Can't get rid of Yahoo as search engine

I am on Windows 8.1, IE 11, and Yahoo has somehow made itself my default search provider.  When I open a new tab, it automatically loads.  In Manage Add-ons, I have Google set as my default provider and have checked "prevent programs
from suggesting changes to my default search provider". Yahoo is not even there.  I have run my anti-virus and anti-malware scans and removed anything that was a nuisance or threat. I went to Programs and Features on the Control Panel to see if anything was
there that should not be (there was nothing). After doing all that, I restarted my computer and when I went to IE, Yahoo still comes up.  How can I get rid of it?

See: "How
to Reset Internet Explorer settings".
Then...
1. Please download and run the Microsoft
Safety Scanner tool (freeware).
2. Reboot your PC.
3. Please download and update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Free
4. Reboot Windows in Safe
Mode and run a Full
Scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
If still no joy...
5. Download and Run AdwCleaner, RogueKiller and Junkware
Removal Tool (Freeware)
6. Reboot and Test.

Clicking the Firefox icon to open it is fine but if I open a new tab (Control T) it seems Yahoo carries out the search. How can I get rid of Yahoo? It's not in Tools Add-ons or Extensions and Windows control panel doesn't show Yahoo either.

  • How do I get rid of "Yahoo! Search - Web Search" that comes up every time I click on a new tab?

How do I get rid of "Yahoo! Search - Web Search" that comes up in address bar every time I click on a new tab? I have to delete it in order to go to the site I want. Very annoying. I can not find it in program file.

    Got this fixed.
I deleted Yahoo as a search engine.
To do this: on the right hand side of a toolbar there is a pull down menu which contains "manage search engines". Select this and remove "Yahoo".
BTW: the "Tools" - "Options" - "remove hardware acceleration.. " did not work.

  • I cannot get rid of yahoo for search no matter what I;ve tried

    I am running windows 7 - FF 14.0.1
I cannot get rid of yahoo for search in search bar and resets to yahoo in search engines pres -no matter what I've tried - I had a YTD youtube downloader addon - i removed it -
    I change
    about:config
    url to
    http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=
when i check again - the damn yahoo is back
    i try to change
    browser.search.param.yahoo-fr;chr-greentree_ff&ilc=12&type=937811
the system won't let me.change or remove
Do i have to do a TOTAL deinstall and reinstall of FF?
I like FF but if this continues I will have to change to another browser - I've done software since 1978.

    I had to --->
    Help > Troubleshoot
    about:support
Reset Firefox to its default state
If you're having major problems which you can't resolve, start fresh with only your essential information.
then I got my themes addons etc
everything seems to work - but what a pain - I hate yahoo and its spawn babylon - all that add it without permission should be sued for the time effort and aggravation
that they cause - I am tempted to start a boycott!

  • How can I get rid of Yahoo search on Mountain Lion  safari .

I have tried everything to get rid of Yahoo from my newly installed Mountain lion upgrade. I have a MBP mid 2011 17".  . I'm used to using Safari so I would ltke to keep using it. BUT, even though I have Google as my default or perferred search engine, Yahoo keeps coming up. I have already tried hiding tool bar & then individually putting up the print , home.etc. icons. But that doesn't work either. I have searched for an answer to no avail thus far. It's beginning to look like I either use Yahoo w/Safari or switch to FF or Chrome. Any answers I will be grateful for. Thanking you in advance. I could just scream at this point. LOL
And one other thing is bugging me to death. Is there any way to enlarge the toolbar & icons on Mountain Lion. They are very tiny...too tiny. I've tried everything I could think of.

Try deleting the Safari .plist file. Preferences can become corrupted.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go the move the com.apple.Safari.pist file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari and check Safari > Preferences  > General. Make sure Google is selected.

  • Downloaded firefox and can't get rid of ebay in search window

Everytime i have downloaded firefox, ebay is in search column. If i go ahead and type a desired address in search such as cement it carries me to items related to cement for sale on ebay site. No matter what, firefox carries me to ebay. Where does this contaminant come from and how do I get rid of it?

    Hi Bobazane8,
Firefox has the search engine selected as eBay. You can't get rid of it, but you can select a different search engine such as Google or Yahoo so if you want to search for that term, it'll pull it up on the search engine of your choice.
Simpy click the eBay logo next to the search field and select your choice.
See image below to see what I am talking about.

  • How can I get rid of the "Reset Search" app?

I have a Macbook Pro and I run Mavericks OS X 10.9.5. There's an application in Launchpad called "Reset Search".See picture 1. I know this is part of the "Install Mac" adware, but I still can't find a way to get rid of it. I downloaded Adware Medic to try and remove the adware but it said that it couldn't find anything. I also tried a manual removal following the steps from http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-genieo/, where it says to remove the file "/private/etc/launchd.conf" but I can't find that file anywhere. I'm scared to continue because it says, "Failure to properly remove this file, if it is present, will result in your computer freezing and becoming unable to start up!" Also way before I knew this was adware I reset the browser settings a few times using the pop up. See Picture 2.

    Problem description:
Accidentally downloaded the adware “Install Mac” and can’t get rid of it because I can’t find any traces of it, except for the “Reset Search” app on Launchpad.

  • I can't get rid of somoto toolbar search and default homepage. Somoto doesnt appear in the list of searching and also not as installed software in my computer.

I can't get rid of Somoto, it doesnt appear in my search engine list and also not in my list of installed add ons or software, but its there, it is also my default homepage if i open a new tab. any idea?
    thanks

    Please do the following.<br><br>
#In the location bar where you normally type in a web address, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.<br><br>
#If you see a window which says "This might void your warranty!", click the button which says "I'll be careful, I promise" so you can continue with the next step.<br><br>
#In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''<br><br>
#Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://www.google.com/search?q= and then click OK.<br><br>
    #Close the tab
The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.
'''To reset your home page, do the following'''.<br><br>
    * Go to the site you want to set as your homepage.<br><br>
    * Click the Firefox button, go to '''Options '''| '''Options '''| '''General'''.<br><br>
    * Make sure it says "''Show My Homepage''" in the first dropdown menu.<br><br>
    * Click the button called "'''Use Current Pages'''" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.<br>
If this suggestion resolves the problem for you, please click the '''Solved it''' button ''next to this post'' after you log in into the forum. This will help others searching for a solution to the same problem.
    Thanks.

  • How Can I get rid of Yahoo home page? Changing home page doesn't work.

A week or two ago, Yahoo started coming up as my home page. No matter how many times I change it back to Bing, every time I bring up Firefox, there is Yahoo as the home page. Changing it back to Bing and clicking ok is not working. I'm getting a little frustrated with this. How do I get rid of Yahoo coming up as my home page when I did not even ask for it?
Thank you for your time and consideration.
    Sincerely,
    cbrsarah

  • I can't get rid of "my web search" while powered by google, it sux! I want good old google or google chrome

When firefox opens up, the search window on the right has My Web Search within. often, when I want GOOGLE, I get this "My Web Search", 'powered by google. My searches are terrible...MyWebSearch gives me a lot of worthless [obviously] paid-for search results.
I followed their instructions and deleted it by 'removing the program' in my control panel, etc., through the start menu. yet this lingers, and i can't find it anywhere in my computer memory to try to reemove it again.
    It sux!
I want to use good old google!!
Help me get rid of it!!

hello hmsa76l79, please also go to firefox > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, etc).
[[Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page]]
afterwards install the search reset addon - it will revert the most common customziations those adware programs do in firefox back to the default: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/

  • Why does Yahoo search pop up if I try to search something during boot up period. Does Firefox own Yahoo, or vice versa. SO annoying...can i get rid of Yahoo?

    No further details necessary..pretty self-explanatory.

On your MacBook: Go to System Preferences > Network. Select Wi-Fi from the left column. Click the Advanced... button.
Under the Preferred Networks list, select every Wi-Fi network that appears and delete each one using the "–" (minus) button. Select the box "Remember networks this computer has joined" if it is not already selected.
    OK then Apply.
Select your AirPort Extreme's wireless network in your Mac's Wi-Fi menu, and determine if that solves its connection problems.
Our alarm company set up the camera with the D-Link before we got the Ariport and we can't figure out how to hookup the camera to the Airport without the D-Link.
You may need to solicit the security company's help. Adding your Extreme to your network as a router constitutes a fundamental change in your network's design. If you are now using the Extreme as your router, the D-Link router should be reconfigured as a bridge. Depending on the nature of your security system, it may not be required at all, but your concern about the security camera requiring specific port forwarding settings is justified. Changing your router from the D-Link to the Extreme may require forwarding specific ports using AirPort Utility, otherwise your security camera's video may not be accessible from the Internet. This goes beyond any help I can provide, since your security system has requirements of its own.
Configuring the Extreme as a bridge is likely to solve the problem... but if the D-Link wireless router was sufficient, do you really need another access point? The reason I'm asking is this:
... I purchased an Airport Extreme for Wi-Fi and to back up my MacBook files.
If you need a wireless backup device for Time Machine, a Time Capsule may be a better choice.
