Can't get photos off Touch 3g

tl:dr I have a lot of pics on an older iPod Touch that I can only look at but not actually do anything with, and for some reason are no longer on my iCloud; I want to back up these pics so I'm not worried about the only copies being on a unit that could die any day.
full version:
I had a 4th gen iPod Touch some time ago, and took a lot of photos with it. A friend gave me a second-hand 3rd gen Touch, and when I signed in under my Apple ID it automatically grabbed all the photos that were on the 4th gen. The 4th gen got stolen, but I still had the pics. All this was over a year ago.
The headphone jack on the 3rd gen is completely screwed (I was using a Bluetooth speaker to listen to music at work), so recently I finally got a 5th gen Touch that I can actually listen to properly. For some reason, the older pics never got added to the 5th gen when I initialized it, and when I look at my iCloud photos on my laptop, all I see are the pics I've taken on the new unit. I have about 230 pictures on the 3rd gen that I don't want to lose, but I can't find them anywhere else.
And here's the part that makes this even worse, from the moment all those pics got backed up to the 3rd gen, they existed in this weird sort of limbo, where I could view them and I could organize them into albums, but I couldn't delete or edit any of them. this ***** because there's a lot of pics there that I really really want to delete, but at least I still have the ones I want.
I don't want these pics to vanish into the ether if (when) the 3rd gen finally dies completely. I want the option to restore the 3rd gen so I can jailbreak it and have some fun (again, before it dies). Can anyone help me get my pictures out of limbo? Why does performing a standard backup not put these pictures somewhere I can access them?
edit to add: in iTunes I'm afraid to click "Sync Photos" for this iPod because my past experience with syncing podcasts tells me that it will DELETE all photos currently on the unit and REPLACE them with whatever folder I select, which is the opposite of what I want, so unless you're 1000% certain that this won't happen, don't say "just sync your photos".

but all of these are pictures that were taken with the 4th gen's camera and were initially backed up to iCloud automatically, and then automatically downloaded to the 3rd gen when I initialized it. if it was stuff that I added to it manually, I'd understand, but this is all automatic native Apple/iCloud stuff, there should just be some box for me to tick that says "hey, you know all those pictures you already backed up automatically for me before? please continue to back those up so I can keep having access to them". I repeat, THESE WERE ALREADY AUTOMATICALLY ON THE CLOUD. I don't know why they're current not on the cloud, but I have trouble believing that it's suddenly "not allowed" when it was "allowed" (and happened with no direct action on my part) over a year ago.

  • Can't get photos off ipad to pc

When I connect my ipad to pc,I can't get the photos from the ipad to the pc. I have over 500 on there and no backup.
My photostream is working over icloud but I only have about 100 photos on that. I understand pre-icloud photos won't sync to cloud. But I can't get my other 400 photos off the ipad. I had transferred them somehow from an old pc to the ipad but that pc is fried so the only copies I have of the photos are on my ipad.
I open itunes and then my ipad but that shows 0 photos.
I open my ipad from my PC under "my computer" and go to the dcim folder. There is only some weird folder there, 860OKMZO, with 4 random pics from my photo stream
There is no way I can get to my pics. Not even my photo stream from my pc

To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you can use third-party apps such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer e.g. their file size and dimensions may be different, colours might look different etc

  • I am unable to open my iphotos have tried the command, option hold down thing and nothing can open my photo libary but no the iphonts, can't get photos off my camera or iphone onto my mac.?

I am unable to open my iphoto, have tried the command, option hold down, nothing, can't get my photos off my camera or my iphone, but i used to be able to?

Please test after each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Select the Purchases page in the App Store and locate the app(s) in your purchase history. If there's a button markedACCEPT on the right, click it.
    Step 2
If you're trying to update iLife or iWork apps that were installed from a purchased DVD, or if you have a refurbished Mac bought directly from Apple, contact App Store customer service for a redemption code. You may be asked for the part number of the DVD.
    Step 3
From the App Store menu bar, select
    Store ▹ View My Account
Enter your Apple ID password at the prompt. At the lower right corner of the window that opens, click the Reset button. Close the window.
    Step 4
If you have a used Mac, the bundled apps were linked to the original owner's Apple ID and can't be transferred to you. Reportedly, customer service has issued redemption codes to some second owners who asked, but it's not guaranteed.
    Step 5
Delete the app(s) you want to update and reinstall them.

  • "MyComputer" will not recognize iPhone. Can not get photos off iPhone.

I can not get the iPhone to pop-up in the "My Computer" window as a camera or device. Adobe Photoshop Album nor any other program will see iPhone as a device. So, I cannot access and down load the photos I have taken with my iPhone. I have tried unpluging and replugging the USB cable and all I get is a bing-bong sound. I'm also one of those that can not sync with Outlook 2003. I don't know if the problems are related, but I'm sure waisting alot of time trying to get this thing working the way I hoped it would. Any ideas?
    Dell   Windows XP

I have a Mac with iPhoto and it "just works".
Here is how it works on the Mac. Plug in iPhone. iPhoto opens and offers to download photos from iPhone to Mac. Asks whether you want photos deleted off the camera. Lets you name the roll. Asks if you want to download duplicates.
Then iTunes takes over and does a sync.
I know you don't have a Mac, but my best advice would be...have Adobe Photoshop and iTunes both open, and do a sync.

  • Can not get photos off iPhone on Mac or PC after updating to 1.1.1

I have a windows XP machine and it doesn't see the iPhone in the 'My Computer' directory (as mentioned in a similar post) so there is no way to download pictures.
When connected to my G4 Mac (running OS X 10.2.8), the iPhone does not show up but it is recognized by two of my photo apps; Image Capture and iPhoto. Both applications see the iPhone as a camera. Image Capture shows 0 (zero) items available to download. iPhoto shows 'Apple iPhone - Contains no photos'.
I have 189 pictures on the iPhone's 'Camera Roll' that I took with the iPhone (in addition to the folders I sync with via iTunes). iTunes obviously does not sync with the iPhone's 'Camera Roll'. How do I get to these pictures off the phone? Please help.
    Thanks.

There is definitely something wrong, but I couldn't tell you if it's your phone or your computer. I'm on 1.1.1 too and my phone still appears as a device in XP and behaves as it always has.
I can't recommend doing something Apple doesn't want you to do, *but if you are willing (as a last resort)* there is a way to access the file system directly and download the photo files in a way that is similar to how you would from an FTP site with FTP software.
It would require you to go to the site that puts installer on your phone. Once that is done install "open ssh" (to be able to connect to your phone and install "services" (to disable and re-enable ssh as needed for security purposes). Then use a program like winscp (works like other ftp programs but allows different types of connections - in this case an scp connection) to connect to your phone. The camera role is located in: \var\root\media\DCIM\100APPLE\. From there you can copy them to any location on your PC.
If you phone is showing up as empty when you connect it to your computer then there might be something wrong with the area the photos are stored in, or maybe it's too full. I don't know what the limit is or if there is a limit. Just bouncing around some ideas.

A friend posted some photos on Photo Stream and I was able to load them onto my friend's iPad, however I am having trouble getting them from the iPad to my Windows PC.  I plugged in the USB cord into the iPad and PC, a window pops up on the iPad asking if I trust the connection, I click Trust but cannot transfer the photos.  It keeps asking me if I trust the connection.  What am I doing wrong?  Is there another way to transfer photos from an iPad to a PC??  Thanks in advance.

  • Getting photos off of iPod Touch

How can I get photos off of my iPod Touch and onto my computer ?

Presumably, these are photos you've taken "on the Touch" with the screenshot facility, either the iPod one or one built into an App, is that correct? If so, then when you connect the Touch to iTunes a window should appear notifying you of "photos on the Touch which are not in your library". I can't be more precise about this since I'm a Windows user, but I guess it'll be iPhoto or an additional iTunes window that pops up.
Anyway, when that window appears, there should options for removing them from the Touch and putting them into your photo library.
    Have you tried that?

  • I need to get photos off a water damaged iPhone 3GS. Can I take out the component that has the photos (is this the main board?) and put it into another of the same phone to retrieve the photos? Please help

I need to get photos off a water damaged iPhone 3GS. It spent time underwater, saltwater. I let it dry for a week, turned it on, the apple symbol came on, then it died. I need to retrieve my photos off it. Can I take out the component that has the photos (is this the main board?) and put it into another of the same phone to retrieve the photos? Please help

You're talking about the logic board. The two most likely things to get toasted, with water damage, are the battery(it shorts out), & the logic board. The worst water damage would be salt water. I'm afraid your logic board is toast.

  • Saved photos from e-mail to desktop. Now can't get them off.

I saved photos from an e-mail to my desktop as well as I-photos. Now I can't get them off the desktop. How can i do that?

    Hello Sungal15,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To remove items from your computer, all you need to do is simply click and drag them to the Trash on your dock.
Delete an item from your Mac
Drag the item to the Trash. Or select the item, then press Command (⌘)–Delete.
Click the Trash, then click Empty. You can also choose Finder > Empty Trash.
When you see a warning message, click OK.
