Can't get OneStep iDVD going

I am trying to quickly make DVD's from tapes on my Sony DCR-TRV520 NTSC camcorder. Time is short so OneStep iDVD sounded ideal altho basic. I can't get it going on my PowerBook G4 or my wife's iMac G5, both running 10.4.3 Most of the time the camera isn't seen but occasionally the program starts up then says something like "no video was transferred" and then aborts. This sounded so beautifully simple for someone not attempting sophisticated mulimedia presentations, but it ain't working for me. Any ideas would be appreciated. (I have tried both -RW and +RW type DVD's).

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure about the 16 bit audio part. I ended up creating the movie first, as you suggested, and it really came out well since that caused me to go ahead and add chapters etc. I was initially looking for a quick and dirty way to get the tape on DVD but it's much better with the fat edited out. It's still irritating that a new feature (Direct to DVD) that Apple makes such a big deal about doesn't work. Maybe it's because I'm using a 14 yr old Camcorder but it is on the list of supported ones. I did call Apple support but I don't think the guy know what I was talking about (it was on a Saturday). Thanks again.

  • Where can I get an idvd?

I bought a new macbook pro with lion. I have iPhoto and iMovie pre-installed but can not creat home made dvd from them. Find out that I need idvd for making home movie and dvd. Should idvd be pre-installed in new mac as a package of iLife?  Where can I get an idvd? Please help!

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can  create and run a new library then your original library is damaged.
In that case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If the problem persists with the new, test library then a reinstall of iPhoto is warranted. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto from the ilife 11 disk and run all necessary updaters. You can get them from the Apple Downloads page. Go to that page and search for iPhoto 9.  The 5 updaters will be listed.

  • When in iMovie I can't get to iDVD.  I try share and iDVD, but it won't open.

I am having trouble burning a DVD from iMovie.  My project is selected, prepared, and then nothing happens.  For whatever reason iDVD will not open.

You can still get it, just not from Apple. If you buy it somewhere like Amazon or eBay make sure that you get the old version http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MC623Z-A-iLife-VERSION/dp/B003XKRZES/ref=sr_1_1?ie=U TF8&qid=1362780369&sr=8-1&keywords=iLife

  • Just bought an Apple computer. have imovie. do not have idvd. where can I get the idvd application for imovie.

Just bought an apple computer with a compatible movie camera. using the imovie11 app. that came with computer is a great app. only problem is I can't burn a single project. It say's, share with iDVD, but their is no program called iDVD anywhere. why can't I use iDVD and where can I obtain this program.

I bought an IMac a few weeks ago, created a slideshow on IPhoto only to learn that there was no IDVD to burn it. It is available on ILife11 but if you have just spent a considerable ammount of money on your Mac, why then should you have to spend yet more of your hard earned cash on a DVD burning program, especially when you have 3 of the 5 apps that come with ILife11 already?
I called Apple Support, spoke to an advisor who was understanding but really just tells you that it isn't shipped with Lion OS anymore. You then have to insist, politely, of course, to speak to a senior advisor, (if the advisor himself isn't compassionate enough to suggest that himself).
If you can, request a 'callback' where they call you (they pay the call charges), air your grievances calmly & you should receive a free hard copy of ILife 11. The standard Apple support advisor won't have the authority to grant you anything more than a compassionate ear so you must speak to a senoir advisor. I received my free copy of ILife11 in the post a week later. It worked for me, it has worked for others so it should work for you.
Good luck, keep calm & maintain your creativity!

  • Can't get OneStep to work

I have my sony DVD cam hooked up, DVD-R in SuperDrive. Camera works with this machine but when I click on Onestep icon, it just gives me a message to hookup camera and load dvd. I'm in a loop. Everytime I click onestep icon, I get the message to load camera and dvd. Then I click ok and I'm back to the icon menu. Click on onestep again, get message, click ok...etc., etc. Onestep never loads up. Any ideas?

    Hi Aaron
    Answer - No
    Ideas - Yes
My guess is that there is a fault in iDVD pref file and to solve this there are
    at least two ways.
    - delete the faulty file - iDVD will make a new fresh one. But You have to know
where it is and it's name (don't for the moment)
    - start a new account, log-out of this one and into the new one. There are
no pref file in this new one and iDVD has to create a fresh one.
Slightly tricky to find the iMovie/iDVD project but most probably in the folder
"USERS" and under the previous log-in name. Desktop ?? or Movies or Documents or?
    Good Luck Bengt W

  • How can I get my iDVD project from my iMac to my MBPro?

I created a slideshow on my iMac in iPhoto, sent it to iDVD, and then burned the slideshow to a disc from iDVD. I'd like to have the iDVD project on my MBPro, too, but everything I've tried doesn't work!
I've read the posts saying that archiving the iDVD project would work...I did that on my iMac and burned it to a disc to transfer it. Well, the archiving made an "Alias" of the iDVD file, and when I tried to open it on my MBPro I got an error message that it "couldn't be opened because the original file can not be found". Of course not! The "original" file is on my iMac!)
Any help would really be appreciated...I'm not real familiar with the whole iDisk thing, but I was wondering if that might work??

I actually did do File/Archive when I archived it; still not sure why it created an alias that I can't work with...I'm pretty sure though that the project is an ok size for a DVD; it's about 25 minutes total, WAY less than 4.7GB that the disk holds. And, I had burned a copy of the final iDvd file to a DVD-R before I decided I wanted to have the file on my MBPro.
Still hoping to find out how I can transfer this file from Mac to Mac...but, thanks for your input!

  • Can I get podcast producer going on my Macbook?

I make tutorial videos for classes I teach.  Podcast producer looks like a good option for me. I gather I need podcast capture too.  Is it worth it for me to buy OS X Lion and the Lion server just for that purpose?  Otherwise, I'm looking at buying something like Camtasia so that I can record my screen and voice.

Podcast Producer is, as you say, part of OSX Server and is outside my experience (though I would have thought that what you suggest was going a complicated route to achieve your ends). The best place to ask would be in the OSX Lion Server Forum.

  • Can't access bookmarks that overflow across the toolbar. They are there but can only get them by going into bookmarks toolbar in menu. They used to display off to side when you clicked next to last item. Can I fix this?

This feature always worked before. Then one day it stopped. Can access overflow items on bookmarks toolbar through menu, but rarely across the top. The ones that don't fit across the top can't be brought up anymore.

  • Can't set up my email. I use StartLogic but can only get my mail going to their site.

SL gave me some numbers for the in and out ports but I only saw one port in Advanced.
    Thanks

    Hi Annie,
Make sure when you are setting up your e-mail account that you enter in your entire e-mail address.  If you have a Yahoo (includes any e-mail account associated with Yahoo), G-mail, or Aol after entering in your password it should automatically set up.  Any other e-mail address you will have to manually set the account up.

  • My brand new iMac doesn't appear to have the iDVD application - how can I get it?

How can I get the iDVD application for my new iMac.  I want to use iDVD for conveniently making DVDs of iPhoto slide shows and iMovies.  I'd be greatful for any help.  I've already tried looking through my applications, the App Store, and various Apple help menus in Lion and the Apple Tech Support Web page - so far no luck, but perhaps I'm not seeing things right.

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that nothing could be further from the truth has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD.

  • I can't get ser2net to run

I'm posting this here because there's probably some newbie mistake that I'm making but I don't know what it is.  For those who don't know ser2net lets you connect a serial cable to a device and then other computers on your network can access that device over the web.  I have used this successfully on Debian/Ubuntu (on this same network and PC) but I'm new to Arch and I can't get this working.
I installed ser2net just fine with pacman -S ser2net.  I found and edited the /etc/ser2net.conf file.  On Ubuntu I'm accustomed to starting this program with /etc/init.d/ser2net restart but I can't find that folder within Arch.  I tried to start the service with systemctl enable ser2net.service.  Apparently this isn't how it should be started as I can't get a connection going.  When I use systemctl status ser2net.service I get the following:
ser2net.service - Proxy that allows tcp connections to serial ports
              Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/ser2net.service; enabled)
Active: inactive (dead) since Wed 1969-12-31 19:00:10 EST; 43 years 4 months ago
             Process: 179 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/ser2net (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
            Main PID: 182 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
              CGroup: name=systemd:/system/ser2net.service
Can someone tell me how ser2net should be enabled?  I want it to start at boot up.

slink wrote:I have tried systemctl enable ser2net and I rebooted afterwards.  When the machine came back up I still didn't have a working ser2net and I still got the same output from systemctl status ser2net.
Really? It still said ser2net has been dead for 43 years and exited successfully? Because those sound like default values for a service that has never been started. What was the output of the enable command? You say you "tried it"; did it succeed or fail? If it succeeded, you should have a symlink to ser2net.service in /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/.
How about just starting it yourself to see if it works at all?
    # systemctl start ser2net

  • Where can I get games for tuxnes?

I've installed tuxnes but am not quite sure how to use it or where to get games for it.  Can anybody get me started going in the right direction?  I'd appreciate it.

TuxNES in an emulator for NES games. These games are still under copyright, so it's illegal to distribute copies of them online. If you have an actual NES, you can buy an attachment that allows you to copy the games to a disk that you can use to get them onto your hard drive.
The illegality of distributing NES games doesn't stop some people, so if you're willing to break the law (it's highly unlikely there will be any consequences, game companies generally turn a blind eye), Google will find plenty of sites to help you out.

  • I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have bought a copy of Apple iLife 11 on dvd a so that I can install iWeb and idvd, when I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate

I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have just bought Apple iLife 11 on dvd so that I can install iWeb and iDVD, as macs no longer ship with these apps. When I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate.
Next problem is that when moving through the installer and get to custom install, as I only want to install iDVD and iWeb, I am presented with the option to install iDVD, Sounds & Jingles and iWeb, but not sure what is going on with the other 3 options iLife Support etc, they seem to be greyed out but still look like they may install over the top of the newer versions already on my imac. Is it ok for me to just go ahead and hit install? Or do I have a problem?

Yep, just install iDVD (plus sounds and jingles) and iWeb if you want it (but note that iWeb apparently won't work if you upgrade to Mountain Lion).
Then use Software Update to get any late iDVD updates.

  • Can I get iDVD 5?

I have iLife '05 which I purchased a long time ago. It came with both an install CD and an install DVD. The CD only contains iMoveHD, iTunes and iPhoto. The DVD has those three plus iDVD and GarageBand. My problem is that I can't find the DVD... I'm trying to reinstall everything but all I have is the CD, which means I can't reinstall iDVD or GarageBand. Is there some way that since I have the CD I can download the other two that aren't on the CD... or can I get a replacement DVD somehow? Hopefully without having to pay for it since I did already buy the software...

With the price that iLife 05 is going for, you may as well get the newest version that your Mac can handle. (Be certain to check the system requirements prior to purchasing any version)

  • I am trying to get space on an external hard drive which has some old time machine back up files that I do not need but can not eliminate, even by going into the time machine, clicking on the backup file to be eliminated and using the drop down eliminate

I am trying to get space on an external hard drive which has some old time machine back up files that I do not need but can not eliminate, even by going into the time machine, clicking on the backup file to be eliminated and using the drop down menu with the gear box symbol to eliminate

I cannot find this 300GB "Backup" in the Finder, only in the Storage info when I check "About This Mac".
You are probably using Time Machine to backup your MacBook Pro, right? Then the additional 300 GB could be local Time Machine snapshots.  Time Machine will write the hourly backups to the free space on your hard disk, if the backup drive is temporarily not connected. You do not see these local backups in the Finder, and MacOS will delete them, when you make a regular backup to Time Machine, or when you need the space for other data.
See Pondini's page for more explanation:   What are Local Snapshots?   http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
I have restarted my computer, but the information remains the same. How do I reclaim the use of the 300GB? Why is it showing up as "Backups" when it used to indicate "Photos"? Are my photos safe on the external drive?
You have tested the library on the external drive, and so your photos are save there.
The local TimeMachine snapshot probably now contains a backup of the moved library.  Try, if connecting your Time Machine drive will reduce the size of your local Time Machine snapshots.
