Can't get rid of Login Screen

I recently deleted my guest account (guest moved out, don't need it anymore). I cannot get rid of the login screen for admin (me!) though. Each time I start my iMac, it asks me for a password, even though I deleted the password. I can get in by simply hitting enter, but I'd like to get rid of the login altogether.
Can anybody help?

Hello Brooks.
1. Open System Preferences and click Accounts.
2. If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
3. Click Login Options.
4. Select the way you want users to log in (a list of users or a dialog asking for their name and password).
5. Select "Automatically log in as" if you want the computer to log one user in automatically each time it starts up. Then choose the user from the pop-up menu and enter the user's password when prompted.
If you turn automatic login on for yourself, the computer opens your account when it starts up. If you log out, other users see a login window to log into their user accounts.
Each time I start my iMac, it asks me for a password,
even though I deleted the password. I can get in by
simply hitting enter, but I'd like to get rid of the
login altogether.
IMPORTANT: Be very careful when setting up automatic login. If you turn on automatic login for yourself, another user can restart the computer and have instant access to your user account when the computer starts up again.
I don't recommend deleting or getting rid of your login password and simply hitting enter to login. I'm the only user of my Mac and I've disable automatic login for my account to prevent a guest or anyone else from accessing all of my data in my Home directory by simply turning on the computer.

  • Can't get rid of login screen on initial startup.  Any Idea's?

I have an iMac with a 21.5 inch screen, recently upgraded to Lion.  The problem is when I power up in the morning I get a grey screen wanting my password, and below that, the option to sleep, restart or shutdown.  If I restart, it comes right back to the login grey screen.  If I enter my password, it will open up to the normal blue galaxy screen, but doesn't recognize my audio interface.  So I have to restart again and everything is fine.  I only get the grey login page on the initial startup.  I called an Apple technician and he couldn't solve the problem.  I am the only person using my computer, so I dont need to login everyday.  I also re-installed Lion to no effect.  Anyone have any idea's?  login at startup is un-checked.  Thanks!

System Preferences->Users & Groups->Login Options->Automatic Login (then choose your account name in the menu)
If you're sure it's set that way...
Try creating a new user account and setting Automatic Login to log in to that account. Does it bypass the login screen now? If so, the problem is with your primary user account.

  • HT1267 Q  I keep getting a repeat screen that says "unable to download" [name of a song] and gives me the choice to "try again" or "done".  I don't want the song and can't get rid of the screen.  Ideas?

I keep getting a screen that says "Unable to Download"   [song] with two choices - "done" or "try again".   I have tried both and can't get rid of the screen ( and don't want the song which I never ordered to begin with.   Ideas on getting rid of the screen??

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

    HELP
    Sam

    Hi,
    Pic first
    Handle = Screen Name.
Name = Your Details as per your My Card (Head and Shoulders iCon) in the Address Book - Or the User that is Logged in to the Mac.
Each Buddy List will show the same Name but a different Handle based on the Screen Name for that Buddy List.
If you only have one Buddy List (other than the Bonjour One) and you Delete it then the Buddy List Disappears - Problem Solved. (Presumably you are re-adding a New Screen Name ?)
Pic of the Minus Button I am talking about.
Multiple Buddy List are created by adding more then One Screen Name to the Accounts List (Previous Pic)
I am a little confused where you were when you did this:-
    I tried clicking on the minus sign in the list of users to delete the account and tried signing up for a new iChat account using my AIM screen name/password;
"List of Users" sounds like you were in System Preferences > Accounts.
You can "Delete" an Account here. It is not actually removed from the Users Folder (Hard Drive/Users) but is locked in a way that no-one has access and they are Removed from the Login Screen when the Mac Starts Up.
DO NOT DELETE ANY CLOSED ACCOUNT FOLDER In the Users Folder.
But if you use the same Screen Name in another Mac User Account the same Handle will appear.
You will see my GoogleTalk Account is headed "GoogleTalk" and my AIM Account as "Main AIM Account" These are set in the Description field in the iChat > Preferences > Accounts.
The Default if you have one account that logs into AIM is for it to read "AIM Buddy List"
    Similar for one Jabber Account.
With more accounts of any one type they take on the info in the Description Field - which itself by default is the Screen Name.
Are you trying to create a New Mac User Account and use the same AIM Screen Name there ?
Are you trying to just change AIM Screen Names ?

  • Can't get rid of old screen name in iChat

when I first got my iMac a couple years ago, I was experimenting with the apps, including iChat. In iChat, I setup an account using a screen name that I no longer want to use, but when I try logging into iChat using the AIM account with the screen name I want, the "user name" that shows up in iChat is the first one I used when I was experimenting for the first time with iChat.
How do I get rid of this old, unwanted screen name? I tried clicking on the minus sign in the list of users to delete the account and tried signing up for a new iChat account using my AIM screen name/password; neither worked (when I tried logging in with my AIM info and clicking on the button to set up a new iChat account, I got sent to the AIM web site that wanted me to input all my info again then sent me to the site to download AIM - which I already have.) I could find nothing in the iChat preferences other than the minus sign I referred to but that won't allow me to definitively delete the unwanted screen name/handle.
Is there some place I can find the iChat preferences in the system folder, maybe, and delete them so next time I start iChat a new, blank set of preferences will be opened that will allow me to set the username I want? If this will work, where is this file located?
    Thanks.
P.S. I got Skype recently to try, but like some of the features in iChat so would rather use iChat if I can get it to use the name I want and have with AIM.

  • Can't get past the login screen - Login fails [SOLVED]

    Dear Arch community,
I have just installed xfce4. To make it perfect, I've installed slim and added it to the daemons. It works flawlessly...unfortunately I am not able to login. It does not seem to recognize my user name and/or password. After going back to the prompt (strg+alt+F5), I am able to login. Also: If I log in and try to go back with srtg+alt+F7 I am stuck at the login screen again.
    The problem:
Slim is not able to access user and password - How do I get it to do so?
On the other hand...from my point of view it could be anything.
    Any help is very appreciated.

all I've got in it is:
    exec xfce4-session
I guess that is a bit too less.
Actually according to the wiki it should be just
    exec startxfce4
when using slim.  Have you made your .xinitrc executable?
    chmod +x ~/.xinitrc

I'm watching a FIOS on demand movie for the first time. There's a box at the bottom of the picture with the move info, like how much time is left in the movie,  etc. How can I get this to disappear?  If I press exit on remote, it disappears only briefly.
    Thanks in advance.

I stopped, and then resumed playback of movie  all ok now...

  • How can I get rid of (404) screen and browse the web

This morning I foundthat I was able to log on to mozilla, get my e mail, bring up the yahoo home page, but I could not browse the web. I am getting an error screen that says (404). I have never had this before and my tech support was unable to help me.

CHances are google maps are never coming back as part of the bundled OS. Apple and Google seem to have parted ways (possibly has something to do with Google having their apps on other devices from other manufacturers but no one knows for sure)
Since preinstalled apps cannot be deleted, the most you can do is ignore the icon, shove it back on a back menu page (I have a 4th menu page on my iPad containing nothing but the bundled apps I consider worthless. I just ignore that page and never go there) and then put a shortcut to google maps on your iPad or find a third party map app you like better.

  • How can I get rid of the dark area on top one third of my iphone screen which spoils my background image?

How can I get rid of the dark area on top one third of my iphone screen which spoils my background image?
It seems this problem is caused by the software to increase the readibility of upper letters (clock battery etc.) It be nice to leave us the control of choosing background letter color too if we are using brighter images or darker images.
I'm using iphone 4s and it appeared after I updated to new patch. 7.1.1.
    Thanks,
