What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?

The indication is there is still an error in the settings or the mailserver is down. Please go thru the troubleshooting steps in that thread.
BTW: I would just ask if you would try getting Thunderbird, set it up for the email address that you are having trouble with, and see if it works. Thunderbird will tell you right off if there is a problem. It will verify and check the address and the settings before you are even done with the setup. Windows Mail is what was with Vista but disappeared when Windows 7 made it's debut.

Why is my mac os x running slow and freezing, also the beach ball keeps spinning?

My mac os x is running slow, and or freezing. The beach ball keeps spinning. I tried re-booting several times and eventually went back to normal and then back to the problem again. Any ideas?

Keep bootable clone backups and use those to test with.
Repair your drive of course, Disk Warrior if you have that.
Then do a Safe boot the first time when you reboot to it.
corrupt files, caches, even a bad USB cable can cause trouble.
If the clone works, then reformat and restore.
And make sure your free space is 30% or more on your boot drive.
Off load media data files and such off the boot drive as well.
If and when it freezes, I've found Disk Warrior repair and rebuild of directory does help, not sure why. but after a hard drive your disk directory will be corrupt (damaged) and in need of more than just a simple reboot or even Safe boot to fix.

Can't get photos from iPhoto to iPod

My iPod software won't recognize my iPhoto library so I can't synch pictures. When I select the iPod Option to synchronize photos from iPhoto and do an iPod update, it doesn't transfer and photos from iPhoto and in fact it unchecks the synchronize photos option in the iPod software. I'm using a 60GB video iPod w/the current iPod software, iTunes 6.0.1, iPhoto 5.0.4 on an iMac G5, running OS X 10.4.3.

Getting Photos from iPhoto 5 to an iPod
create a special Album in iPhoto for the Nano and place those photos in it you want on the iPod.
connect the Nano to the Mac and when mounted in iTunes open iTunes' preferences and go to the iPod Photos section - Figure 1.
scroll down till you see the album and select it. If you don't want the full sized image files to be copied to the Nano do not select the Include full-resolution photos box.
close the preferences and when the syncing is completed dismount the Nano and then disconnect from the Mac.

Since you never updated your MacOS X or iPhoto, it will be difficult to update now without the help of Apple Support. There is a bug that makes it difficult. You could use the "quick link" to Apple Support on the main AppStore page to contact Apple Support for help.
Or try to buy a new version. When I look at the AppStore, the price has now changed to "Free", so it should not matter if you buy again or update.
Delete iPhoto from Applications, but do not empty the Trash.
Go to the first page of the App Store and sign in with your AppleID.
Search for "iPhoto" using the Search field.
What does the button below the iPhoto icon show? If it is showing "Free" like for me, click "free" to purchase again.

I ask this because I have Final Cut Studio 3 but I occasionally use iMovie as there are some things it can do better or more easily.

Definitely keep iPhoto.
If you use Facebook then any albums loaded by iPhoto to FaceBook will be deleted automatically.
That's just one danger of moving from iPhoto to Aperture.
I use Both... personal is usually in iPhoto. Work stuff is in Aperture.
Also my ITouch syncing thru iTunes never see the Aperture library, and Aperture has never asked to take photos from my iTouch... only iPhoto has !

Cloud with down arrow icon should allow for download, if not...
Try turning iphone off, then back on. If not, try resetting. Hold home and power button approx 10 seconds until apple appears. Back to app store and click search and look in purchased apps, or just search for your app. Should be able to download, unless it was pulled from the app store, and no longer sold.

The problem you have described is very irritating. I would be glad to look into this issue with you.
Do you have a HDMI cable to attach and remove to the device? If so please try that, then power the device off and remove and reinsert the Sim card. Does the error come back?

Can't turn off my ipod, just keeps spinning and clicking

I have a 40GB click wheel ipod, about 1 year old. I just tried to update my playlist, but my computer couldn't recognise the ipod. I tried to reset it, but now all it says is "Disk mode, OK to disconnect", but the little hard drive keeps spinning and clicking and I can't turn it off. It doesn't matter if it is connected or not to the computer. Any help please? Thank you.

I had the same problem with my iPod, sad iPod icon/www.apple/support/ipod, and I tried many times to reset/restore, but nothing would work and the enitre time I could hear the hard drive cycling.....and I figured well hit it with a ball peen hammer cause it is going back to apple regardless....sure enough "whumped" it into the palm of my hand and I was able to reset/restore it......This can't be the answer, can it? Is there physical damage and that is why the hard drive was "cycling"? What does Apple recommend that I do?

I have several iPhoto and aperture libraries... i want to get to one iPhoto library keeping only the latest photos. How can I do this?

Okay... I made the mistake of creating duplicate Aperture libraries because I decided I wanted to only use Aperture - then the news that Aperture is no longer going to be developed. I then confused myself and created duplicate iPhoto libraries (I can't even remember why anymore). At one point or another I have edited pictures in all of them and have no idea which pictures were edited. I just want to have one iPhoto library with the most recently edited photos and remove all the duplicates.
What is the best way to do this?
And... after doing all that, I need to keep backups of my photos on an external drive. What is the best way to do this?

You can merge libraries into one with Aperture 3.3. or later.
Aperture 3.3: How to use Aperture to merge iPhoto libraries
In merge-mode it will only keep the photos from one of the libraries.
And you can use Aperture to export partial libraries containing only the selected albums, projects, etc.
If you need to keep projects (books, calendars, cards) when merging your libraries, use Aperture and not iPLM:
