Can't get rid of sync icon in menu bar

I just sold this powerbook to a friend and I'm having problems getting rid of my identity for her.
1) I can't get rid of the sync icon in the menu bar (or whatever it's called)
2) I can't get to the place in the system preferences where this is enabled because I have removed my .Mac identity from this system
3) Even though the system no longer has a .Mac identity it still seems to want to sync
4) I removed all of my contacts and groups from my address book, but each time I restart the system they all come back.

Hold down the CMD key and drag the sync icon off the menu bar.
If you're selling a computer to someone else, you should sell it in the state you bought it. So just re-install the original OS from the original disks provided with the computer. That will wipe any of your personal info, including all the stuff you don't know where it is.

  • How, please, can I get rid of the icons in the bookmarks toolbar so I have space for more bookmark names? Thank you

I try to get as many items as I can in the bookmarks menu toolbar (typically using 3 letter names). F4 adds an icon next to each name - taking up valuable space. How, please, can I get rid of the icons in the bookmarks toolbar so I have space for more bookmark names? Thank you.

If you remove the names then you may have a problem with organizing or searching for bookmarks.<br />
If you do not want to use the extension then you can achieve the same effect with code in userChrome.css<br />
That is what I would do.
Add code to userChrome.css below the @namespace line.

  • Urgent help......can't get rid of adobe icon....

    Hello,
    I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.8
In my utilities, i discover this
There's that Adobe Flash Player Install Manager..........when i click this icon, it's asking
me for my password.......which I straightaway click the cancel button, as from the news
today, I know that's a malware. No installations made whatsoever.
But I can never get rid of that icon above completely from the utilities, when i try to trash it,
    this comes up -
What to do now? I'm afraid if i keyed in name and password, the opposite might
happen.....as I don't want to install this adobe flash player......any solutions to my problem?
    Appreciate all the replies, thanks.

If I click on the icon itself......this will come up
When I click uninstall, also, same thing asking for password...... if i do so,
I know I'm done....... when i click quit, it'll just close the window....
Just couldn't figure out how to completely erase it out of my Mac 10.5.8 system....

  • When taking a picture with home button and sleep button can you get rid of the tool and task bar??

When taking a picture with home and sleep button can you get rid of the tool and task bar?? (the search bars)

No, but you can use any picture editing tool to crop out the bars.  (Many are free in the App Store.)  Me personally, I use PhotoPad, which I use to crop as well as rotate the screen shot.  Takes less than a minute to do both with PhotoPad.

  • Can't get rid of account icon photo in mail header area

How can I get rid of the thumbnail photo icon in the mail header area when I send an e-mail in Mail?
It is one of the supplied icons that is in system preferences for "accounts", to distinguish my account from my wife's on our iMac G5 (10.4.10). I recently only selected this icon....the boxer dog....but there was nothing in that area before when I used the generic sillohuete as my account log-in identifier.
    Basically, I don't want to be sending e-mails with a dog's photo....as much as I like dogs.
I have read how to ADD a custom photo in .Mac preferences/profile but, I didn't see how to get rid of one and I did not consciously choose to add the photo that is there now.....it just appeared after I changed it in System Preferences/Accounts. I understand that it might appear in iChat, but, I am not/wasn't using iChat.

Those photos don't actually get sent. They are a "feature" of Mail. You probably have a "Me" card in your address book? Get rid of the picture there, and it should get rid of the picture in the header region of your emails as displayed in Mail.app. But, like I said, those don't actually get sent, anyways. Got Windoze at work? Send an email to yourself at your work email address -- you'll see -- no boxer dog. But, please pay a visit to http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/ and let them know what you think of this feature.

  • Can't get rid of an icon on my desktop

I am unable to get rid of an icon on my iMac desktop. I am running OS X 10.2.8. It is a Word document. Every time I try to trash it, I get the following response:
The item “X.doc” is being used by another task right now. (Other tasks include moving, copying, or emptying the Trash.)
Try again when the task is complete.
Well, the task (whatever it is) never seems to be complete. How do I get rid of this sucker?
    Thanks,

Here's how Apple says to remove it:
    1. Rename the file to "remove.rtf"
    2. Open .... /Applications/TextEdit
    3. Create a new document, put some text into it and...
    3. From the File menu, choose Save As
    4. Type: "remove" in the Save As field
    5. Select the location where the problem file is located
    6. Click Save....Dialog appears... The file already exist. Do you want to replace it?..... Click “Replace”
    7. The “remove” file replaces/overwrites the problem file.... so drag “remove” file to the Trash.

The following Apps will “Force Delete” ....
    Cocktail...Onyx...PantherCache Cleaner..
Start up in Safe Mode. (shift at startup)
This prevents non-Apple apps from loading. Trash the offending app and restart.
    Use Terminal to ...
Force-empty the trash or Force-delete an item from desktop..
    1. Launch Terminal.
    2. Type sudo rm -rf <space> (or copy/paste)
2a. You can use sudo rm <space> , but it will not work with a folder.
    3. Drag the offending file into the Terminal window. The path to it will appear.
    4. Click on Terminal window, press Return and type your administrator password.
    5. Press Return.
    6. Click on the Desktop or the Trash window and the file will vanish.
Note.. If you attempt the above again within five minutes, steps 4/5 are not required.

  • Can't get rid of carbonite icon from menubar

Got rid of carbonite and it no longer appears in my system preferences. However it is still in my menubar at the top right and it has an x through it. How do I get rid of that? Any help appreciated.

When I couldn't find a Carbonite folder in Applications (I had previously trashed it) I Googled how to get rid
of Carbonite icon and found a way to find the hidden Carbonite folder.
I had to:  1/ Control click on Finder on the dock and select ‘Go to Folder’.
2/ Typed /Library/Application Support/ into the window that appears.
3/ There was the Carbonite folder with 4 documents in it.
I moved the whole folder into AppZapper free demo application, and BOOM icon's gone.  I had to restart to see the icon was actually gone.  AppZapper is pretty cool too.

  • Can't get rid of items from the Side bar

I placed some movies in the side bar and now I can't get rid of them. I was able to remove one movie that I placed in the side bar today from the side bar, but some other movies I can't remove. I don't remember putting these movies in the side bar. When I left click on these movies all that comes up is Sidebar Preferences.

I found the answer by browsing. I am supposed to hold the Command key down and drag the item off the sidebar. It worked. I was trying to right click the item and remove it that way which didn't work.

  • Can't get rid of itunes icon on desktop

Already have iTunes showing on dock on bottom of display and now have iTunes icon on desktop display as well. Tried dragging it into trash but then I can't open iTunes from the dock without dragging desktop icon out of trash to and back to the desktop. Tried dragging desktop icon onto dock and into already existing iTunes icon already on the dock. Nothing i've tried seems to work. How to I get rid of this desktop icon?

    Hi bkbl?
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
First check in Applications to see if there is an iTunes icon there?
If so then just drag the one on your Desktop to the dock, make sure it works and then drag the old one off.

  • Can't get rid of ISIToolBox icons from the toolbar...

...every time I open a pdf, these icons are in the toolbar, taking up real estate.  I can uncheck them from the toolbar menu and get rid of them.  But who wants to do 4 extra mouse clicks every one of the tens of times they open a document each day?  Any ideas for permanently getting rid of these?

Uninstalling would certainly get it done.  But what if I want to use it?  Reinstall?
There's already a pull-down menu (along with File, Edit, View, etc) for the ISI tools.  Why does it have to be so damn invasive?  Why can't I just ask it not to automatically put the icons in my toolbar?

  • Sync Icon on Menu Bar?  What does this mean? How can I get more info on it?

I just noticed for the first time, a SYNC icon on the Macbook Pro/Lion menu bar and it is going strong - twirling its little heart out.  Im not sure what this is or what it is doing.  Im having a feeling something got set up (I dont really know what Im doing ) that had to do with maybe syncing a calendar with Google? for an Android phone?  Is t here a way I can check out what this is and what its doing -   It just keeps twirling around so Im not sure what its doing or how long it will take and I dont know that I want it doing wh atever its doing.  Maybe it has something to do with contacts?  The only option I can find when I click on the icon, it says 'cancel sync.'  Is there a way to "get info" - and find out what its doing.  I dont want it twirlling forever as I assume thats going to eat up the battery...I dont have anything set up to sync consistently so I dont know whats its doing or whether I should stop it.  Its been going on for like over 5 minutes and that doesnt seem right to me

If it's a one-time "glitch," you can try restarting your computer with the iPod still connected.  Try ejecting again after the restart.
If the problem recurs, you may have a process running (other than iTunes) that is accessing the iPod's storage.  When connected, the iPod's "disk" is like other mounted volumes.  This process may be some type of utility that continously monitors your mounted volumes for security reasons, such as to prevent access by malware.
If you know of such a program that you have running in the background, there may be a setting to exclude your iPod's disk.

  • Can't Get rid of "9" Icon on bar

  • How can I get rid of Nation as my tool bar search engine.

    Greetings,
I am extremely frustrated with Nation as my search engine on my Safari Web browser. Can someone please help me get rid of it? Here is a screen shot of what I see.  I would really appreciate any support.
    Thank you,
    Balde

Why don't you just go into ~/Library and remove the add-ons, extensions, plists
Look in Preferences, Safari, Application Support, and look turn off 3rd party extensions.
If you don't want to delete, then move them aside.
Also clone your system. CCC does not copy everything and also gives you the freedom to test and try and make any changes you want safely and freely. Sometimes you can't make changes on a live system. And Resetting Safari for one does not remove all the metadata and temp files it keeps.
What other browser are you trying with? Firefox, Chrome, OmniWeb....
