Can't Get Past White Screen

My MacBook will not boot past the white startup screen. I inserted the recovery disk, but it would not recognize it when booted with the C key. I tried to eject the disk, and it would not recognize that action either. Do I have any other options?

Do you get an icon of a blinking folder with a question mark? Could be a HD failure actually.

  • Can't get past white screen when laotop is turned on

How can I get my MacBook to boot, won't get past white screen.  Battery is fine.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Sounds like it could be a problem with the hard disk.
You can diagnose and perhaps repair the problem (if the hard disk still runs, but has errors) with these instructions:

Just realized that you're running OS X 10.7 Lion

Restart your MBP holding the trackpad down and hopefully the disk will be ejected.  Then try to return it and get a refund or put it in the trash.  There is nothing that software does for your MBP that you cannot do yourself or with free software.
If can get your MBP started, delete all traces of the offending software.  Worst case is that you may have to erase the HDD and reload the OS and your user data.  I trust that you have a backup (minus MacTuneUp).
Courcoul has given you his opinion in a very succinct manner, and as you might surmise, I agree with him.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook keeps restarting, can't get past icon screen

I had to correct my permissions because I couldn't edit my address book and ical. Everything was working fine last night after I did the permission fixes. But when I booted up my Mac tonight, the farthest I could get was the white screen with the Apple icon and the animated circle. After a few minutes, the laptop will reboot itself and continued to do that for 30 minutes. I can't get past that screen. What is going on? How do I fix this? I finally turned off the Mac and am using my Dell.

The question mark on the file tells you that your MacBook wants to start up but can't find a viable OS to start from. Can you start up from the DVD that came with your Mac? If so, go to Disk Utility and see if you can repair the internal hard drive. If you can't see the hard drive from within DU, your drive may have failed, and you may need to replace it. Good luck.

Sure, you can get around it if you don't need the newest version of iTunes. I still use version 7.5 because the newer versions didn't strike me as offering anything I needed.
If you do need a version 10-something then you will have to upgrade your operating system to Leopard (fi your computer will support it) at least.  If you need 10.5 for some reason then there's no getting around it, you will have to buy a new computer.

  • On my wife's iPad mini I can't get past the screens accepting the software license to upgrade over WiFi

On my wife's iPad mini I can't get past the screens accepting the software license to upgrade iOS over WiFi.
Works if I do it over iTunes on my desktop.
I get the screens to agree to the software license (twice) then it sits there until I get impatient. like 30-60 seconds. Have tried a hard boot but have to connect it to the computer each time. Latest was when I upgraded to 8.2

Have you tried resetting the device?
Hold down the home and lock buttons until you see an Apple Logo, then release the buttons.
If that doesn't work, you should check to see if you have a backup because you may have to restore your device.

Even when go on voice control screen and hold power off and home screen down nothing No response. Help please? My mother very sick in hospital and need my mobile!!

Have you tried to power off and on?  If that doesn't work and the reset didn't work, have you tried connecting to iTunes to see if it is recognized?
If none of this works you probably need to visit an Apple genius bar and have it checked out by the techs.

  • Can't get past white loading a screen after restoring from time machine backup

I am aware there are others threads of my problem however they date back years ago and after trying their solutions it still does not work.
After using Time Machine to restore my hard drive from a backup, I can't get past the white loading screen with apple logo after system restart during restore process. Ive gone into disk utility and repaired hard drive - it's fine. So I know this is a software glitch. I've also tried resetting SMC & PRAM (whatever those mean). No success and i cannot get past the white loading screen.
I'm running Mavericks (latest) on a late 2009 iMac. Thank you!

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • Won't get past white screen on shutdown/restart

When I choose shut down or restart on my 2012 rMBP, it logs out and moves to the white screen. From what I've seen, for an unlimited time.
When it does this (which I think is every time), my only option is press-and-hold standby key - which I hate doing!
This has been a problem since before Mavericks. I've tried resetting pram, repairing permissions etc etc. any other advice?
Even just a list of things to check which I may have already would be appreciated so I can discount them.

Been looking for a solution to this for ages and still no luck.
Even when I boot up in Safe Mode I still get infinite white screen when I shut down!!
