Can't get rid of annoying gray strip in Safari

There is a wide gray vertical strip containing bookmarks and reading list along the left side of my safari that I cannot seem to get rid of.  I click on the eyelgasses, I click on the bookmarks but there doesn't appear to be a way to X out of it.  Help?

Try the Safari View Menu -- Hide Sidebar. (Or if you have the Favorites bar visible, you can click on the bookmark icon just below the  Back button -- and above the Bookmarks icon in the sidebar itself)

    How can i get rid of ad redirects on my Safari? Pop up blocks are not working.

    Download and install GlimmerBlocker.
    (Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
    and clear your History)
    Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security, (including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here: http://www.opendns.com/home/nobloat ) and further independent information can be read here:

    Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    (You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
    Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:

  • How can I get rid of annoying "Unnamed USB device" messege??

    Whenever I boot into OS9.2.2 on my other drive in my dual 500Mhz. G4 I get a usb upgrade messege window:
    "Software needed for the USB device "Unnamed device" is not available. Would you like to look for the software on the internet?"
    This appears everytime I boot, restart, startup on this drive. I've looked for this "unnamed device" in various places like the extensions folder to delete it but I can't find it anywhere. All of my usb devices are functioning and have been named including my MIDI controller. It would be great if I could get rid of this annoying reminder.......how can I get rid of this???
    500mhz. Dual processor (revision B) dual boot   Mac OS 9.2.x   1.25gig RAM

    I think it's my midi controller. I unplugged iton startup and I didn't get the messege. I've got the right driver installed for it and it's working fine so I don't know why I keep getting the messege. It's annoying to have to answer the question everytime time I startup.

  • Can´t get rid of annoying HP message everytime I print.

    I´m having a problem with my HP printer and Tech Support in Brazil could not solve it!
    I had to reinstall Windows on my notebook due to a hard disk crash, and I used the recovery disks provided by Dell.
    I downloaded the latest driver for my HP OfficeJet 8600Pro: “OJ8600_1315.exe”.
    Every time I print I get the pop-up window below:
    “Thank you for using original HP cartridges … Click on HP REWRDS for more information”
    I click “No, thanks, g* t* h***”
    Next time I print it shows same pop-up again.and again, and again, and again, and again, and again...
    I called tech support on +55 11 4004-7751, case is filed under Protocol 3002909186.
    The tech guy asked me to remove the driver and reinstall. I did it, and I de-selected all useless features such as TheGoogleWannabe (Bing), HP Help, HP Update, etc. - Did not solve…
    Then he asked the tech guys from “level  2” and they put the blame on Windows, because windows was not recording my “No, Thanks” option… such lousy answer!
    As stated before, I used the recovery disks from Dell, so I am using a fresh, 2 weeks old original Windows 7.
    I hope there is a better solution than downgrading the driver to a version that had no "Rewards" c**p.
    You know, sometimes good old stuff is better than the new.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    I solved it by myself! I´m so smart...
    Google-the-great found this:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Ink-Toner-Cartridge-Printhead-Issues/Can-t-get-rid-of-quot-Genuine-HP-C...
    In "EXBworksmart" long answer lies the solution #1: disable bidirectional communication and shut up the printer.
    Solution #2: Never buy HP again.  I lost $2500 in my HP notebook because it featured a nVidia video chip, which  on regular PCs come with a hetsink and sometimes a fan, but on my HP note it was bare naked, not a single piece of metal to spread the heat. The note had an AMD processor, it was hot, and the video chip broke the BGA solder.
    Just to finish, I bought a cheap Brother Laser printer HL-1112. No scanner, no wifi, no colors, no fax. But I can leave it off for years and it will print right away. Obviously any HP laser printer would act the same way, but why should I buy from an inferior brand that is only good at marketing?
    Brother printers do the job, the toner cartridge is separated from the drum cartridge yielding lower maintenance cost, AND NO NASTY "BROTHER REWARDS" POP-UPS!
    Now I´m going to call brazillian tech support to teach them. Wait... why bother?
    No offenseses in this mail, only the truth.

  • How can I get rid of annoying sounds?

    I just received my first iPhone.  I like it, however, there are two annoying sounds/noises that I cannot seem to turn-off.  The first sound is what appears to be a "baby laughter" every time I send out a text.  I have all sounds turned off  on the texting and it is still there.  The second sound is every time I want to put the iPhone in a sleep mode with the button on the top of device, I get what appears to sound like a "camera click."  I would appreciate some input in getting rid of these two sounds.

    There is not an option to disable the alert sound when a text is successfully sent.
    To disable the click sound, go to Settings > Sounds > Lock Sounds > Off.

  • How can I get rid of annoying, unwanted playlists put on my phone by apple?

    I hate that I can't personalize my phone. Everything with apple is so generic. Why can't products be suited to the user rather than users conforming to the product? I hate all the annoying playlists and app icons for things I don't want.
    Do I have a choice?

    You do under some circumstances, however you are not addressing Apple here. We are users like you. As far as icons are concerned, native iOS icons cannot be deleted, but many people just create a junk folder to put them in and put that folder on their last home page. I understand this isn't the solution you are searching for, but it does help some people. Some playlists can be removed, however some cannot.
    As far as letting Apple know how you feel about this, they do not come to the forum. Use the feedback page here: www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link. This is where they get user feedback.

    when I open Safari, very annoying music plays. How can I get rid of it?

    Click History from the Safari menu bar then from the drop down menu click: Clear History
    Quit then relaunch Safari.
    If that didn't help, go to ~/Library/Safari
    Move the LastSession.plist file from the Safari folder to the Trash.
    See if that helped.

    How can I get rid of adware in Safari?

    Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • Annoying border, which I can't get rid of in an AP div

    Hi,
    I have created an AP div in Dreamweaver CS4 on my website and it has somehow grown a second compartment. I don't need this second compartment and have tried for the life of me to get rid of it.
    Here is the code:
    .twoColElsRtHdr #sidebar1 {
    float: right;
    width: 210px; /* top and bottom padding create visual space within this div */
    font-family: "Palatino Linotype", "Book Antiqua", Palatino, serif;
    font-size: small;
    top: 15px;
    position: relative;
    background-color: #FFF;
    background-image: url(_assets/sidebarbackg.jpg);
    height: 445px;
    left: 5px;
    color: #000;
    text-align: left;
    padding-top: 0px;
    padding-right: 10px;
    padding-bottom: 0px;
    padding-left: 10px;
    .twoColElsRtHdr #sidebar1 h3, .twoColElsRtHdr #sidebar1 p {
    margin-left: 10px; /* the left and right margin should be given to every element that will be placed in the side columns */
    margin-right: 10px;
    text-align: justify;
    font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;
    The box is the right height and width but there is another compartment in it which I can't get rid of....anyone help?
    Tom.

    Sorry its gone now. No idea what it was but it certainly is part of an AP div which I didn't need.
    Thanks

  • History window opens by default when i open a new window or restart firefox. How can i get rid of that ? its annoying.

    History window opens by default when i open a new window or restart firefox. How can i get rid of that ? its annoying

    If the History sidebar is closed when you close Firefox and doesn't stay closed on the next start then that can be problem with the file localstore.rdf in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder]
    Delete localstore.rdf or rename the file to localstore.rdf.sav in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] to test if the file is corrupted.<br />
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf<br />
    (caution: do not delete the localstore.rdf file in the Firefox program installation folder)
    Note:<br />
    Deleting the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/localstore.rdf localstore.rdf] will reset the customizations of the toolbars to the defaults.<br />
    You can rename "localstore.rdf" to "localstore.rdf.sav" to test if that solves it.<br />
    Then you can restore the customization by copying "localstore.rdf.sav" to "localstore.rdf" if it didn't work.<br />

  • How can I get rid of that annoying white circle in that black square

    Since Oct. 7 last I have a 5S. Before had a 4S. About 4S no complaints, so the 5S maybe faster, better cam and so on but what I really hate it that stupid white circle in a black square you can move around on your screen. However when you want to open, for instance <messages> and that white circle is very near, messages will not be opened but a uselless black sub scrn with favorites, Siri, Device, Home. How can I get rid of that or delete or move it, it will no longer be visible on my scrn.

    Yes, you are right. I must have done it myself during the first days while exploring the many options after the initial set up was done. On the 4S, I still have, and also running under OS7, it was disabled that's why I thought it was default in the 5S; wrong thinking. Thanks a lot for your great help.
