Can't get my P67A-C43 to boot

Hi all,
I just put my new machine together and tried to boot it and the result was that it was powered for about a second and then it shut off, then powered up again for a second and then shut off... And it did so until I switched off the power manually. Sometimes during its power downs it beeped three times and it tried to power up again. While it had power, all four of the CPU power phase LEDs where lit. I also tried to clear the CMOS a couple of times in different ways, but it did not help.
Does anybody have any suggestions what to do or do have to send it back to the store?
My hardware is:
Intel Core i5-3570 3,4 GHz
MSI P67A-C43 (B3)
Chieftec 550W power supply (worked nicely in another setup)
Kingston 4x4GB DDR3 PC3-10600 (tried to remove so i just used one of them)
OCZ SSD 64GB sata3
Different Graphic cards from MSI GTX 680  down to NVIDIAS simplest brands

Its a pity you didn't ask before buying your components, but that CPU is not supported on the P67 board.

You will have to get a Sandy Bridge CPU or a Ivy bridge supported motherboard. Sorry mate.
Nice
I usually read the fine print in the tech manuals. But this time i just assumed that the store where i bought  the stuff would enlighten me. Wont happen again.
And thanks for the quick reply

  • How can I get Lion to recognize my boot camp partition.

Yesterday morning I found my mac suffered from a b-tree failure and was unable to access OS X 10.6. I ended up booting into my Boot camp partition of Windows XP and backed it up then reinstalled Snow leopard. Then I upgraded to Lion, saw it fail due to a partitioning issue, created a 2gb partition called Mac HD 2 (by shrinking mac hd), saw i could install but not full install. So I created another partition and installed Lion successfully. Got into Lion and shrunk my 2x 2GB partitions into one 4GB partition. My Windows XP hard drive boot camp partition was still on my desktop. I can access all the files but I can not boot into it. When I hold down the option key there is only Mac HD or Recovery partition.
Is there any way to get the boot camp partition to work?
I did notice that when I was looking through the settings I could choose which HD was the default boot option. Mac hd with 10.7 and a folder called Windows XP were both available.

We also cannot get Robohelp to recognize our FrameMaker installation.
We are using Robohelp 9  and Framemaker 11.
We are in the process of moving all of our Robohelp content to Framemaker, but our project team still needs CHM files for the next release or so.  So we figured we could move our content to Frame 11, then import the Frame content into Robohelp when we needed to generate the CHM files.
The process works great when we use RH 10 and Frame 11, but we get the following error when we use RH 9:
"This operation cannot be completed without FrameMaker.  Install FrameMaker and try again."
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Frame 11 and RH 9, but am still getting the same error.  Buying a set of new Robohelp 10 licenses probably isn't an option.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Sue

  • X61 - Can't get sysprep'ed image to boot on it.

    Scenario
I am the senior desktop analyst in the offices of an international business travel company.
We recently won the Lenovo account and the employee of our company that manages the account needs to use a Lenovo laptop exclusively so I was sent a brand new X61 to configure for the rep.
X61 originally came with Vista preloaded but I slapped XP SP2 on it using the enclosed bootable Rescue CD and six XP recovery CDs.
Since we already use a single working corporate image for the 6 different non-Lenovo hardware platforms we currently use, I want to deploy the same image to this user.
I was the person that created the image from scratch and I see no problem with it actually working on the X61.
To create an image for the laptop, one of our fastest desktops was imaged with our corporate master image and brought up normally as if the PC was being readied for deployment.
Once everything had completed, the HD in the desktop had the proper Lenovo x61 drivers added to it and the SATA drivers added to the sysprep.inf file as well.
After that it was sysprepped, shutdown and left lying in its original desktop ready to be cloned over to the drive in the X61 where it would be booted up for the first time after sysprep, in the X61.
So I would still be able to keep the preload on the x61's original hard drive, I used a SATA laptop hard drive from one of our current non-Lenovo systems for the image transfer to the x61.
    Problem
When I clone the sysprepped image from the desktop hard drive over to the laptop hard drive, it refuses to boot in the IBM.
It just sits at the screen with a blinking cursor doing nothing.
    Troubleshooting so far
I have put the corporate image on the x61's original hard drive [with the XP preload] by just replacing the original data partition and leaving the recovery partition alone = blinking cursor.
I have cloned the whole source drive over to the Lenovo preload HD, removing the recovery partition completely = blinking cursor.
I have installed XP from the original CD using a USB-floppy drive and the F6 key to add the SATA driver during startup.
Once completely installed, I figured that it had a valid boot sector and I Ghosted over the sysprepped image without the IB switch and I still get the blinking cursor.
I have researched on the Internet using Google and have found a couple of links that seem to indicate what the problem might be and have listed them below
    Predesktop Authentication
This has nothing to do with the issue at hand as this option lies in the BIOS under Security,FingerPrint.
Its BIOS description also states that this option decides whether fingerprint access is required to boot the laptop and this option has been in the disabled state even while the laptop was booting the Factory Preload.
SATA set to Compatibility instead of AHCI
This setting only affects how the OS sees the HD, not how the laptop sees it and I tried it anyway and it has no effect.
If your XP image isnt properly sysprepped to handle the SATA drive using the proper driver, you will need to set it to Compatibility mode to get into Windows.
As it stands, this is not an issue as I have edited the sysprep.inf to add the SATA driver reference for this laptop and if it ever boots the image, I expect it to never BSOD but thats if it ever boots which it hasnt so far.
    Ghosting using the IB switch
I was SO sure that this would fix the issue but I get the same blinking cursor.
Booting into DOS and using Ghost 8.3, I ran "ghost -ib" and selected the sysprepped desktop drive as the source and the laptop drive as the destination and it still leaves me at the blinking cursor when I try it in the laptop.
    Re-creating the MBR
I have done this two different ways, one using Norton GDISK and one using a regular Windows 98 bootdisk.
The Windows 98 bootdisk kept saying "No fixed disks present" so it never worked.
Nortons GDISK didnt have any issues re-creating the MBR on the laptop or on the laptop HD plugged in the desktop but the drive still doesnt boot.
    Signature failure error
I have heard about people having the same issue as me and getting this error but so far I have not received this error.
As of now, I have restored the XP SP2 preload back on to the laptop to get the original boot sector back as I believe that is the key to solving this whole nightmare.
There are other things I have tried as well and since I have been at it exclusively for almost two full business days now, everything is much upstairs right now but I will remember what I have tried if anyone wants to e-mail me any suggestions.
I await and welcome anyones advice.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi all,
Sorry about not updating this thread but here is the solution and the explanation, hopefully, I dont miss anything because I would like this all in one place so it can be referenced in the future.
The Lenovo's and the Dell's and maybe other OEM's [not Fujitsu-Siemens] use a recovery partition and the boot table that references it is based on some form of Linux as also is the recovery partition itself.
As far as I know, all flavors of Linux use 8,192 bytes for a boot table [4 sectors of 2048 bytes each] whereas a standard boot table is only 1 sector and 2048 bytes long.
This is the reason for the problem that happens with OEM laptops like this one.
What you need to do to get the image to boot is the following [BSODs after booting is another issue]
Create the image to a ghost file on whatever platform you want but use the IB switch in Ghost to create the image with the boot table intact.
Deploy the image to the IBM laptop hard drive ALSO using the IB switch
When doing ANY image deployment to the laptop, the hard drive MUST be IN the laptop itself. The laptop writes its boot sector differently so the hard drive must be in it for the image to work. I was doing everything right but this step and I was still having the issue so this is crucial.
If you are testing the image by deploying straight from the test PC to the laptop by using the Ghost Peer-2-Peer TCP/IP option, start Ghost on both ends with the IB switch but remember the destination SATA drive MUST be in the laptop itself.
    Thats it.
    Hope this helps everyone out.

  • After trying to backup  my hard drive i can't get my G4 quicksilver to boot. I get the old icon of a folder with a split face that alternetes with a flashing question  mark

My G4  won't boot. I have tried holding down the c key to boot from a 10.3 disc and it doesn't boot. I keep getting the icon of a folder with a split face that flashes to a question mark. I know that usually means that the startup drive can't be found, but I have 2 good drives i have tried to boot with and it won't start up. Any ideas from out there/ Thanks in advance.

I doubt it's CCC's fault, possibly a bad DIMM, or slot, or corrosion in the slot.
How large is the drive? Which G4? Some can only handle 128-123 GB Drives. Is it an old drive?

Can any one point me in the correct direction as to why it is working manually but not on boot?

The daemon is called "net-profiles", not "network_profiles".

I am trying Arch Linux on my old laptop, if it works well, I'll put it into my work desktop.

  • Can't get newly purchased VMWARE to boot

An administrative system I have to access for my new job runs ONLY on Windows -- I'm required to access the system (the one that lets me get paid, no less) using IE on Windows. I reluctantly today fork over $79 to purchase VMWARE Fusion to run Windows on my MacBookPro. After some annoying false starts (when I tried to run the free 30-day trial version it insisted I buy a serial number -- not sure what's free about that trial), I installed the program and now it would appear to not boot. I tried various kinds of installation setups, but each seemed to want a Microsoft serial key. Which, apparently, is not the same as the VMWARE serial key
Dumb question: do I ALSO have buy software from Microsoft to get this up and running? I'm sorry if these seem like such basic questions, but I'm new to this idea of running Windows on a Mac. I thought once I bought the $79 package that was it. Here's the link to what I bought: http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/
    Many thanks for any ideas . . . .

Yes, you have to buy a Mircosoft Windows license, since Fusion (and Parallels and VirtualBox and BootCamp) not have Windows included.
MAybe ask the company if they have a Windows license you can use.

  • P67A-C43 no boot, constant beep, 3 lights

    Hello all,
When I attempt to power on the system I get a constant beeping sound and what looks like 3 blue lights on the mobo. ( very quickly 1 to all 4 then to only 3. The beep is constant and will not stop until power is removed from the system.
The board supports an 8 pin power connector but 4 pins had a cap on them. Do I need an 8 pin connection? I only used a 4pin in the top uncapped area (top)....
    PSU is 500w 4pin, 4gb ddr3 in slot 1.
    Any ideas?

That is not the correct answer, I am having the same issues with my MSI-P67A-G45 and I'm running a Corsair 850TX, and I had a 700W PSU in there before that... both PSUs did the same thing....
Constant short beeps until the power is removed from the board (via disconnecting the Power Cable), or Switching the PSU switch to the OFF position.
The only way I can get it to stop is to do what I wrote above and then wait 5-10 secs and power it back on, sometimes it takes 1-2 times to get it to stop beeping... so no it is NOT a PSU issue.
I've read several other threads about this and have not seen a clear answer on it.
I hope someone can help us out because it is rather annoying to have a board that is 2 weeks old already having issues... (BTW, this started right when I installed the board, so I know it's not something that I did myself.
Any realistic tips would be great... thanks.

  • I phone zoom's to and i can't get it back without hard booting

Twice today my i phone zoomed and I couldn't get it back.  The first time I went to a Verizon store and she did a hard boot to get it back.  Tonight it happen again.  I did a hard boot (she showed me how) and I got it back.
The first time it happened I have no idea what I did.  Could have "double clicked" without knowing it.  Second time, I was putting the phone down and it happened again.
I'm wondering if there is a problem with the phone (I've had it about 2 wks)  or is there something else???
Also last week when I turned the phone on there was an icon on the first page missing.  It turned out to be the face time icon.  It's nowhere on my phone.  I have no idea how to get it back.

  • How can I get MagicTrackpad to work with Boot Camp and Windows Vista?

Just installed Lion and then installed Magic Trackpad. Now I need to know how to get the Magic Tackpad to work with Windows Vista in my Boot Camp partition. Windows Bluetooth recognizes the Magic Trackpad but it says the device won't confirm the passkey. No passkey came with the Magic Trackpad and the option to not use a passkey still doesn't achieve connection with Windows. Suggestions/ comments, please.
    TIA,
    Picman

    UPDATE
Just completed several lengthy sessions with Apple Tech Support (escalated to excellent Sr. Advisor). Bottom line is that there seems to be no answer to the problem of the Magic Trackpad not being able to maintain its pairing/connection with Windows (Vista in my case) or OS X (10.7 in my case) when switching Boot Camp partitions. In fact, when trying to re-pair it is necessary to remove the MTP batteries first. To pair at all with Windows requires the use of the Bluetooth passkey "0000" (not provided in MTP documentation). This achieves limited MTP/Windows functionality (cursor and "click" control only - with BC 3.1. BC 3.2 is supposed to provide more gestures, but I have not gotten there yet). Appears that when switching back to OS X, that passkey has remained with the MTP and is not what OS X is looking for, so it fails the connection. Removing/replacing the batteries probably dumps the passkey and allows the OS X connection. The Sr. Advisor says he sees this issue often (including with Windows 7) in their internal chat rooms, but no solution. He will be referring it to the engineers and will let me know the outcome. Meantime, assuming I keep the MTP, I'll have to resign myself to using a wired mouse when going to Windows (not a huge inconvenience, since it's only for Quicken; but the issue is worse than "in-elegant" for Apple!
I am satisfied that I have obtained the best possible help from Apple on this issue. If anybody has more, please reply.

  • Can't get networking to start on boot

    Hi,
I'm new to systemd and I think I might have screwed something up with it. I seem to recall that the network interface was called `eth0` during install, but now it is consistently `enp5s0`. I have to do the following on each boot to have an internet connection:
        ifconfig enp5s0 up && dhcpcd enp5s0
This works without a flaw, but I'm hesitant to put it in some automatically running script because I feel that's not where it should be. How can I properly configure my network?

Trilby wrote:Ideally you should be able to enable [email protected], but there is some oddity in how some service files take parameters, so you may have to edited the [email protected] file so it doesn't default to eth0.
You need to replace the "@eth0" in the install Alias with "@%I" or, for a 'hardcoded' solution for your system, replace it with "@enp5s0",
Alternately, once it's enabled, you could just rename the file appropriately.

  • Can't get past gray screen after Boot Camp Assistant

So last night I decided it was time to start experimenting with Boot Camp and Windows XP Pro. I fired up Boot Camp Assistant and allocated a 32gb partition of my HD for the XP install. When prompted, I put in the XP Pro CD and restarted. It booted into the XP install utility, but when asking about which partition to use, instead of the 32gb partition, all I saw was a 131gb partition. Thinking that it was my OS X partition, I decided to cancel out of the install and do some more investigating. When it restarted, all I got was a blank gray screen, no spinning gear, no logos, nothing. When rebooting while holding down a mouse button, I was able to eject the Windows XP cd. Here's what I've tried so far:
CDs: Leopard, Original OS X Disk 1, Windows XP, None
    Keys: none
    Result: Gray screen
    Keys: option
Result: Gray screen with mouse pointer that initially is moveable, but then freezes
    Keys: c
    Result: Gray screen
    Keys: d
    Result: Gray Screen
    Keys: shift
    Result: Gray Screen
    Keys: command + r + p
    Result: Gray Screen
    Holding power button
Result: Long tone while starting up, then gray screen.
What can I do?? I'm thinking that Boot Camp fried my HD partition data, but I can't seem to access any of the boot disks or any sort of disk utilities

I did. I took it into the Apple store and they replaced my hard drive. It was under warranty, so it wasn't a problem. I got them to give me my old hard drive back, which I hooked up to an external SATA enclosure. My mac recognized it, but said it wasn't initialized. I downloaded Data Rescue II and it recovered all of my software. I'm now using it as a Time Machine disk.
After further research, I found out the my main problem was that I used Windows XP SP1. You NEED to use SP2, otherwise, this problem will occur. I figured I could just upgrade later, but nope, you need a native SP2 disk.
If your Mac isn't under warranty, try this post:

    and his solution:

In short, you need another Leopard computer. I bet if you print out the instructions and take them to the Apple store with you, the Genius Bar will help you, they've always been super helpful/nice with me.
    Good luck!!

  • P67A-C43 (B3) boot loop after cpu cooler replacement

    Hi,
I built my system in September last year and it has worked fine until now.
    my components are:
    CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3,3GHz
    RAM: Corsair XMS3 DDR3 PC3-1333MHz 4x2GB
    GPU: Gigabyte GV-N460OC-1GI
    PSU: Corsair CX600
    And a old random HDD
I was inside the bios the other day an saw that the CPU temp was way to high (i believe it was 97c).
So i decided to decided to do a spring cleaning and replace the CPU cooler from the default to a new "Antec Kuhler H2O 620" that i bought a while ago and never installed. So i unplugged the computer and vacuumed the worst of the dust out of my case (A Antec Dark Fleet DF-85) and then i installed the new cooler.
When i pressed the power the computer powers on for about 4 seconds and (all 4 CPU led:s turns on) and then it reboots.
    So I started trouble shooting:
    I checked all cables.
I unplugged all sys fans to see if the new cooler was drawing to much power.
I removed my HDD and GPU.
Then i tried a lot of different ram switching and removing including removing all ram.
    I reset the cmos
I put the old cooler back in.
Finally i took the bored out of the case and put it on a table and tried to boot i there.
And i have not had any changes in behavior from any of the different changes.
My theory is that ether the mother board is broken or that the CPU burned.
So what do I do now? is there a way to test if the motherboard is broken whiteout a CPU or is there a way to see if my CPU is broken?

    Hi
Check in the mobo socket if there are no broken or damaged pins and some thermal paste is conductive might be some leftovers in the cpu.
I can not find any damage to board. I tock out the cpu and there only past on the cpu heat sink and the socket looks fine.
the new cooler had already past on it so i tock of the old from the cpu and used used the already existing on the cooler.

  • Can i get a mac mini to boot by default when plugged in?

I am searching very long for a solution for this:
I want my mac mini to start by plugging in or an external switch even if there was no power failure. (which can be set in the energy saver preferences, box checked))
I found a thread which partly seems to concern this question, but i am not sure, may be some members here with more knowledge than me could  help me, i would be very pleased:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12111266#12111266
    there i found the following:
"edited /usr/libexec/upsshutdown to send "shutdown -hu now" in both a normal shutdown or UPS shutdown. the -u simulates a dirty shutdown (see man shutdown) so when the UPS does powercycle it brings the Mac back online." posting by Glenn Gerrad
This seems to me as if i could use this change just to simulate dirty shut down indepenedent of having this APC UPS this thread is about, but i am not sure how to start this change for i am not used to work with the terminal and im afraid of ruining something because i am really unsure about the whole meaning of this thread. May be someone experienced can help me what to do?
    Thank you !
(at the moment i am using hibernate, which works but i would prefer restart, because i eperienced some strange things which i could avoid by a clean start up.)

1.) Open Automator (Applications) and choose "Application" on startup.
2.) Find "Run AppleScript" in the list on the left side
3.) Drag & Drop that action to the right side
4.) In the text field of the script insert
do shell script "sudo shutdown -hu now" with administrator privileges
5.) Save that application to your hard drive and you can double click it.
6.) When running that application you have to enter your password, and it will shutdown the mac.
7.) You can hard code your password to the program with
do shell script "sudo shutdown -hu now" with administrator privileges password "yourpassword"
But the password isn't encrypted in the Shell Script!
Be aware: double clicking that application will immediately shut down the computer without asking for saving changed  files - they'll be lost!
