 2012 Essentials, and am very happy with this so moved all pcs and laptops over, reason in doing so was going to go to the full version from this trial, but then I thought about trialing
out 2012 R2 Essentials and have been running this with no issues and would rather spend the money on buying this version.
I have 2 days left of the trial license for 2012 Essentials, is there anyway I can extend this for an extra 10 days or so to give me enough time to finish of building the other server ?
Thanks..Thank you Klockwork, well that's not very helpful of Microsoft :-(
Not sure why though they did allow you to extend with Server 2008..
Anyway I'll
find away.
Thanks

Our company recently moved to Office 365 which mean our on premise exchange server went away as well with the move. I am trying to configure my new sql server (OS-Windows Server 2012 R2, DBMS- SQL 2014 Std Edtion). After some searching I found
this article (http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/02/25/how-to-configure-sql-database-mail-so-send-emails-using-office-365-exchange-online-a-walkthrough.aspx) and have followed these steps exactly, but to no avail. I did some further research
on the SMTP relay I setup and found a way to test it (listed here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn592151(v=exchg.150).aspx at the bottom of the article). If I drop the email.txt file in the pickup folder, it gets sent out no problem.
I have configured my db email exactly as describe here(http://blogs.technet.com/b/meamcs/archive/2013/02/25/how-to-configure-sql-database-mail-so-send-emails-using-office-365-exchange-online-a-walkthrough.aspx). But keep getting an unable to connect
to SMTP server error. I have even tried completely shutting down firewall to see if that is the issue and multiple restarts. Any ideas how to get this to work on Office 365?

The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 2 (2014-06-10T22:28:41). Exception Message: Cannot send mails to mail server. (Failure sending mail.).Hi,
I followed this blog and got the below error message in the Database Mail Log.
“The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 2 (2014-06-11T19:34:00). Exception Message: Cannot send mails to mail server. (Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay

If you are getting the same error message, you can try the below steps to resolve the issue.
1. Open the IIS 6.0 management console. Right click on the SMTP server and open the properties window.
2. Click on the Access tab, click Relay button under Relay restrictions. loopback IP address (i.e 127.0.0.1).
Then the email should be sent out from Database Mail without problem.
Thanks.
