Can't get on line using Airport extreme.

Today I switched to cable modem and when I am connected directly to modem I get on line easily. However connecting via Airport extreme I can not get on line. Not sure if I am connected correctly. Which port does modem cable go in? Which port does cable to computer go in? Anyone else having this problem?

The cable modem must be cabled to the Airport Extreme WAN port - it is labelled with a "circle of dots" icon.
After cabling the two together, pull power to both the modem and the Base Station for five minutes or more. Then plug the modem into power and wait a minute. Then plug Base Station into power and wait for it to boot up. Then see what happens.

  • Can't get on-line with Airport Extreem

    Hi all,
this is my first post on this forum. I have tried to set-up a wired network using Airport Extreme between a Mac Mini and a G5 1.8 Dual. I was able to see each computer over the network but I could not get internet access.
I tried the unplug every thing route but that did not help. I am hooked up to the internet through a cable modem and can get to the internet without using the Airport Extreme going straight to the ethernet connection on the back of the computers.
    What am I doing wrong?

Well now I can get on-line on the Mac Mini (the computer used to configure the Airport Extreme) but I still can't get on-line on the G5.

  • Can't get MacBook to "see" Airport Extreme

Last week I bought an Airport Extreme to enable me to direct stream NetFlix on my new Samsung DVD player. To save my life I cannot get my MacBook to recognize the Extreme. I've tried Airport Utility with no luck. I go back to Express and everything is hunky-dory. Oh, one time, I almost got it to accept both Express and Extreme but it kept asking Express for a password. I have never put a password on Express. I feel something as plain as the nose on my face is there but can't get it to work. Also, I am using a Comcast modem. Thanks for any help!

Hmmm, posted too quickly. Sorry. Just ran a search on this. Going to try other suggestions first.

  • Can't get security to work - Airport Extreme card and Netgear router

This apparently is not as simple an issue as I expected, so I would appreciate some help.
I just got dsl and a Netgear WGT624 wireless router to connect my wife's iBook G4 with AirPort Extreme card. I used a wired-in pc to set up the router via the web interface and can connect the iBook to the web wirelessly as long as I have security disabled. When I attempt to set WEP or WPA the connection fails.
Initially, I assumed I just was missing something in the AirPort setup, even after looking through all the documentation I could find. I upgraded yesterday from 10.3.3 to 10.3.9, just to see, but had no improvement.
If I select "WPA-PSK(TKIP)" in the router, it asks for a password, which I also then enter to login to the selected network via Internet Connect. I get "there was an error joining..."
If I select "WEP" with 64 bit and shared key options, use the same password to automatically generate the assorted keys, I am not sure what to enter to login. I have received incorrect password messages or no response at all.
I would appreciate any further direction or suggestions.
    Thanks

One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

"WPA Personal" on the Mac corresponds to plain WPA, with a pre-shared key (PSK) and TKIP encryption, on non-Apple wireless routers. The same alphanumeric password should work on both.

  • Can't connect windows xp using airport extreme to internet

Hi i just purchased my airport extreme base station. I tried connecting it to my windows xp for internet and so i can have wireless connection to my macbook.
Im using timewarner cable as my ISP connected through ethernet. I choose DHCP in the configuration to detect IP address provided but I couldn't connect and it tells me invalid IP address.. (i followed the instruction from the manual)... I tried to do it manually then I typed my IP address, but it asks for
    1. Subnet Mask- not sure so I just went by whats default which is 255.255.0.0
    2. router address- I dont know where to get this.. tried 10.0.1.1, 10.0.1.2, 192.168... no clue where to get this...
The light was on amber when I used DHCP (automatic)- which gives me error of wrong IP address
After I did it manually with my IP address its now green still no internet connection (problem is probably subnet mask and router address)
    can anybody help please?

I tried connecting it to my windows xp for internet...
The cable modem should be powered off and connected to the WAN port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS). The PC should be connected to one of the AEBS's LAN ports.
Configure the AEBS to use the same settings as the PC was using to connect to the Internet. The PC should now be configured to use DHCP and Ethernet to get on the Internet.

  • Can't get my laptop and airport extreme to work together

    Hi,
I can't get a green light on my base. Also, when I try and set up the computer to do the wireless thing it's prompting me to enter all this info that I don't have...like network password, info, connection...where would I find that info? Sorry if I'm being vague...it seems to be alot of work to connect! I keep reading posts about it being so easy!

hi DelilahBelle - maybe consider the following steps:
1.) establish a valid connection with your dsl-provider. to do so: connect your modem to your computer using your mostly yellow ethernet-cable (so at the moment no wireless established). then check if you can access the internet thru safari.
1.a) if not, configure first your modem and the dsl-connection in the right way. you can use safari and enter the modem's tcp/ip-(routerside-)adress (e.g. 192.168.1.1 for a netopia modem) and you will get the modemrouters menue. to configure the modem you must have some information from your dsl-provider (at&t, swisscom, t-online whatever):
    - your userid and password to validate yourself in the login process
    - maybe dns1 and dns2 adresses a.s.o. (if you have a simple network it's not required)
1.b) if ok, ensure your modem is set to DHCP (dynamic tcp/adress management). maybe you have to set this parameter in your modem using its routers menue. then every component in your network will get a dynamic tcp/ip adress
2.) connect your airport express to the modem with the ethernet cable. do a hard reset with your airport express. afterthat select and configure your airport express using the airport express utility version 5.2.1 (program, utility folder) using its assistant. after finishing you should get a green light on the express and you should be able to go on the internet thru safari
2.a) if not, select the airport express in the utility and double-click twice on its icon. you will get the summary screen from the airport express. there you will see a yellow spot. click left there and you will get another window where the error is explained ...
    2.b) be happy
3.) if your network is more complicated then follow maybe this
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1087373&tstart=0
but anyway step 1 and 2 i would are the base for any extension.

  • Can't Connect to Internet using AirPort Extreme Card and DLink Router

I have tried just about everything, but I can't seem to connect my MAC OS X 10.3.9 to the internet. I am using the Airport Extreme Card and no networks show up. I am trying to connect to my DLink router. I was told by DLink that it is compatible with AirPort Extreme cards, but the guys at Best Buy were unable to connect to their wireless routers, other than their Mac Router. Please let me know if you have a solution! Thanks

    What Mac do you have?
Do you have iMac G5 or a Power Mac G5?
Did you install the AirPort Extreme card yourself?

  • I can't get in to my Airport Extreme from Mavericks ?

Does anyone know of any other tool I can use to change some configuration parameters ?
Has Apple abandoned all AirPort Extrem users who use Mavericks as OS? - or is there an update coming to the AirPort Utility 5.6 App ?

That's what I was afraid to hear... well I guess I'll just have to wait a few days for my wife to arrive (she has not upgraded to Mavericks yet..) .
I'ts a shame because the old "dome" Airport is a very nice design ...

  • How do you use Airport extreme at hotels etc, when traveling? I can plug my computer into the Airport with my ethernet but how does Airport pickup signal?

How do you use Airport extreme at hotels etc, when traveling? I can plug my computer into the Airport with my ethernet but how does Airport pickup signal? What equipment & devices do I need to travel with to make this possible?

You may mean the AirPort Express.....not AirPort Extreme.....as the Express is a popular travel router.
The whole idea behind using this device is that the hotel must provide an Ethernet jack in the hotel room. Then you connect the AirPort Express to the Ethernet jack with an Ethernet cable and configure it to provide your own wireless network in the room. You still have to agree to terms, pay the fees, etc.
The problem with this approach is that it is getting very difficult to find hotels in North America that prrovide an Ethernet jack....most have moved to wireless networks and the others are not far behind.
So, if the hotel is already providing a wireless signal, the AirPort Express is of no use in that situation.
If you normally stay at the same hotels, and know that they provide Ethernet ports, an AirPort Express might make sense in terms of convenience.

  • How do I use AirPort Extreme to be able print from my MacBook Pro AND a PC. If I connect printer into AirPort, I can only print on laptop. If printer is connected to PC hard drive, I can only print on desk top. How do I configure this to make both print?

If you have not already done so, your chances will really improve if you....
    1) Connect the printer to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme
    2) Download and install Bonjour Print Services for Windows on the PC

  • Can you use airport extreme as a bridge to netgear wdnr4500 wireless router

can you use airport extreme as a bridge with a netgear  wndr4500 router.I need to extend my wireless connections to the other side of the house

can you use airport extreme as a bridge with a netgear  wndr4500 router.
This is extremely unlikely. The AirPort Extreme can provide this function with other Apple routers, but as far we know, it is not compatible with products from other manufacturers for this purpose.
Suggest that you use a Netgear product for the best chance of compatibility.

    Hi,
This is currently not supported by iOS for any devices. Rumour is that iOS 5 will finally add this function, until then I'm afraid you are stuck with the good old cable.

  • Can you use airport extreme 802.11n for files backup

Can you use airport extreme 802.11 for files back up and sharing

You can if you connect a hard drive that has been formatted correctly to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme.
Apple does not officially support Time Machine backups for this type of setup, but you could store regular files this way.

  • Can I print from my iPad using airport extreme?

Can I print from my iPad using airport extreme 802.11n ?

iOS devices use AirPrint to print directly to a printer. That would require a printer that is AirPrint-ready. Unfortunately, just connecting a non-AirPrint-ready printer to the USB or Ethernet ports of the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), will NOT enable it for AirPrint.
