I have a macbook pro version 10.7.5 and my mailbox will not open at all and comes up with a quit message even though it is not open. how can i get into my account. it works on my iPhone and i have internet and all other functions working on my computer

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports (not "Diagnostic and Usage Messages") for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. I know the report is long. Please post all of it anyway.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Can't get AIM/AOL account to work in Mavericks' Messages

Messages works fine with my iCloud/Mac/Me address. But when I try to add the AOL one (which is still the only protocol in Messages/iChat that works with screen sharing), it gives "unknown error."
I've verified the name/password by logging directly into aim.com, and tried multiple times throughout the last day.
Anyone else able to get their AIM account working ?

I had the same problem and figured out how to get it to work.
From the Add Account dialog, DON'T click on the AOL option.  Instead select "Other messages account..." and click Continue.  In the next dialog box select AIM from the Account type drop down and enter your login and password.  This worked for me.

  • I can,t get one email account to work in tiger after panther

I have two email servers, AOL and Verizon. I wrote down the setting from panther and put them into Tiger. Aol is working fine but verizon does not. If I restart in Panther, verizon works. In tiger I get a message about port 25 timming out but I use the same port in Panther without issues. I went back and took snapshots of the Panther setting and put them in Tiger but still I can,t get verizon to work. I checked the firewall and it is the same setting as panther. I am at a complete loss, Googling would be in the blind so I don,t know.

    David,
Is Verizon also your ISP? One possibility is MTU (maximum transmission unit), which may be getting set differently in the two versions of OSX. Test with lower values for MTU, and compare the System Preferences/Network settings in each version of OSX. See:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107962
    and
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303192
One other thing to ask -- what character set and/or keyboard settings are you using? I ask because your post seems to use a comma, where an apostrophe would be expected?

  • Can't get one email account to work again after deleting it

I have been using a 9800 for ages with two separate email accounts; one is a work account and the other a personal Gmail account. I also back up my phone regularly to a computer
I deleted the work accout for a holiday and, prior to re-installing it, found that I could temporaily disable the receipt of emails for a particular account by applying a filter. I recreated the work acount on my phone and, apart from being surprised that some of my old emails were still present, also tried to create a filter.
I'm now in a position where no work emails are getting through to my phone despite deleting the filter I created and having gone through all of the settings on the phone. All the settings for the work account appear to be the same, where applicable, as for the Gmail account but only the latter is working. I've also restored the email settings only from a backup when everything was working OK.
    Any ideas please?

  • I can't get my Bellsouth account to work on my IPHONE

IF SOMEONE HAS GONE THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM ADDING THE BELLSOUTH ACCOUNT TO THE IPHONE "I NEED HELP IN ADDING MY BELLSOUTH EMAIL TO MY IPHONE".

    PLEASE DON'T SHOUT!!!!
Are you accessing your BellSouth email account with an email client on your computer and if so, are you able to transfer the account settings from your computer to the iPhone via your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes - is this account available to select for account transfer under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences?
If so, have you tried this?
If not but you are successfully accessing this account with an email client on your computer, are you entering the identical account settings copied from the email client being used to access the account?
Any error message provided when trying to create the account on your iPhone and if so, what?

  • Can't get jabber/gmail account to work!

    Hi,
I have an account with gmail and I'm trying to use it for a new account in iChat by setting up a new account in Preferences.
In the Jabber ID field I have entered my gmail email addrress: [email protected], and then my gmail password. When I click to log on I am told that the username or password is incorrect. Am I filling out the fields incorrectly?
    Thanks for your time!

    Hi,
In some places an @gmail.com and @googlemail ID seem interchangeable.
However iChat likes it to be the one you see when you Login to the Google pages
As well as checking the Server Name (iChat 3 pulled through the @googlemail.com or @gmail.com as the server name as it did with other Jabber Servers), that Defcom has had you check - check the ID name you are using as suggested above.

  • HT4743 I downloaded a tv episode. When I press play it starts to load then immediately goes back to the episode page. I've tried rebooting my ipad but that doesn't help. I can't get into my account info from my ipad as suggested.

I recently purchased a tv episode from ITunes. It shows that it has downloaded. When I press play it starts to load then immediately returns to the episode page. I have tried rebooting several times.

Basics from the manual are restrt, reset, restore.
Have you tried each of these?

  • TS3899 Why can't I get my Gmail account to work after my ipad reset?

Took my ipad to Apple store due to a software problem which was fixed by doing a reset. I then restored and backed up/sync'd my ipad in ITunes and iCloud. Now I can't get my gmail account to work on my iPad. It won't send or receive emails and I keep getting the message that my user name or password are incorrect, which I know they are not. The message is "the user name or password for imap.gmail.com is incorrect"...  I tried deleting and re-adding the account, powering down the iPad but to no avail. I can log into to gmail on my computer so I know I have the correct password.  Any thoughts or ideas? Don't really want to go back to the Apple Store again....

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Cannot get exchange mail account to work

I am a very persistent person. I don't give up easily. But I just can't get my exchange account to work on iphone. After trying way too many times, I've tried to get it set it up on the Apple Mail program so that I can then sync the mail account to the iphone through itunes. I've only been able to get the incoming mail working on Mail. I've tried so many different permutations and combinations, but I cannot get the outgoing mail to work.
I know that imap is set up. And I can access my mail account through Entourage... perfectly.
Why can't I get it to work on Mail???? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated? Any settings to check on the exchange server so that I can get it to set up properly. Please. I am about at my wit's end. And I won't give up!!!!
    Thank you!

    JeremyLogan,
Here are some settings that you need to make sure are enabled on your Exchange server:

  • I have tried to reindex my messages but I still can not get the search function to work in email

I have tried reindecing my messages by rebuilding the library but I still can't get my message function to work in mail.  Any proposed solutions much appreciated.

Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock all your user files, reset their ownership, and remove their access-control lists. If you've set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Back up all data.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
