Can't get rid of a popup telling me I may be infected with a virus

Out of the blue my screen was taken over with a pretend virus alert. Over it is a pop-up that I can't delete. It tells me to call 844-482-1735 for 'tech support'. It looks like this:
I looked through older listings that seemed similar and tried T-Smart but no luck. I can't use Safari as every time I click on OK it just comes back and nothing behind it is usable. I've forced quit and gone to another machine. Any ideas? I'm running latest system and Safari on an iMac.

Force quit, and then relaunch Safari while holding the "shift" key to prevent the window from reopening.

How can i get rid of mackeeperapp popup

I need help to get rid of mackeeperapp popup. Since approx. 2 weeks it opens whenever I use google search machine after I chosen a topic there. Then the website of mackeeper opens up in a new window trying to persuade you to download their programme. I've downloaded adblock, but didn't get rid of mackeeper; used duckduckgo instead of safari, it didn't help either. Any suggestions how to get rid of that popup?

Did you get any help on this? From what I can see from surfing this site, it's a BUG that no one has offered a solution to. It sometimes happens after a 'reset' and going to ITunes does not offer a way to 'set up push notifications'.

I think my question is very clear. If I didn't want to go somewhere else, I would not have clicked on anything. I hate having to answer that question every single time I want to go to a different page.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

Most likely, you have the Facebook videochat plugin, which depends on the Java runtime distributed by Apple. If you no longer need it, remove it according to the developer's instructions. Otherwise see below.

Since I have the iPhone4S I can't delete songs from the iPhone anymore, which I downloaded with the iPhone. I sync the iPhone with my library. That works perfect. But than I want to delete the songs on the phone. That doesn't work. Can somebody tell me how I can delete those songs?

You have to uncheck what songs you don't want in iTunes. I don't think you could delete songs off the phone direct, unless you had I tunes match.

When my system starts up I see a message that says, "The disc you inserted was not readable by this computer." I had an external DVD drive but detached it and it still gives me the message. The machine (a new iMac 27") doesn't even have a disc drive! How can I get rid of it?

Does it happen if you boot with the Shift key held down to get into Safe Mode (if your keyboard is wireless, hold the Shift key after you hear the boot chimes and not before)? Additionally, try creating a new user account in the Users & Groups system preferences and then reboot and log into that account. When you do so, does the same message show up?

How can I get rid of tabbed browsing? I positively hate it and none of the choices in tools get rid of them.

I was using an older version of FF because the newer versions had messed up private browsing and I had the option of deciding if I wanted tabbed browsing. I switched to a newer version because a lot of sites didn't work with the older version.
I went into tools - tabs and checked what I used to use not to get tabbed browsing. Doesn't work.
Please tell me how to get rid of tabbed browsing and how to switch back and forth to private and regular browsing without opening a new tab/window.
If I can't get rid of tabbed browsing I guess I'll muddle along with an older version.

Very strange Popup - can't get rid of it

I've been getting a very strange popup lately when I go to certain sites and I can't get rid of it. It's an advertising thing that thinks for some reason that I live in Oakland (which i don't but is nearby). I also noticed that on certain websites now autofill puts in Oakland and some sites say i am logging in from Oakland.
The popup looks like an XP window but is messed up and the text hangs over the edge of the box. It bounces around in the middle of my screen and makes accessing anything under it impossible.
I have cleared cookies, cache and history. I have pop block on. This happens in Safari and in Firefox. I can send a screen shot but can't seem to paste one here.
If I have accidentally gotten some adware installed, how can I find and get rid of it???
Any help would be hugely appreciated!

A friend just tried the site too and said he gets the same popup but with an advert for Seattle (where he does live), so perhaps this isn't something installed on my computer after all... it is super annoying, though, so i'll give that program a try. do you have any other thoughts?

It's really annoying as rinsing my data!

After talking to Apple for 3 hours I figured it out myself.
Tre here was a singular failed song on iTunes on the computer that was trying to download and messing everything up. Maybe if you use iTunes on the computer and have a little mooch you'll find the same thing. I think it was hidden in the purchased part of it

A Flash popup keeps hanging so I can't get rid of it

Hi - I haven't been able to play Farmerama for several days (all my crops have turned to weeds) because of a little box that pops up in front of it: "Adobe Flash Player Settings." It says it's stored 6k and wants to store unlimited. In the past, I've clicked "Allow," and then it went away and the game proceeded. But for the past several days it's been hung. I close it (the tab or the browser) and start over and it hangs again. I did follow the instructions on Adobe Flash Player Help to increase the amount of storage allowed for Farmerama and restarted the application, with the same results. I've also emailed the site that provides the game, but haven't heard back from them. I can't get into the game with the Adobe box hung on top of it. How can I get rid of or circumvent the box?

I didn't reply right away, because the game started having trouble loading, and wasn't getting to the point where the popup would come up, so I couldn't tell whether that worked or not. Then suddenly it started working yesterday, and gave me a game wrapper for the popup with a checkmark to click, and that worked. Apparently, they have it set up so I can't click the Adobe popup directly, but have to click their own checkmark that surrounds the Adobe box, and that was what wasn't working. Go figure! I guess that's a problem with the game, not actually an Adobe problem.

You may have inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it. It ought not to be related to any Apple security update.
For a description of how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended actions read How to install adware. Apple's instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.
