Can't get online with Macbook Pro

I have a Macbook Pro from 2009 and am having trouble connecting to my home network. The desktop PC has internet connection which is how I posted this message, so I am assuming that my home network or the router are not the problems.
The same problem occured for me earlier yesterday while I was at University but I just assumed that the network was slow on campus. It wasn't until I got hot and couldn't connect to my own network with my Macbook that I became suspicious.
Can anyone help me with this issue? I've disconnected the router in my basement and reconnected it to ensure it wasn't my network having problems. I've reset Safari and emptied my Cache to determine if that might help. I'm all out of ideas, if anyone has any troubleshooting tips I would greatly appreciate it.
My agreement for technical support with Apple expired and I would really like to avoid paying $50+ for a 30 day agreement for one problem. Thanks!

We'll need some more information.
When you try to connect what are you seeing?
When you go to Network Settings (System Preferences > Network) what does it report? Does Wi-Fi say Off or On? (This image is from an iMac connected via wire to the network but I wanted to give you an example of the screen).  Does your Wi-Fi say Connected or off?
Do you see something similar in Wi-Fi as what I have shown below for Ethernet? Basically does your Wi-Fi in "Status" say "Connected. Wi-Fi is currently active and has the IP address xx.xx.xx.xx."?  If it does not then you are not even seeing the Wi-Fi network.

I can't either, I hook up the Motif via USB and change it to USB and my Mac doesn't see the device under Audio Midi, such an expensive Keyboard and it's going to waste. Half the reason I got a mac was to use it with my keyboard, never thought I'd have so much trouble. I'm using the AMS but it never registers and Logic Pro never sees any device. Not that I know how to use Logic Pro.

    Did you install the drivers?

    Hi,
Also try turning Off Face Time
    Open Face Time
    Go to the Preferences
    Set it to Off.
Also make sure your router has the Time and Date/Time Zone set as this upsets Face Time which in turn upsets IChat

  • Can I get a new macbook pro under the warranty?

Its been two months since I got my macbook pro. I got the newer 2011 version. Less than a month into getting it my keys started falling off and less than 2 months later my hard drive went out for no reason and I had to get it replaced. And now my other keys are all falling off too. I don't understand. I feel like I was sold a refurbished mac because everything keeps breaking. Do you think its better to just get a new macbook pro? Is that even possible? I also feel like it takes a while to turn on than when I first got it. How long is the normal start up time?

If you have had this Mac for less then a year then the computer is still under warranty.
I also feel like it takes a while to turn on than when I first got it. How long is the normal start up time?
It depends. If you have applications set to launch when you startup the Mac, that can slow down the amount of time it takes to boot your Mac.
Open System Preferences > Users & Groups then select the Login Items tab.

How do I get a newly purchased Macbook Pro to turn on - all I get is a blinking folder with "?" on a gray screen?

Take it back where it was purchased. Include all packaging and take your dated receipt. You can request an exchange or your money back within the first 14 days from date of purchase. Don't delay.

  • How much can I get for my Macbook Pro?

I'm in the market for a new Macbook Pro, thus I'm looking to sell my old one. It's a 2006 model, and it has a few dents and scratches as a result of frequent use and carrying it around.
Processor = 2 GHz Intel Core Duo
    Memory = 2 GB
    Hard Drive = 500 GB
It's fully operational, runs smoothly and everything, but there are two main flaws: Number one, the battery has died, so it only works when the charger is plugged in. I can easily replace the battery, though. The other problem is that the motherboard is acting a bit weird. Every now and then the computer will completely freeze up, forcing a restart. This is the main reason I'm in the market for a new one.
With all of this being said, can anyone give an estimate on how much I should expect for it? The motherboard issue is the main flaw, so I'm not expecting to be able to sell it for some crazy amount. Maybe someone can use it for parts or something. Any estimates? Thanks.

Apple has their recycle deal through PowerON Services, and BestBuy will give you an estimate online (you get the most if you take a gift card, less if you want a check). Since both are looking to make a profit off of the recycled machines, you'll get less than a private sale, but for an older parts machine, maybe not that much less.
My 5 year old powerbook G4, which does still work fine, has a still mildly useful battery and is very good cosmetically was only worth about $164 according to the BestBuy site (which I was actually pleasantly surprised about, since I figured it was only worth about half that).

  • Can't get new 15in Macbook Pro to work.

So I just bought my first Macbook Pro, halfway through the startup process it froze so I decided to reboot it. When I started it back up it stayed on a white screen and it had the "no" symbol, then switched to a symbol of a folder with a question mark.
I asked a friend of mine who owns a Mac and he said it was probably because Snow Leopard was not yet installed into the computer. So I inserted the startup DVD for Snow Leopard and the computer booted into the Mac OS X Installer and let me get to the point where it asks you to select the disk where you want to install Mac OS X.
The only problem is that it's telling me that it can't start up from my Hard Drive.
School starts for me in a few days and I really need to figure out how to get my Macbook up and running. Please help.

    Hi Daniel,
Sounds like your friend may be right and there may be no OS for the system to boot from. I take it you bought this used?
If the installer won't install Snow Leopard to your hard drive there are only two reasons I can think of. Either the drive simply is not formatted correctly, which is easy to fix, or the drive broken. The former being more likely.
Can you launch Disk Utility from the installation menu? When you boot into the installer, you should see a menu bar across the top of the screen, one of the options being 'Utilities'. From there, launch 'Disk Utility'. Once in Disk Utility select your drive from the left hand side and then select 'Partition' from the right hand side. Format the drive with 1 partition and format as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". After thats done, quit Disk Utility and continue through with installed. If the drive is working properly, it should now allow you to install Snow Leopard to it.
If you did buy it used, there is a possibility that the previous owner wiped the drive before selling and didn't format it correctly.
    Hope that helps

  • How can I get my '010 Macbook Pro to use the entire HDTV screen?

I have both my late '09 MacMini and mid-'010 Macbook Pro connected to my HDTV with HDMI cables.
The Displays pane of System Preferences on the Macmini gives me the options of 1080p and 60 hZ, which use all of the HDTV screen.
However, on the Macbook Pro I only get resolution options.
The HDTV (Sharp Aquos 46") gives me only Stretch, SuperStretch, Dot-by-Dot, and Zoom options. I use Dot-by-Dot because
the others, while the use all of the HDTV's horizontal space, cut off either the top of the display (Title Bar), the bottom (Dock), or both.
Is there any way for the Macbook Pro to use all the HDTV's "real estate" like the MacMini does?

If your MBP can use it, I highly recommend the following adapter:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/Moshi_Mini_DisplayPort_to_HDMI_Adapt er
I'd be very surprised if it doesn't have a capable mini DisplayPort, since my not-quite-one-year-old MBP does.  But to be sure, first make sure you've got a mini DisplayPort, then scroll down on the page above and find a user comment titled "How you know if it is supported w/o guessing."

  • How can I use airplay with Macbook Pro 9,2 Mid 2012/ Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5

What do I need to do to play Airplay on Apple TV from my computer.  The option is not in my display setting, so, obviously, I do not have the capability.  Do i need to upgrade my software?

    You can't.
    About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

  • Can't get online with 10.4.11?????

I have a 2.16 GHz Intel iMac and updated to 10.4.11 and now I'm unable to get online w/ mail, safari, itunes, etc. I'm wireless with a Belkin N1 router. My good ol' iBook 10.3.9 is working fine, so I know my modem and router are working. I've read other threads on the topic but I'm still having trouble. Any wise MacGuru out there who can walk me through this?

Well, I am able to browse the internet again, and actually i still don't know why exactly i wasn't before. The update seems to have fondled a bit with my network settings, the ip-address that I received from my local network had changed to a 192 number while normally this is a 172 number. After updating the network settings (actually nothing has changed, just some back and forth-changing) it got the right ip again and internet worked. I have actually no clue about the reason why it keeps changing ip's. Strange update this 10.4.11. Now I manually have changed my ip-address, hope it keeps working.

  • HELP!!!! Can't do anything with MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro keeps booting from the Tech Tool Pro CD I was using to repair the volume structure on the hard drive. Problem is, I can't get it to boot from the repaired hard drive, because none of the startup keyboard commands work!!!
Holding down D doesn't boot from the hard drive
Holding down Option doesn't give me a choice of startup volumes
Holding down the eject key (or the mouse button) doesn't eject the disc
Holding Command-Option-P-R doesn't reset the RAM
Even plugging in an external USB keyboard and mouse and using these commands doesn't work. In each case, the computer re-boots from the Tech Tool Pro CD, which essentially renders the computer useless.
    Does ANYONE have ANY ideas?

    Try resetting your SMC.
