Can't get Nano to shut off

I have a version 1.3.1 nano. It is a bear to get it to turn off. It will never shut off, pressing the pause/hold at the bottom of circle, if some music selection is not playing ... but then, I have to try and tinker with the Lock switch, off and on .. then pause and play then hold the pause a while and sometimes it shuts off
is there a workaround? other than a 5-pound hammer and an MP-3 ? I need the Nano to plg-in my Nike+ sensor gadget ....

You can try doing a Reset of the iPod, to see if it will restart

This is like rebooting you computer. The iPod is not erased. In case the battery is drained, you can try this while the iPod is connected to power.
If that does not help, try shutting down (powering off) the computer. Disconnect all USB devices, including USB hubs (except for standard keyboard and mouse if normally used). Start up the computer. Run iTunes. Connect the iPod to a direct USB port on the computer.

Try Force Quit. Press Alt key + Apple key which is to the right of the Alt key + Escape key top left all at the same time and and a force quit applications window should open. Highlight iphoto and click on the blue force quit in the bottom right.

I'm not sure what difference it makes if its a common problem or not but as its a hardware problem it needs to fixed so take it into an Apple store or authorized iPhone service provider and ask them what can be done.

I Have an Apple IPad tablet.it is a 32 gb. IOS 8.1.3 when I try to shut it down I know there use to be a bar that you slide to close it.but now I can't find it . TTry a reset. Hold down on the sleep AND home buttons at the same time - for 10 seconds or so - until the Apple Logo appears on the screen. When the logo appears, let go of the buttons and let the iPd start up. After it starts up, then try to shut down again.
BTW, I amost never shut my iPads or iPhone off. I simply let them sleep. I recharge the battery when needed but always while the iPads or phone is still powered up.

You don't transfer Apple ID's from one device to another one. You sign out in the settings, )the App Store and iTunes if necessary) and then sign in with the other ID.
Settings>iTunes & App Stores>Apple ID>Sign out. Them sign in with the other ID. You can sign out of the app store and iTunes as well by going to the featured Atab in the App Store and the music tab in iTunes, swipe to the bottom and access the Apple ID in there.
You should have erased the iOad before you gave it to her in Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings. That way she could set up the iPad as new with her own Apple ID.
Be aware of the fact that if you use each others ID's in order to download past purchased content to your own iPads, you will lock yourself out of your own ID as you will have associated your iPad with the other person's Apple ID.
In other words, if you sign into your wife's ID on your iPad so that you can download an app or an album so that you don't have to pay for it again, you will lock yourself out of your Apple ID for 90 days.

You may need to hold the sleep/wake button and the home button until the apple logo appears. Or anther thing you can try is draining the battery until the battery is dead. That's what i tried and worked. You may need to do those things more than 2 times. OH anther thing is you can try connecting you ipod to your computer and see if it appears on itunes. If those don't work you can send it to apple. So that's what helped me I hope I answered your question.

Can't get shuffle to turn off

can't get shuffle to turn off, have reset ipod, synced with itunes, everything i can think of.

How in the world did you figure that out? I was going crazy trying to get it to turn off. Should I keep Shake to Shuffle turned off? If you want it to shuffle do you just reverse the process? One last thing, what is the little icon on the other side for? I had to turn it off as well to get shuffle to stop. Thanks planb.

I can't get filevault to turn off. I go to system preferences and click turn off and it looks like its about to then its comes up wit a message saying cannot turn filevault off...error...then it says its going to stay on my home folder..I need to turn it off so I can acess my Pro Tools program...also I think that is why some other applications are acting funny...like itunes keeps saying its library is damaged and makes a new one everytime i start the application...also when im on safari it keeps asking about a keychain...

Hi mom, the best solution would be to create a new admin user account and restore your data from your most recent backup.
The damaged FileVault image is encrypted data within a disk image file. None of the repair utilities will be able to do much with it if you aren't able to enter your password and have the volume available in its unencrypted form for repairs. So if it won't mount then back-up the sparseimage to DVD or another hard drive just in case technology makes it possible to recover later and get on with your new <empty> user account.
System Preferences > Accounts > "+" to add a new user.
Click the Security button on the user account screen and check the box at the bottom "Allow user to administer this computer"
Because FileVault images are not generally recoverable, you should at least consider disabling it for all the other accounts on the system as well or setup a regular, frequent backup for each sparseimage file.

Try this to start:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
