Can't get rid of update notice box

Today, there is a box in the upper right-hand corner of my screen telling me that updates are ready to install. I do not want to update anything, but there is no option to delete this box, close it, ignore it, etc. The only options are: "Restart" (which will automatically install the updates) or "Later", which offers a number of options, but not "Never".
How do I get rid of this box, and how do I stop these updates (which apparently have downloaded themselves onto my computer without asking me) from proceeding?

It was one of the last two Security Updates.
To stop the pop-up, Go to System Preferences: Security. Check the box next to "Require password to unlock each secure system preference." Then lock Security.

When I search for solutions, I find several references to the backup feature of Norton 360. There also were references to MozyHome and McAfee.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:

I can't get rid of iMesh search box - got rid of toolbar but not search box - it is not included in add-ons

I downloaded iMesh thinking it was just a normal music-streaming site. However, it downloads a toolbar and search box. I seemed to have deleted the toolbar with no problem. However, the search box is still there, to the right of the navigation box, and if I go to Tools - manage Add-ons, it is not listed there at all. Is there a way to remove the search box without uninstalling the program or is it better to uninstall it? My virus/anti-malware programs do not report any risks associated with the program and it is handy to find audio streams on the Internet, so I would keep it if it is not harmful. The search box is not causing any problems, I'm just concerned because it was put there without my agreement and does not seem to be removable from the Tools menu. I use Google or Norton Safesearch and would not use iMesh for general searches.

Hi Gnib, First go to start>control panel>add/remove Programs. In add/remove
programs there will be "Media Bar" once you click on it to remove it,then it says
remove "media bar 2.0". Get rid of that also. Now go into your "add-ons
and extensions". There will be something about the imesh toolbar. Uninstall
that. Go into start>programs. If imesh is there, delete that too.
If this doesn't work for you. Tell me what you first did to remove imesh.

I updated Firefox. Now, I can't get rid of the blue box saying drag drag the icon to the applications folder. Plus another icon to 'eject' firefox opens. Every time I open firefox, they show up. Even Apple Help could not fix it.

I can close the little blue 'drag' box every time I open Firefox, but that is a hassle, and I know it should not be necessary. When I try to eject the 'peripheral' icon, it says I cannot because Firefox is in use. I have to wait until I close Firefox to be able to eject it off the desktop.

I recently installed CS6 (not the cloud) on Windows 8 64 Bit. On opening I get a dialogue box, which goes away if I click on "OK" after which CS6 loads. I reinstalled, but I still get the dialogue box. How can I fix it?

right click>click "run as administrator".
if that fails, run in compatibility mode for win 7.
if that fails:
uninstall ps cs6.
run the cleaner, http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
restart your computer.
reinstall ps cs6.

Can't get rid of "My Computer Box on desktop

My husband's white two-year old Macbook has a problem which is driving us crazy. On start-up a box which says "Ken's computer" appears in the middle of the screen, blocking files and everything else. In the box is the hard drive icon and the Firefox icon. There is no way to remove or even move this box. Under the Window file there are countless files entitled Ken's Computer. Now the computer is getting sluggish with numerous spinning beach balls.

Try starting the computer in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key while booting the computer. Does the box still show up here & is performance still slow?

Can not get rid of cache notice

when opening bridge I get a notice that bridge has encountered a problem and to purge the cache in pref; well I tried bridge cache and central cache and about every other cache I could find but its still there , what am I not doing ?

Can I get rid of the white box behind my swf file?

I would like for the space behind my swf animation to not appear as a white box while the browser is loading the swf but rather show what is on the page behind the loading file.
I believe someone had once told me what to do to prevent this but I cannot find this info now.

Using a Mac. Opening a link to Power Point slides -- get message--"You have chosen to open etc. I have checked the box that says "do this automatically for files like this from now on" -- but it never does. I still have to click OK.

Can I get rid of the resend box? "Are you sure you want to send a form again?" I looked in system preferences and can't find a way. Yes, I'm sure, I wouldn't of clicked the button if I didn't want to! I have a 2.66 MacPro with 7gb of ram, and I "think" it can handle this (but maybe I'm wrong)! But, boy is this annoying! YDB, lol. Interesting read,l and it could well be what we are dealing with.
In the meantime, we printed some DVD covers directly from Indesign and they turned out fine. But we need to resolve the issue so will try those suggestions. Thanks.

How to get rid of "updates for HP printer"

I have a new problem concerning HP printer updates . Currently am getting a updater for new downloads for Hp2175 on my desktop, but there's nothing in this box to download and I can't get rid of the message box. It only allows me to click out of it. Do any of you wonderful mac folks have a clue?

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store notice. For example, if the App Store says you need to update "Twitter," the hacked app may be "Angry Birds" or something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you have to carry out a systematic search.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
In the Finder, press the key combination command-F to open a search window, or select
File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select

A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select Raw Query and click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of popup menu. Click in that box and paste (command-V).
The search window will show all the App Store products you've installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the items listed in the search window is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Test.
